i was getting a hot dog at the hot dog stand. i had given my card to pay and then i saw a man struggling to put wood in his truck so i went to help him. i came back and the lady ran my card and put a 20% tip????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i asked her if she took a tip out with out asking. she said you can take money from the cash tip box? i asked her if she would like that if someone did that to her money? she then said it was nice of you to help that man. i then i said with irony, no good deed goes unpaid..... i am just putting a warning out to the punta gorda hot dog stand make sure they don't charge your card without asking!!! read more

DON'T BOTHER WITH CURBSIDE PICKUP! Ordered 3 pvc boards & one section of vinyl fence. Received a text that order ready for pickup. Upon going to store, parking in designated spot & checking in, waited 30 minutes with no results. Called store from inside my vehicle & was told "we're busy". Finally items were delivered to my spot. Kid threw them in my truck & left. I went to secure items & found fence section broken. Had to drag the section in to the service desk & complete a return. Waited & waited for a replacement piece of fence as many were broken. Finally on the way after over 1-1/2 hours. Should have just shopped myself and got it done...first time trying curbside pickup....lesson learned. read more

Very friendly and helpful employees ... however when my spouse came home with a receipt that included a $40 protection plan on a $20 item i was curious and asked why he bought the plan. He knew nothing about it - was never asked if he wanted to buy the plan (on an item that would have never have broken anyway). Be careful and check your receipts before leaving the store. HomeDepot for flooring is a nightmare. They provided a date for installation and when flooring was delivered we were told to call the installation contractor to get a date for them to begin. At purchase we were told October when we called we were told January at the earliest. The invoice stated between Sept and Dec at the latest . Due to the schedule of family coming we could not wait till January. The Punta Gorda store was not only nasty and unhelpful but had the nerve to charge us a restocking fee to cancel the order. They charged us $1000.00 to return their garbage flooring, Save yourself a lot of aggravation and don't buy from them. Employees don't care and the installation company is just as bad. read more

Typical Home Depot but OMG on the garden prices. A small citrus tree which will probably die of one of the billion parasites here is $39.00. In California they are about half that. I would have thought Florida prices would be a bit better than in California. The prices for their Plumeria were outrageous as well. Maybe things are just more expensive at Home Depot because it's Punta Gorda. I can't really offer an alternative store at this point but we have picked up off our neighbor's curbs one banana tree and a hibiscus for free. read more

Always go to get my building material here. The folks that work there are always friendly and helpful. Anytime I had to return a product for any reason to the store no problems. The staff has dog treats for my dog, she has all of them trained well. Once I cashed out at the selfserv and got 20 bucks out. I left the the store got down the road and forgot the money in the machine. So I go back just to see if I could find it. I went to the girl at the selfserv area and asked her "did you see a 20 in the machine?" She said maybe why? I told her my story and she said" What machine were you at?" No one took the time to actually help. No wonder prices at Home Depot are high; they have to pay for all those people to stand around. So my wife and I just moved in to a new home. As most married men will attest my "weekend with the guys" has now been replaced with checking boxes of a "Honey Do List" that my lovely wife gave me. Needless to say I have been spending a lot of time at the local hardware store. I typically don't write reviews on store like this, but the Home Depot on 41 in Punta Gorda has provided me service beyond expectation. The store is always staffed so it is easy to find help when you need it ( which hasn't always been my experience). What's more impressive is how knowledgeable and friendly everyone is. The inventory is well stocked and if something isn't available they will get it ordered from another store and have it for you within the next day. What really blew me away was I walked in to this store this evening and a guy (who I assume helped me in the past) remembered my name and what I bought previously - which was at least over two weeks ago. Good customer service like the folks over at this Home Depot provide goes unnoticed far to often. So I felt it only right to share my experience with the greater Yelp community. If your in the middle of a DYI or have some projects your working on around the house like me, give Home Depot on 41 in Punta Gorda a visit. read more

Sometimes you can go through there and not see an employee anywhere in the isles to get help. More often than not, when you do find an employee for help, they say "this is not my department" and they have no problem wasting your time looking over the same shelves that you paced for 15 minutes not finding what you need. Also, forget about using one of those flat bed carts through the store. They have obstructions everywhere! I don't think the management there pays one iota of attention to trying to navigate carts through the isles when all of them have other displays centered in the isles and on the edges of isles and it's sooooo frustrating trying to get around in that store. read more

Absolutely love the older staff here! They are always so friendly and OFFER help without having to ask. Other than a couple of the younger cashiers and what I found out to be one of the managers, which was a younger girl herself, literally were in a huddle talking and laughing while customers, including my husband and I, looked for an open register. An older man called us over to check out at his register and was extremely friendly! I expressed my appall at those younger adults (and I'm not even old myself) and their concern about themselves and their social time instead of their customers. read more

This is a really nice store with fair prices and a good selection. However, they simply have too many employees. They will 'hound' you from the time you walk through the door until the time you leave. Each one you pass will want to know 'how you're doing' and if you need assistance. If you pick up an item to inspect it, they will hover around you. If you decide to read a label, they will interrupt you, as if understanding written English is something only they are lucky enough to have mastered. I do have a few suggestions that will make your shopping experience less exasperating: 1. Walk briskly and avoid eye contact with employees. Never smile. 2. Pick up an item (preferably lightweight but easy to see) and carry it with you until you find what you're looking for. 3. If you can avoid a group of employees by taking a different route, do so. 4. If you see an item that interests you, try to curb your enthusiasm. 5. If you speak more than one language, DON'T speak English. 6. Don't make the mistake of thinking that the self-checkout means 'self'....it never does. Some employee will almost always want to show you how to use it. My advice to management would be to STOP HIRING PEOPLE!. Also, it would be a nice idea to have a bucket of bright orange stickers at the entrance. Place a sign telling people who don't want to be harassed, to put the sticker on their shirt in a prominent place......then, instruct your employees to leave these people alone! EDIT: I have continued to shop at this store very regularly. I truly believe that management took my review seriously because shopping there has become a far more enjoyable experience. I applaud their efforts to improve and I look forward to doing more business with them. I hope you will, as well. read more

Store no 6950 Punta Gorda Delivery date 9/12/2019 I just purchased a new oven from Home Depot and was quite dismayed at the installers. Both gentlemen made several attempts to try and take my old stove which was only about a year old and in perfect condition. We were only upgrading from builder grade appliances and we fully intend to sell the oven that was replaced. Do these installers not realize that we do know the value of these items? I am very aware that had I given them permission to take my old stove they would have either kept it for themselves or sold it on one of the many local websites? They had no work order to pick up my old stove and yet they seemed to pay more attention to it and trying to get me to say they could have it. I wish they would have paid as much attention to installing my new oven as they did to trying to get my old stove for free. I was very disappointed. read more

One of the great things about Home Depot, is that you can go through the store and find your own items and not have to worry about having to wait for help. What happens, though, when you have a question? Usually you have to guess due to the fact that you cannot find anyone that knows what they are talking about. One of the few perks of being located in a retirement community is that those same retired people get bored and decide to take on retail jobs to pass the time -- much to the chagrin of teens. This helps you and me since they usually gravitate to what they know or to areas that were similar to their past careers. Need electrical help and you will find you are talking to a retired electrician. Have a plumbing question and you will find you are talking to a plumber. Definitely a rare Home Depot. read more

This store is full of friendly people that are always willing to help you find the right item. If only reviewing on that basis they'd get 5 stars from me no question. We ordered basic style, el cheapo Hampton Bay brand cabinets (wall and sink base) first part of Nov. 2018 to complete a laundry room update. Walt told us to expect them around 12/10/18. I called the store a day or two after 12/10 to request a more accurate date. I was told that once we got the ship notice (in an email) to expect them in one week. On 12/14 we received the shipping advisory, leading us to believe we'd have them a week later on 12/21. Never got a call, email... We went into the store to the service desk face to face to find out where our cabinets were. They told us that because of the holiday, the shipping was delayed and the store was going to have them on 12/27 and that they would be open until 10 p.m. if we wanted to get them. Still nothing. Today is 12/29, I just called to see if they were there yet, STILL not been delivered... nobody seems to know what happened to the cabinets The lady helping me on the phone was nice, tried to call other people for help and did her best for us. We are considering contacting our bank to dispute the charges for this order that apparently was never fulfilled. The store CRs have relentlessly back-paddled and deflected on why this order has still not shown up -- We paid over a $ grand for something that they cannot deliver as promised multiple times. Special order or not, we understand wiggle room on delivery dates, but this has become ridiculous. After this experience, we definitely will NOT special order again from Home Depot. Not sure who is responsible for this problem, the vendor or HD. Update: Visited the store again on 12/31 to see if we could get more accurate information. Apparently the vendor shipped the items to the HD distribution warehouse, but they were never "scanned in." read more

I love this Home Depot! It is my favorite so far. The employees are all knowledgeable and friendly. The store is clean and organized. The items are reasonable and they have most of what I'm looking for, a good 98% of the time. If you're looking for something in Hardware the associates are awesome! Same with Garden. If you're looking for something in either department, you're sure to find it. The service department is great as well. They are friendly and willing to help, no matter what. The cashiers are great as well. They are always smiling and happy to greet customers. They always ask if I found everything I needed and if I didn't, they make sure to help and to get someone who is always willing to help me find that item. We decided to take on a Lanai floor refurb. We went into the Home Depot in Punta Gorda, FL. First of all, it is the friendliest Home Depot we have ever been in. Secondly, if you want to talk paint, look for Linda. She is very knowledgeable and guided us through all of the options. We ended up using the Behr Granite Grip which is a water base paint loaded with sand which is perfect for a deck Lanai. It filled all of the cracks and came out exactly as we had hoped. We had three "hurricane, low e" windows installed in our master bedroom which is on the east side of the house. No longer is the room 10 to 15 degrees warmer than the rest of the house. The installers did a very good job and we hope to do our entire house in the future with these same windows. Extremely satisfied. Pricey, yes, but in this case you definitely get what you pay for. Every now and tgen you get someone uninformed but they usually direct you to someone whos knows more. They have a wide selection of items and a crazy good selection of plants.
