After reviewing other vendors for an exterior entrance door replacement we visited the Home Depot om Barrington RD in Schaumburg. We met Larry at the Door section of the store and he showed us multiple door choices that matched our needs and scheduled a visit by the installer to determine the necessary millwork that would be needed to complete the work. The installer determined the materials and necessary labor so Larry could provide a quote for the total job. As this was in November weather was an issue with being able to work. I needed a work permit from Hoffman Estates and after a few inquiries with Larry talking with the permit department I secured the permit and the work was scheduled. The install took 2 workers for several hours to remove and install the new door and it was very cold and dark but they had lights to help. We couldnt believe it was finished before the major snow storm just in time. Great job by Larry on following all the details and answering the questions to secure the permit plus the installers working late in the dark and cold to finish the job. Looks great and we are extremely pleased with the Home Depot level of service and attention. All future home needs with be with Home Depot. A nightmare from start to finish. We purchased a dishwasher. Turns out the door was extremely difficult to open and close. When my husband called the number to call with any problems he was told the door was defective and the machine needed to be replaced. OK. Fast forward to the next week. The crew came to include the installer. Although my husband turned off the main water supply he specifically told the installer to turn the water supply off under the sink because there could be accumulated water in the line. The installer said no need to do that and did it his way. At that point water started to gush out and we both were scrambling to grab bath towels to clean up the mess. In addition, they scratched the tile on the floor when pushing the refrigerator back in. The next day my husband noticed that the kick plate was crooked. He went to straighten it out and realized that only one side was screwed in. That prompted him to take a flash light and look underneath. Turns out the grounding wire was not connected. I hope people understand how serious that is plus none of the wires were taped. Also, the metal junction box to cover the wires was missing. My husband went to the store and talked to a manager. We then received a call that a different person would come the following week to correct the electrical issue and to bring a junction box. He also confirmed the delivery date and a reminder to bring the junction box with their BOT. The following week the THIRD crew came to our house. The grounding wire issue was corrected and the wires were taped. Now, where is the metal junction box? The drivers don't have it. One showed me the info that the warehouse receives directly from the store. It did NOT include the instructions to bring the junction box. My husband then went to the store and was given one. He then came home and completed the final steps of the dishwasher installation. We have purchased all of the appliances in our home from Home Depot. Our last two came with delivery/installation issues. This will be the last time that we purchase any appliances from Home Depot. read more

Shame that I live down the street and this monstrosity of a home depot sucks...they no longer care about the average customer, you are literally just another quick sell to them...they totally botched my 25k deck design, the entire process was agonizing...from their 3rd party rude truck drivers (items were never on time, often damaged, and inaccurate) and they thought i was lying (twice) about missing merchandise when refusing a delivery...if you go to the PRO DESK, good luck, they simply don't have time for you. Response time to voice messages and emails took week, managers impossible to get a hold of...bottom line, home depot has become such a monopoly in the hardware industry game, that they have forgotten what they build their morals on, CUSTOMER SERVICE. We ordered custom order blinds 4k in total. Paid the $50 measure fee. Was promised that our order would meet our deadline. We triple checked as we wanted to use Home Depot due to the blind selection . Once the order was processed that's when the run around started. We were passed from the flooring specialist Saundra to a "follow up phone call" from Hector who never called. After multiple calls on OUR end I was given SM Bill Abeds ext 100 who's customer service is a clear reflection of his team, POOR - NO WORLD CLASS SERVICE- was given as promised. After SM Bill Abed rudely brushed me off he had ASM Patrick call me. They both didn't try to save the order or make our experience a better one so we cancelled our 4K special order. I own a business and I expect my team to great clients with respect and appreciation as clients choose where they shop with their hard earned money and I personally train my team that word of mouth is worth more than paid advertising. Big box or mom n pop customer service should be a priority with follow up and more follow up with any delays and when wrong make the customer happy. This is the second time I went to pick up a cabinet at Home Depot and received no assistance. The cabinet was located on the floor, not on a cart. Thew employee dragged the container across the cement floor. I had to hunt down a cart, then loaded the cabinet by myself. I can't even begin to express how unsatisfactory my last visit was. I understand every place is a little short on staff right now but that doesn't mean you can just hire teenage morons that are not only unhelpful but also unkind. I understand it's a big store and when I ask for assistance it's often not their position that I should be asking but giving me a "bro I don't know" for a response isn't acceptable. The employees especially in the front should be able to point me in the direction of whoever I need to speak to instead of giving terrible answers. We purchased and had new doors installed through Home Depot. Shortly after installation, the patio door was not working properly and was under warranty. Home Depot was not helpful and after a lot of back and forth, someone finally came out to look at the door. They gave us a new piece, we tried to explain that piece not the problem. The new piece did not solve the problem and the door is still not working properly to this day. We recently went through Home Depot for a new washer and dryer. The washer is showing an error code. Home Depot had said if there was a problem with it they would replace it if contacted within 48 hrs. We contacted them in less that 24hrs and they said they would send someone out on Monday. After 48 hours Home Depot called back and canceled the service. We will no longer be giving Home Depot our business. read more

I love this Home Depot. Not only is it conveniently located, but their staff is more than helpful. I can not walk from one end of the store to the other without at least 5 people offering their assistance. Their staff will help you find anything you need, go get you a flatbed if needed and are some of the friendliest people ever. I want to give a shout out to Catey who helped us out a number of times on Black Friday 2012. She has a great attitude and really made me feel like we could ask her for help with anything and she would be willing to help. Return got lost in their system and no one from the management knew where it is as "the system" is operated out of state. Store review: My feels about home depot are mixed just like these reviews, yes they often have better prices off the bat and the easy return policy is nice to return items you find that are defective or you thought would work with your home repair project but ended up not using or not the right part. The major issue at these stores is the employees not being helpful. A lot of them are standing around conversing rather than helping out customers. Often you have to hunt them down to find anyone. They have a wide selection of tools and hardware items so it really can be your one stop shop. I have visited this location due to giftcards I have been given. Employees are not wearing masks. I was there last week and 7 employees weren't wearing masks. Showed the manager whose comment was "that's crazy." Health inspector was there a day later informing them that they had to comply and speaking with me while meeting with Traci the assistant manager. I was back again today with one employee not wearing a mask, standing a foot away from a customer, and coughing. Another wearing around his neck and saying the masks don't do anything anyway. Spoke with that same assistant manager today and she refused to take my complaint, refused to even let me tell her which employees are responsible, said the health inspector told her they did not have to enforce this for their employees. I asked how this could be since it is a state order and they have signs on the door enforcing this for customers. She then told me to leave the store. Home Depot customer service hotline was rude; first girl told me she would follow up with this and said goodbye, she was unable to tell me how she would do so when I pointed out that she hadn't taken any of my information or the store information. The next two basically told me that HD would not enforce it, would not follow up with me, but they "documented it." I know that there are still people who think this isn't a big deal; I work at the hospital and I promise you that people are still getting very sick and dying daily. This store needs to train or retrain their associates. Was there for curbside pickup and the app said there was an issue so I called the store but they didn't answer. I went to the store still on my phone watching as they repeatedly putting my call on hold. When I asked why they didn't answer my call they said they were busy and being on hold for a few seconds wasn't a matter of concern. I Told them that I was on hold for over 8 min. Years ago I purchased a Hinckley Springs 5 gallon water at Home Depot. Paid my $6.00 deposit and whenever I ran out went back and exchanged bottles for full one. Now my wife and I are moving out of state, to a state that does not have Hinckley Springs. I went to Home depot to get my $6.00 back and was told they do not return deposits. I had to contact Hinckley Springs even though they took my $6.00 deposit at the store. This is B S and the worst policy. Do not buy Hinckley Springs or shop at Home Depot. One of my friends and I have started taking the Do-It-Herself classes with Laura offered by Home Depot. We have had nothing but a positive experience. Laura helps guide us though how to use the tools, along with teaching us how to perform touch ups on our projects at home. I usually work with power tools only with my husband and these classes help give me the confidence I needed to perform more projects on my own. We have been fortunate enough to work on gardening projects and they have made such a welcome addition to my home. Updated: I am so disappointed with this location. My 13 year old daughter (whose money is as green as anyone else's is!!) had the dimensions for a shelf she needed to build. She asked one guy for help, and he said someone would be there in five minutes or less. Nobody came. Finally she flagged down a different man (15 minutes later) and this man was rude, condescending, and abandoned her to spot someone else in the middle of her question. He said he would be right back, and 20 minutes later, he didn't come back to help her. It's NOT that he was still busy, as he walked right by her aisle, saw her still standing there, and kept walking. If I can avoid heading into this particular Home Depot again, I will. On a Sunday morning, this place was filled with employees ranging from mildly friendly and helpful to downright snarky. And while I like a fair amount of snarky humor, I don't appreciate it from a complete stranger who is supposed to help me or point me in the right direction. Yes, this HD has all the items you'd expect, organized in typical fashion. But the thing is, it shouldn't be a huge ask to have someone direct you to a specific brand of ant killer, or smoke alarms. Normally I have a perma-smile on my face thanking people at Home Depot for their help or stating that we're just fine, we know what we're looking for. Not this past weekend. I signed up for a few classes via the Net and attended my tiling class this afternoon. Boy, did I feel like a geek when I showed up and there was nobody else but me. Jared, the "teacher" and flooring staffer, even suggested I can learn online. But I'm a visual person, SHOW ME LIVE! The way these classes are set up is there's a makeshift table set up at whatever subject the class is about. In my case, we were at the flooring dept. The class, consisting of me, the only nerd it seems to actually show up, was concise and Jared couldn't be more accomodating of my incessant questions. After 30 minutes, I left feeling confident I can tackle future projects. read more

Jason is a licensed plumber. We can find most things for the side jobs he's hired to do BUT... The reality is, it lacks supplying items to accomodate older homes. I'm talking about the condos and townhomes surrounding this location. For example, Home Depot does not carry the particular cartridge to replace the one in my Dad's shower and the one in his neighbor's bathroom. I'm guessing it's the same for everyong who lives in Maribel and Knollwood. We were forced to drive out to the Loews on Algonquin in Rolling Meadows for them. That is the good thing about Loews; it's unfortunate the one across the street was forced to close its doors. The prices at Home Depot are also higher than its competition. What is not sold at Home Depot, you will most likely find at Loews. I think the parking lot is a mess. It's too big for the space; it has too many islands dividing it in a way that doesn' t make any sense, creating a maze to get around and a challenge to get out! The lot is too big for the lacking strip mall. Between Zippy's, Blockbuster and the Loews across the street closing, the area is starting to look ghetto. We need retailers to open shops and fill in the empty spaces. read more

How would anyone know that the kitchen department closes earlier than the rest of the store? Literally makes zero sense since there's no way of knowing this until you get in the store. The installers were friendly. The process was easy. The floor measurement was totally miscalculated and there was a lot of wasted material in which I obviously paid for. The floor had tacks sticking out of the floor at entryway and I have guests who have bleeding feet because of it. There is also a noticeable seem running accross the middle of my room. I called to speak to a manager and she was on vacation and still has not returned my call. read more
