A lifesaver here. Late evening and I'm in my Sprinter van needing a small piece of wood to use for a quick repair. Just a scrap piece of think plywood and lo-and-behold, they had a really good bin of scraps here. Yes, they're not free but it was this or not getting a good night's sleep as the previous piece snapped. The store is reasonably tidy and I had no problem working out where things were. The store is massive, same as other Home Depots elsewhere. All the things that you need to build, fix, improve your home from lumber and bricks to garden tools and plants, to actual tools and nails and screws. They even have lighting, cables and appliances. I was very pleased, finding what I needed and being rung up by a nice young lady who didn't question my rather odd purchase. All good here! This is another update. I foolishly tried to order a handheld vac attachment yesterday because they said they could deliver it yesterday. Of course they did not. Their web site said that there was an attempted delivery, but at the time of the so called attempted deliver I was five feet from the door. Avoid like the plague. COVID or otherwise. read more

My experience at the Home Depot in Middletown was pretty typical overall. The store was clean, organized, and had the usual wide selection of tools and materials. Staff were available when needed, though not overly proactive, (exception to self checkout employees) and checkout moved at a reasonable pace. Unfortunately, they are the only source for lots of home improvement items, but if there's anywhere else you can go for something, do it. DO NOT WORK HERE. Employees are constantly over scheduled and DISRESPECTED. I am fed up with hearing how my partner gets walked all over, over scheduled and overworked like crazy. He has two jobs and asked to be only part time. This is the fourth week he has been put on for full time instead and is now working 60 hour weeks. He understood needing extra help for a week of two but at this point Home Depot is absolutely taking advantage of his kind nature. I worked in Retail for 10 years, so I know how it all works, and this store is by far the worst! Recently, I went in to get help with Trex. There were no employees in sight. When my SO went to find someone, they said they only worked plumbing and could not help me. Whaaaaat??? He asked me 3 times what I was referring to to which I replied... Trex... Composite Decking... Decking, but not wood. He said he had no idea as I directed him to the display. At last, he finds the Assistant Store Manager... He can help! The ASM tells me the Customer Service Desk, the one that handles returns can help me with that? Ummm... No! Rather than escort me, or have an associate walk me over, he points. Are you kidding me?? To humor him and waste my own time, I walked over to find one 20-something worker who looked like he had never labored his entire life was on the phone with a customer. Rather than waste additional time, I walked out and ordered online. I also HAVE to buy things here for work as I work in Newport, and the employees are mostly unhelpful and absolutely miserable. Listen, I didn't choose your job. If you don't want to help me, that's fine, but it is your job. You get paid to help me, wear a smile and do your job! The self checkouts are a mixed bag. Horrible service! I online ordered 2 10 x 48 white laminate shelves for in store pick up, they ended up giving me 2 10 x 48 shelves. Went back to home depot to return/exchange the shelves and they only had a damaged one on display. So we asked and supposedly 10 shelves were in shock, but they couldn't find them. So customer service ordered us 2 new shelves online to be delivered to us within 2 days. What happens next? I kid you not they brought the exact same damaged one off their shelf and delivered it and left it at my front door without knocking or me signing anything. They left the unsigned "I accept/reject delivery document" at my front door. I call Home Depot customer service and they promised next day delivery and exchange for the shelves AND IT HAS NOT HAPPENED! Never EVER have I had a problem with Home Depot until now. Based on my experience, I'm shocked to see the overall rating so low. But I also know Yelp will hide most positive reviews. This location is great. The staff are always available and friendly and don't make you feel like an idiot for asking for help finding something. Every time I stop in I have to find something but don't even know what it's called. They must train their people in charades to be able to guess what the hell "normal people" are looking for in a hardware store. One thing I've found especially helpful is the app. You can search for what you need ahead of time and it will show you on a map layout of the store where the item is. I've shopped at this store since the day they opened. I purchased a refrigerator 4 years ago that died recently. I had purchased a warranty on it but returned the first appliance and had to order another due to size. According to HD warranty- they should have transferred my warranty. Home Depot appliance department told me that they had refunded me the money and I had no warranty. Sorry about my luck. I just spent 2k to buy a replacement fridge at Sears. This am Home Depot warranty calls to book my repair. Because apparently I do have a warranty. Yet the appliance saleswoman and the woman in customer service who I spent an hour on the phone with at HD warranty told me I didn't. So again, sorry about your luck. It's pretty similar to every Home Depot I've been to this far...the only exception is the exemplary customer service. Example 1: during the preparations for snowmagedeon (aka super blizzard) the store was full of disgruntled and rushed customers. The scene dwarfed any Black Friday or event I've been a part of. The staff was amazing! Not only moving the essentials inside that people were looking for but also answering a multitude of questions. They were posted on between aisles and crushing the customer service. Example 2: I was getting stuff do a home repair project and as usual had more stuff than I needed. The gentleman at the depot (street name) not only talked me out of getting the stuff I didn't need but recommended items that cost less and worked great! Example 3: I ran into some friends also at the depot. They had a 1-2 year old with them who was less than excited to be at the hub of DIY repairs. One of the employees near the registers walked up and gave the child some little clicker that was attached to her name tag. Not only did the kid love it but the employee said they could keep it. I went to this home depot this morning to return several items and pick up a replacement item. The person at the return counter was very helpful and I thought this would be a quick trip. I went to the aisle where the tub drains are and was looking at a couple of different options. I had to read the packaging carefully, because I was looking for something specific. A gentleman came along and said that we (he and I) had to move. Apparently they were planning to shut down that aisle to do something. I explained that I needed just a minute to make a decision, He insisted that we had to leave that aisle. I put the products down and left. If I can't have a minute to make a decision here, I can certainly get it at Lowe's. read more

Very pleased with the service I received from two different associates at Home Depot Middletown. Heather was extremely knowledgeable and willing to spend time with me to order a pendant light fixture for my kitchen, as well as the right bulbs for outdoor fixtures. She also pointed out clever kitchen cabinet enhancements for shelving and pull-outs, and arranged an appointment with their kitchen designer. The next day I had an appointment with Kim Sullivan, ( one of) their Kitchen Designer. OMG She is so knowledgeable, helpful and efficient. I told her what I hoped to do with a kitchen enlargement project, and she was able to provide a design using the proposed new larger kitchen layout. With pricing estimates. Today 12-24-16 I went there to try to get an Echo Dot because the online system said they may have some in stock. I drove 50 mins to get there. Long story short; When I arrived, I was welcomed at the door by Daniel. He knew exactly what I needed. He looked high and low trying to find one and wouldn't let me give up until he tried everything he could think of. Low and behold they in fact were out of stock... That's not the end of the story... Before I turned to leave, Daniel said to me that if I could wait until 5pm, he would give me one of his own personal Echo Dots from his house.... Nicely done my friend. Nicely done.... I'm torn about this location. Generally the employees are friendly. Some are significantly more knowledgeable in their department than others. And most try to do a decent job. They do have a couple crazies. One woman didn't want to leave the warmth of her outdoor garden booth to help me because it was "too cold" as I am standing there speaking with her from outside her booth. Seriously? But a couple bad apples shouldn't spoil it for you. Policy-wise, Home Depot is heading down hill. As of early 2017, store credits now require IDs not only to get the credits but to use them at the register. Seriously? If I paid cash for your crap, Home "Despot", then you should have no problem crediting for your product if its returned in salable condition...without a freakin ID. As for that Husky "lifetime guarantee". What a pain in the ass. See, every few years quite a few tools are either discontinued or simply not easily obtained. If that happens don't expect to return your Husky hand tool to Home Depot for a replacement. If they have no equivalent (which is what happened today when I returned my 5+ year old broken micro/mini-head ratchet) then the store manager will tell you to deal with Husky and the manufacturer of Home Depot's Husky products will tell you to deal with Home Depot. They basically punt the problem to each other. In-store customer service is useless for handling lifetime warranty exchanges on older tools (5+ yrs). Just call Home Depot corporate Customer Care. Tell them you can't obtain an equivalent replacement from the store. They'll call the store, but ultimately they'll issue a store gift card by email. Here's the weird part....they asked me what I paid for the ratchet. Seriously? They can't just look that up in a database? I'm not necessarily going to remember what I paid over 5 years ago. I only recall it being in the $20s. They issued a $25 credit which seemed fair enough considering I had no receipt. I would have preferred the replacement. So it's not a horrible store, and I can only assume all other Home Depots suffer from similar issues. If I was rating just employees, I'd give it a 4. read more

Most of them are guessing when you ask them a question about a particular product for a particular application. Way too many people standing around here. I am 0 for 2 with getting keys made properly. I am giving a 5 star rating because of the really impressive help a slender young man,Owen, gave in wrestling a large A/C into my small 2-door coupe. He had to try several maneuvers to get the heavy box in the car. He is a huge credit to your company. Cheerful, polite & smart! Unlike a surly, burly man who grudgingly got the A/C off your pallet onto my cart. wish I had gotten his name so you could banish him to a basement! I enjoy going to this Home Depot! Everyone is professional and nice there. I wanted to take a minute to highlight Eleanor who took time to help me with my car remote battery. I needed to change the remote battery but they don't do that there. Eleanor wasn't sure so she paged in to find out and walked me all the way to the other side of the store. She helped me open the remote and placed the new battery for me. Eleanor was kind and truly a joy to be around. BUYER BEWARE!!! Avoid HD Kitchens!!! I needed some expert consultation in terms of what lighting options would be best, based on my ceiling height, etc. Cans were ordered, but HD did not order the trim or bulbs. After multiple messages back and forth with the electrician, I was left to urgently shop for the outstanding items the night before he was scheduled to install the recessed lights, or be punished with further delays on the project. Additionally, no light bulbs were ordered, which were also required for installation, the electrician needed to shop for these before he could complete the work. I ordered an incredible amount of merchandise for this project. Boxes were stacked ceiling high in a spare bedroom. Ceiling tiles and walls were damaged as a result. Many HUGE items were left on my lawn for the entire day because Home Depot doesn't carry everything in. Additionally, the anti-tip device was not installed. It has been my impression that this is a code requirement. I called to express my concern and was told that this device was optional. When I did a quick google search, i found anti-tip device has been a requirement since 1991. I verbally discussed a standard countertop backsplash in the kitchen with HD. At that time, we agreed upon a granite backsplash, using the same material for the rest of the countertops. This was overlooked. The countertop folks came out to template in October 2018. When they arrived, they found that the sink that HD had ordered was incompatible with the vanity and therefore the counter top could not be templated at this time. This resulted in a missed day of work for me. Then, I needed to urgently order replacement sinks on Amazon prime, on my own. I was also required to cart the incompatible sinks back to home depot for return and micromanage the reimbursement process. The counter top folks eventually came back to install the counter top on the upstairs bathroom. I called Stone Systems and after they investigated, it was determined that the counter top template was fabricated (and subsequently installed) UPSIDE DOWN. They requested to come back out AGAIN and re-template both bathrooms using "a more accurate method." Days after the drain traps were installed in the kitchen sinks, the products were rusted. I was instructed to scrub the rust with salt and lemon juice in order to remove the rust. Upon my request, alternative traps were installed and have not had any further issues with them. On 12/28/18 (still in the midst of this painfully long project), I came home to find a flood that originated from under my sink. Water had spilled in to the vanity, on to the tile floor, soaked through the wall and on to the carpet. In a panic, I called the contractor who contacted the plumber. The plumber hired a restoration company who came out emergently. My hallway carpet was ripped out, molding was removed and fans/ dehumidifiers have ran continuously for five days. Of note, one of the plumbers who was working in the home was speaking on his recreational marijuana use on the job. Not only am I concerned for the damage to my home, I also experienced spikes in my heating and electric bills for this mess. My hallway carpet was damaged (frayed edges on all 4 sides) and reinstalled damaged. I couldn't bear to drag this project out any further, so I left it as is. Holes were drilled in to my brand new custom cabinetry to assess damage. I tested my water and ice machine on my fridge after it had been installed, and it did not work. Unfortunately, the plumber involved in the issues above "forgot" to attach the water line (which I paid for). Additionally, I paid a large sum of money for the refrigerator to be installed. This translated to the fridge being plugged in. None of the shelves or bins were installed. When i reluctantly did it on my own, I noted that the acrylic dairy door was cracked and therefore couldn't be installed. Store management lacks ability to effectively manage and provide customer-centric service recovery. read more

The employees aren't as helpful or knowledgeable as they used to be and the harder to find items for anything other than a routine and typical plumbing fix are practically non-existent. Had some plumbing to do in a 100 year old house. I had some odd challenges to overcome in a tight space. I was slowly collecting all the pieces I needed to transition from a 1 1/2 steel drain pipe to a 1 1/4 pvc and started being harassed by a tremendously overweight HD employee. He repeatedly told me I couldn't do what I explained to him, started blocking me from the fittings and was less than helpful. I finally handed him my collection of fittings and left the store. I went to ACE hardware and they collected the fittings for me. Exact same pile of things I tried to purchase at HD. If they continue to hire idiots like "tiny" they will never see me in the store again. read more

Would never ever recommend doing a custom order nor installation with this store! The manager Shileah is terrible too. They basically told my husband and I a date for delivery, then claimed after part of it was delayed due to the manufacturer that those dates are only estimates and we either need to pay for another installation date or wait another month for the back order to be delivered. Might I add, we just bought a new home and I now have been dealing with crappy customer service for over a month with a NEWBORN! And the custom order was for a whole house of custom blinds.. with the cellular skylights being what were delayed! I am so aggravated that I am going to take the boxes back to the store and go without, that's how upsetting this is.. I mean we had to put cardboard up to to block the light, so why not save ourselves a grand! I've kept all the emails where the manager mentioned above acknowledges that our products and service has not been as expected but couldn't do anything to help us, then when she has or claims she could do something else, we need to pay something again! We were asked to leave the Middletown store today by some poor associate who was tasked by her nutless manager to get us out of the store. Said the store could be liable if my dog bit someone. Not expecting it to be much better, I asked a woman in he garden center if they had peat moss. She was courteous and very helpful. After helping me find it, she went and got me a cart, and later followed me to the register to ask if I wanted help to my car. What an awesome experience for shopping at a big box store!
