Ace Hardware may be part of a chain, but this location is definitely your neighborhood hardware store. Tucked away near Walgreens, Len's Ace Hardware can be easy to overlook. Once you step inside, it's a typical Ace Hardware -- paint, tools, garden supplies, hardware, and other assorted home improvement items... in addition to very friendly employees. They're helpful too -- when they know where things are. And even if they don't know, they try with a smile, so you can't really be annoyed with them. The one thing that does annoy me? The prices. Many items are priced higher than Lowe's or Home Depot. Since this is individually owned, it doesn't really surprise me. However, I'm OK with it when I consider that most big chain tool stores don't offer the personal service found here. Occasionally, they've got a popcorn maker with free, fresh popcorn for customers. Super salty, but so good. Craving an old fashioned soda? You can find different brands of old-fashioned root beers and creme sodas here, too (for sale, of course). I actually swung by this afternoon and left with a couple paint tools, root beer, and popcorn. On the way out, a couple cashiers struck up a conversation with us. Fabulous !!! What a gem! Forget Home Depot, Lowe's, or any other home store. This is it! Especially Len's!!!! Apart from having everything you need for your repairs, projects and fixer uppers they hands down have the best staff. Their customer service is above and beyond. I would think that they have a lot of repeat customers, and they should. Ravi & Josh we're so helpful. In fact, they were more than helpful. Not only did they take the time to listen to me explain what I needed, but they genuinely cared that I was using and buying the right stuff. They offered recommendations and/or suggestions for items they didn't have, all while checking their system and calling other locations for my parts. And even though one of the stores wasn't a Len's, they found an Ace nearer to me than Addison (which is where I knew the part was that I needed but didn't want to drive to during rush hour and sleeting rain). That my yelping friends is customer service. I've been to several Len's locations and every time I am helped fast and efficiently. It's nice to know they are consistent with their customer service and they are all trained well. It also proves their staff truly enjoy their jobs and love the company they work for. I learned tonight that one of Len's goals for the company is to be the community's go-to hardware store. They offer competitive prices and if you don't see it in the store they will do everything they can to get it for you. I so hope they reach that goal. If they keep up the good work and their loyal hardworking staff then there is no reason why they won't! If you are wondering if you should go here...do it. I promise they will have what you need. Learned a lesson about purchasing grills from Ace Hardware. I bought a Big Green Egg for my sweetie for Christmas last year. It was finally delivered on March 18th 2017. Will not even talk about the defective stand it came with (warped boards). The Fire ring broke on 7/7/17. Its under warranty so a replacement was ordered. Frequent follow ups and still no replacement as of 9/17. Rant number 1: I will never purchase another product from Big Green Egg. Rant number 2: I will never purchase anything from Ace Hardware again that exceeds the price of a light bulb. read more

Once again, Len's Ace validated why I keep going there. I bought paint there in the past. Have purchased from Licht as well. But I go to Len's most of the time. Usually buy Ben Moore paint. It's been very good over the years. Last year I painted our front door using the Ace Kensington because they have hi gloss sheen. It's been very good. I needed to do another door for my son and brought in a paint sample to be matched. The young man at the counter assured me he knew how to use the match equipment and proceeded. When he was finished the paint didn't appear a perfect match but he said it would dry lighter. I didn't believe he was right but I went along with him. The next day I painted some cardboard with both paints and the new paint was darker. I recall that when he took a paint sample to match he rushed through it. The paint wasn't dry so the new paint came out dark. I took the paint and cardboard example in and showed it to one of the other guys. He rematched a new can and it came out perfect. Happy customer. One note, the Kensington paint is on the thick side which I don't are for. read more

There's been good trips to Len's and terrible trips to Len's- consistency is not Len's strong suit. Their one consistent strength is the staff. When you are able to speak with one directly, they always try to be helpful. Unfortunately, they usually don't have the specific item/part I need. They ARE more than willing to special order that piece in but I'm an instant gratification type person- on to the next store! Additionally, I am kind of irritated with their ad campaign. Everyone in the neighborhood gets tons of coupons from this hardware shop. It's always 20% off or greater. After pushing them off for a period of time, my husband and I were eager to cash in all these 'great' coupons! To our disappointment, almost everything in this store is "on sale" and in the fine-print on the coupon the discount does not apply to sale items... OF COURSE! I still shop here... since it's local. BUT I don't even bother bringing my coupons or even saving them anymore. read more

Was there yesterday for over 40 minutes to purchase 2 gallons of paint and 1 qt of a mixed color. Took 10 minutes to get someone to help us - then told they didn't have the one standard color. I asked can you call your other location to see if they have it? (Not sure why he didn't ask if that would be ok) Then after several minutes of talking to other location clerk realizes he can mix the standard color. Then we ask for the specialty color and clerk just presumed the finish I want .... if I had not paid attention to what he was doing I would've received a satin finish. I thought the whole idea of buying local and from small business is they have the help and the expertise compared to the big box stores. We drove past a big box store to shop here .... So for 1 gallon of paint, 1 gallon of plain white paint and 1 qt. paint, 1 brush & 1 can spray paint - it was over $100. I'm certain had we gone to the big box it would've been less $ and time. read more

I live in Addison, where we have a Len's Ace Hardware. I'm also in Roselle/Schaumburg area 3-4 times a week. Nothing wrong with the Addison store, but when you shop Len's Ace in Roselle, you are greeted with a sincere "Welcome to Len's" which is pretty rare considering these are young kids greeting you as you walk in. They are so pleasant, you just want to shop. Again, nothing against any of Len's stores, but the Roselle store in my opinion is the friendliest! read more

Turns out, Ace IS the place with the helpful hardware man ! Stopped by my local Ace today with a problem that needed fixing; my pull-down, cut-to-fit, room-darkening blind which I spent a good $40 on at another all-in-one type huge home/hardware/garden store (Menards) was broken. 2 problems; 1. the end they cut to fit was weakened by the cut and the one end wouldn't stay in right, 2. the brackets they sold me to hang it were made of nothing stronger than the tin foil I use in the kitchen. Fortunately for me, Steve works at my Ace Hardware store in town. Turns out to be my lucky day because Steve's mom used to make these types of blinds from cloths and he would service and install them. Because he was so experienced he helped me fix problem #1 without having to buy anything at all, and problem 2. with a much sturdier bracket. To make things even better he offered some advice on how to keep this over-sized (71.5") custom blind from wearing out before it's time! Thank you Steve and thank you Ace Hardware. Problem solved. Total cost $2.13 ! And P.S. Boo on Menards for not mentioning that the 71" blind was over-sized and may bow in the middle, double boo for selling me crappy hardware ! read more

I generally don't like shopping local. It never works out for me. I went in about a month ago looking for help with a lawn mower battery. I left my John Deere battery at their service counter and I kind of expected the dude to help me pick the right one. That didn't happen. I then waited in line for 10 minutes to check out because apparently speed in checkout is not enforced in any capacity. The battery was manufactured 4/2012. This was 4/2014. That battery was 2 years old, but it was all they had. I get home and it barely started my tractor after a lot of cranking. Then that stopped working. I took the battery back. I lost my receipt. I was informed that they could look up the receipt with my credit card. When I offered them the card, they said they could look up the receipt. So I put it right under the cashier's nose "Here is my card." And I was informed that they could look up the receipt. I didn't know if I should throw a fit and demand a higher up or if I should just sit down and cry. Crying seemed helpful. The assface manager came back and informed me that he had only sold 2 of those in the last year and neither one was me. They have no record of the transaction. How charming. I will work that out with my bank because Wintrust seems to have a record of the transaction, but the merchant doesn't. I left the stupid worthless battery at the stupid worthless store, went to Autozone and got one that was manufactured in 5/2014, the current month at the time of writing. I will not be returning to Ace. read more

Len's Ace in ROSELLE is the best, I have been in Roselle for 25 years now and I consider this to be one of my regular stops, its a block from the house so I am in the "old section" when houses were built to last so now and then upgrades and repairs are needed. they usually have what I am looking for , and i'm pretty handy so ill do my own repairs if I can. So my dead bolt that I got when I moved in stopped working. it was a schlage brand I got 25 years of service out of it time to replace it right... so I went to Len's Ace in Roselle, looked at what they had replacement dead bolt double keyed 50 bucks and the helpful hardware man CHRIS H. (FIRE they call him) says I can service the cylinders for 12.50 each one. I said you can do that? CHRIS said yep i'll do it while you wait , you think anyone at lowes or home depot going to do that NOPE. He saved me $25 bucks right back in my wallet THANKS FIRE.. CHRIS H. And another repair I had to make was my MOEN faucet was leaking. also purchased when I moved in 25 years ago at Len's in Roselle so I found the cartridge I needed and wasn't sure which was leaking hot or cold so at 35.00 bucks each I did consider a whole new faucet. But the helpful hardware women ANN ,said if you go on line they will send you FREE replacement parts!! So she saved me $ 70 bucks right back in my wallet !!! I will never shop here again. I live very close to this store an used to shop here often. During the evenings and weekends the registers are staffed with gossiping teenagers who seem not to understand that customers dont want to hear about their lives. I could look past that though and continued to shop here since it was so conveniently located. I recently ordered an item online to ship to store. When i got the email telling me my package had arrived, i called this store just to make sure it was in. I was transferred several times and was ultimately told that they were too busy to check. When i said i would call back the woman on the phone pretty much told me not to bother as there is no way they could have my package based on when i ordered and their truck schedules and they wont get another truck for a few days. Interestingly enough i received a call the very next morning telling me they had my package. I guess it was magic. The icing on the cake for me was when i went into the store last night for a sale item. I could not find what i needed and asked the register associate for help. She found the product and i proceeded to check out at which point the item wasn't coming up on sale. She asked for manager assistance. He came to the register and stated that, although the ad shows this EXACT product on sale, it was a different sku # and therefore wasnt in sale. If this manager had the slightest customer service skills he would have given me the sale price. But even after i protested he told me that he cant lose the money at which point i told him he was losing a customer and i left my other items on the counter and left. I will NEVER come back here again and will tell everyone i know about my horrible experiences her. DONT SHOP HERE. read more

Watch it at check out, my father is a senior and obviously should have received the senior's 10% discount ESPECIALLY when he requested it from the cashier. Instead the cashier applied a $15 off weekly sales coupon resulting in my father paying overpaying by $45. Everything was regular price and no items were except - just no excuse - not a customer orientated place of business. I don't like saying this but it did seem that the cashier was coached in this practice? Just be mindful and careful or shop at a customer orientated store. read more

Couple times I needed something right away they had it. The people are very friendly and greet you. Never once did they fail to offer me help when I got in the store looking confused. I went in to have a key cut, they cut it wrong and it would not work all the way, then went back and they tried to fix it few more times and finally ruined the key, it stopped working completely. Then, they blamed the key blank for the problem because.......I did not buy the blank there, LOL. They refused to replace the key they ruined and were trying to sell one of their overpriced keys instead. Then they got mad and basically told me to leave and not come back there again, because I demanded they replace the ruined blank. They are incompetent and arrogant, especially the old guy, easily frustrated, should not work in customer service, has bad attitude. AVOID THIS PLACE, seriously. Just go anywhere but there. Let this place go bust, because they really deserve it. They will ruin your keys and make you buy one of their own. The nice reviews must be employees/family/friends, the place is way overpriced and employees not very competent. read more
