They have a great selection of quality tools and accessories, but when I bought the equipment to steam bend wood for my project, they could have told me that the kiln dried wood that I bought would not work. It's hard to source air dried wood, but if you sell a steam bending kit you should expect to not be sold the wrong material for it. Steaming for twice the recommended time did not work. read more

As a woodworking novice, I took several classes. I learned a lot and it made me more confident and safe in my own "shop." I am comfortable returning to ask questions (from any of the customer service folks), whether or not I am purchasing an item. Love that the store is always neat and tidy. read more

I was treated like a stupid woman by three men that worked there. They didn't know the product well, unfortunately the man who helped me last time just stood there and watched. Actually I felt like I was being ganged up on. It was the Dead Flat interaction gentleman if you'd like to comment back. You should know how you make a "person" feel. Nice store with a great selection of tools and wood. I knew what I wanted, so I didn't really need help. I grabbed my big box and carried it to the register. Let me say this, it doesn't take much for someone to greet you and be nice. I dropped a good chunk of money, not that it should matter, and received a grouchy "is that it" from the big guy behind the register. I don't "need" to buy from a brick and mortar store. Customer service and good human interaction are what bring people to a physical location. I'll go back and try one more time. If it's a bad experience, then I'll just order and ship it. I walked into the store none of the employees even tried to make eye contact with me after I was in the store for over than 25 minutes. The very old guy tried his hardest to avoid me. Bald heavy set guy did the same. There was a younger employee who I finally approached was annoyed that I had a question about a product in stock and even Smart remark like i should have known what aisle it should have been in. I have never had an issue with anything I have bought from Rockler, both in store and on line... and I have a lot of blue colored stuff in my garage/work shop. However, I recently ordered the Rockler Taper Jig for ~$100. My homemade jig was just too inaccurate. It came heavily damaged and busted. Plenty of pics. It was shipped in the store packaging with a UPS SurePost label affixed, not in a shipping box with protection or anything. I tried to call Rockler 800#, but was on hold for well over 30 min. Called the local store to maybe get some help, but was I surprised. His comments were rude to say the least and he certainly wasn't interested in helping me, whether I was a good customer or not. He didn't take the time to find out my details. Basically he said not my problem and I can't /won't help you. I asked to speak to the mgr. He said he was the mgr and to file a claim with the shipper and hung up. I called UPS.... not their problem either.... called USPS, still waiting on a call back. What a joke! Fine, I'll deal with it. This manager really needs some customer service skills. I know he could have helped and kept a good customer happy. No more blue stuff for me. if you like wood you will love rockler. they are tops in selection both their own in house products as well as premium products form other vendors they are tops in customer service both on line and in store.....I had two minor issues in the one year I have been shopping with them and frequenting their store and website and both issues were settles quickly and satisfactorily. They don't hem and haw. If the customer is right then they make it right When you go to the store they are very helpful without being intrusive. they offer a lot of classes at a fee as well as seminars for free on a weekly basis almost and these are well advertised and promoted. They have a good catalogue and good website that is of service to all members ( memberships consist of merely enrolling with your e mail address... All the employees are knowledgeble woodworkers themselves and that is a big plus read more

As a handyman; this is a go-to place for a number of items. Especially things that the big-box hardware store may not carry. This is one of the places that the good, high-end carpenters, and wood working hobby guys shop at. When I first entered the store, I was greeted with a obnoxiously loud carving machine that ran for almost 15 minutes. It made talking nearly impossible without having to shout. I was told by my girlfriend that a couple people behind me asked if I needed help, which I clearly couldn't hear. Overall, they have a pretty good selection of wood, especially the smaller cuts that I needed for the type of projects that I work on. There's an extensive tool selection, but they didn't have what I needed. Normally, that's fine, but my experience with the store employee was not. When I tried getting help to find a smaller, tapered dovetail saw, this grouchy, cantankerous looking dude picked out an expensive Japanese backsaw and said "this is what I use". Well, great, but that's not what I asked for. He then just walked away since I wasn't worth his time apparently. While I don't consider myself an expert woodworker by any means, there seemed to be a bit of a pretentious aura that didn't welcome amateurs. I felt like I was in a guitar store. I'd probably go back *just* for wood, but that's about it. It's these types of experiences that push me to just order from Amazon. read more

The Schaumburg Rockler store is a treasure ! Diane, the store manager, is very knowledgable, and helpful, as is their staff. As a retired carpenter, I used to think of Rockler as a yuppy wood working store. I was WRONG ! The pricing is very much in line with the big box stoors, for a much higher quality product. I have consistantly found the specialty tools, hardware, product demonstrations, and knowledgable staff, at the Schaumburg Rockler, that I simply can not find at my local Home Depot, Menards, and Lowes. ( And believe me I like my local Menards !) Just last week I was looking for a router bit at the H D.After a frustrating few minutes it dawned on me.....why the h### don't I just go to Rockler ! FAO Schwartz for the woodworker. They have seminars here every Saturday morning given by the staff who are a helpful assortment of old splinter pullers. I had just purchased a 60 year old vintage table saw, & never used anything better than a $200 vibrating aluminum model. The saw was a steal on e-bay, but I spent almost 3 times the cost running a 220 line out to the garage. Meanwhile back at the ranch... I asked the guy what he'd recommend for a good quality (maybe I shouldn't have used the word good?) general purpose saw blade & he walked me past the closeout bin & over to the entry level $70 saw blades. $70 for a saw blade when you can buy a saw w/ a blade for just over $100??? Her majesty says "don't be stupid (cheap) you have a nice saw, get a good blade". I pulled out the 20% coupon, that comes with their incesssssant fliers. I took.the blade home, scraped, sanded & siliconed the table top & put a piece of notebook paper (white oak) through it. Now I wonder what the $100 saw blades cut like. They have good sales, but they sometimes only last a week. They are the next exit after Ikea (Schaumburg) so I wish't they would have fewer sales & make them last longer. It's not uncommon to receive a flier in the mail for a sale that ended last week, but I should probably give that credit to my negative four star letter carrier. read more
