I am a huge fan of Home Depot and this trip just made me more sure of coming here. I was hanging an electric clock in the kitchen and I had to uncover an outlet that been covered for 45 years. What a mess I found. Brough a picture to the store and within minutes and just 13 dollars later I had what I need with the proper instruction and boom... clock was hanging after just 30 minutes of making the changes. The folks I speak to are always right on the money and if they don't know the answer, they find someone who does. My brother and I traveled all the way here from DC to do some work on a family member's house, who recently passed away. This house needs literally everything, and our plan is to do as much of the work as possible ourselves. Today will be the first of many trips at this hardware store, for all of the work that we need to complete over the next three weeks. I started out with a large case of plastic garbage bags construction grade, so that we can begin clearing out all of the junk. I also purchased two rakes, 3 bags of mulch, a shovel, and potting soil. He already had a lawnmower and most of the lawn care tools that we need fortunately. I got different types of cleaning solutions for all of the bathrooms and hardwood floors. Paper towels were also important to get on this first trip. After a couple of days, we will figure out what other things that we need to buy, and I'm sure it will be a lot. read more

Stopped by Hone Depot to have a key made and what should have been a two minute stop turned into a 15 minute layover as I waited for someone to come to the outdated key kiosk! (FYI Lowe's has a self service key machine that's quick and easy to u) After asking the one working casher to page someone Frank showed up! He was pleasant, professional and made the key in just under one minute! This Home Depot location needs a makeover, it has the feel of a store that's just barely making it! read more

The best thing about Home Depot (this location for me in particular) is convenience. The worst thing is just about everything else here. It starts when you arrive to the parking lot to see groups of people loitering - most likely day workers looking to score a gig? The general disorder with trash, old paint spills all around and carts taking as many spots as the cars. It's obvious that management and those guys that drive around in cars with a fancy yellow light on top (Security? ok, if you say so.) just don't care. The people that work inside generally don't seem to care too much either - if you can find one and try to ask for an item or advice they always look at you like "why are you bothering me with this?". Perhaps it is me - I know I have that RB face thing going on, but I always try to be extra nice and polite to no avail. My most recent trip to buy a fill valve for my toilet all the boxes looked like they were already used with the top all frayed and torn apart - how do you sell items like this? (actually this worked out, I went with the Korky brand fill valve for a $1 more than the one that was in my toilet already it was quieter and fills faster.. go figure! It's the little things...) Also don't try to order online and expect to have the item ready for pickup, in my experience, it never was - more hassle and time wasted than it is worth. Not all Home Depots are as bad as they tend to be in NYC and LI - the ones in PA are completely different stores - great service, friendly, clean. I must say even pleasant. But you gotta do what you gotta do in the name of convenience. read more

Had to place a star but wouldn't if forced to. I ordered a snowblower on line the site said they had 12 ready to go and I paid 704 for the item. I was told I would get an email and a text within two hours that it would be ready the notification never came. I called two times to see what the story was and was given the run around the first time and told it's a 50-50 chance there would be one in the store ... and a 50-50 chance the store May be closed Tomorrow .... I asked for a refund and was told I would receive an email telling me that the money would be given back ... still waiting on the email. This service is terrible and not a great way to be doing business horrible experience. read more

Ok so here is my review of Home Depot not the day laborers or homeless people in the lot. Many reviews have to do with homeless people or people outside looking for a work this is not a review that depicts the actual store what goes on in the parking lot is beyond their control. Take it up with local law-enforcement or your local politicians. Home Depot obviously has everything you can think of! The prices are phenomenal. My only gripe is that customer service can be choppy. Certain people are specialists in certain areas. If you're looking for individualized service this is not the place. If you know exactly what you want then this is definitely the place. I give it four stars because the place is clean I have no issues with customer service other than sometimes it's hard to find. FYI great by the hour truck rentals! read more

A beggar asked me for money in the parking lot. He supposedly wanted to get something to eat at the Burger King located at the same shopping plaza. When I refused, he shouted, "Go to hell!" Note to self: Avoid going to this BK location, too. Better yet, don't go to this shopping plaza at all. He then approached a woman loading items into the trunk of her car. Oh, yeah, I was shopping for a specific doormat. According to the HD app, the Hempstead location had 12 in stock. They were none in stock. The HD online inventory tracker is useless. This location is very busy all of the time. People actually come from Baldwin, Freeport and Merrick because the Home Depot in Freeport is bad. That's what people tell me, I don't know from personal experience. The store is nicely laid out. Some other locations are poorly laid out and the registers are not close enough to the exit. The registers here are right at the exit. Returns / customer service is right by the entrance so at times it gets crowded by the entrance. Otherwise not an issue. The line for returns moves somewhat fast. Lines for the registers at the garden department do move slowly. There is a good selection of plants and other supplies. 95% of the time I can find what I need. There is usually someone around to help with the exception of getting keys made. I usually have to wait for help. The staff in the paint department is very helpful. There is usually good sales on appliances. The parking lot gets a little crazy and there are always "day laborers" looking for work. All in all a good place for your home improvement needs. read more

Visiting another location of Home Depot made me realized how dirty and poorly ran their Hempstead, NY location is. Trying to find an employee to answer a question is a task by itself. The checkout lines are always long and at least one of the kiosks to self checkout in broken. The worst part about what is already a bad customer experience is the parking lot. I would strongly recommend to everyone that you escort your wife and/or daughters if they go there as the parking lot is filled with scary people. read more

DO NOT get any home improvement work done through home Depot. I ordered my counter top through them and they sent somebody to template my counter tops. We very specifically said we did not want to touch the backsplash. The person who measured the counter tops tore out my entire backsplash leaving 5 gaping holes, dangling light switches and outlets, and blew a fuse. Home Depot refused to help me at all with the matter and even had the audacity to tell me as a favor they will cover the $300 charge that they usually charge to take down backsplash which we didn't want to begin with. read more

I've been told this is a great Home Depot with a very wide selection. I've No idea how it got this reputation. They're all out of 1.5" inch and 2" pvc pipes. I've never seen a Home Depot run out of these basic items before. The other plumbing items are surprisingly few and far between. What makes things even worse is that they have this big wire stand alone shelf with lose metal wire mesh hanging out and I just ripped my pants on it trying to find some pvc items which they didn't have anyway. It also has the biggest gathering of day laborers I've ever seen in any Home Depot parking lot. Finally I had to instruct the cashier how to enter my coupon code. I hope I never come back to this place as long as I live. Postscript: one of the items we bought turned out to be previously opened and unusable. Went looking for some light bulbs and tried to ask an employee who happened to be a old man with the nastiest attitude this side of the country. All I said Was excuse me can you show me were the light bulbs are? And his response? "What do you need help with that for? Just go look for it" and then he walks away. WTF!?? What do you say about a place that reeks of terribleness? If I could give this place a negative score I would, 1 star is generous. Now where do I begin??? When you come into the maze of a parking lot that's shared with Old Navy and Stop and Shop, make sure you avoid everything. Upon entering the front door, you will definitely be greeted by dirty looks and unfriendliness. Now once you get your bearings, if you have any questions your better calling 411 cause nobody there will give any help finding products or directing you to where you will find them. Now l do want to give a special shout out to the front cashier staff ... yo yo yo ... take anger management and try not hating people! Maybe start with a cup of motivation every morning and smiling wouldn't hurt! Overall I would give this a negative 3.5 since I didn't get to see the bathroom which given the level of caring their employees have I'm sure is one step above a homeless shelter. If you can avoid this place, please do as you will just be unpleasantly dissatisfied. On a side note to Home Depot: your employees walk around with headphones in their ears and walk around showing everyone their Americas Next Talent Rap Edition auditions. I had a very bad experience today at the Hempstead Store. I needed to but fencing and bricks located in the outdoor garden area. The front automatic doors were closed. I went to back of store doors which were partially open though not automatically opening and off their track. Asked 2 sales associates if garden area was closed, they said no. Told them about door. Rather than help me they said just push the door open myself. I did and hurt my back in doing so. All on store security cameras. When got home e-mailed store, Manager of course has not gotten back to me. I'm not trying to get a lawsuit out of this but telling customers to push open a heavy glass door that is off its track is putting the customer in danger. read more

I'm working on a gardening project and have never gardened a day in my life, so it was extremely helpful to have an associate point me in the right direction and in some instances answer really dumb questions. Had some minor cosmetic things to do around the house, so we hit up the Home Depot. Sometimes, my husband and I like to wander around the store and look for ways we can upgrade our home (light switches, outlet covers, fans, etc.) Anyway, I like that it's open later, I like that they'll accept returns of things I didn't use (like spare light covers!), I've never had a negative experience with the sales staff, but never an amazing experience that blew me away either. There was one time we talked to a guy in the appliance section for a while. He was knowledgeable about washers and dryers because he used to repair them for a living. As usual, coming here was a waste of time. I don't know why I bother. In theory, it should be great - a warehouse of stuff. But it always seems like they don't have the things that I am looking for. In this case, I came in looking for a dolly to use to move some furniture. Finding it took a while - staff gestured toward the garden section as the place to look. When I arrived in the garden section, no staff were around. Finally I located dollys - but I have to buy them four to the box. I don't need four dollys, I need one. I left and found a friend to lend me a dolly. read more
