I went there to pick up paints, brushes, cement and sanding sticks to build a plastic model car I received for Christmas. I used to build model cars when I was a kid. A young man at the register (I didn't get his name) helped me and was extremely helpful. He explained all about the different types of cement, paints, and models available today. I purchased this great plastic model Triceratops diorama set from the Hobby Company. I came to this store while visiting over the holidays from Maui. There is nothing like this store over there or even on Oahu as I found out. No one has the variety of plastic model kits as these guys do. Most of the other stores only sell gundam-type models. This was the perfect gift for my son. The salesperson was very polite and showed me the different kinds of cement they had. Overall, I think these guys are great! read more

While in Oahu, decided to see if there were any "model" shops left on the island. I was pleasantly surprised to find The Hobby Company. One of the best stocked and best organized model/RC shops I've found in a long time. In addition, one of the kits I purchased was missing parts from the manufacturer, which I only discovered when I returned home. While the manufacturer should have sent me replacements, which they didn't, when I reached out to the manager of the Hobby Company he was super accommodating, sending me missing parts so that I could complete the model. The Hobby Company is now my go to for all of my model/diorama needs when on Oahu! read more

Futaba receivers are really overpriced. I would suggest searching for other local hobby shops when looking for RC products. Nice little hobby/art store tucked away in the Bradley Shopping Center. I was looking for Christmas gifts, and was directed to this place by Jelly's who didn't have what I was looking for. This place had what I needed and so much more. Its definitely a geek store. Lots of model planes, cars. Those little characters that people build and paint for those fantasy games (not sure of the proper term for this).. Puzzles, but didn't have that great of a selection, and then art supplies in the back. I also witnessed one the workers working on a pretty expensive looking remote control car. The guy that checked me out was very friendly and talkative. Had a nice conversation with him. The store and everything in it does look a little outdated though. its as if its stuck in the 90s.. My husband was looking for a brass tube for customizing hotwheels. Let me say the hobby company is the best if you're looking into something for cars, I'm talking about miniature cars, airplanes, whatnots. Debit, credit, cash accepted. No bathroom access though (i may be wrong). There is plenty of parking and the staff is super helpful, as well as knowledgeable in what they are selling. It is affordable somethings might be a bit pricey depending on what you're looking for. See pics for more details of what they are selling. Probably the best equipped hobby store on island, big selection of plastic models and for me a huge paint selection. Staff don't really interact unless approached and that's fine by me. I needed a gift for my eight year nephew . Found these balsa gliders and rubber propelled balsa planes at a reasonable price. Brought back pleasant memories of when I was a young boy playing with these planes. There was a lot of different things there to see. A much better selection than Walmart. read more

I could not believe the service I received today. Back story bought a kite for my daughter last month. Was skeptical if it could fly because it was the shape of a dog face. Before I purchased I asked the worker if I could return if kite didn't fly well. He said I had 30 days. Flew it once didn't fly great. Fast forward to today. Walk in to return it. No welcome. I walk up to the desk see a heavier set man sitting in the corner I tell him I'd like to return this. He straight up tells me nope in a sarcastic tone and struggles to get off his seat. Walks to the back and I'm in disbelief did I just hear him say nope. He comes back around after awhile and rudely says you can't return the kite cause it's been used. Another rude lady comes around and now they're tag teaming saying you can't fly a kite and return it. Not in a nice way mind you. I explained to them both that, I specifically asked the associate that sold me the kite and he ensures me it would be okay. Even their return policy on receipt says nothing about no returns besides paint. He started making jokes about l I'll take this kite on Saturday and shoot it down with my rocket. Who the heck says that. They finally agreed to my refund. But.. their computer supposedly froze so they couldn't process it then and wrote me out a manual refund slip and said it would be refunded within 3 days. I really hope they are not lying and are not planning on processing my return. If so they'll be hearing from me again and I'll report them to BBB. All in all I will never go back there. And if you ever plan on returning something there get ready for a tag team attack from rude workers. I plan on telling everyone I know about this horrible experience. read more

First off, I remember when the hobby co use to reside in Pearlridge. My dad loved that store! We were all bummed when they were gone. Anyways, I needed some sheets of balsa wood to craft letters. I called Ben Franklin they had none. Did a quick google search and boom "The Hobby Co"! I called and asked if they had balsa wood. A lady answered and was very helpful. Told me all about their balsa selection and the other types of wood available. The store was very easy to find and parking was plentiful. I walked in and a lady and guy smiled and acknowledged me. I walked around a bit lost and went towards the lady. She immediately put down what she was doing to help me find what I need. I really didn't catch what her name was but she was so kind and helpful. I'm not a pro crafter but she made feel at ease and excited to get my project started. They have hundreds of model cars and airplanes/rockets to build. This place is primarily a place for model building needs. They do have a small section of puzzles, color by numbers, and some art supplies, but I wouldn't go here if that's what you're looking for. I called around Oahu to various stores looking for a tiny hand drill called a "pin vise." No one knew what I was talking about, and the guys at Home Depot looked at me like I was an idiot -- even though I showed them it's in their online catalogue! Anyhow, I called The Hobby Company and the guy on the phone immediately knew what it was, and the various prices they had. Since they're near Jelly's I knew right away where they were, and found them easily. They had exactly what I wanted and the guy helped me figure out which kind of wire I needed to do the miniatures repair work I was doing. Rude and very unkowledgeable staff, as well as being overly priced. Asked the lady there "do you happen to carry any 1/8th scale ESC's?" Lady responds "uhhhh no." I look in case and there is multiple very unorganized controllers. Then I ask the guy that has no neck if he knew of any others. He responded with "well if you don't see them they're not in there", once I was finally able to get the lady to actually move things around there were others. But happened to be nearly double the average price online, including overnight shipping. I would rather order parts online and have them shipped via ground and wait instead of giving them a dime of my money. read more

Went there today to pick up a couple of models for my boys at work. They have the coolest models and r/c's I've seen here on the island. I ended up buying a 1/25th scale ww2 motorized battleship and a 1/426th scale battleship Arizona. These things are really cool!! And it was really reasonable too. Their prices on the smaller type models aren't to much different than walmarts, but being a smaller specialty store its worth paying the extra couple of bucks. If you're in the market for models or r/c's you should check out the hobby company. read more

This is a great store and they're really helpful. I was sad when it closed in Pearlridge but happy to discover it had relocated to near Cutter Ford.
