I went to The Home Depot (550 Hamilton Avenue, Brooklyn, NY) to purchase a refrigerator and honestly walked out annoyed and disappointed. I was told:    *   I had to buy a brand-new water line and they couldn't use the one I already have    *   there are no exchanges whatsoever    *   if the refrigerator doesn't fit through the doorway, they do not remove doors That's a ridiculous approach for a major appliance purchase. The combination of poor product knowledge and "take it or leave it" policies made it an easy decision to take my money elsewhere. In contrast, Best Buy actually explains options, removes doors if needed, and as a member I have 60 days to exchange. During those 60 days, they also price match if I find a cheaper price for the same model. On top of that, they even gave me a $200 Best Buy gift card. My husband and I stopped by here 2 days ago to get soil for plants. Upon entering the store, one can see this huge display of Halloween (creepy and fun) decorations on sale. Although the decorations caught our attention we didn't buy any. We browsed around the store to see if we needed anything else besides soil. I've purchased many things here including annual and perennial plants, organic soil, resin and clay planters, plastic and clay saucers, housekeeping items and more. They have reasonable prices for all of your gardening needs. Although the store closes at 8pm, it seems the garden center closes earlier. I bought a washer and dryer from Home Depot and paid for installation and delivery in the NYC area. They came four times to deliver and failed to do so - the first time, the washing machine was damaged, the second time they sent a lone guy with only the washer and no installation skills, the third time, the washer came damaged again and the fourth time they refused to install the dryer because they said they needed a COI - a COI is not necessary for my building and anyway, my neighbor had his machines installed without one. I never leave reviews but this experience was so terrible that it prompted me to write one. NEVER order appliances from Home Depot. 1. Huge wait time (over 2 months) to get washer/dryer/stacking dock 2. Requested COI for condo delivery that was never processed (resulted in 1st reschedule). 3. Came too early on the 1st reschedule (after several notes and warnings from me that the building doesn't accept deliveries before 9:00) and condo building doesn't accept deliveries that early (resulted in 2nd reschedule) 4. Finally came on 2nd reschedule but the washer was broken (resulting in 3rd reschedule) 5. Finally delivered working washer/dryer but they couldn't install the washer. I had to do it myself and I had to hall away the old one after paying them to do it. 6. Online folks said they were going to give me a partial refund but I needed to go to the store. Store said they couldn't process because the system said I OWED MONEY because they hadn't hauled away the old washer. 7. Called online folks (at this point I've spent more than 10 hours on the phone with these people. They said they were going to take care of it. 2 WEEKS LATER. STILL NOTHING. Order from PC Richards. These folks are a joke. Everyone is nice but completely unable to deliver on what should have been an easy delivery. There is no one to take responsibility. DON"T GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. read more

There's a big gardening center outside (you can pay for everything there without ever going into the store). After leaving Ikea, we turn in here to look for some white paint for my mother-in-law. All Home Depot with parking lots are always big. This location has a strange L shape layout which can be confusing but we knew what we were getting- Paint! We knew we wanted interior white paint with Primer & Paint in one. Shoutout to Steven! He asked us what we needed, spent time with us explaining the difference in the types of paints. He was very informative and helpful. He said for future reference, it would be best if we went straight to the Paint Depart Desk to get help rather than just browse the shelves as most people don't know much about paint. He said for the small room we wanted to repaint (green room to become white), we could get away with 1 can of 1 gallon Behr Ultra [Interior Pure White Eggshell Enamel] Scuff Defense Stain-Blocking Paint and Primer in One. *NOTE* This can is good for 1 coat of paint- would need another can if you wish to have 2 coats of paint on your walls. For another similar size small room (that is already white), he recommended the 1 can of 1 gallon Behr Premium Plus Ultra [Pure White Eggshell Enamel Low Odor Interior] Paint and Primer in One. We got 1 can of each and were on our way. We have other paint supplies from previous paint projects at home (rollers, brushes, paint liners, cans, etc). Doing a major renovation in the Summer of 2021 post Covid is hard. Especially when contractor is complaining about rising prices on materials. So when I had a big order (two pallets of Tile) and another pallet of Wood Flooring that needed to be delivered, they messed up and delivered half the order, delaying the job. I rescheduled for the following week, and an associate ticked off the wrong type of truck (should have been a flat bed per her manager). Kicked it down the road, and trying for another week the manager says they couldn't do the appointed time either and wants to reschedule. After waiting the same day when I had laborers waiting. Twice. Do not trust them to deliver product to you when you need it. read more

In July of 2024.. I am extremely disappointed of the customer service I received at this Home Depot in Brooklyn New York on 230 Nostrand Ave. Managers Rodney, Cumberbatch, Yimy and cashier Sophia. I'm sure them and others are a part of this scam. I went to this Home Depot to purchase two gift cards and paper towels. I went to the register with multiple visa gift cards because I was concerned that the backs of these gift cards were torn open already however, the cashier Sophia told me that it's fine and asked how much would I like to put on the cards?.. I told her the amount and she handed me back two cards. A little skeptical by the way she handed me the cards. I asked her are you sure these are the two cards you put the money because she was still holding all the gifts cards as she scanned them. She said yes and showed me my receipt saying yes and this is the amount on them. I didn't second-guess her and I left the store with my two gift cards and paper towels. A couple of days when both gift cards were being used one of them didn't work. I immediately went back to the Home Depot, upset with myself because I knew in my gut something was off when I originally purchased them. I went to the customer service stand, explain to them what happened and noticed that the gift cards stand wasn't in the same place. It had been moved. I insisted on walking over with the manager Rodney and he told me no I can wait there at the Customer Service stand and he would check the cameras as well. He came back to say that he doesn't see a gift card on the stand that matches the numbers on my receipt and that in the video footage he can't really tell what has happened other than the cashier Sophia was holding multiple gift cards. And this was the beginning of runaround with no intent on making it right. Rodney said he will speak to another manager about the situation he stated that I will be giving my money back, but he wasn't sure of the form it will be sent to me whether it would be reimbursed on my Home Depot card or sent has a check in the mail. He took my name address and phone number. He also gave me his contact information to follow up. After weeks of calling the store and being told that the manager isn't there then on vacation, I finally called Home Depot corporate told them the story made a complaint and till now no email, call .. not even a letter in regards to my complaint. I paid for two gift cards and only received one with the correct amount on it. The second card I was handed was never activated. The correct second gift card was left in the hands of the cashier name Sophia. This is robbery. The right thing to do is to reimburse me for what I paid for and didn't receive. read more

I was looking for a piece of ply wood in a specific size, which they don't sell but I was told by a lady at the return department that they can custom cut it and ship to my home. I was instructed to talk to the product person so they can place the order for me. I went over to the cashier side to look for the product person. I had an amazing experience at this Home Depot. I didn't spend too long in the store as I only needed one thing but the customer service was great. They knew where what I needed was and was very helpful in giving me recommendations. Zakee was very helpful and kind even when I interrupted him when he was restocking the shelves. You need caulk, like now. Or a drill gun. Or some two by fours. You basically have two options. Orange (Home Depot) or Blue (Lowe's). I'll say this, Orange has a better option for parking. Go to the ramp to the roof and you'll have your pick. And while you may still not be able to get someone is an apron to help you (at least one that is familiar with the section you're looking in), their app goes a long way to making finding items a heckuva lot easier. It'll know which store you're in and really do a decent job of getting you to the aisle (and bin) where those linesman pliers your brother borrowed and never gave back are located. I have called the Home Depot help line, and each time they say the store is "looking into it" and will call me back. Never heard from them. Please do not shop here, and DO NOT let elderly customers deal with this store. They will be scammed. I can't complain much about this place except that it is probably the lighting. This place always seems to be dark or maybe the home Depot orange. Also the fact no one here knows where stuffs are. I spend a lot of time here when gut renovating my place. Parking lot is dangerous with lack of lighting and very very run down. I never park upstairs but I probably should. Over the year however I did see some changes and upgrade. The garden sections is wonderful but not a good comparing with other home Depot. It's smaller. Comparing with Lowe's a few blocks away, I will say home Depot has more selections and products. Lowe's has a better parking lot and brighter inside. They layout is horrible, with the gardening items spread across three different sections. In the hour I was here this evening, no staff in the outdoor nursery. I'm glad I'm not the only person with a horrible experience. I believe every one of the negative reviews for this place. First off, never order anything online from this store because if something goes wrong with your order, which it most likely will (missing items, wrong items, damaged items, etc), you'll never get it resolved. Calling the corporate main line will also get you nowhere cuz they'll defer to the store. Second, do not trust the number of items they say they have available online. I've read too many reviews that said they wasted a trip to the store because they didn't have the item they claimed to have on the website. Basically, their website is garbage and unreliable. Like, why did you even launch the online store if you had no capacity to actually make it work? Third, if you ABSOLUTELY DESPERATELY have to order online, which I still advise against, even if somebody was putting me at gunpoint, use the Ship to Home option. Don't choose Scheduled Delivery. They hire a third-party delivery service that connects them with independent contractors of dubious qualifications. They don't call you 30 min in advance like they say in the confirmation email. My delivery guy forgot one of the packages and I had to reach out to Deliv (the third-party service), whose customer service is... a story for another time. Then somehow the missing package appeared the next morning without any warning or acknowledgement of the mistake. Fourth, just don't buy stuff from here. Their website is broken, the staff never follow through with their phone-in customers. I'm reading here that even if you DO go there without any expectations, the staff will just ignore you. read more

I had a utility knife that broke and it turns out that the brand has a lifetime warranty on the product (I believe it was husky). After speaking with a representative over the phone at Home Depot they confirmed the warranty and reassured me that all I needed to do was bring the knife in and it would be replaced with an equivalent model. I asked if I needed a receipt and he said it would not be necessary. upon arrival I went straight to the returns desk, and was given nothing but attitude and condescending remarks. At that point, it became more principle. I picked an equivalent model, and at first they refused to provide replacement without a receipt while giving me excuses, all along the way, so I called the Home Depot corporate again so that the clerk can listen and once again, they confirmed that a receipt was not necessary. The clerk still refused to provide me with an exchange until they asked her for her ID number and after they hung up, she gave me the replacement and told me to go to the Cropsey branch from then on. I can best describe this feeling through examples: 1. I asked a woman where I would find a Shop Vac in the store. To which she responded... "what? what is that?" "o no, we dont have those". They were one aisle over. 2. I asked a representative for help with wood, but they did not know how to read a tape measure. 3. At the return counter, two clerks were audible fighting (i mean yelling and screaming) about who should take the shopping cart of merchandise to the back. You will wait on line for a long time. Based on the outside you'd never know, but this location is really big. They have all the typical things you'd expect Home Depot to have and a lot of flower and plant options as well. The only issue I have with this store is their customer service. Since I was a kid, I always remember hearing my family talk about which Home Depot we would go to based on our needs for the day. Depending on the store and the department you need, you could expect different levels of customer service. This specific store works the same way. When it comes to bathroom supplies, staff seems to be available and more than willing to lend a hand. I came in looking for a specific faucet and within 5 minutes I had 3 people helping me out with SMILES on their faces. Then a few weeks later I was back looking for floor tiles. After asking 3 different members of staff (two of whom made an announcement for someone to come help me in aisle 39), I still had to drag someone over from another department to answer a question about pricing. I appreciate the fact that this store is close by, but next time I'll try to come prepared with some strong friends or my contractor. read more

Waited an hour to try and quickly get a wheel barrow. I came in knowing exactly what I needed but they have no system in place to actually allow you to purchase them. They are locked up in front of the store. First you need to find someone from home depot and they need to page someone from gardening. Then you go outside and show Them what you want . Then the person from gardening has to page the manager who has the key. Then they bring it In the store for you to stand in line for 20 minutes to ultimately bring it back outside... Trying to flag down a worker to help you is almost impossible. They will try to avoid you or pretend you didn't say anything. If the previous two options don't work, they will give you a blank stare, followed by directing you to a random aisle far away from them. Workers at the guest services/ pick up desk are more concerned with texting on their phones than assisting customers. They will make you wait until they're bored of talking on the phone with their girlfriend/boyfriend or done updating their status on Facebook. After making a u turn away from Costco off the BQE i decided to hit home depot about a mile away and nothing great here folks but they got the basic from A to Z and the parking lot had plenty of spots. Not that big inside but everything is easy to find and if you had trouble finding a home depot SLACKER to help you in the past them you will be really out of luck with the dreaded covid 19 around. I got my bulbs , plaster , liquid Drano type , and a few other useful semi OVERPRICED items. I am giving a 5 star review because of a specific employee. Daniel manages the gardening area, and he is amazing. I approached him with my inquiry and he went above and beyond taking care to answer questions and work with me every step of the way. This gentleman should be in charge of training ALL employees to insure a great customer experience. In addition to all of the things he was juggling such as other inquiries while helping me, he was asked to make a delivery. He was efficient and had a great attitude about everything. Upper management should take notice. I always complain about Home Depots customer service, but clearly they are improving. One person can change the whole culture of employees. This Home Depot is some sort of a joke? I placed an online order at 3 pm for a tower fan. The fan was in stock at the store. I received a confirmation for pickup and that I would receive a text when the product was ready for pick up within 2 hours. After 3 hours I decide to call to see if it was ready and they had possibly forgot to update the online system. I was on hold waiting to speak to someone for 30 minutes. It sounded like someone had picked up but then immediately put me back on hold? I waited to see if they would come back for 10 minutes. Nothing. So I call again and this time I'm on hold for 55 minutes when a similar situation happens... someone picks up and then puts me back on hold. Then at 10:30 PM, 30 minutes before the store closes I get a text from Home Depot saying my order has been cancelled. Save yourself some time and go anywhere else and please don't try to call them because they will never answer? read more

I ordered something for curbside pick up to avoid having to go into the store. I never got a confirmation email, so I went inside to see if I could pick the item up myself. The customer service rep was extremely rude and dismissive and told me I could "pick the order if I could find the items." I gave her the benefit of the doubt since it's an especially stressful time - but the rest of the staff around the store had the same attitude. As I looked for the product I bought, I also saw reps dropping fans off of the shelving units from the top of the ladder, totally disregarding the fact that they were likely damaging product. Long story short, Home Depot charged me for a product they didn't actually have in stock, and neglected to inform me that I'd have to wait for the product indefinitely. Take your energy and $$$$ elsewhere.
