I ordered blinds from this home depot. I paid to have their person to come out and measure my windows. I was told the blinds would be delivered 4-6-26. One 3-31, I received an email stating they would be delivered 4-1-26. I waited and waited for the delivery, it never came. When I went to the store that evening, I was told they would be delivered 4-3-26. After attempting to explain that I would not be available and they were supposed to be delivered 4-1-26 and I have an email to validate that. At that point, they became extremely rude. I was told when they would be delivered and that was that. I was at home that day and the delivery driver was getting ready to leave them on the sidewalk. At that time I cancelled the order. I NEVER received an apology or an explanation for the mix up. I had been shopping at this store for 19 years, but no more. Additionally, most of the personnel speak EXTREMELY POOR ENGLISH. read more

She told me some1 does it and she would get them for me but needed me 2 clear the aisle because they had 2 stock sum inventory. I said ok. Waited by the appliances for her and the forklift driver 2 do their thang. They finished and assumed she would get the rug tech for me since I waited 32 minutes. No 1 showed up. I leave this store exasperated each time I have an item I need to return. On one occasion, I went to the Oaklawn Home Depot to return six items I had purchased from the store on one receipt. I didn't have my receipt with me so the associate returned each item separately (separate transaction) which caused the system to flag me and I can no longer make a return without a receipt. In January 2024, I returned excess unused materials with the receipts and was mandated to give my driver license because part of the purchase was made on a store credit. I was told a refund was applied to my two credit cards and $164 plus was put on store credit. I was told the card was not found when I attempted to use it at another Home Depot a month later! I returned to the Oaklawn store and spoke with the store manager who couldn't find any records of the store credit (orange card). He notified me shortly after I left the store, on reviewing the security footage, he didn't see the associate give me the orange card on that date. After I insisted she did, he called me back a second time and stated after a closer review she gave me the card in error. I am without the merchandise and the money. read more

I had a measurement for carpet, and was told to go into the store to select my carpet. After selecting I received a quote via email. I paid online and was told a week later i was told it was on back order. This occurred June 1, 24. To date I have not heard anything from home depot or installation department. When I call this store. All I get is being transferred and no one has called me back. I requested a refund and was told, someone will call me back. I am not pleased with my experience. I am being charged for product and it has not been completed. They waste no time billing for work not completed. I had gone to Home Depot to pick up materials for my basement renovation. I was fortunate enough to get Misheka Hutchins to assist me. She was very knowledgeable. She suggested two things that I would need to complete the shower bed. She reviewed my entire list with me and answered all my questions. Misheka gave such excellent service to me that when I had to go back for more supplies needed by the contractor I willing to wait until she returned from vacation. She definitely made me feel like a valued customer and made Home Depot look like the place to go to. I entered the store approximately 5:55pm on Sept 05,2022. I was wearing a gray San Francisco Barry Bonds Jersey black military cargo pants and green flop Sandals in case the manager Christina wants to check the camera. I approached an employee and asked where I could find WD40 lubricant at which time he said wait and kept walking. I followed two aisles over he was unaware I was behind him. At which time just before he entered the employees area near the wood department I called out and said I'm still waiting and where is the WD 40 located he said he did not know and I told him next time don't play games with me. Just bought the Whirlpool 22 cu ft fridge in sale $1098 with lower freezer. Great price and delivery service and a beautiful fridge. I had a side by side but love the wide upper fridge and lower freezer much better. They took the doors and drawer off to get it in. No damage and a great guy who did my install with helper. I've been fixing up my parent's yard (fencing, flowers and pots,love seat,etc.) and had to buy yard tools, building tools, paint, etc. I probably spent around 2 grand already. Some stuff I ordered online and shipped to the store and some I bought at the store. Stuff I had to order came in when promised and was just what I needed. If I shopped in the store it was easy to find help, whether getting my wood cut or looking for an item. All the employees, whether it be at the order desk or cash register were super friendly and helpful. I highly recommend that you do not buy an GE appliances from Home Depot. They have ridiculous policy regarding reporting damages and detective product (within 48 hours). Of course you can see physical damage immediately. However, you cannot detect a defective product within 48 hours, and even if you do trying to get a new appliance is impossible. To Whom It May Concern, I am writing because I received two damage and defective GE stoves, and I would like a new stove in perfect working condition and damage free. On October 26, 2022, I purchased the GE gas stove from Home Depot. My Home Depot order is H1955-231119. On November 12, 2022, the stove was delivered damaged. I called within 48 hours, and the store order me another stove. The stove was scheduled to arrive on November 25, 2022. On Friday, November 25, 2022, the second stove was delivered and it was defective. The burners on the left side of the stove will not come on. I called within 48 business hours office was as and GE scheduled a repair appointment. The appointment was scheduled for November 30, 2022. Please note: I called GE on Sunday, November 27, 2022, but the office was close. On November 30, 2022, the GE repairman arrived and attempted to fix the stove. He changed out the igniter control board. This did not resolve the problem. He said, " it is probably the igniters. I do not have that part. I will have to order it". Then, he scheduled another appointment for December 12, 2022. By this time, I was throughly dissatisfied with the service and I requested a new stove. He stated, "he could not order me a stove new. He is the just repairman". Then, I placed a call to several different departments (the Home Depot delivery department, Customer Care, and GE Warranty). After several hours on the phone and speaking with many people in these departments (including the managers Monica and Nicole), I was finally told to contact the store (Home Depot). Frustrated with the run around on the phone, I drove to Home Depot and spoke with the Closing Manager Ray. After explaining my ordeal with the stove, he apologized and agreed that I should receive a new stove. However, he has to speak with the other manager and call back tomorrow. On December 1, 2022, I spoke with Manager Kim and I explained the situation. She stated that she will look into ordering me a new stove. On December 3, 2022, I called Home Depot to speak with Kim. Kim was not available so I spoke with Assistant Manager Christina. Ms Christina read the notes and said GE has denied my request for a new stove. This is totally unacceptable and unfair business practices. Failure to send me a new stove goes against Home Depot's return policy and GE return policy which is listed at https://www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/large-appliance-returns.htm . My issues was reported within Home Depot guidelines (within 48 hours) and it was definitely reported within GE guidelines (within 7 days of delivery to my home and 30 days). Recently I ordered a dishwasher, dryer, and washing machine from here as well as delivery and installation. The problems began when my order didn't go through and I had to call the call center to re-order, and was quoted a different - more expensive price. But the biggest headache began after installation. The dishwasher was not centered in the cabinet and when I turned on my disposal it made a terrible rattling sound. Nothing was inside the disposal so I called home depot to ask them to come out and center the dishwasher and check on the disposal as it had never been a problem before the installation. Home Depot told me to call Spirit Delivery, who does the actual install. Spirit has terrible customer service and after an hour I finally got to the claims department who said a claims representative would call me back withing 48-72 hours. Two days later a claims rep called and said they would send someone out to look at the problem, and fix the disposal and dishwasher. Spirit could not confirm delivery time (gave me a six hour window) but promised I would be last on the list so I did not have to take another day off work. So of course spirit showed up at the beginning of the window while I was at work, forcing me to reschedule the repair again. Then when the finally came to repair the dishwasher and disposal they told me they could not do anything with the disposal - but that the claims department would call back within 24 hours. It is now almost two weeks since the disposal was broken to begin with. I went to Menards yesterday and bought a new disposal - Home Depot needs to be held responsible for their delivery service. One extra star is for the one person that did tell me which aisle to find something in, but I had to track her down. Nothing like the other Home Depot I go to by my house. My visit was a bit after 8 p.m., and I would think there would be some staff around, for instance at least one real cashier. I have no problem with self check for items that can fit into a bag and will gladly use them, however I was buying a 5'x8' rug that was rolled up, not the easiest thing to put on to that little scanner thing. It also kept setting of the machine, saying something like item out of bagging area as I was trying to scan my other stuff. I guess there's some magic sensor or something that goes off if you cross over the scanner distance. So the employee manning the self checkouts had to keep coming over to reset the thing. Me- can't you just ring me up. Her - oh no can't. Me- Have you done away with real cashiers? Her- no she's on break Me- WTH, you don't have anyone to cover, this is Home Depot after all. I know businesses are cutting back, and places like Home Depot have been hit hard, people aren't fixing things up or doing reno projects. However, one cashier should be on at all times. Due to my musculature, people often mistake me for a former college linebacker turned carpenter, but I really couldn't hammer a nail through a marshmallow. Thus, I don't use Home Depot the way many other large and sexy men do. In fact, last winter, when I was assembling an enclosure for my son's mouthy little hamster, I learned how screws and bolts differed and why you need nuts and washers. In other words, I'm no expert. But one thing I can say is that this particular Home Depot has a great selection of native Illinois plants, shrubs, and flowers. Every time I've gone there to find something, they've had it. Today, for instance, I purchased some shastas for my back yard. I had been to several gardening centers which did not have them, but Home Depot did. I am happy to report that when one of the cashiers saw my son and I wandering aimlessly, she hustled over to us to help us find the shastas. I appreciated it. I am always surprised, given the strength of its gardening section, how weak the birdfeeding section is. I can't blame this particular store, of course, but I wish they had better birdfeeders and birdseed. Menards, in this respect, is much better. The parking lot is a little chaotic, given the Target and Portillo's. So if you are with your kids, be careful. If you have cyborgs (and I wish I did; all my friggin' kids do is ask for video games and rides to school and sustenance, both physical and spiritual), you can probably just rebuild them, so the parking lot should be less of a concern. Personally, I think having robot overlords would be a good thing. Like with them Google cars and stuff. The future is cool because it's not here yet but we know it will be, and when it is, we'll meet it with open arms. I love my country. read more

I ran into Richard in aisle 8 and he will single handedly be the reason I will be able to complete this project. He spent well over an hour with me, making sure I had every detail covered. As someone with very limited building experience, he was patient, made sure everything would work with the tools I had at home, cut all of the wooden planks for me, was also making sure he was finding me the best deals and was incredibly nice and personable in the process. I have been going to this Home Depot for years and it's customer service has slowly declined to an all time low. Today, my faith has been restored. Today we went to go purchase door locks, however, we were not sure which type to purchase. Made our way to the doors customer service area where 2 older men were sitting alone, I asked for some help explaining that I didn't know which one to purchase. The employees said "Those are down 10, and to the left." They had no intention of helping us. We continued to wander the aisle aimlessly until we were approached by a young man with a southern dialect, and long hair. Not only was he spot on with his selections and suggestions, but his honesty and enjoyment he had for his job, as well as his dedication to get us "aaaaalllll set" as he put it, had us almost in tears. The interaction with this gentleman brought me back to my old days you could get help from real craftsmen who had passion for their jobs and knowledge that you couldn't find anywhere else. I asked the man his name once we made our decision, he replied "Rusty", he then walked us all the way to the register while talking about how he was from Alabama, how his family moved to Chicago, and the more we talked, the more confidence I had to continue shopping here in the future. Worst place to buy blinds for the house. If you order the blinds that comes in closed the box's. Please make sure you double check the size before you purchase them. They Re-glue the box's shut. Simply put, I hate that this Home Depot is so close to me. Since this is less than a mile from the house, I constantly need to run here in a pinch. The staff is friendly, but does not have a great knowledge of the store or products. I have used virtually every service at this location including special orders and truck rental and none has ever gone smoothly. I suggest you take a few moments and read my stories and formulate your own opinion. Episode 1. I rented a truck to take home the skid of concrete I purchased. The whole ordeal of renting a truck from these people is a nightmare. It took me approx 45 min to simply rent the truck and buy a skid of concrete. It took another 30 min of my rental time for the staff to figure out how to load the concrete on the truck just to realize it was over the weight capacity of the truck. The forklift driver simple stated (over the noise of the warning buzzer signaling overweight) that I would be fine. Let me also point out that I had to tell these guys as they were already starting to load, that they had grabbed the wrong skid of material. Unloaded the material at home by hand and returned the truck. I then recognized two frustrated people at the desk as having been there when I first arrived at the store to buy the material approx 1.5 hours prior. Episode 2. I checked online for a Simpson Strongtie Product which was displayed as "available at my local store." I went to this store to the area where these products are and could not find them. I requested the help of an assistant manager who also showed they were in stock. We then proceeded to walk back to the area that I had just scoured and I stood next to her as she stared at the products and then called other stores to see if they had any. "Well, I don't see them and no other stores have them" so she ordered some back to stock which may take up to 5 days to get to the store. 5 DAYS for a stock item. She asked if I wanted to pay now to which I replied, "I hope you understand my concern, but since you can't find what is supposedly here in the store, I will not pay until something is in my hands." She understood and gave me my special order ticket and told me I would be contacted. After no call in 5 days I called to check the status of these items. I was told that they had never been ordered since I did not pay in advance. I questioned why I would have to pay in advance for an order that replenishes a stock item (no rational answer). Asked for a manager and none could be found of course. I then called Lowes who had the product I needed for cheaper in stock. My project just took a seat for 5 days. Also, how does it make sense to have so many self checkouts and no cashiers at a place like this? You cannot scan lumber or materials on a self checkout and that is about 50% of what people come here for. Be careful not to get in an accident in the parking lot. read more

I have been at this Home Depot well over 100 times. 99 of those times were an "adventure" but finally I encountered a clerk who was helpful and friendly and even knowledgeable. He was the Tile Guy. He helped choose the tile and grout and accompanying pieces. Since installed, he was spot on. I was genuinely surprised at his willingness to help because in the past 10-years I would swear they recruit their employees from either a mental institution or a methadone clinic. They have been unilaterally lazy and uninspired. But, it seems things might be changing for the better. I think a store is only as good as your people because if the people are terrible you won't get to the product, unless you can ignore them and do your own shopping. But that is fine for someone who knows what they are doing. What about the novices? They would be like lost puppies there. Next ... there were so many carts in the lot I thought it was an obstacle course. And don't close the aisle I am shopping in so you can play on the forklift. They put up barriers on each end of the aisle and stand there and wait for you to get out of their way. From now on I will just take even more time. I just get tired of the "clerks" (don't know what else to refer to them as) who stand around with one another and either chit chat, sing, dance (yes, dance), or walk around with a blank look on their faces. The other day I was looking for something specific and the guy was sitting on the floor, perhaps rearranging. I approached him and he didn't acknowledge me. I showed him the part and he said, "Aisle nine." What would have been nicer if he got off his rear and walked me over there because, of course, I couldn't find the part where it was supposed to be. Do you think it had anything to do with Mr. Sitting on the Floor? Conversely, I was at the Home Depot in Countryside and I was so surprised when I asked about a part and the pleasant fellow said "Follow me" and walked over to exactly where the part was. I was so surprised that I wrote the President of Home Depot in Atlanta and his secretary actually contacted me. I told her the clerk was great, but the Oak Lawn store was dismal. Well, somebody must have gotten to the people at Oak Lawn because they do say hello to their guests about 50 times (Can get annoying but better than ignoring) and someone went out and hired a real tile man. That is the way the company was founded, but unfortunately went away from it. I say, take more time hiring people, just don't take any droopy pants goof off the street. In general I've found that the big box DIY hardware stores haven't been able to approach the level of customer service I used to find at neighborhood True Value or Ace Hardware stores. The trade off is larger stock and variety at places like this. I was able to get some nice garden plants on clearance sale here, but not without some unnecessary inconvenience. In and out is challenging the way they have their parking lot set up, there's an almost perpetual traffic jam at entrance/egress. If you pick up a couple of heavy potted plants, you'll have to struggle a big before you can find a cart. If you make the mistake of heading into the store without the cart, you'll get a work out walking to check out, and waiting in line. It's a fairly long wait to get a human being to check out, they seem to favor the self-service, which I'm never able to use quickly. They seem understaffed, they had a big banner indicating that they are hiring, the banner may have been up for a while. Nobody offered to help me the whole time I was there, it's really too big a place to go wandering if you've got a couple of heavy potted plants in your arms. The location is really good if you're visiting one of the two cemeteries, Evergreen or St. Mary's nearby. read more

The customer service sucks at this location. The only time they will ask if you need help is clearly when you found what you are looking for. If you need couple feet of chain cut forget it. They will speed past to avoid having to do any work. I just looked for help for over half hour. Finally I did the smart thing. Filled my cart with stuff then put it back in wrong spots all over store and then filled my cart to top with more junk and left it in isle. Needed help in the lighting department. Alfredo Salinas known as Junior in the store was a gem. He approached me as I'm sure he thought I needed help. Maybe it was the deer in head lights look I'm known to show on occasion! Anyway he helped me find plug in sconces, opened a box to make sure all parts were present, picked out the bulbs I would need, then helped me decide between two small tabletop lanterns. Once selected, he tested the batteries and then returned the one I didn't take to the right aisle. When asked if he regretted asking me if I needed help, he politely said not at all, it helps make my day go faster when I help customers. Turns out he was the supervisor in that department. Terrible customer service from this location for any specialized questions or orders. We have attempted to get a quote for a kitchen remodel in the past and this weekend tried to get an order placed for blinds. In both instances the store was not staffed for the extra time it takes to create special orders and the associates work so infrequently that you can be assured that the next time you need to check back with them it will be during normal business hours when you are not available. This weekend we got a quote for blinds where we asked the associate if we could call back to confirm/change the sizes and pay for the quote over the phone. Of course she says yes as this is the appropriate customer service response. When I called back on Sunday I was transferred multiple times after being told I had to come into the store and the person who transferred me did not tell me why the were transferring my call. After the last person I spoke to told me I would have to call back tomorrow I asked to speak to a manager who of course is able to make the changes I needed but said it would take awhile and would need to call me back. This is all after I have been on hold with the store for 30 minutes. My major frustration has to do with the poor customer service. In college I worked for Home Depot and this behavior would not have been tolerated. It is sad to see the lack of professionalism and dispassionate employees including managers. read more
