I came to this restaurant on a Tuesday evening to order a special meal (which a portion of the proceeds will go towards supporting a charity that I support, as part of Giving Tuesday). When I entered, I was warmly greeted by a man who kindly explained what was included in this special meal. Once I selected the items (appetizer- deep fried caulifowers, main- Palak Paneer, and dessert- rasmalai), I sat down on a nearby chair and waited. While waiting, I looked around and observed the decor- warm colours and bronze repeated in various places, a Christmas tree was by the entrance, and the place was separated into two sections, bar by the entrance and the dining area behind the curtains to add to the cozy experience. When my order was ready, the man kindly informed me that the kitchen also included a second dessert (Gulab Jamun). I was excited that I would be getting two desserts, yum! Once I got home, I could not wait to dig in! All the items were delicious- my favourite was the main dish, Palak Paneer. I love spinach and cheese, so I was happy to be able to eat them both in a curry form. The naan and the rice that were included with the meal were good, the portion size was generous and I ate the rest for the next two days. I look forward to coming here again in the future to dine-in. It is located in downtown near the Eaton Centre, so it is easy to get to. Give this place a try if you are looking for a new place to try!

I had the gulab jamun (bottom left).

I visited The Host with friends for a winterlicious lunch a while back. The host is a family run restaurant and the ambience feels a bit more upscale. The service we received was good. We were greeted warmly, had our orders taken promptly and food came out quickly. I've been to a lot of Indian restaurants from 'fast food' to those labeling them as 'finer' affair. I'm not clear on what makes this restaurant fine cuisine besides the ambience and food presentation because the taste of the food does not feel elevated in any way. I will note though that their prices are decent - it is not too expensive considering the fine cuisine label. For the lunch three course, I got the bhajia (vegetable onion fritter), butter chicken, and the gulab jamun. Nothing was bad, but also nothing was amazing or stood out. The menu says the butter chicken is supposed to have a twist and be spicier and less creamy but I didn't notice a significant difference from other butter chickens I've tried. To sum up my experience, it was okay. The Host has been around for a while, since 1996. But there are so many competing Indian restaurants nowadays and the taste at The Host doesn't stand out compared to other places I've tried.

Although I have been to many Indian buffets, the 3 items that I enjoyed the most from this buffet were the freshly made (brought to my table direct from the kitchen) tandoori chicken and a basket of garlic naan. The chicken meat was smoky, juicy and tender and the garlic naan was crispy and soft and laden with garlic. The broccoli mushroom soup was nice and flavourful and complemented the naan. I could eat these 3 items alone next time. The staff was polite and very kind. A lovely experience. The feedback that I would offer to Management is that the chicken in the butter chicken tasted dry. Would also be nice to have a few more buffet items and papadum as their selection is small. All in all, I would return solely for the Tandoori chicken, garlic naan and their broccoli mushroom soup.

This was our first time at the new location for dinner, have ordered takeout lots of times and the flavours are fantastic. The new location is further downtown and has been done well. The food was excellent, great service and glad to say the quality and authenticity is still there

The food was excellent. I was just thinking why we don't go here more often. This restaurant had very good quality naan, infact one of the best I've ever had. The restaurant had a rustic look, where they had some exposed brick walls and Indian art on the window sill. The room was well lit, which was nice to be able to see our food. The service I was a little surprised to see how slow it was. We were the only guests at the restaurant, the whole thing seemed to have take time for us to be checked on, and took a while for the bill to come. The food really makes this place exceptional! The flavours was brimming out of every bite. It was a little spicy, which I thought was amazing, as most places are a little apprehensive to be this bold in their flavour profiles. The naan was perfect! It was warm, crispy exterior, with soft, chewy interior, wow. Wow. Best naan. The chicken 65 was exploding with all kinds of flavours, sauces well, and good quality chicken breast that was cooked to perfection. The presentation on all our dishes were superb. Over all we enjoyed our food tremendously, if you haven't been to a place to try an authentic Indian food experience, and you can't fly to India, go to this place. Don't forget the naan

We tried this restaurant because it was in the vicinity and were disappointed. Service was not existent, staff was roaming around clueless. We had to ask for menu, water and food multiple times. The food was bland and flavourless, the roti was dry and crusty. I will NOT recommend this restaurant.

Delicious Indian cuisine with lots of flavours!! This is our favourite family Indian restaurant. The staff are prompt with the service but could be more friendly/professional. The food is outstanding. Desserts were nothing amazing I've had better Raas malai and gulab jaman. Naan was fresh, protein portion is very good in each dish. Price is a little steep but worth it. Tandoori Chicken could have a bit more masala and could be made more moist but the taste was good and I had it with the gravy from Shrimp Vindaloo.

    Kebab Platter, bursting in flavour

Came here on a Saturday afternoon. Spontaneous. Used the yelp deal ($35 for $50 voucher) which was the icing to the cake! Ordered Kebab Platter and Lamb Dum Biryani. Amazing food! Bursting with flavour! Good portion (I did not expect that). Definitely on the pricy side but I think it's worth it. We didn't order any drinks or starters and had dessert somewhere else. $54 before tips ain't bad at all. Would come back again, recommend and my boyfriend approves!

Tandoor chicken - savoury delicious, lamb roganjosh - sauce is decadent but lamb too hard, garlic naan - delicious

Came here for lunch on Sunday. I wanted to go to the location on Wellington where i had thali lunch platter before during work lunch which was so amazing and great deal. So was disappointed they didnt have that here. But otherwise food was still very delicious. Got Lamb Roganjosh and tandoori chicken, they were both so delicious. Roganjosh sauce was amazing, subtly flavorful; just the lamb was a bit on the hard side. Including one glass of wine, garlic naan and cucumber salad, twas about $60 for 2 ppl, so $30 lunch, which is on the pricy side for a casual lunch but i find it worth it for a nice lunch every once in a while. The sun room patio is beautiful, nice peaceful atmosphere, and going on Sunday lunch is very pleasant.

A variety of food from the lunch buffet.

Midway through the painfully slow setup process, the entire store started filling with the scent of something glorious. Rich spices, buttery warmth... it was the kind of smell that stops conversations. Everyone working there was Indian, and they were all clearly just trying to wrap up my account so they could dig into whatever just got delivered. I had to ask--where's that food from? "Kothur," they said, almost in unison. That was the recommendation, and it stuck with me. I walked by the place once. The exterior didn't scream "hidden gem." Thought about ordering delivery a few times but never followed through. Life, you know? Today, I finally went. From the outside, still nothing to write home about. But walk in, and it's a different story. Clean, cozy, and exactly the kind of no-fuss Indian spot you'd expect to stumble upon in the heart of a big city. The food? Solid. Spices landed right. Everything was warm, comforting, and satisfying. It's not trying to reinvent Indian cuisine--it's just doing it well. If you ever find yourself sniffing the air near a phone shop and wondering what that divine smell is--it might just be Kothur. TL;DR Not flashy. Surprisingly good. Smelled it before I tasted it. It was flavorful, but there was no distinct flavor. The Bhel Puri was yummy, but they served us wayyyy too much for only a party of 2. The garlic naan was fine. I also ordered the sweet lassi, which was tasty. The seating was fine and they had a coat rack which was nice. It's open late (till 11pm) which is convenient and why I might come here again, but otherwise the food did not stand out to me at all.

Unfortunately, lots of places in Toronto who make promises of serving biryani teleport you to hell. My friends and family are lifelong fans of biryani. Of all the places Biryaniwalla is highly recommended and I have usually had it at get-togethers. This time though I decided to visit the place and order a take out personally. Located a few meters away from Bathurst station , the restaurant stands amongst other Asian eataries. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly by Ankita at the reception. We asked her for recommendations and she patiently explained us the options and advised 2 biryanis based on our spice tolerance and preferences. Taking her advice, we ordered: - Chicken Kaju Ghee Roast Bucket with double Masala for $43 ($39.99 for Biryani and Double masala pay $2.99 extra). - Palnadu Chicken Biryani ( $18.99) Ambience wise, the place is pretty chill with neatly lined tables for family and the huge Biryaniwalla Logo adorning the big wall. There was also a spin the wheel game, which you can play if you place a google review. While we waited for our order, the shop was quite busy with mobile food delivery orders. After about 10 minutes, we got our order and took it home. Chicken Kaju Ghee Roast Bucket: This is possibly their bestselling biryani. And I have to confess, I have tried it before and I absolutely love it. It is a delicious biryani , with nice moist chicken pieces, cashews and which is not too overpowering with spices. We ordered double masala because my better half likes it that way. The quantity for bucket was huge and can easily satify 3-4 people. Chicken Palnadu Biryani: Compared to Kaju Ghee Roast, this one is more tangy and a bit on the spicier side. It is a slight Achari taste and it was surprisingly delicious. Also, you get Salan (spicy-tangy gravy) and Raita (yoghurt mixture) with the biryanis, and they go quite well with the biryani. However, i somehow still felt the biryanis lack that authentic taste of biryani that you get in India and Pakistan. Real authentic biryanis have the inherent smoky flavor which comes from coal which is used to cook biryani and to give Biryani the dum ( pots are sealed and cooked over slow heat with coal - at bottom and at top.) Also missed that Birista that usually accompany Biryani layers. That being said, these are quite good biryanis. To foodies: Possibly the best biryani restaurant is toronto, that gets it as close to the authentic taste. The biryanis are delicious and they have lot of other options including seafood biryani. The quantities are huge and you and your loved ones will truly enjoy To management: Great biryanis. Great service by Ankita. Would love if you guys can sprinkle some birista ( fried onions) at the top layer or provide it on the side. Also it would be great if you can provide some incentive for customers who order directly from store. I knew you once had 10%.off , which when I asked was told it's still on but you need the offer card. I was a bit let down by that because at the end, it's just a formality. Also spin the wheel if you place a google review is a cheap tactic to get reviews. Just do it as a fun activity guys. Creates goodwill. As a brand strategist , I always recommend customer experience over a few dollars Overall this is a great place for biryanis. I definitely recommend it.
