Terrible service from the old, fat, bearded dude that works the register. I couldn't complete a propane exchange outside on a second tank after my first exchange went through fine. The employee never got off his butt while telling me that the outside machine does not work the way I told him it had worked for me. He said only a cashier can complete the transaction and provide a code to start the exchange. I showed him the receipt and he still said it doesn't work that way. The sign says it does but he insisted the sign says to come inside and pay a cashier. So he's called me a liar. Ace Hardware has great employees. read more

June 19, 2025 - Ordered pickup, it all fit in the locker, so I didn't have to talk to anyone. I got home and realized they gave me the wrong item. I went to the HD in Dundalk because it's closer to me. They said I had to return it to the original store where I bought it, because they made the mistake. July 5, 2025 - FINALLY did the return. It went bad. I told them what happened. I was told, "It's the same thing, what's the problem?" I replied, "No, it is not the same thing." I showed them my digital receipt with a picture and even the Item Number. I showed them the physical item they gave me and told them the numbers don't match. I was told in so many words that I was lying. Finally got reimbursed. After telling 3 people the same story. By the way, I am a woman, so that could have been a factor since the 3 people who helped me were all men. read more

They are polite, however, they're terrible about getting their curbside orders out. I've placed two curbside orders in that past couple of days; both orders I had to go inside after ~20 mins, which completely defeats the purpose of curbside pick up. read more

Purchased a new range oven in store And confirmed a $40 haul away service for my elderly parents when new range was delivered . They refused to take away because I detachable Oven door was not on . It slips back on easily , The were to leave My parents a stove range in their kitchen . Had multiple calls with management at the store they said they could reschedule a new delivery a week from today after thanksgiving . And they were waiting for pictures of the stove they had to haul away I guess the customer isn't right here , nor is the customer service . read more

Ahhh...the working man's version of a shoe store. I stopped to get some lumber and needed to have it cut. I was in the store for about 20min, 18 of which was spent trying to find someone to operate the saw. At last, a woman (Sylvia) in a HD apron is walking my way. I ask her for her and without thought, she points and tells me to go "down there". She said someone "down there" should be able to help you. I ask why she couldn't and she said because she doesn't work here (I'm in front of the saw in the lumber area). A few minutes later Sam comes into view. I ask him for help and he immediately says, I can take care of that for you. He does, and appears genuinely eager to do so. SAM, and SAM only, is the reason for the stars!! Sylvia needs a lesson in teamwork. 1. Don't point me in the direction you think may be right, escort me so we are both clear 2. If you don't know, find out 3. Why oh why is it so hard to find someone to help you. Perhaps the economy, maybe not enough help. Yet, you should know your products. I made two trips for different items. I asked one worker for faucet washers, like the box with assorted sizes. He said they didn't have any. On the second trip I found them myself. When I was checking out and waiting for self check, one of the cashiers called me over to his register. Then he helped another customer and made me wait, by then I would have just checked out. So it might seem picky, but I could have done amazon or gone to Ace. Little things make the experience. read more

On May 7th I ordered a new bathroom vanity to be delivered and was given a Date of May 16th for arrival. It didn' t arrive. In talking to the Non Stop Delivery Service they use they said they never got the order. Home Depot said it was ordered. After much conversation I received a new date of Monday May 22nd and waited all day until I got a robo call saying it would come May 23rd between 9 and 1 o'clock. By now my contractor probably thinks I have lost my mind since I kept putting him off. Well it arrived today and is damaged and the delivery person had me fill out papers to that effect so now I am nowhere. I will start all over but now with Home Depot. Eric at their customer service desk is phenomenal. I found a mower on the website that indicated it had a clearance price, but it only applied in-store. It was a great price for a really highly rated mower that I had been searching for quite a bit. The website said the store had limited stock. I ran down to the store. Eric looked up the SKU and it appeared the mower was all sold out. Having thought I missed out on it, I turned to leave the store. Eric stopped me and offered to walk me outside to show me what mowers they had available. Lo and behold, when we got outside, there it was - the mower I was looking for. I'm not sure why it didn't show up when he searched for it in their system. However, had Eric not taken that extra step, I certainly would have missed out. It may seem like a small thing, him taking that extra step, but I was so incredibly appreciative that he did. It's hard to find that kind of customer service these days, but Home Depot has it with Eric. Give that man a raise or a bonus! Paid 35 dollars for measuring and a quote. Ordered carpet and plank flooring and they did 75 % of the bedroom floor and walked out and told me to buy more flooring. This girl Yasmin was 100 ft short on the bedroom and 150 ft short on the family room and Lord knows how short the carpeting was. I just chose to lose 1200 bucks and walk away. Leon was absolutely amazing at helping me find everything I need. I had a long list of items and he patiently helped me to locate and acquire many of them. Some of the other staff members I asked for assistance just pointed me in the direction of the items or told me which aisle to check in, but Leon walked me right to them. He was very polite, very patient, and very kind. I really appreciated his assistance. This is not a five star review because of some of the issues I had at check out. I was buying a step ladder and there was a difference in the price. The description on the price tag on the rack seemed to correspond with my item, but not the sku number... which would mean that I would ultimately be paying more for the item. The cashier called over the head cashier, who told me the sku was not the same on the item as it was on the price tag (which I took a photo of for reference). I told her that the description matched the item but she would not change the price. I asked to speak to the manager, who tried to treat me like I couldn't read. I explained the situation to her and tried to show her a picture of the price tag on the rack (which was located only inches from the ground) so she wouldn't have to bend all the way down there to read the tiny numbers. Instead, she rudely waved my phone away with her hand and said "We don't accept pictures here." Uh-huh. So we schlep back there and I tell her the same thing I just told her about the item description and pointed it out to her so she could see for herself, and she miraculouy came to the same conclusion I did... as if I hadn't just told her this morning moments earlier. This wasn't verification; she just blatantly had not been listening to me. Long story short, I ended up getting the price reduction that was owed to me. I bought a toilet $229 I couldn't find a flat bed to put on I asked 5 people shifts were changing I finally found the manager (blond young lady) she asked someone to help me Curtis then I paid at the customer service cashier and asked to send me someone to assist me putting the toilet in my car young man by the name rutz or Rodger something like that very respectful young man helped me. (6-615 pm) when I came home later this evening I realized I had lost a Home Depot bag with a can of rustolium black semi gloss paint and receipts and some some notes in blue sticky pads. I called and Holly put me on 13 minutes wait. I called again and she hanged up on me I called third time and Sharon answered I asked to let me speak to Holly after 5 minutes wait she came on the phone and said she will connect me with the manager ! Waited for another 12 minutes no one answered I guess manager and stuff close to leaving time they don't care to serve you! (845pm-915pm) terrible service this store needs major turn around to succeed in that area!! Unfortunately we leave In Woodbine and it's a 20 minute ride for us! This 5 star review is strictly ONLY for the garden department. The rest of this store needs a lot of improvement. There is a wonderful selection of flowers, plants and products for the gardener. Any time I have gone and need to find something or needed information on plants Jackie always seems to be there and is very knowledgeable and helpful. I couldn't leave a zero star, so I'll go with a one. I went to Home Depot today in Ellicott City and once again- the same thing happen to me. I had questions on where to find shoe covers. The gentleman pointed to an isle. I go there, can't find them, walk around looking and looking for help. btw - this was 8:15am on a Saturday morning - I could be right, but isn't that there busy time? Well, I finally get help and find them. I go to check out. The self check is closed and there is ONE register open. The line went back to paint, at least 15 people ahead of me. Pure Insanity. if you ever wonder why Lowe's is cleaning your clock - THIS IS WHY. so, after waiting for 10 minutes or so and the line moving 3-4 people. The self checkout opens. I think they were trying to fix it. I rush to get my 3 shoe covers paid for so I can get out the door. I scan - nothing, I scan again, nothing....well, now they tell me, oh sorry - it must not be fixed yet, please get back in line. well, by now - there are like 20 people ahead of me. I literally toss them on the self check out and walk out....along with several others. PURE INSANITY. this Home Depot is so poorly run - it's hard to describe. I have been to this Home Depot is POOR service many times and never written on Yelp about it. Today was the last straw. Not going back and writing to warn other. I am doing major renovations to my home this year and have found the team at Home Depot to be outstanding. I would say, I deal with them about three times a week (old home, big renovation). I appreciate their time and expertise each time they help me. In particular, the paint department staff has guided me in picking the right products from caulking to sealers and paint. Looking at the other reviews on Yelp, I would agree with the difficulties of working with Home Depot 800 number, but working with the people at this store is great. read more

Let me preface by saying that I have killed more plants (indoor and outdoor) than I care to share... I stopped in here Saturday afternoon to pick up some plants for our balcony garden. Given the beautiful weather it was truly madness in the garden section. What stood out to me about this place, is that it seemed to have much better stock than any other Home Depot in the area (Columbia, College Park, and Laurel locations I'm looking at you.) Most of the plants looked fairly healthy and there was plenty of items to choose from; including some I have not seen at other locations. I ran into Mrs. Z, a Home Depot employee working in the Garden section, who must've read my overwhelmed face. She not only made me laugh, but was able to put me on the right track on what I needed. It's hilarious that Home Depot spends money to conduct "customer surveys." What a waste. There is one basic principle to customer service: Employees need to help the customers. This is really all that Home Depot needs to have its employees do: When you see a customer ask if they need help. The end. Do that and save countless dollars on marketing and PR. Unfortunately, the employees in this store don't quite get that they have to help customers. You get the feeling a customer could be on the floor, trapped under 30 planks of wood and they'd just walk by, talking among themselves or communicating on those stupid walkie talkie devices. Since Home Depot = bad service, the least they could do is put "store maps" online, so customers can navigate their wares by themselves -- since that's what they have to do anyway. read more

We are redoing our bathroom and we're looking for tiles for the shower wall. We thought going at night would be less stressful and crowded. Well wrong decision if you are expecting minimum help. We didn't need anyone to pull anything or show us how to lay a tile. We didn't even need help calculating amount of tiles lol. We know math, we know how to measure and calculate, and fortunate for you read the box. We work in retail, know how precious your time is, last thing you want to hear at 8:00 is how many tiles do I need for this amount? When the box freaking tells you how many square feet, for each tile they like, just to go play with rugs after 30 minutes. Believe me I know the frustration of a sound mind customer needing to be spoon fed. HOWEVER. I don't know if they are resetting the displays or what, tiles are everywhere. Bin locations are not accurate, some have a different location on the beams. Still we mind our business and muddle through the ripped disheveled boxes. Nowwwww here comes the freight team or disgruntled flooring associate who didn't care if we were looking at tiles. He just rolls his carts full of tiles one by one right in front of us, no hello, no do you need help locating? Not a peep. There was another gentleman who didn't work in that department who asked if we needed help. At this point we were over it as there was now another woman scanning the beams in and out in between us.. once she reached in between us, I looked at her. THEN she said excuse me. Wth??!! We put our tiles down on the freight pallet now in the way of what we had been looking at. I placed a curbside pickup order a day in advance. Was notified my order was ready. Came to pick it up hours later. Followed all directions when I arrived. Then had to wait OVER AN HOUR to receive my order. I even went inside to make sure they were aware I was waiting, and was told to go sit in my car "they're working on it" Isn't the point of a curbside pickup order a day in advance that it would be ready for you when you are told it's ready. This took twice as long as if I just walked in and purchased these items normally. Absolutely terrible management here. read more

I had an awful experience with HD last night... I'm building this loft storage space in my garage. I spend a couple hundred bucks with them. I take the lumber home and start to proceed with my cut plan. I needed 4 of the 2x4s at the 8' length, so I set them aside and cut the rest. I'm putting things together and I realize something isn't right. It turns out that one of the 2x4s is short by 3-4 inches. I was so frustrated. I had to take it out and basically stop my project. I had every right to be furious. I go back to HD to replace with an 8' length of 2x4. I was there late, after the lumber people left, and the people at the returns desk were AWFUL. They were arguing with me and being difficult. Yes, it had 4 holes in it, because I had it installed and had to pull it off. Why did they sell my an 8' piece of lumber that wasn't 8'? I normally like shopping at this location but this H.D. has gone downhill. They have pitched any Covid prevention protocols out. It was packed with people, employees did not follow social distancing and not only have they stopped wiping the self checkout down when you used it, there was a hand sanitizer station at the end of the self checkout and there wasn't even a bottle of sanitizer in it. read more

I made the mistake of coming here at 8:15. The only person I could find sitting at a desk was in appliances. I asked her if there was someone to help with shower door installation she said "over there" staing in doors and pointed in the distance. I asked how about tile installation again she said "doors". Several people passed by after that including a tall bald guy who looked at me like I was something stuck to his shoe and walked by. I saw an employee who was hauling lumbar and had a mishap, he apologized for there not being anyone at the door desk area. This location is very poorly run and not customer friendly outside of a couple individuals I had met during the day, a young man in tiles and a lady in lumber named Haven or something close to that. read more

UPDATE 2.3.17: I emailed this review to HD, per their request. Have yet to hear a response. Which is fine- I didn't ask for one. BUT the exact same thing happened today at the exact same HD, Ellicott City, with a different employee. I gave him the sku number of the items I needed. I had just looked online and saw they had 20 (!) of the fans I needed (I only needed 2.) He promptly looked it up on his phone and told me they didn't have any. I asked him to come with me just to double check and I found them in about 30 seconds. Seriously. AGAIN?!?! He was super apologetic, but anybody else would NOT have looked them up online, and NOT have insisted on going to look for the items. I think maybe since it's happened multiple times now- that employees just agree to say the item is not in the store if they don't understand how to find it. read more

Don't go to this Home Depot if you plan to buy screws (which is arguably one of the most busy and necessary aisles of a hardware store) at 12:00 pm on a Thursday because they lose the aisle down while at least 10 people are trying to shop. Have a question about screws? Forget their juvenile staff just says I don't know the aisle is closing. read more

Went in to have a key made. Asked a cashier for assistance. The cashier called twice over the intercom for someone to make a key for me. Waited around for over ten minutes and nobody came to make the key for me. Left after waiting for so long. Most of the employees were just standing around and talking with one another. With that many employees standing around you would think one of them knows how to use the key machine. read more

Edited to include a public reply to the Customer Service response to my review. I wanted to play a game at the Ellicott City location today. I call it the, "Let's see how long this will take game". You might notice I said wanted. I use the past tense because I never got to finish the game. After pacing back and forth 4 or 5 times looking for something I know Home Depot carries, I stood in the middle of the plumbing aisle waiting for someone with an orange apron to come by. By now it's been over half an hour, so I walked to the end of the aisle where I saw a man wearing the aforementioned orange apron. I asked if he covered the plumbing aisle. What I got was a blank stare for a few seconds followed by some words which I assume he thought were in English. AND he just went back to what he was doing, ignoring the fact that I was looking for help. So, already annoyed, I walk over to the self checkout lanes and, excusing myself for interrupting what had to be a very amusing conversation (and catching a good bit of stink eye for the interruption), ask if someone could be paged to the plumbing aisle. I heard the page as I walked back to the plumbing section. I get there and the associate is already helping someone else. He walks off, I guess to help the other guy with his problem. 10 more minutes waiting and I am just done. This certainly not the first time I've problems like this. Even when you do get someone, they don't seem to know much about the products they stock. I've often said these are people who are equally qualified to scoop ice cream, but in some cases I doubt they could even do that with any skill. I work in Ellicott City, so the location is convenient. In the future, I'm going to forgo the convenience and drive a couple miles down the road to Clark's Ace Hardware. It might cost be a bit more, but I know I'll get prompt and knowledgeable help when I need it. I recommend everyone do the same. We're all better off in the long run supporting small businesses anyway. ********************* My response to Customer Service: I see no need to send an email to go over my concerns with this location. I don't need any more apologies - I need hardware/lumber/parts, etc. In other words, I don't go shopping just to stand in aisles. No surprise... 20 minutes in the hardware aisle and not one orange apron in sight. Walked to the Pro Desk and asked for someone to be paged. Waited 10 more minutes and decided to walk to the Service Desk to ask for a manager. 5 minutes there and he/she was unavailable. Walked back to the Pro Desk and asked if anyone was available to cut chain. Finally got someone. SO... roughly 40 minutes to accomplish what could have been taken care of in 5 minutes or less.
