This location special-ordered filters for my elderly HVAC unit - couldn't find them even on amazon nor big box stores.

A nightmare from start to finish…read more We purchased a dishwasher. Turns out the door was extremely difficult to open and close. When my husband called the number to call with any problems he was told the door was defective and the machine needed to be replaced. OK. Fast forward to the next week. The crew came to include the installer. Although my husband turned off the main water supply he specifically told the installer to turn the water supply off under the sink because there could be accumulated water in the line. The installer said no need to do that and did it his way. At that point water started to gush out and we both were scrambling to grab bath towels to clean up the mess. In addition, they scratched the tile on the floor when pushing the refrigerator back in. The next day my husband noticed that the kick plate was crooked. He went to straighten it out and realized that only one side was screwed in. That prompted him to take a flash light and look underneath. Turns out the grounding wire was not connected. I hope people understand how serious that is plus none of the wires were taped. Also, the metal junction box to cover the wires was missing. My husband went to the store and talked to a manager. We then received a call that a different person would come the following week to correct the electrical issue and to bring a junction box. He also confirmed the delivery date and a reminder to bring the junction box with their BOT. The following week the THIRD crew came to our house. The grounding wire issue was corrected and the wires were taped. Now, where is the metal junction box? The drivers don't have it. One showed me the info that the warehouse receives directly from the store. It did NOT include the instructions to bring the junction box. My husband then went to the store and was given one. He then came home and completed the final steps of the dishwasher installation. We have purchased all of the appliances in our home from Home Depot. Our last two came with delivery/installation issues. This will be the last time that we purchase any appliances from Home Depot.

Shame that I live down the street and this monstrosity of a home depot sucks...they no longer care…read moreabout the average customer, you are literally just another quick sell to them...they totally botched my 25k deck design, the entire process was agonizing...from their 3rd party rude truck drivers (items were never on time, often damaged, and inaccurate) and they thought i was lying (twice) about missing merchandise when refusing a delivery...if you go to the PRO DESK, good luck, they simply don't have time for you. Response time to voice messages and emails took week, managers impossible to get a hold of...bottom line, home depot has become such a monopoly in the hardware industry game, that they have forgotten what they build their morals on, CUSTOMER SERVICE. I will never use them for a project again, they are only good for convenience shopping. See you at LOWE'S!

I called first to see if they had them, and the young girl was so helpful on the phone. She even told me right where to look for them as I enter the store. That same friendly, helpful young lady was working the cash register. It took less than 1/2 hour from the time I made the call until my grandson hit the slopes. Sure it sounds routine and not worth a review, but it served as an another reminder for me of the extra value of going to an independent Ace Hardware store, rather than the major chains. I had ran in to a Walmart store along the way. Although I very rarely frequent them, I figured a big store like that would have a sled. They did not, and they sure weren't sorry they couldn't help me. What a difference! I googled "sleds near me" when I was in the Bloomingdale area, and this store popped up. Who knew a hardware store would be the place to buy a sled? Nice sized clean store, wonderful people, in stock, affordable. Nothing against the big hardware chains, but I'll be thinking Ace first on my next purchases.

Frankly, this surprised me. Menards was a very important name early in my adulthood where free moments were occupied doing various things related to home improvement, and every weekend meant at least one trip to Menards. You accepted the observation that service and quality was better at other places, but the prices couldn't be beat and you had to weigh how long the product had to last. And for things that needed to be changed out (batteries, light bulbs), buying it at Menards was a no-brainer. Also, I worked in Wisconsin, and many co-workers would tell unpleasant stories about friends who worked at HQ and the main DC in Eau Claire. So this is the view that I lived with. This time my BIL wanted to go to Menards initially, so that's where we started. I ended up going back by myself multiple times because of my experience (and will probably go back again while in Chicago). There were multiple times when I couldn't find what I was looking for (I had time so didn't mind wandering a bit), or had to do something different (purchase toilets that would be later picked up by our contractor)...and each time, when I asked someone in that giant warehouse, they would direct me to the right place, call someone over to help, or walk me to the place that had it if I had gotten lucky and asked the right department. Every person was pleasant and didn't appear to be in a hurry (which greatly helps a customer not feel bad about interrupting). Some things don't change though...this week, they have their 11% rebate on everything sale...20 years ago, I remember coordinating getting the right rebate form, sending the right receipt with it, actually mailing it in, and then forgetting about it, until a postcard came later with a credit to spend at Menards. They are notorious for this...the other box retailers have made rebates more automatic and digital, Menards continues to use postal mail, mainly so a larger percentage of people just drop out...plus it is a store credit, so it encourages to shop more in the future. And of course, because they are so big, they have the opportunity to purchase things not related to home improvement in bulk at certain times, and pass the savings on to their customer. They have groceries (not great prices), but you will also find baked goods, and frozen shrimp for really low prices. You just can't depend on it always being available.
