I avoid gluten and industrial cedar was. She was able to convey to the chef our dietary restrictions and our food came out perfectly. We ordered the chicken chunks, grilled without oil and substituted fries/chips for a salad up charge. Our salad was hardy and fulfilling. Atmosphere was also perfect. Not too loud, but just right. Popped in for a quick pub lunch on the road. An unassuming building but boy is it a divey sports bar inside. Lots of screens for watching games and lots of darkness for losing track of time. We sat at the bar an ordered off the lunch menu. I opted for a patty melt and my husband for boneless wings. The patty melt was perfectly cooked. I opted for no swiss and to add American instead and it was so ooey gooey melty. It was exactly the comfort food needed. The fries were crispy. Ordered through DoorDash & Holy guacamole... my bf & I have been to ohio from MD 1-2x per year the past 3 years and have never tried this place until today. I just ordered a bunch of stuff for the two of us to share and everything tastes INCREDIBLE. Not to be dramatic- but i could literally drink their pretzel cheese dip. Everything is clearly made with intent, love, and quality ingredients. Might stay an extra day in mentor just so we can eat here again. Would not recommend if you're a biracial couple. One of the bartenders looked past us I don't know how many times but served everyone else around us. Finally did and then told her we wanted to order food so she gave us a menu. I love the food here, my favorite is the carnivore tots and the French onion soup. The only thing i don't like is, when they have events or on Saturday nights, it is absolutely impossible to sit down for dinner... I would suggest a time limit on some booths to accommodate for people just looking for a good place to eat. During event nights, the hostess says, you won't be getting a table tonight, but you are welcome to eat standing up. Hooley House is an Irish Pub that misses the mark in attempting to be an Irish Pub. It's more of a sports bar with too many televisions and mediocre live music. Food - 2/5 The food is decent at best. I recommend the Irish Egg Rolls for an appetizer and suggest you stay away from the chicken or fish of any kind. The chicken is rarely cooked correctly in that it's almost always dried out and tough. The fish is hit or miss. In my opinion, stick to sandwiches and fries. Service - 3/5 The servers here are almost always polite, attentive and knowledgeable of the food and drinks available. The problem is, they're spread far too thin and seem to be overworked by management. The bar can get hectic - good luck getting a drink on a Friday night. But usually if you're seated you'll get decent service. Atmosphere - 1/5 The place is way too dark, filled with too many televisions and mediocre loud music. It isn't the cleanest place around and the seating, especially near the stage where bands play, is awkward and crowded. Overall - 2/5 At the end of the day, Hooley House is a mediocre establishment. I can't necessarily recommend it as there are much better places to visit in the Mentor area. read more

Hooley house has an excellent family atmosphere and wonderful food. Our waitress was on top of everything and wearing masks as well as cleaning tables and they had hand sanitizer available. The Hooley burger was delicious and I wish I could be having one as I speak. The tables were distanced and they have a stage possibly for open mic events? I'd love to see what they use it for. COVID19 review: So this review was a take-out order as this was written in a time of social distancing. I can't say the service in house or ambiance. My husband and I decided to try this maybe (?) local chain. So we got sandwiches and Reuben Egg Rolls. The Egg Rolls were awesome! The sauce was great as well. My husband got corned beef which was very good. Our stuff was packaged well and they gave an individual note of thanks which was nice. They also have 2 cups of pens, ones that are clean and ones that are dirty for after you use one to sign credit card slips. I thought this was a nice attention to detail. read more

If you want some good, fresh wings, you NEED to try hooley house hunks! I got the half batch of hunk teriyaki wings and my boyfriend got the honey bbq. For me, my teriyaki wings were delicious!!! So much better than your usual BWW or typical bar wings. They tasted very fresh and the sauce was super good. For my boyfriend, he loved his wings and the honey bbq sauce tasted like a perfect combo of sweet and savory. Fries are included with the meal which i think is a really good deal, plus a dipping sauce! 8 wings, a batch of fries, and dipping sauce for $8 is an amazing deal. Both the service & food at Hooley House was good. Very reasonably priced. The atmosphere is rather dark & very loud. Though you will find Irish fare & beer on the menu, this is not an Irish pub. I've been in many authentic Irish pubs and this place doesn't even come close. That's not to say Hooley House isn't a decent sports bar. This place is ideal for a large group of beer drinking hungry guys to gather after playing ball or to watch the big game with a few buddies but not so much as a dinner & conversation destination. This was a place that you could always go to for good food...or used to be. I always order the hooley club. Yummy. HOWEVER, I never even took a bite of this sandwich. One (1) extremely small slice of deli turkey and a piece, not even a slice, of corned beef on the whole sandwich. On the plus side, there were about 3 pieces of bacon on it. Now the rest of the sandwich...no cheese, a paper thin piece of tomato and shredded lettuce that looked like it went thru a blender. I've had this club sandwich enough times to know this was BS! The portions were very generous. We ordered the Irish Egg Rolls - they were delicious; like a Reuben in fried egg roll form with two dipping sauces, thousand island and Hooley sauce. Hooley sauce is great!! The primary flavors are horseradish in mayo, but there's some warm heat in the mix, too. I ordered the Chicago style beef dip sandwich. The roll was so fresh!! I got a side salad; it was huge and had a great mix of crunchy greens, cucumber, tomatoes, red onion, cheddar cheese and croutons. My husband got Hooley Hunks - hand-cut chunks of chicken, lightly breaded and served with your choice of sauce. He got the spicy garlic sauce - we both loved it. It was kind of sweet & tangy, while being satisfyingly garlicky. They have a nice patio for dining, but we chose to eat inside to watch baseball on one of the big screen TVs. This place used to be amazing but after quick expansion and a thinning staff it really has become just like a chain restaurant Strap in y'all because this is detailed. So many years ago when Hooley House opened it was amazing. The grub was like homemade bar food the staff was awesome and even the owners would hang out. Well fast forward to present day. The wife and I went in on a whim. Both having frequented the place early in its existence. So we already knew what we wanted. We enter at 5 on a Thursday evening. Maybe 20 people in the place. No big deal. People work so they'll be there later plus we will get to eat quicker. We are seated at a booth looking into the kitchen. Waitress brings us our menus ( which have been really condensed) and I tell the waitress I'll have the sweet heat hunks, one pound pleas with tots and the wife orders her honey mustard bbq hunks. Waitress looks dumbfounded. She says I don't know what that means? We both glance at the menu and come to find out not only are the sauces all different but they are now an 8 or 16 count. I said ok hold on. What is the flavor that used to be sweet heat. The waitress said to hold on she was going to ask a manager. She cane back and said Sweet Firecracker is the name it was changed to. I said thank lord I'll have that. Wife gets Carolina Gold since it sounded like what she used to get. We also got the Irish Eggrolls which we both have had before and loved. So fast forward 25 minutes and our boiling egg rolls and plates of chicken breasts show up. Not the hunks we used to love. These were your basic giant eagle chicken fingers chopped in half and drizzled with some brown sauce. Not the awesome red sweet heat sauce. I ate one bite and not another. Very disappointed. I had the most burnt and dried out cheesesteak today. I understood it was served on Naan bread instead of a bun, which is totally fine. But the whole thing was dryer than a desert and actually burnt. I only at half because the second half tasted like charcoal. Loaded fries SO over done that it was a solid brick of potato with no other flavors. Had to slather in ketchup just to choke it down. Hubby had an Irish melt that had no flavor. AND the wait staff sucked. We waited forever for our check despite asking another waitress to fetch our waiteess. We watched her stand at the front and just talk to the hostess. Had to then ask the manager (or someone saying they were a manager) for our check because our waitress was up font chatting. He said, "Gotta love that." On our way out he simply said "Sorry dude." Yeah... me too! $34 for this experience?? This place used to be mediocre at least, despite being a bar.
