Well, it's been 12 years so I think it's time for an update. Thankfully I still have hair that needs to be cut, although it's not quite as dark as it once was. Anyway, I don't think they've improved over the last 12 years, but rather has continued down its 2-star path. I think they lost sight of the concept - a place for dudes - dark panels, sports on TV, offer the customer a beer and make for a relaxing enviornment. It is basically now your run of the mill men's haircut shop with lollipops and La Croix. The haircut was actually pretty good and the stylist was pretty nice. Although the haircut is supposed to come with a shampoo and 5 minute scalp massage which adds to the relaxation. I wasn't offered either and it feels creepy to ask a young lady in a tight dress to do so. read more

Very friendly barber, but for the price just not a good haircut. Asked for a fade and had patchy trimming on top and basically bald on the sides. Again, very attentive and nice barber, just not well-done. Really unprofessional other hairstylists also rushing my barber so they can get lunch...on top of all that, got the side eye by the girl at the front when she seemed to expect a tip for taking my coat.. Atmosphere tries to convey a high end experience, but not even close in my opinion. Won't be back. read more

I recently visited for a Precision Shave. The staff was friendly but the service was horrible. My service was rushed and painful. My face felt raw for almost a week. BLOOD WAS EVERYWHERE and yet, the straight razor continued deep into the cuts. It looked more like a surgical operation than a shave. This is not what you would expect from a quality shop. The experience was anything but relaxing and super uncomfortable. Absolutely unprofessional. I hope to give this place another try.... read more

I recently went to get a haircut. I was in town for a wedding. They fit me in with an open appointment on a Saturday morning. They took me right on time. They were fast, courteous and gave a very nice cut. The price was also reasonable. I will go back when I am in town. read more

I have been coming to Bettyann for over 10 years and she consistently nails it. I get compliments on my haircut all the time. I have always been told that I have great hair but Bettyann has shown me it's true potential. The entire staff is great. Always a warm welcome when I come in and provides swift cleanups in between haircuts to ensure my hair is always looking on point. The staff is knowledgeable about the products that they sell and is always a pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a solid haircut. I will say that the staff was very nice when I called and when I arrived at the salon. The haircut, however, was not so great. I walked in at 2:19 and was out by 2:39. That would be fine to some people but it would have taken even less time had I not asked for corrections on my hair to be made. I'm used to my former barbers taking their time and fine tuning the details of my haircut. I just moved to the area so still trying out barbers, and was hoping this would be it but it definitely wasn't. I got my haircut by Matt. My first issue was that I have a strong adherence to the smell of cigarette smoke, and to have to be stuck in such close proximity to someone who smelled like nothing but cigarette smoke was pretty bad. When he thought he was done, there was still large patches of hair that had not been evened out on one side, he hadn't blended in my sideburns to my beard at all, and there were several longer pieces of hair that had been missed by his clippers. I asked him to correct all the aforementioned, but it's still nowhere near the level of quality I'm used to. He claimed to have blended in the sides to my crown but it still doesn't look like that, and there's a large patch of my hair on my right side that is much shorter than the surrounding hair. It seemed like he was rushing, which I don't understand because I was the only customer in the shop when I walked in. I wouldn't complain about the cut if I had gone to some shop at a strip mall, but without the discount of a first time customer I would've paid 25% more than most surrounding barber shops in the area. It's a really high price for just kinda okay quality. And I prefer for my barber to understand and look at my hair and see what else needs to be done without me having to instruct him in the basics. Definitely not happy with the haircut which is disappointing because it seemed like such a great location. read more

My six year old son is not a fan of getting haircuts at all. But, at The Hoboken Man, Omar is amazing with my son! We got there a little early. We easily checked in and they offered me something to drink and had lollipops for my son. They have free WiFi with the password available. The barbershop is nice and very well kept. Omar got us right on time. He has a special seat for my son to sit on so he is at the right height. Wrapped a white cloth around his neck before the cover to stop any hair from bothering him. Omar talks with my son to make sure he is okay and gets the haircut done quickly. The cut itself is awesome. He checks with me to make sure I am happy with the length and look. He then puts in Muk to give him the final look. My son loves his haircut so much that he even wants us to put Muk in his hair at home! read more

The Hoboken Man is nestled at the base of the unfolding Maxwell Place. I am not sure what the average Hoboken Man needs or expects, but unless he's Frank Sinatra, he can expect top notch service in this place. Staff greet you energetically and dote on you from the minute you walk in the door. Everything inside is hard oak wood design for the sophisticated, rugged man in mind. Plasma TVs on either side display news and sports and there is a deep stack of Men's magazines in the nicely appointed waiting area. You won't have much time to wait or enjoy your water, tea or beer that they'll offer you though. Service staff appeared to be prompt and the waiting area seems occupied by the ladies waiting for the men. Dana was my esthetician and in fact I followed her here from the last spot I went to see her in Tribeca. The facial room is warm, even on the coldest day, and quiet with meditative music and rich scents in the air. Her facial was as terrific as I have come to expect. A warm blanket was slipped under my neck as she did some extractions making me wonder "Is that lavender?" instead of focusing on the discomfort of having somoen shove objects into your nose. My upper back and arms were massaged and moisturized. My face feels full and clean a day later. I'd never been to Hoboken before but Dana at The Hoboken Man was definitely worth the trip on the Path. I had the worst hair cut ever at The Hoboken Man. I am gonna be %100 honest. The salon is nice, people are nice, my hair wash was great BUT, what a terrible hair cut I had.. I told the hair dresser that I want to keep some hair on the upper side of my head, I realized at the end that she did cut my hair the same lenght all the way from my neck to top of head..I also have had the worst cut for the neck line. I realized she left a straightline on the neck that is way above my original neck line..I mean, why would you do this?? I am not returning for sure.. read more

The Hoboken Man is a wonderful place and completely fulfills its promise of a high-end salon just for men. The aesthetic appeal of this place is great: big TVs, lots of wood covers the salon, and classic barbershop chairs. On top of the aesthetics, the customer service is amazing. The girls who work there are very helpful, friendly, sincere, and also damn good looking. When you walk in your welcomed, your coat is taken, and you are offered a drink. (Beer included) Once you get taken to get your haircut/facial/massage you realize this place is not just looks and hype. The service is amazing, and they do great work. I have never been happier with my hair, courtesy of Betty Anne. Some other great things I've noticed they've changed is that they now straight-edge shave the back of your neck with your haircut, and I was also offered a complimentary facial on my second visit. Also, a great thing I love that my last salon took away is that you can leave a tip with your credit card. Overall, this place is amazing. I found this gem on Yelp. ALL gayness aside (because I'm reviewing a haircut place): this place is legit. FACT: I always feel weird going to a "salon" and absolutely refuse to get cut at a corporate establishment. With that being said, I met and recommend Cyntia (one of their professional stylist). She knows what she is doing. She gave me a great cut. My girlfriend was pleased and I was surprised she did so well considering I have such an odd shaped dome piece. Thanks to her I feel fly again. They also do "clean-ups" between appointments to straighten your neck and lines which I really appreciate. They also give A+ shaves and face trims. I think they do it better than me? Manicures and pedicures are available too but my man hood forces me to draw the line somewhere. Maybe I will venture down that road one day though since that place has such a manly atmosphere. Flat screens, sports and if I didn't know any better I would say I was at a cigar bar given the environment. I should have ordered a scotch. Their website says it all... Writing this review for my husband who doesn't Yelp for himself. I found this place for him based on the other good reviews. It's always hard to find a balance between "girly" salon and old school barber. He has longer hair and needs a stylist who can cut hair like a salon and not just the clipper cut at an old barber. Hoboken Man has the style and sophistication of a high-end salon and enough manly touches to not make my husband feel like he's in one! He went there for a haircut, which they did very well, he also liked how they offer free touch-ups in between cuts. It caters to a higher-end clientele and because of the other business men doing it without shame, I was able to convince my lawyer husband to also get his first professional mani/pedi! He was happy with the cut and I was thrilled with having someone do his hands and feet without me having to pin him down and come at him with the nail clippers! All in all, it was a great experience but be prepared to pay high-end salon prices. It's not a $15 dollar barbershop clipper cut but, like most things in life it's all relative. If you want not only a good haircut or a mani/pedi in an immaculate salon, but also a cool, man-friendly environment, then it will be worth it to you to pay the premium prices for the premium experience. But whatever the cost, this is definitely our new place for his regular services since we moved to the NYC area. read more

This Christmas I faced a challenge- what do you get the guy who has everything? I decided the perfect gift for my boyfriend was some pampering at The Hoboken Man. I got him the express package- haircut, shave, manicure and pedicure. He was so excited for this that for the first time in his life he stopped biting his nails just for the manicure. They did not disappoint. He came home raving about every aspect of every service. I don't think I could have picked a better present. I removed one star, though. I called to ask them about the gift package, paid over the phone and asked them to include gratuity- I wanted to be sure he wouldn't have pay for anything. They were awesome and mailed me a gift card and package with receipt in time for Christmas. But when my boyfriend got there, they charged him $2- kind of defeats my goal. It appears that in the month between my order and him redeeming the package, they raised the price of the service. As it was obviously a gift, I think they should have honored the price I paid out of principle. read more

I have gotten gift certificates for both my boyfriend and father; both always satisfied. Bonus for the females.. they carry a great retail line and facial line for both him and her. read more

Place is very nice looking. My haircut was okay as usually find that get too much cut off but here needed to ask for more. I also came for there grey camouflage. Had it done elsewhere and wanted to leave a bit of gray. They left none and color was a bit darker than wanted. read more

This review is from an appointment I had the first week of June. I hadn't had a haircut in almost 3 months, had recently moved to Hoboken from Virginia and was looking for a high end barber similar to the experience I had there. A neighbor suggested Hoboken Man. I made an appointment for a Signature Cut with one of the senior stylists which was supposed to be as follows: Consultation Shampoo Conditioner Scalp massage Cut Rinse Style My experience as a first time client went like this: Show up at 4:55P for a 5P appointment. Wait 15 minutes. As a first time client I assume the stylist is going to take me to the chair, see how my current haircut looks dried and styled, have a consultation with me about what I want to do, and then send me for a wash. Instead about 10 minutes later the shampoo assistant took me for a wash (she was great!). Since the stylist was not yet back from a break I sat with a wet head for another 5 minutes after the wash was done. The stylist showed up and the consultation went like this "What are we doing?" Haircut commences. No rinse out. And I'm out the door by 5:30. A very rushed job to be sure, not designed to make you want to come back as a repeat customer. With so many better alternatives in Hoboken (Spesh, Mark David, etc) I won't be going back. read more

Been going here for a few years now and it's easily my favorite place to go for a hair cut, shave, manicure, pedicure or any other styling service. Ambiance is fantastic, great magazines and reading material in the waiting area (though I've never had to wait for a service. Just maybe a few minutes in between a hair cut and shave). Reception staff is super friendly, warm and inviting. Every time I go here, it's a great experience. I've been getting my haircut by Kelly now for the last few cuts and she's just such a great, friendly, upbeat person it really makes me look forward to getting my hair cut. She always does a fantastic job and I always gets so many compliments afterwards. Highly recommend her. This previous time, I got a manicure and pedicure done by Cynthia and it was just great. I've been going to this place for over a year now and I can't say enough good things. I'm not able to schedule my appointments in advance, so I usually call the day of or walk in, and I have always been accommodated. I've seen several different stylists and they all did a great job. The girls at the front are always welcoming and very pleasant to talk to. The complimentary cleanup of the neck and side burns in between cuts is an extra bonus!
