Absolutely delicious food here! Ordered pickup and we didn't even know it was a Michelin guide restaurant until we entered. No wonder everything was so lovely. They gave us a whole garlic naan as it is uncut in the foil and that was very impressive! Really cool that they did that cuz most restaurants just cut it up and give it to you if you want it to go. Naan itself was very fresh and flavorful. They didn't really put any butter on top which was quite nice. So just a classic lovely garlic naan. Dahi Kebab appetizer - so yum! It was really flavorful on its own, and with that mint chutney it was even better! Husband loved the Malai Kofta ! Curry was properly creamy and even the koftas themselves were good. I needed it a little spicy so added a bit of spice to it and it was perfect. They also had a promotion going on for free samosas with an order of $50 or more. For a Michelin recommended place we expected more from the meal. Service was slow and we had to ask two different staff members just to get some water. The food itself was good, but I had issues with each. The biryani was flavorful, but had a bit too much salt and meet at the yoghurt sauce to balance it out. The curry that came with the fish was delicious, however, the type of fish they used had so many bones and it was impossible to figure out under the thick orange sauce if what you were putting in your mouth was all bone or fish. When I heard this place was on the Michelin guide I knew this place was legit, luckily we went in lunch time and you don't need to make reservation, and it was worth the trip, the inside looks very clean and modern, the washroom was very clean, honestly this place deserves a Michelin star honestly. We got the lunch special which is 20 bucks plus tax it comes with a tandoori chicken and dessert I got the butter chicken with dal makani, the waiter was very kind gave good recommendations, the butter chicken was hands down the best butter chicken I ever had in my life, the meat was tender and juicy and melts in your mouth, the sauce had perfect balance of sweet and spicy I hate butter chicken that is overly sweet. The lamb bhuna was very tasty as well, perfect amount of heat, and melts in your mouth, the portion size is massive and I think it's worth the price absolutely. The tandoori chicken was okay nothing special, the main star was the butter chicken, you can give me that all day I would lick the plate clean, it's a bit pricey for dinner if you wanna come here I would recommend coming for lunch they got a fantastic deal, big portion and the food is spectacular, if you want real Indian food and not the garbage stuff come to aanch I promise you won't be disappointed. And also my wife likes it which is huge because she is the pickiest Eater that I know, so for her saying this food is the best she ever tasted is massive, I would come here for dinner to try their other spectacular dishes I'm sure they won't disappoint. They offer catering of individual thali / box meals with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options for large groups. Order arrived in a timely manner. The Matar Paneer was decent, but contained very few peas. The paneer itself was alright - tasted like firm tofu (which I liked) as opposed to the salty Western cheeses. The thali also came with Tri-Pepper Corn Chaat, Gobhi Aloo, Dal Tadka, a very small salad of lettuce and carrot, saffron rice, naan, veggie samosa, and Gulab Jamun (fried milk dumpling in saffron honey syrup). Other than the Gulab Jamun, almost everything was extremely spicy. The Gobhi Aloo wasn't that great, but the Dal Tadka (split lentils) was okay - it had a soupy consistency that went well over the rice. The naan was very tough. Samosa had pretty good seasoned potatoes filling, but the dough was too crumbly and flaky. Salad was just a small piece of lettuce with a few shreds of carrot. read more

The experience was not congruent with what I'd expect from a Michelin recommended restaurant. On this trip, I dined at PAI (also in the Michelin guide) and Aanch. PAI was in the top tier of most exciting renditions of Thai cuisine that I'd ever experienced (similar to NYC's Fish Cheeks, Thai Diner, etc). Aanch was just slightly elevated Indian with no wow! factor or real effort anywhere. The space is described in terms that are incredibly kind. Where others pick up "stylish," "intimate," and "cozy," I landed on prototypical hotel restaurant decor filled with awkward angles. Service was tentative and fairly slow. Sitting for ten, twenty minutes after finishing a course with no interaction was uncomfortable and I disliked having to call over a waiter multiple times. The MichelIn Guide uses pictures of the food that largely do not represent what you get. For the grilled items there is some attempt at dressing up the plate, but nothing worth a photograph. The curries are, well, curries. The food is good, slightly elevated. The cocktails are excellent. The menu is surprisingly hard to navigate. Overall, I wouldn't have been disappointed if I was staying at the connected Marriott and ended up here for dinner, but, going out of my way a little bit, it was hard to understand the praise. read more

I personally tried the chicken chettinad and the banarasi paan kulfi. The chettinad packed a punch both with heat and peppery, savoury flavour. Went great with the butter naan. I came here on a Saturday night with a group of five to celebrate a birthday. At first glance we thought this restaurant was pretty fancy, especially since it was located in downtown Toronto and had white table cloths based off of the Google Maps photos. However, after arriving, we noticed that there were a few minor things in the decor, furniture and menus that show that the restaurant wasn't exactly fine dining. We were seated in the upstairs area which seems like it can be rented out for a private party. We started out with a few drinks including Kingfisher beer and mango lassies. For appetizers we decided to get the Chicken 65, the Vegetarian Platter and the Non-Vegetarian Platter. All three apps were pretty good. the c Chicken 65 wasn't as spicy as we had hoped and it wasn't as crispy as you can find other restaurants. The Vegetarian Platter had some nice items that I liked such as the spinach in Tikki, Paneer Tikka. this platter also came with samosas and onion pakora. The non-vegetarian platter was also pretty good. I really liked the lamb kebab and fish tikka that came with it, but the chicken and the shrimp weren't really anything special in terms of flavour. For our main dishes we decided to go with Dilliwala Butter Chicken, Kurkuri Bindhi, Paneer Tikka Masala, Mutton Roganjosh and Daal Bukhara. The Dilliwala Butter Chicken was good, the Kurkuri Bindhi was very thick and didn't have much masala, the Paneer Tikka Masala had good flavour but the paneer was hard. The Mutton Roganjosh was very good ( one of the best ones I've ever had) and the Daal Bukhara tasted pretty sweet To accompany these, we also got a few bread items; Plain Naans, Coriander Chilli Naan, Garlic Naan, Lachha Parantha & the Chicken Tikka Naan My favourite bread actually ended up being the Coriander Chilli Naan! Lastly for dessert, we tried the chocolate samosa which actually ended up being a crispy pastry sheet filled with nutella drizzled with strawberry coulis. It wasn't my favourite, I think because the crispy pastry choice felt a little bit off in my opinion. Overall, it was pretty good experience but I left a little bit disappointed. I had heard such great things about this restaurant and how amazing the food is, but I felt a little bit let down with the quality of the food especially for the price. Food: Every dish was delicious. We started with the Chatpatti calamari. The pieces were very large, and coated in a tasty sauce, but somehow still crispy. Served with a creamy mint and cilantro sauce for dipping that went perfectly. There were 4 of us and e we each got one dish for the table. Dilliwala Butter Chicken: this was called out in another review, and did not disappoint. Not as sweet as regular butter chicken, and just a touch spicy. Excellent. Dal Bukhara: everyone agreed this lentil dish in a creamy sauce was the star of the meal. Amazing! Chicken Tikka masala: different from what we were used to, but not in any bad way, a solid dish. Mutton Do Pyaza: The meat was so tender and flavorful and the sauce was spot on. I would definitely order this again as well. Garlic Naan: crispy outside tender inside and tasted as good as it smelled (which was mouthwatering!!) I could not recommend this restaurant more highly! read more

It's been so long since I've has great Indian food. I have high standards and expectations, and Aanch delivered!!! I got dinner here with some coworkers and was able to try the following: samosas, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, Dilliwala butter chicken, chicken vindaloo, rice, and garlic naan. My favorite items were the samosas, butter chicken, and chicken vindaloo. The butter chicken actually tasted more like a chicken tikka masala. The chicken tikka masala tasted of just bell peppers. The Dilliwala butter chicken had the perfect amount of spice, but the smoked ginger really altered the taste of the dish. The naan here is perfection. It's a soft and doughier than other naan I've had in the past, but I think it's perfect. It has enough spring and moisture in it that reheating it is possible. Usually I can't eat leftover naan because it's so dry and hard. Loved this place so much that I ordered takeout a couple days later! We went there for a Winterlicious lunch, and seated at a round table in our little corner. The second floor dining was small compared to the photos I saw online. The decor is minimum. Where I was seated, I saw the entrance to the kitchen where I saw a pile of drinks piled up. Definitely not the greatest location to stock up your items. Not a great view at all for aa "fine dining" place. The service was good and the food was nicely displayed. My appy of two crab cakes was questionable as I didn't taste any crab meat. It tasted more like a small lentil patty. Even my friend questioned the server about the dish. The main dish came in a large heavy plate, divided up with the fish curry, rice, naan bread, chick pea curry and chick pea salad. The fish curry had a spice kick to it. Only about 4-5 pieces of fish. I was expecting more. My friend's chicken dish looked very similar, with minimum chicken pieces. The naan bread was warm and chewy!! The best part was the small chick pea curry which was actually hot in temperature. The spices were right on which one can eat it lIke a stew soup. The dessert was 2 small triangular fruiti kulfi that had a nice fruity taste to it. My tummy was satisfied. The crab cake appetizer was delicious and slightly spicey, and the mushrooms/pineapples were a smaller portion but well cooked and seasoned. The mains were a good portion of whichever curry you chose, with rice, naan, salad, and chana masala on the side. My partner enjoyed the rich and savory mutton curry, while I had the spicy fish curry. Our favourite part of the meal was the fruit kulfi, which was a complicated and unique floral flavour. Aanch has amazing lunch options with a modern take on traditional northern Indian dishes. Decor is beautiful. The wooden motif by the entrance is stunning. Prices is very reasonable considering that it is in the middle of tourist district! Lunch special ($10-15) includes entree, appetizer and dessert! Entree comes with naan, rice and papadum! Staff are kind and generous. I had a special request due to my dietary needs. Aanch is the only Indian restaurant in the area that is able to accommodate them! My okra dish was divine. I inhaled it. Everything was delicious! My colleague loved her meal and said it reminds her of her trip to India! She thought she would never enjoy Indian food after eating it for one month! Location: 3/5 A bit of a walk west from St. Andrews station on Wellington. If we hadn't bussed, then I am not all too sure where to park nearby. I am of two minds regarding Aanch. Craving Indian I picked them as I had not dined there before and wanted to try something new. I am hardly an Indian food connoisseur, but certainly know an ersatz, Canadianized ketchupy Indian stew when I see one. This was not that. Thankfully. The service was kind and polite. The waiter suggested a chicken item that is not on the menu signalling how flexible and accommodating they could be. The chicken tikka in a stew of medium heat was delicious. I was charged extra for pilaf ($8), which I regret because I prefer Basmati rice. Also, and I can say this with some certainty, the naan was a day old. It was too hard, tough and chewy to be fresh. The restaurant should not serve day old naan if I am correct. Aside from the polite service, the stews I tasted were delicious, rich without being oily and generous in their portions. I tasted yoghurt, but the business tells me it was all coconut oil. The heat was just right and exactly as I had requested. 'Medium' had a kick to it, but was not truly hot.
