So I shop here from time to time when I need things for the home. I've bought lots of odds and ends here over the years like dirt, mulch, bricks, appliances, housewares, light bulbs, fixtures and so on. It's a decent selection and I very much like their garden section during the warm months. They have a good selection of all seasonal decorations actually. I'm not a big fan of the corporate entity, ill say that, but this location does a good job handling the day to day stuff. I've never had an issue with staff not knowing something, they seem well trained. They have their local competitors, and I do think some other local spots are cheaper, but for some quick spring cleaning prep or a home project Home Depot is a reliable option. read more

Day 3 that I have been on the phone arguing with Home Depot about my refund that hasn't been initiated yet. Tuesday my appliance was cancelled due to the wrong address. They gave me no other options aside from canceling the order and sending it back to Maytag. They say they cannot initiate my refund until the appliance is received back at the Maytag warehouse. How is this my problem? I feel that Home Depot is practicing illegal processes here. I never got the dishwasher. Why should I have to wait for my money back? I saw that there were two sales going on for furnace filters and was told very condescendingly by an elderly sales associate that "it's not that difficult to understand." The first discount was "buy 2 get 2 free" and the second discount was "buy 4 get all products from that line "half off" (keep in mind, both of these discounts are separated by a "price tag" and an "advertisement tag" respectively.) As she read it, she then said, "yeah that price makes sense," then proceeded to not explain why it makes sense or why the other discount wasn't being applied. After arguing about it for about 2 minutes, I then purchased it despite being unsatisfied with the service and how they conveyed information because I realize that I should not be dealing with a person who doesn't understand basic sentence structure and refuses to read the tags laid out in front of them to understand why TWO separate advertisements saying different things YET meaning the same thing doesn't make sense. The worst part was, I wasn't even mad about the price, but the fact that the associate said "it makes sense" with no explanation (I gave an explanation as to why it doesn't make sense) and that really annoyed me. Regardless of my annoyance, if you don't know the answer as an associate, just ask someone in that department/sales no matter how wise you think you may be. read more

Customer service lacks what other Home Depots are happy to provide. I am doing a lot of projects this year, like most of us, and Home Depot has become my hardware store of choice. While I have had OK service here, I have found that the customer service at this location lacks what it is at other locations. And, I can only assume it is a management issue. To whom it may concern, I purchased 40 shingles and they only gave me 37, I told the guy that there were only 37 and that my order was 40 he kept insisting that there were 40 that he had counted them and it was fine which was not true, as I looked I noticed that some were damaged, I notified the guy telling him my customer will not approve of this And asked another Home Depot employee to help me. He went to get another lady that had an extremely bad attitude and was very rude, she got the damaged shingles out but did not give me a discount because I'm a company. Wish I could give negative stars. My husband and I purchased a brand new washer and dryer. It was delivered a week and a half ago and our issue is still not resolved. We paid for installation however they didn't install it. New person came to install it three days later and didn't run it to check it was working. We tried to run it and got error codes. Three days later they send another technician to tell us it's defective and they'll place the order for us. Guess what! They didn't place the order and now we have to wait for a Samsung tech to come tell us it's defective and place the order. I will NEVER purchase another appliance from Home Depot ever again. This is the most incompetent customer service I've ever experienced. It really cannot be that difficult to get a washer and dryer. This review is for home Depot delivery and installation. They use a company called XPO delivery and they left me a message that was garbled and the only thing that I heard was that they would approximately be here around 1:00 p.m. . I work nights and I took the day off on a Saturday, and woke up at 9:58 a.m. to use the bathroom check my phone and found out that they were there 45 minutes earlier and now they will not bring my appliances and install them. XPO is a horrible company and you should not buy any appliances from a home Depot that uses them for delivery and installation. read more

Visited the Home Depot in Round Lake, IL today. It's pretty clear leadership there doesn't give a damn about public safety. More than half of the staff were wearing masks incorrectly, some down as low as their chin; while talking to customers. We have a sump pump that failed less then a year old and need a new one now with the rain. We were told that the store manager would not come to the front desk to talk to us. The black lady who said she was the plumbing manager said the best thing for us to do was to buy yet another pump and take the issue up with the manufacturer. This review is not for the Home Depot itself, rather the company they use for their carpet install "Superior Installations". I purchased carpet through the Home Depot in Round Lake Beach, IL and they contracted Superior Installations to do the installation of the carpet. During the repair, one of the workers accidentally broke my TV (that was moved into a room that wasn't being worked on per their pre-install instructions). I understand that accidents happen, however not only did they deny this happening, the claims process has been a nightmare (including not even submitting the initial claim). Aside from the issue above, they left staples sticking upward on my carpet on my stairs that I discovered after my daughter stepped on it and cut her foot as well as scuffing my walls (which need to be repainted, not just buffed out) and even put a dent in the drywall of one of my walls. I would highly recommend avoiding Superior Installations as the install job was far from perfect, but if an issue arises, they will not take ownership of it, put you through the runaround and not follow-up to phone calls or emails. Reading all of the other reviews, clearly I am not alone. read more

The following was sent to Home Depot Corporate but I bought the Pergola at HD Round Lake. Good Day, I am reaching out to you because I'm really angry at your company and the "customer service" I've received.  Over a year ago, I purchased a pergola from the location on Rt 83 in Round Lake Beach, IL.  I haven't put it together for a few reasons, primarily we had to get the yard sorted.  We wanted the pergola to go over an outdoor kitchen/dining area.  The backyard was quite a mess and we still haven't got it sorted out, but I at least wanted to put the pergola up as it was in the garage for a year. I decided to get it done over the long July 4 weekend.  I open up the box and it looks as though I have everything, everything that is except the hardware.  I checked everything and even reread the instruction manual in case I was missing something.  Now that's just annoying, but it didn't make me furious like I am now. I call the number on the manual instead of bringing it back to the store as it says.  I spoke to the most horrendous woman.  She was so nasty.  She clearly was working from home and I interrupted her.  She said there was nothing she could do because "Home Depot doesn't sell pergolas anymore."  Now this was a stupid thing for her to say, but wait, I haven't gotten to the best part.  Clearly this person had no intention of helping to resolve this and raising my voice and getting angry wasn't going to work.  So I decided to dismiss the call and wait to give my feedback when she hung up.  She wouldn't hang up the phone and held on the phone for over an hour.  Yes, that happened. That was over a month ago.  I've been weighing whether or not to go and buy some screws.  Last week I thought, you spent a fortune on this thing and now you have to go buy the screws that were supposed to be in the box?  No.  That's just dumb.  So I decided to call again.  I must be a glutton for punishment. This woman was polite, but that's all I could give her.  Have you ever felt like you'd drifted into the Twilight Zone and you're just waiting to hear Rod Serling?  I told her I feel like I'm being punked.  After endless questions about my receipt, I asked her, what does this have to do with getting the missing screws?  Do you have random people calling asking for free pergola screws?  That sort of made her snap out of it, I suppose.  She then started spewing the same nonsense as the first moron, well we don't make this pergola anymore.  At least she specified my model instead of trying to convince me you don't sell pergolas anymore.  I stated, I don't know what that has to do with you providing me with the missing screws.  When I purchased the pergola, the screws were supposed to be included, they were not, therefore, you send me the appropriate screws for this product. "Well," she said, "I don't know if we can do that if we don't make it anymore."  Yeah, those are quote marks.  She said she had to call somebody and it would take about 20 minutes, could I hold?  No, I can't wait 20 minutes while you ask someone at home depot if they have any screws for me.  She stated that she would email me when she found out.  I never got that email.  I doubt she took it down correctly.  She did call me, which is why I say she was nice, incompetent, but nice, however I wouldn't have known she called if it hadn't been for my co-worker sending me the voicemail she left for him, not me.  Yeah. I hope this note makes you laugh a bit at the screwball comedy nonsense of this, but I don't want you to mistake me for anything other than incandescent. To go through this over missing screws is literally insane.  As I told the "customer service representative" I expect you to stand by the product you sold me.  I'm sure it was just a mistake at whatever factory and that's fine, but we're here now and I want the screws without further aggravation. Don't care about their customers! I've placed a tile order, after 10 days I've received an email saying that my order is cancelled. Interesting, right?! I had to call to the store to find out a reason and the reason was that the store has no longer this style of tile. Which is not a big deal. The deal is that no one cares about me as a customer! Why customer service couldn't give a call and let me know about the situation and help to resolve their problem!!! Instead of that they waste my time and lost a customer. GREAT JOB!!!!!!!! I remember the days when Home Depot started to become a fixture in many towns. At that time, I loved them. They were new and ginormus places to walk around and help create dreams come true. But, over the years they are no longer glittery and full of dreams. Rather, thanks in part to the staff, Home Depot has become tarnished. On many occasions when I need help I need to track down someone and when I do find someone, more often than not, I get the feeling that I'm interrupting their work, or worse yet, their personal conversation. One can learn a lot about Home Depot's managers and co-works by listening to the Home Deopt staff badmouth each other. I'm really surprised by this for in my book, this is a huge no-no in talking about internal matters while a customer is present. Now, don't get me wrong, there are some good employee's at Home Depot, but you'll need to find them thru a mass of malcontents. The garden centers have become a big disappointment too. Especially at this particular location. Whoever the manager is at this department needs to conduct some serious training, for I've not once found a staff member in this area knowledgable about the plants they have and I'm betting that the garden center is the place where they put new employees. Also, the care for the plants/flowers is very poor. Lucky I've found a few local nurseries which are able to fulfill my garden needs along with knowledgable staff to help me out with my questions. In my view, other departments such as appliances & tools can be better handled by other, small store chains or specialty places. If Home Depot is running a sale, I've found that many, if not all will beat Home Depot's price. Another item I can't stand with this particular location is that I'm always going over to the lumber/concrete area and back by the back large door, there is always a bunch of pallets they have there which get in the way. It almost never fails that when I need to get a particular length/type of wood, the workers have left pallets in the way. I no longer bother in asking for help and just leave. The one area which I am stuck with going to Home Depot is when I need lumber. Although in this area, they still do a good job in that there is generally a good selection of lumber, it's of good quality and only slightly more expensive then the local computers. In the end, in my view, what Home Depot needs is some serious Management Changes at the very top and the Department Stores themselves need to overhaul their quality control program. Quality Control use to be a very noticeable effort some time back, but for some reason it has gone to the wayside and has become very apparent. In the mean time, I would urge you to support your local, ma&pa type places where and when you can. They will be much more appreciative of your patronage. read more

This is going to be a little long but trust me, it will be well worth the read. The four star rating (I thought hard about giving it 3 stars) represents the store as a whole which is unfortunate for Carl, a manager at the store. If Carl's employees cared for the customer as much as he does, I'd give this store five stars. First off, this store is only one mile from my home so even if all of the employees were like the two I had to deal with at customer service, I'd still shop there anyway because it's close to my home. However, because of Carl, I will definitely shop there and will give the store an underserving high rating. Although, I will keep Carl in mind if I ever get treated like I did by the two unnamed customer service employees who not only took 45 minutes to NOT serve me but spoke to me very rudely. When I asked what was going on with my order that I was there to pick up, the guy said, don't know. When I asked if I need to come back the next day, he said, maybe. When I said I'm two minutes away from talking to the manager, he said, ok. At this point Carl walked by. I didn't know he was a manager when he asked me if I was being waited on when I simply responded, doubtful. Carl stopped in his tracks, spun around and walked up to the service desk to ask the two rude and unprofessional customer service employees why I wasn't being helped (I didn't mention to Carl they were rude and unhelpful) and it didn't take Carl long to not only get me help, he also gave me a completely unexpected and unnecessary, but very generous refund to make up for the long wait while receiving no help. Hats off to people who like their job like Carl that believe in good customer service. I thank Carl for being an example to workers that do a job that they obviously don't want to do. After posting this I did think of some other workers that do look to help customers so I wanted to mention that all in all there are some good employees there but it's a shame that they get overlooked because of the employees with poor customer service. read more

I had an issue with my Turo lawn mower today and was really frustrated. I called and asked for the store manager and Charlie came on the line. He listened intently to my store and about my frustration in having to load a gas and oil filled lawn mower in my SUV to return it. I asked about my options and Charlie instantly offered to have one of his employees come out to my house with a replacement mower of the same make and model....at no cost to me. That was awesome! He was so helpful and empathetic too. Then 15 minutes later John shows up at my house with a brand new lawn mower. He assembled it, filled it with fluids, cut a couple of lines of grass to make sure it worked fine left it with me. He also informed me of what could have been wrong with the other mower. John was great as well. Home Depot, thank you for hiring such a fantastic customer oriented manager like Charlie. He is unique these days. John's kind demeanor is also worth noting. I typically like going to Lowe's more than Home Depot for reasons I honestly cannot explain. When I went to buy some multi-meters for work, they only had 3. It took awhile to find somebody to help me but I finally found a guy named Chris. He looked up the store's inventory and it said there should be some on the top shelf. He proceeded to look up there and found none! After talking to some other people, Chris called another Home Depot and asked them to set them aside for me. If this was a review for the individual employee, I would give 5 stars. However while there is always a greeter to ask if I need help with anything, it is often hard to find somebody when I realize I do need help. Maybe I just go at the wrong time. read more

Home Depot. What can I say? Of the big box home improvement stores, Home Depot is kind of the premium brand. They have good lumber, nice plywood and every time I go into this place, at least one or two staff members asks me if they can help me. Sometimes, it's like four or five! The thing is, their quality is just a little better on average than a lot of home stores -- but you're going to pay a premium price for that. I've found that they can be up to 50% higher on specific items compared to other places. But then, it's sort of an apples-to-oranges comparison, isn't it? If its not really the same wood from the same supplier, it's not really the same item, is it? I have had times at other stores where finding a handful of decent two-by-fours out of the twisted, checked and knotty assortment of aspiring firewood they offered me was next to impossible. So, is it worth it to pay a little extra for dimensional lumber you could use for a straightedge? Depends on the project, I guess! Sometimes, Home Depot is the only place to go. They have the best price on fiberglass patch kits in the area. This place is worth checking out if you've got questions or want to discuss materials (knowledgeable and friendly staff), and seasonally they have a decent nursery with a lot of trees and shrubs. I have to say that HD is really on top of the service end of things. We hit this HD quite a few times lately and the people are always eager to help. I was greeted and asked if I needed help three times just on my way to the bathroom! On several occasions when we've just been walking through the parking lot people have greeted us as well. (I'm not joking.) The quality is pretty good here and I will say I usually think of HD as a higher end of goods than say Menards. We've gotten some decent tools here, some OK lumber and and some decent deals on them too. But now for the reason I'm writing this review. We were checking out through the self-checkout the other day and just happened to leave two Sharpie markers behind in a bag. They were barely noticeable but Erica saw them and called us back before we left so that we didn't forget them. Great save Erica! Most people aren't that observant. I wouldn't believe it if I wasn't there. I was literally yelled at by two managers in the middle of the store because they thought that it took my wife and I too long to unload the material that they were supposed to deliver in the first place. They didn't deliver, they rented us a truck so that we could do it ourselves, and then they charged us $200 for the truck that they rented to us free of charge. We ordered drywall online and the Round Lake, IL Home Depot was supposed to fulfill it. We ordered express delivery which is next day or the following and when we didn't get a delivery update we had to go to the store to find out why. No one even reached out to us. They advised that they had the order but it didn't have a date so they didn't know what to do with it. The online order was accepted without a delivery date which isn't supposed to be able to happen (we were advised that this was a glitch in the system). The store didn't reach out to us to advise that they didn't have a date, but instead we had to go there to find out what was going on. That is when we found out that because that they didn't know when to deliver it, they did nothing. Instead of providing a delivery, the store rented us a truck free of charge so that my 5'1" wife and I could unload 2 truck loads of drywall by ourselves. It took us Sunday and Monday to empty the drywall. The store started calling on Tuesday morning and by the time we got the truck to the Round Lake Home Depot, they had then decided that we would be charged for the truck. They charged $200 and when I protested I was yelled at in the middle of the store by, at least two managers saying that it was an unreasonable amount of time to unload the drywall that was supposed to be delivered. read more

Horrible customer service. I spent to much time trying to find an associate to assist me. Last night was not the first time either. After 7 minutes I found someone who while assisting another customer, I had asked if he could help me when finished. I asked him if he was the only one working there which he proceeded to grin as if he knew exactly what I meant. I wanted to speak to the manager and share my dissatisfaction to the level of customer service but I was not willing to wait any longer in the customer service desk line to speak to him. If it was not for the fact that this store is only 2 minutes from my house I would avoid it like the plague. Have been here multiple times for home improvement items. Flipped a house at one point, and we went to Ed J for EVERYTHING. He is SO helpful, SO honest, and such a funny, nice guy to boot. Brian in carpeting helped us as well; also an honest guy, super helpful. Went back tonight and actually HOPED Ed was working and lo and behold, he was! Not only is he helpful with personal experience on appliances, but he's knowledgeable on stats too. Bought an LG dishwasher from him tonight. So long as Ed's there, that's where we will go to buy our home improvement items. Thank you, Ed!!!! **EDIT** - the dishwasher was delivered rather uneventfully. I took a glancing look at it, signed the papers and it sat in my living room until my husband came home to install it. Fast forward to the install, he was able to do so with ease, closed it up, and off he went to a coworkers birthday. After I loaded the dishwasher, I took out some stainless steel cleanser and wiped it down to clean off fingerprints and there was a DENT in the door!! I was so mad! My husband called LG to which they replied they don't deal with dents, and deferred to Home Depot. Went in to talk with Ed, and he eased our minds, telling us we will have a new dishwasher the following week. I went in trying to find "cheap" trim/wood to do batten board in the bathroom. Being a former employee of HD I knew where to go, went to the isle and asked an associate what the cheapest trim I could use. He said go ask an associate who works in the dept....ok so I went i the milwork desk and asked the salesman what would would be the cheapest and showed him a picture of what I was trying to accomplish. He didn't bother to even get up, all he said was try isle 24 and 15.....thanks I was just there, I was trying to find what wood would be the most cost efficient.
