Dear Hook&Plow, after a long three days of visiting my parents in Palm Springs I was ready for something other than my mother. Don't get me wrong, I love my mother... but wow, that was a lot. As soon as I landed at RDM my mind obviously went straight to getting home for some sweet romance but first I needed some fuel for the fire. I heard about a sexy new restaurant called Hook&Plow and I was sold from the name and the two smoking hot twins that owned the place. Can you say, seeing double and sleeping triple? Ok, let's talk about the food and me (daddy). I started with a Reposado old fashioned and a glass of their finest Pinto Noir because daddy likes to party. If you haven't had a Tequila old fashioned then I recommend you get your mouth ready for a little treat. After browsing the menu for a sexy second I looked up into one of the twins eyes; I was lovestruck, but not only that, they were telling me about the specials they had on the menu. I didn't hear a word they said but I agreed on everything. I was lost in those beautiful green eyes. I was pleasantly surprised with the smoked trout dip, seafood chowder, black garlic arancini and the Whole Thai snapper, daddy was hungry. The sexy Twins nailed the order because the trout dip was superb and the sea food chowder has to be the best in Bend, if not the world. Daddy wasn't finished yet, the black garlic aranchini was insanely delicious and last but not least, the star of the show was the Thai snapper. This beautifully cooked fish over a perfectly spiced bed of rice is what the gods are made of. Say no more. Food was decent but not as good as I would have hoped. Bread not good too hard/over toasted and boring flavor. I would prefer a fresh bread feel unless you are serving toasted bread with something. The salad (pear and burrata and arugula) was delicious and I wanted to ask for the dressing recipe. The jerk chicken tasty with crispy skin but wouldn't recognize as jerk spice. The mango salsa not good I kicked it off to the side. The halibut was over salted but cooked well and the forbidden rice was tasty but pretty sure tons of butter so I held back eating too much of that. There were 5 of us. The waitress (didn't get name but wasn't Lisa or Lauren) didn't, at any time, ask what we wanted to drink. She did serve water but that was it. Ordered food. Food was great. But again, waitress didn't ask about dessert. I had to initiate request. And then, it took forever for dessert to show up - one person in our party actually got up to inquire about it. The bread pudding was blah and dried out. The pear something or other was very good. Our waitress disappeared and a young man took over. This place seems to be an undiscovered treasure. Had lunch here twice in the last month--amazing steak sandwich and arugula salad for less than most food carts charge. Recently enjoyed a lovely dinner with a friend--shared peach buratta salad and two tasty entrees (halibut and New York steak). Service was exceptional too. Restaurant has improved since last time I was there but I still have to give it 3 stars . They have put in shades to block the parking lot lights and sun from being a negative factor. I found the food to be unappetizing in presentation. They utilized the old fashion food stacking technique. A big pile of food! My lamb was a small portion of meat covered with miscast onions! More fat then meat. I would describe it as sheep rather then lamb. It was very unappealing The polenta was tiresome ! Other people were served salmon and halibut. All overcooked . We came here for the happy hour specials on a Tuesday. The food was quite good. We liked the concept of sourcing fresh local ingredients. Happy hour prices were reasonable. We started with the seafood chowder ($7), fish tacos ($6), seared scallops ($17), smothered fries ($10), oysters ($9), pear and burrata salad ($16) and a dinner burger ($22). All were good. Service was excellent. Our waiter, Bradon was very friendly. Hook and Plow had a nice, relaxing atmosphere. read more

It's okay. I gave 3 stars for the service since they were down staff. Our bartender/waiter was wonderful and doing double duty that night. Food wasn't anything memorable. The lamb is Very fatty so its hard to chew. The halibut was pretty dry and should have come with a sauce. I wouldn't go back but do hope it does well. read more

Our server was very polite and attentive but unfortunately the food was terrible. Steak frites was ordered medium rare and came out so well done it couldn't be cut with the provided knife. They did remake it and the second version was closer to medium rare. Our other dish was equally disappointing. The corn beef in the hash was like chewing on a rubber boot and over half the pieces had no meat, just incredibly chewy and slimy fat. To charge $30 per dish and then to serve such poorly cooked food is inexcusable. Again, our server was great, it was the food that was terrible. We won't be back. read more

Our family chose The Hook & Plow Bend for a birthday celebration on Christmas Eve as we had not had the opportunity to dine here since they opened. The restaurant has an interesting vibe; it has a modern industrial kind of look, but prices lean towards fine dining. There is little to help with sound dampening so it got quite loud. The service was very good and attentive. Drinks were good but not great. Overall food was very good, there were some stand-out items like the fresh bread, bruschetta, and the braised lamb shank (best dish of the night by far), and other dishes were just okay. Price is definitely on the high side ($14 for 2 pieces of bruschetta IMHO is crazy...but it was delicious). Nothing special offered at all for the birthday person. Our dinner entrees were solid. The actual food was 4/5 stars however the waitress was forgetful, uninterested in customer service and forgot to put in one entree completely. So unfortunately one member of our party waited 25 minutes for a salmon salad, while everyone ate. What made it worse was her indifference to the situation. A California chain in a building straight out of California? Certainly wasn't going in with high expectations and was prepared to be annoyed by everything that is ruining Bend. That said, food and service was great. Be back for sure. At some point I'll just have to get over our little town has become Bendifornia. Will take some work. Hands down the best seafood chowder I've ever had. The ahi poke? Incredible. Steak was par excellence and (fortunately or unfortunately) the IPAs kept coming. My bartender, Cody, was exceedingly friendly and attentive. Bend desperately needs this kind of restaurant in this part of town. Perfect date spot or place to celebrate a birthday or anniversary. Four of us were there for a late lunch I'm new to Bend coming from the Palm Springs area...this restaurant was beautifully unusual...menu rather sophisticated and a pleasure to eat. Fries...divine I had the salmon salad and felt it was excellent. It's always nice when there is Flavor! Quality of food was HORRIBLE, cold, scant portions. Seared salmon was cooked thoroughly, not seared. Seemed like it had been sitting in a warmer for hours. Scallops served cold. Told server, they were taken back and returned micro-waved. I'm getting irritated writing this. Everything was AWFUL! What a waste of money for what we set out to have a special dinner. O ya! After getting my hair done and a massage (awesome options in this plex to visit) i decide to try this place again. I wasn't super wowed the 1st time, but I have to say it has made an improvement. The clam chowder both times were the best we've had in town. The burger was disappointing, but the falafel & salads are really good. Amazing. I wish yelp let you do shorter reviews. We're fairly discerning and LOVED everything we had. I got the rosemary aviation to start and it was delicious. The bread and butter is a must get. The mezze platter was some of the best I've had in town and the fresh fish of the day was out of this world. The chef managed to make cod that was light, buttery, flaky, rich and crisp all at the same time. We look forward to coming again. read more
