The Hoppy Brewer is a really comfortable place in downtown Gresham to relax and enjoy a great microbrew. As soon as we stepped inside, I just felt immediately comfortable in their warm, pub-like atmosphere. The man at the counter welcomed us and he helpfully explained the choices on the current tap list. I was pretty impressed with the twenty-eight different brews on their menu board. He offered us a couple of samples, and my friend and I both chose "Krauski's Winter Splendor", which was their own brew there at Hoppy. It was good stuff! They don't serve food, but they do have a great arrangement with the restaurant next door, The Local Cow. You can order food from Local Cow, and they'll bring it over to you at Hoppy Brewer, so we ordered some fries. I LIKE that arrangement. . .really convenient! I don't know how many times I've been here. The people there know my name and practically have a beer ready for me as I walk up to the taps. "You want the Bavik?" lol. The live music is great. I really love this place, the beer, the service and the sense of humor of the staff. Very friendly. The burger shop next door will serve you in the beer garden or in the Hoppy itself. Bus your tables! I even went in there to study for work-related stuff and just sat there, ordering a ridiculous amount of root beer, reading endlessly. Nice place. People complaining about them not serving food? It's a homebrew shop and tap room. They don't need to serve food. It's called liquid bread. Drink it. You can bring food in....Go get a greasy slob of beef next door, some pho about 10 feet away, cupcakes about a block away, some Lebanese/Mediterranean food across the street, Thai about a block away, etc etc. You can bring the food back and eat it there. Just don't be a douche and bus your tables. read more

I have to say momma was right - you get what you pay for. The beer selection here in their bottle section was very very good and the prices were high--BUT along with the beer selection was the assistance of the owner who knows his beers. This is part of what you are paying for. We are from out of the area and we are beer snobs so this was a wonderful stop in a beautiful scenic restored downtown of Gresham. They have brewing supplies, a good collection of curated bottles/cans, and beers on tap for tasting indoors or out on their patio. read more

Right from the time you walk in you feel like you've stepped into a casual but masculine living room. With so many generic tap houses and growler stations starting up, it was refreshing to visit one that had its own identity and creativeness. The gentleman that helped us was very low key and friendly making it easy to relax and enjoy the suds. They brew a beer called "Fiesta Cerveza" and it is a mind blowing perfect summer beer. We come here often for the solid tap selection. They allow our toddler to hang too, which makes this place even better for us. We grab some grub from the Local Cow next door, and it makes for a nice lunch date with the fam. When we're Kid-less it's nice to sit out on the patio and enjoy our beer and burgers. I went in there today and was treated like family. I asked to post up at a table outside to do some studying, I was enphatically encouraged to do so. I purchased a beer and sat down. A few hours later, my dog was ready to be picked up from a nearby groomer, the staff encouraged me to leave my bag. Safely tucked away, and even reserved my table (near an outlet). I needed that treatment today and I am so grateful for it. Dawn (?) made me feel like I was a valued, long-time, well-known customer and she just made me one today. My first visit to downtown Gresham brought me here, for their 8th anniversary, and a Saturday afternoon performance by one of my favorite bands, the J.T. Wild band. I don't homebrew any more, so can't speak to that part of the business, but the taproom was great! Excellent selection, friendly folks, and samples given. This place is great! They have a wonderful selection on tap, great home brewing materials and supplies for your latest home brew, a wonderful selection of bottles to take home (even some German beers we haven't seen in very many places!!!). The Local Cow is next door and they will deliver food to you while you are in the beer garden. We loved the laid back atmosphere and they have events quite often. We will be back again! Tried the black spade stout which is pretty good. My friend got the notoriouuuua triple IPA, this one is strong though. But it taste pretty dank and would recommend this over the black spade. Love the atmosphere and beer selection. The bottle selection is truly overwhelming. I felt the price a bit on the high side. We got there later on Saturday night; we were told that we could not eat outside in the beer garden if we ordered from the Local Cow since they were going to close soon. They announced last call at 9:15pm. Closing time is 10pm. So get there more than an hour before closing time if you want to eat too. read more

There's a great selection whether you are hanging out for a while or picking up something to take home. Super sweet bottle/homebrew shop. My wife and I visited from the east coast exclusively for hop season in the area. Stopped by and checked out the homebrew shop and moseyed to the bottle shop and had a pint of homebrew. This place is awesome. Large, ever-changing selection of beers (both draft and bottle). Knowledgeable staff, great service, and the ability to bring food from surrounding restaurants in for eating (done everything from burgers to pizzas). Beers on tap and bottles in the fridge. There weren't a ton of taps but there were enough to find a few we were interested in. Loved that we were able to walk here (short distance off the Springwater Trail), and there was a nice biergarten to enjoy our beers on the beautiful day. Right next door is the Local Cow, so if you're hungry, you can get some food right there and still sit on the patio. Friendly servers was a bonus--they even got our dogs some water! The adult beverage selection (of beers and some wines) was enormous. They host sellers every other night. The staff was very attentive. Although they have no food at Hoppy Brewer they are friendly with The Local Cow next door who has excellent food and they'll deliver to you in the outside seating area between both buildings. So I stopped by after hiking the waterfalls. I'm from out of town, but am an avid beer guy. Found this place on yelp. Was presented with a pretty big list of beers and was looking for the right one. I would have paid for a flight, but that would wasn't an option, I guess because they aren't a brewery? Anyways they gave me a sample in a small thimble sized plastic cup, which I have NEVER experienced in a brewery, even the ones that serve other brewers beer. So after the 3 thimble, he makes the comment "wow, you are all across the board!" I decided to ask for one more thimble, and he asks me "are you almost there!" I'm almost 50 years old and certainly don't look like someone who is looking to catch a buzz on samples. I've actually never walked out of a brewery only taking samples and have never seen it happen, but I guess it's possible. My wife and I did pay for pints of beer, but only cause we didn't want to go some place else. Anyways, this is my first negative review of a brewery and hopefully my last. We come here quite often, often after I have been hiking. We have never had any unpleasant experience with the staff at all. They have the patience of a Job (or whomever). Very few, but some customers ask for so many samples. The staff is first very knowledgeable and so patient. They have super customer service and are so friendly. While this place has been open almost a year, I went there for the first time on May 5th, as it was one of the locations for the Mt Hood Jazz Fest that was happening in Gresham, The place is part brewing supplies store (you will either feel like a kid in a candy store if you are a brewer, or will WANT to become a brewer), and part pub. There's some spaces inside to sit, as well as a cool outside patio, which is where the music was happening. They have a small but greatly planned out list of beers on tap (and one cider), as well as having multiple coolers with some amazing beers in cans and bottles. But the true reason this place got 5 stars, was that it genuinely had the nicest staff I've seen in any venue in the last year. Both my friend and myself were pleasantly surprised at how nice everyone we met that evening was truly a joy to meet. I came here for my first (and ONLY) time last week, and I must say they have a mediocre selection of decent beer......... BUT the prices are comparable, if not better, most other places that have craft beers. I will say though, the customer service my girlfriend and I received would be the only positive reason for returning.... although that does only go for the employees. I honestly have never in my life felt as weird and creeped out, as I did from the "owner". (Reason I quotation it, is because NO owner should feel it okay to conduct himself the way this one did!) As we arrived, we were greeted with awesome smiles and hello's. We definitely felt like it was a comfortable and warm environment, but that was only until we had a few sips of our ciders we ordered... about 45 seconds into them we were greeted by an individual named Steve, I believe, who I later found out was the owner. He started off very personable and nice it seemed, but in the next few visits he seemed to attempt to warm up to us (i.e. putting his hand on our shoulders, and complimenting on our looks). At first we were a bit weirded out, until we observed him inside siting at a table drinking what clearly looked like beer (which I believe is illegal?) . After that, we were a bit suspicious of the entire establishment. He continued to go around and talk to other customers, and it seemed as though he would be especially close and warm to women. We were VERY reluctant when another employee would be at our table, before the owner had a chance to stop. Needless to say, we are very indifferent on returning to the Hoppy, and I do apologize... but if we do return, it will only be made if the owner is not present. So if any ladies are reading this, and are planning to have a relaxing drink outing, try and bring a man with you! read more

Great place to hang out, especially outside in the summer. Appreciate their willingness to let people bring in food from other restaurants. Saves them from having to prepare food, and gives Gresham that good community feel by allowing guests to enjoy several local businesses in one evening. Great tap list and friendly staff too. read more
