This is my second time purchasing a gun safe from Home-depot. The delivery was unpleasant with one guy having a poor attitude about bringing the safe into the entry way which I paid extra for. Once delivered the safe was still left bolted to the pallet the one mover said they do not do that which ok but defeats the purpose of paying extra to bring it into my home. Once we unpacked the safe we noticed a sizable dent and paint peeling on the front so we called to have it picked up and refunded. I called Home Depot customer service and was told I had to contact the manufacturer directly as they don't do returns themselves. So I called the manufacturer directly and was told that Home Depot has to do the return. So I called Home Depot again and they said they can pick up the safe and refund the money. We received the case number and was informed that it would be picked up today from 10am-2pm and no one showed. I called Home Depot a little after 2pm and informed them no one showed to pick up the safe and was offered a $100 refund to keep the damaged safe which costs me $1,500 and some change. I said no obviously. I was put on hold for about 20 minutes and then the the call either disconnected or Home Depot ended the call after giving the gentleman my information I didn't receive a call back or anything This is my third attempt now to get the safe properly removed from my home and refunded. If I could give ZERO stars I would I have been dealing with this for 5 days now and the incompetence is mind blowing. It appears that Home Depot doesn't care about any customer service whatsoever and whoever they use for deliveries is a joke. Sorry for the long winded explanation but I will not be shopping at Home Depot ever again anyone reading this highly advise going to Lowe's at-least there any issues I had were resolved in a professional and timely fashion. read more

Went to home depot this afternoon with my wife for flowers for our exterior of our home. The selection of available flowers, vegetables, shrubs, and trees was impressive. We were looking for shade flowers, finding the selection overwhelming we asked for assistance. A young woman in gardening named Emily (big shot out to her) offered to assist us. Emily, stayed with us the entire time (30 or more minutes) making sure we purchased everything we needed. What Emily didn't know she would run and ask her manager. I hope Home Depot realizes what a great employee Emily is. read more

We purchased a new dishwasher from Home Depot and paid for it to be installed. When the installers were done they instructed us to run the machine empty for the first time and then they left. During that very first use that was started before they left my home the dishwasher started leaking water underneath my sink and all over my kitchen floor. I'm now told that it will 4 days before they can send someone out to look at it. In the meantime water continues to leak onto my hardwood floors. When my husband called at 4pm he was told that someone would be at our house within 30-45 minutes. 4 hours later they have no record of this call. This dishwasher was not cheap and we paid extra for the installation. Very disappointing customer service. read more

Went here today to get some stairway handrails. There was an employee putting boards away, blocking the handrails with a giant cart. Didn't offer to move the cart when he saw. I was clearly looking at the stuff that was blocked. He had earbuds in his ears. First I tried to make casual conversation, second I asked if I was in his way, third I asked if I could move his cart. No response just humming music to himself making no eye contact and would walk away and come back every minute or so to see if I was gone. Just poor. This location has gotten a lot better from the days of the night shift yahoos, yelling and screaming and horsing around, but it still has a long way to go. I think I'd rather drive to Geneva than deal with this location anymore. read more

I rented a 16' Penske truck today, and I was provided a truck with bad brakes and a ramp handle that was broken, making it very difficult to slide out and push back in. Manager Javy and his coworker Quinn did nothing to resolve the matter. Quinn said it slid out and back in fine, he did it the other day. When I asked him to please go demonstrate for me, his Manager Javy said he wouldn't authorize it, 'as I seemed agitated' Usually this store is very customer friendly. I'll never go there again. It's Menards and Lowe's from now on. The continued lack of customer service or finding a resolution doesn't exist here. They might also want to fix their complete lack of parking lot lights. read more

Have jumped thru all their hoops twice for one timeframe submission. Now they say i need 2 start all over again. Hoping I don't still have receipts and copies of submissions. Which i do. They lie, cheat and steal from their customers. Don't believe them. After spending over $10,000.00 on my home depot card for a recent remodel I regret doing business with this company because of its ethics. As I was browsing the hot water tanks, I noticed Home Depot's same day installation program. Immediately I went to Customer Service to request this. The representatives told me it was past their deadline of noon. I looked at my watch and said it was 12:03pm. They confirmed it was that time and said if I wanted to I could call. My only reply was "never mind". I am all for rules and deadlines but their attitude, lack of support, and total disregard for the customer disappointed me. I made the mistake of ordering a new door 4/26/21. It was scheduled to be installed 9/8/21 with a 2 hr. arrival between 8 and 10. No call, no show! Made numerous phone calls only to find that it came in the wrong color! It had to be reordered and was scheduled for installation on 12/13/21. I received a call from Mark on the 12th cancelling my installation because the entire crew called in sick! (allegedly) I should have learned after my horrendous window install. My scheduled appointment was cancelled so the crew could take care of a more important customer. When they finally installed the window they put their knee through the window ledge. That was on 7/15/21 and Home Depot has still not sent anyone to repair it! Try one of their competitors for installations, they can't be much worse. read more

My husband used to shop at Menard's all the time but after having two bad experiences there, he decided to go to Home Depot. Home Depot is actually closer to us then Menard's but he's just so used to going to Menard's. He consistently received excellent customer service. No matter how big or small our purchase was, if we needed help, he was able to get the same level of help every time. One evening he did not get a lot of sleep but had to go to pick up a part to finish installing a vanity. He got help frm an employee, they were very patient and knowledgeable. He was so impressed with Home Depot's customer service that he called and spoke with the manager and told them how much he appreciated it. I just read the bad review about ppl being bribed. We're just reg customers that so far had really positive experiences at Home Depot. We've shopped there over a dozen times before writing this review. If anything changes, I will write an update but 5 stars for now. read more

I had an issue with an outdoor rug that is shredding g to pieces that I bought last year. I called Home Depot and they will NOT allow me to return the rug back to them. They advised that I must talk and deal direct with the manufacturer of the rug!!!! I never had an issue with any of my purchases before but this has left a very sour taste. read more

home depot replaced my neighbors fence but left my fence hanging. They could of offered to attach my fence with another post and I would of happily paid for it. The fencing along the subdivision was basically a community fence, therefore posts were not at each property line. I get it but please contact me to make this right. read more

Just moved and rented our Penske truck through the South Elgin location. Great experience- people were very friendly throughout the store- every person asked if I needed help- and the greeter pointed me in the right direction from the first moment. Truck was in great shape, rented online first, and the pick up and drop off were painless! Highly recommend for an easy move! read more

Recuperating from a broken ankle I have had to rely on delivery services. I ordered a few items from Home Depot in Elgin to be delivered to my home, which has outside access even though it's an apartment complex. I specifically put instructions that it should be delivered outside of my door. I received notice that the delivery was made and yet there was nothing there. Contacting the store I am told that they delivered it to the basement. This would cause me to go up and down multiple sets of stairs to get the item and as I stated I'm recovering from an injury that prevents that. I was also told that they use a third-party delivery service and they are not required to deliver inside. I tried to explain that it's not inside but the customer service person was not at all interested. I was also told that they don't have the instructions that you put on the order for the delivery because they are third-party delivery, so what's the point in asking me for instructions? Customer service could not even forward me to a manager. All in all my experience with the Elgin Home Depot has been completely negative and I don't even have my items because they are in a place that I cannot get to, and also out in the open where they probably been stolen by now. I normally don't use this location even though it's the closest to my apartment, and going forward I will never use that location again nor would I ever recommend it to anyone. The delivery service was bad. The customer service was bad. You can't even talk to a manager, not that he would've done anything to help. The only chance you have of getting your delivery from the store is to hopefully reside in a single unit dwelling, and have no injuries preventing you from getting your order when they hide it like an Easter egg somewhere around the property. read more

Reading some of the other reviews on this page makes me wonder who is paying the bribes. There is never anyone around when you need someone at this location, and when you do walk all the way back to the front desk, you're treated as if you were burdening the clerk by asking them to do their job. The selection falls short of local competitors as well, and the stocked product is in poor condition. I tried to purchase flooring, only to find that all of the boxes must have been left overs from someone else project (open, re taped, and thrown in the general direction of the shelf). So if you're not a contractor who knows exactly what you're looking for, shop else where. read more

Absolutely the WORST customer service I have experienced at any Home Depot - and possibly any store - bar none. I have been a loyal Home Depot customer for well over 20 years, rehabbing several homes in both Illinois and South Carolina, including special orders, and using their installers for various projects, but that has ended with this experience. We ordered a new front door on 3/19 - the lead time was 3-4 weeks for install; today is 7/15 and not only do we still not have the door, but no one can tell us when it is coming. It has come damaged THREE separate times - it is on the fourth order. For all three of the previous times it was delivered, not only did we have to call to find out it was in because no one called us (in some cases for a week) but that no one had inspected it until we called. For two instances, the damage was found when they inspected at the store AFTER our call, meaning in each case we lost another week of reorder time; for the third instance, the installer actually picked it up and brought it to our homes and when he opened it, he noticed the trim was the wrong color. So not only was our time wasted, but his as well. As recently as June 27th, we called for a status as the door was to be "expedited" to arrive by 6/24. It was not in (again), but she promised to be the new "point of contact" that we would receive "lots of communication" from her - SHE NEVER CALLED AGAIN. We have gone as far as going to the store and getting the regional manager contact information that they post at the service desk if there are any problems. We have sent two emails on 7/9 and 7/10 - no response from the Regional or District Manager either. In fact, not so so much as a simple acknowledgement response like "got your message and looking into it" response. Nothing. On top of all this, because it is a special order, it had to be paid for with the order. So I have a $3800 charge that I have been making monthly payments on since April and no door - I'm out over $600 of payments on this too. read more

Faith deserves employee of the month! My husband and I locked ourselves out of the house after snapping our key in half. A Locksmith was our last option because of the time and cost it would have taken. We decided to stop in Home Depot instead. There stood Faith! Not only was Faith friendly and nice, she was very helpful and took the time and effort to fix the key. It took time and patience to get it welded enough to stay together in the machine. Her associate Bill was also very kind and helpful. All and all it was a great experience and we appreciated the effort and care from these associates. Thumbs up! read more

Home Depot tends to have a more deeper stock than Lowes does. However, their stores seem a little bit more chaotic as well, given the amount of stuff they do have. Their arrangement of where things are is getting better over time. Went here for 4 things this time...gutter attachment for water trough, mulch, topsoil, and some garage tool hangers. Didn't have the hangers I wanted which are made in Schaumburg right up the road. But they had the rest. Had one person come up and ask if I needed help. The cashier also asked if I needed help with the mulch and topsoil out at my truck. Either they're getting better personnel or I'm getting older and look like i need help. read more

This Home Depot rocks! I needed some gift cards on Christmas Eve. I tried a nearby store which was crowded and disorganized. The employees could not help me and gave conflicting advice. I then went to Home Depot which had all kinds of gift cards neatly located in one place. I was in and out in under 5 minutes. Stopped in here the other day and had a question in the plumbing department. There was two gentlemen that work there in the aisle. I Begin to ask them what glue would work with gray PVC. They replied what would you be using it for, I thought this was kind of strange because I already told them it was for gray PVC. They seem to have this fascination that they need to know everything about your project, they even asked me at one point if I had a permit for the job that I was working on. As I showed them a picture of the plumbing pipe in question they advised me that I should not even be working on that project and as they walked away one told the other one what's wrong with this picture. This was really uncomfortable and creepy. I tried to talk to them a little bit more but it just seemed really uncomfortable and in the end of this I never got the answer for the glue. Home Depot You need to teach your employees not to overstep their boundaries they are there to give advice for materials you sell. And one more thing to the man that was working in the plumbing department that thought he was all that and a bag of chips if you're so great at plumbing, what the hell are you doing working at Home Depot! I spend a lot of money in general being a contractor in the area. I will not give this store one dime. I gave two stars even though it should've been more like one. I'm one of those guys that will go to either Lowes or Home Depot, which ever is more convenient (sometimes Menards if I need something cheap or if I need quality Lumber). And from now on, if they are equally as convenient, I will definitely choose Home Depot in South Elgin. Last month I had a plumbing emergency where I needed a new pipe. It was 10 minutes before the store closed and I was 15 minutes away. I rushed over there and on my way called to see if they would stay open another 5 minutes for me. Burt from the store took my call, agreed to wait around, was waiting for me at the door, and kept one register open so I could get the part I needed. My husband and I have had several projects done at the home and Home Depot is the closest store to us. Since my husband sends me to purchase things, I made several trips here. The employees helped me a great deal by finding everything I needed. The layout and where everything is placed can be confusing since I don't walk around the store much. There have been times where I could not find anyone to help me in the aisles so I would have to go up front for service but once I did find help the service was great! Shout out to Home Depot. I know this is cheesy and sounds like the script from the commercial, but Home Depot is making my dreams possible. Mostly thanks to an employee, Gary. See, my husband said he isn't going to help me do all my little Pinterest, DIY, home decor projects anymore. I was on my own. I went to Home Depot with my little set of instructions from the Internet. Gary helped me figure out what I needed, and even told me a better way to do some things. He even figured out a way to make it cheaper, cut all my pipes for me, and even assembled it. What took him 10 minutes to help me would have taken me hours. No more menards for me. I'm sold. Throughout the store, I had awesome customer service. They were so friendly and helpful and went out of their way to help me.
