Home Depot at Cactus 16601 Cactus Rd., Surprise, AZ. Tuesday, August 11, approximately 8:40 pm... I had a very disappointing customer service experience at the Home Depot in Surprise this evening. I specifically asked a sales associate whether the store carried any blowers that were cordless/non-electric, because I did not want one that needed to be plugged into an electrical outlet. She told me no, that they only had electric blowers, but said that if they did have what I was looking for, it would be somewhere between aisles 4-8 and that I would need to access that area from the front of the store. While I was looking, I noticed another customer standing in front of a locked display of blowers. An associate came to unlock the rack for that customer, and I asked her whether those blowers were electric. She told me yes. After they walked away, however, I looked more closely and realized the blowers on that rack were actually battery-powered/cordless, which was exactly the type of product I had originally been asking about. I then had to find another associate to unlock the display again so I could look at them. That associate confirmed that they were battery-powered and showed me additional battery-operated models. She also told me that Home Depot carries gas-powered blowers as well. So despite being told that the store only carried electric blowers, I ultimately discovered that this location carried electric, battery-powered, AND gas-powered options. What disappointed me even more was the response when I explained what had happened. Instead of simply acknowledging that I had been given incorrect information, the associate said she didn't blame the first employee because she "probably" considered battery-powered to be electric. That misses the point. I was very clear that I was looking for a blower that did not need to be plugged in. More importantly, if an associate isn't sure what a customer means or doesn't know what products are available, it would be much more helpful to ask a clarifying question or find someone who knows the department rather than confidently giving incorrect information. I'm not writing this to get anyone in trouble. I'm writing it because I hope management at the Surprise location will use experiences like this as an opportunity for additional staff training. Customers rely on associates to help them navigate products they may not be familiar with, and a little more product knowledge, listening, and willingness to ask questions would have made this a completely different experience. read more

Checking out the new and definitely smaller Home Depot today. The lot is good size and easy to access from all directions. Inside is organized and a great selection of outdoor furniture, your usual Traeger's and such. We left with a few patio chairs and pellets for our smoker. Service was okay, but no one spoke to us until we went to self check out. There is still a lot of road construction around as well as in the nearby parking lot while they build the grocery store and gym so be cautious of your surroundings. read more

When I got it they had the order slip from company showing a charge of 61 bucks. As Home Depot stores go, this one is well-organized: major power tools are organized by brand, so -- for example -- you can find all of DeWalt power tools in one area (2+ aisles), etc. The employees are new blood, not jaded as they are in many stores. The store is clean, and they haven't clogged the walkways with cleaning supplies, sodas, etc. Downside: being new, everyone is flocking there. Inventory is sort of limited. Two of four items I went there for were gone by the time I got there after an hour's drive. read more

Return department needs some training on customer service. I returned a vacuum attachment because I purchased the wrong size. The return department has 4 stations for returns with a customer service sign on all of them. There was only 1 person working the returns and I waited almost 15 minutes before the cashier could help me. I explained that I purchased the wrong size and the cashier issued me a return receipt but never said a word to me. What happened to the good customer service we used to enjoy seems like we're doing these employees a favor by shopping in their store. I had a very upsetting experience at Home Depot that left me feeling completely taken advantage of. While checking out, an employee by the name of Paula came over to help us with our wood purchase. During the process, she got a splinter, and I even helped her take it out. Afterwards, Paula mentioned she could give us a discount and told us to enter our phone number. Naturally, I assumed she was helping us sign up for a rewards or loyalty program, she never said anything about a credit card. When I said I would enter my mom's phone number, Paula specifically told me not to and insisted that we needed to enter our own information. She made it sound like we were simply creating our own rewards account. It wasn't until later that we realized she had actually walked us through an application for a Home Depot credit card something she never once explained or asked permission for. To make matters worse, when the application asked how much we pay in rent each month, we told Paula the actual amount, and she told us to enter a lower number. That is completely unethical and unacceptable. We're younger customers, and we felt very misled and taken advantage of in this situation. It really feels like she was just trying to get us to apply because she might earn some kind of commission or incentive for getting new credit card sign-ups and that's incredibly disappointing. read more
