I absolutely loved the atmosphere of The Hostel!! I stayed in a quad room with my sister for 3 nights, and it gave me the vibe of a vintage ice house. The staff was friendly, especially Lionel Richie the cat. Free hot chocolate and coffee in the lobby was great. The place was clean and cozy. My only complaint would be the beds (at least in the quad rooms) are uncomfortable, but that is pretty obvious just by looking at them. read more

Don't let its looks scare you! I didn't get much photos but the room was very homey. It IS air conditioned and heater ventilated if you were wondering. Staff was kind and the community room was definitely the highlight of this hostel. They provide lots of entertainment like books, board games, ping pong, pool, shuffle board, table soccer, etc. Getting in the top bunk was kind of a challenge but other than that, the room was spacious enough to fit an extra bed along with all our stuff. The place doesn't have an elevator so if you happen to have physical problems such as getting up stairs, this place might not be for you unless you score a room on the first floor. This place is one of the more affordable places in the area where you can be about 20 mins away from the park. It was a great spot to be in to get to the grand Tetons right away without staying in Jackson hole. I'll definitely be back. They also offer free coffee for the mornings, toothpaste, and shampoo. When I was in Wyoming recently, I decided to extend my stay an extra day last minute and needed a quick affordable place to stay. I'm one of those people that has stayed in many hostels in my time and really enjoy them. I guess I just love having community around me. This one is located in Teton Village at the base of Jackson Hole Ski Resort. I have always wanted to ski here and staying here just added to that desire. But I was here in the summer and could only enjoy the views of the mountains without snow. My room wasn't very spacious, but was just fine for what I needed. There isn't a TV in the room so I'm glad I had my iPad. The customer service was great. I loved petting the big cat chilling on the front desk counter. There are picnic tables outside, Wi-Fi, fresh coffee, ice, washing machines, and a large refrigerator by the lobby to keep food in. You can purchase microwavable food and snacks at the front desk for pretty cheap. In the evening, I enjoyed reading a book on the couch in the hangout area that has a fireplace. There is also a game room and board games. If you are hungry, Teton Village has quite a few dining options that you can walk to. For a hostel it's as expected, if not better. The room is drab, with cheap thin wooden walls, few outlets, a decent mattress, but micro thin pillows.. Floors and doors creak all around you. The bath is minimal with a standing shower. The amenities in the common area are ample. However, when you think hostel, you think bare necessities AND cheap. It's about $175 a night! Yes, it's probably one of the least expensive places in town. So if you compare the price to other options in Jackson, it's a score. However, when compared to other places outside of Jackson for a similar price point, it's WTF? The village as a whole is cool, but caters to the higher-end tourist. I'm a big fan of The Hostel but it's not for everyone. I've been coming here for 10 years on and off in ski season with kids. It's not really a hostel since you reserve a private room, but it has the community feel of a hostel. Lots of young people, college students, ski bums, families on a budget, wanderers, and, yes, vegetarians. Everyone is so nice and friendly but there is also the excitement of the skiing that pervades the place. Here are some other details. 1) The cost is very moderate even though it's a five minute walk from the Four Seasons and next door to a growing number of upscale hotels. 2) Lots of people prepare their meals to save their money for lift tickets. They have group refrigerators and a very basic cooking station 3) There is a place to wax/repair skis and snowboards. 4) There are lockers for skis and boots for an extra fee and 5) There is an open coffee/tea station for everyone to use. But the best thing about The Hostel is the game room downstairs. They have ping pong, pool, air hockey, chess, and board games galore. Also a sunken living room with a fireplace and tv lined with pillows. It's old and worn but in a comfy shabby chic way. We sometimes run into families we know in the game room who stay at the Four Seasons but hang out at The Hostel's game room at night to play board games, etc. The rooms are ultra simple. But they are warm which is all you really care about in the Winter. Here are four tips to make your stay better. 1. Bring a power strip or two for your room. They only have two outlet panels in the room. (See photo) 2. Bring your own soap and shampoo because their in-room products are cheap and abrasive. 3. Bring some hangers because storage is scarce and you can hang them on the pegs in the wall. (See photo) 4. Consider bringing your own towels. Theirs are small and rough. (See photo) I first heard about this place because I saw an article by Dina Mishev in the United Airlines Hemispheres magazine in 2006 called Three Days In Jackson Hole. Jackson Hole looked amazing but too fancy for a ski trip with kids so I emailed Mishev and she told me to stay at the Hostel (it was mysteriously called The Hostel X at that time) and eat breakfast at the Mangy Moose next door. I loved staying here. Such a great community feel. People of all ages hanging out, playing chess, making food, etc. there is a 70s style conversation pit with a fireplace. Just know the accommodations are pretty basic. You'll probably walk up a couple flights of stairs to get to your room. But it makes staying at the base of the mountain affordable. So grateful for that. Staff was great. Super helpful. I took off a star only bc the internet wasn't stable in my room. Had to do zoom calls connected to my phone's hot spot which wasn't a problem. Good connection with T Mobile. Just mentioned that bc the website makes a big deal about the fast internet. And it is fast when the signal is strong. read more

We spent a night here on our way to Yellowstone NP. What a cute place but so old and quite small accomodations. We made a reservation for 5 guests and it sure was a tight fit. There were 4 twin size beds (2 were a bunk style) and the 5th "bed" was a mattress that we put on the ground. Sheets and towels were clean!!! Since it was only one night, we made it work. There were so many restaurants to choose from that were walking distance and the location is perfect to the entrance of Grand Teton NP. We stayed here two nights while visiting the Grant Tetons and Yellowstone last week. You really can't get a better location or price. They share the same parking lot as the Hotel Terra for about a 1/4 of the cost. Yes, this place is very basic but offered everything we needed for our short stay. Clean, comfortable, safe & GREAT location. The front desk staff are super nice and helpful and offered us great recommendations on where to eat and what to do in Teton Village. The downstairs to this place is like a massive 70s rec room - perfect for relaxing, storing foods (they have a fridge w/freezer) and eating a casual breakfast in the morning before getting on your way. The tap water in this place is also really great and I'm very picky. Our room was on the bottom floor which we now realize was NOT a wise choice. Great for my retired parents but not so great if you want a sound rest. The people above us were up around 3am and we heard every.single.step. Just keep that in mind if you're not a sound sleeper. The grounds are perfect if you're looking to relax, play games (between events) or want to cook a meal over the BBQ pit. Very peaceful and inviting. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. If you can get past the fact that the rooms are basically nothing better than a dorm room, the amount you'll save for all the other fun stuff you'll want to enjoy is so worth it! read more

The Hostel seems to have some good things going for it like the location, price, game area, mattresses, bathrooms, coffee service, and kitchen. However, it has some not so good things going for it. I encourage you to read on. The location is great. It's an easy 5 minute walk to the lifts. The price is much lower than the other hotels in the area. If you're on a budget, it will save you some money. The game area in the basement was nice and there's a kitchen down there too. The bathrooms in the rooms look newer and the mattresses seemed to be in good condition. When I checked in, the staff told me there's "free coffee" lobby. I was impressed because the coffee was actually pretty good. That is, after I reminded the staff to brew it... They kept forgetting. However, when I check out, I noticed a "Resort Fee" for $4.56 a night on my bill. Did I miss something? I didn't know I was staying at a resort! Ha! I asked a front desk clerk about the "Resort Fee" and he said it was for things like the coffee and fee ice. I said: "Oh, I thought there was a secret hot tub somewhere that I didn't know about. This being a resort and all..." Personally, I find it really shady to tell people the coffee is free, then sneak a charge onto their bill for it. They even advertise free coffee on their website. Here's a quote from the site: "A coffee experience in our lobby, with organically grown, just-ground blends from Jackson's own JH Roasters, served up in coffee brewers that keep it hot and fresh. So tasty. And also now FREE." False advertising!!! It's not free!!! Also I'm being charged for ice? It's 8 degrees at mid-day and there's two feet of snow on the ground. Why would I need free ice? I could leave a jar of mayonnaise out in the sun all day and it wouldn't spoil. Have you ever heard of a hotel charging for ice anyway? Shady! Beside being charged for "Free Coffee" and for the ice. There were some other issues. The mattress was too small for the bed frame. It actually looks like the bed frame was hammered together with 2x4s. It seemed to go hand in hand with the plywood walls that don't filter any sound. I could hear my German neighbors playing techno music late into the night. The worst part was the door! It didn't fit into the frame very well and the weather stripping was limited to the bottom. There was a terrible wind blowing through the gaps around the door and my feet were really cold. It got so bad the second night I had to stuff newspapers into the gaps around the door. No kidding! I even took pictures. These guys even charged me a "Cancellation Fee" of $9.13 when I decided not to stay a fourth night. I gave them a couple days notice about the change in plans but they charged me anyway. I worked in the hotel business for years for many different chains. We never charged anyone a fee unless they cancelled after 6pm on the night of the reservation. I leave it to you to decide if the "Free Coffee" discounted rate, kitchen and location are worth it. Personally, I was really disappointed and don't trust the staff. I'll never go back. read more

Beware of the draconian cancellation policy. My wife broke her wrist prior to our trip to Jackson Hole and we had to cancel. I called the hostel 25 days before our scheduled arrival and they would not refund our deposit. The cancellation policy is that you must cancel 30 days prior to your stay during ski season. I understand the need for a policy, but given the extenuating circumstances, I thought it would be reasonable to request a refund. I offered a doctors note, as my wife needed to have her wrist, surgically repaired, but the answer was absolutely not. read more

Absolutely best,wallet-friendly, place to stay near Jackson Hole Resort if you don't care about having a huge room. This place has everything to make you have a home-y sense. From a fireplace, TV, game room, Christmas tree (on holidays) and more in the lobby basement. We are a family of 5 traveling from CA with a dog. and we really wanted to stay near the resort without breaking the bank.. They got it done. Families of 4+ can havea room to themselves that includes the bunk beds and i thiink 1 roll away which pay for. I don't remember but we made it work. As mentioned. The rooms are super big but it does the job and theres plenty of racks inside and outside to place your snowboards and snow gear and anything else you may have. The cost for 3 nights was about $584. Which may sound like a lot but KEEP IN MIND the hotels around it are about $700+ a night soooo yea lol. Downtown Jackson Hole is about a 20-25 min drive Would we return? oh, most definitely. This place is ok. It's not the worst place I've ever stayed, but one night at $170 for two people this place is garbage. Partially our fault not having a solid road trip plan. We came through Yellowstone down to Grande Teton hoping to find a campsite or hotel for the night. It started to get late, and after stopping at a few places with nothing available this was the cheapest option (everything else being $250+). It ended up being the most expensive and worst value accommodation of our two week trip. This was a weeknight in early September. If it were ski season I can see this price (maybe) making more sense, as it looks like you can ski-in. I've stayed in many hostels around the world and even for a hostel this place is lacking. Sure you might get an en-suite bathroom but I would trade that for a less shed-like room. The walls were plywood, and probably the floors and ceiling as well. You could hear the people above even when they seemed to be walking lightly. The light 'fixtures' along with the fine shed construction had my first thoughts darting to whether I'd be able to crawl out the tiny window if the the place started on fire. It seemed relatively clean except the nasty carpet which probably gets a lot of snow traffic. The comforter unfortunately was stored stuffed into a weird bottomless box on the carpet. It was cold enough that it was needed so I pulled it out trying to avoid touching it, and keeping the nice white sheet as a barrier. I know I'm sounding like a princess. My boyfriend said he didn't mind this place, and we did consider staying another night. Luckily we were able to get a campsite instead. This place might be fun in non-Covid times. You can't enter the lobby but it looked like they had a cool common area which is usually the highlight of a hostel. They also had a laundry area which did appear to be open and operating. I've been in many hostels across a few continents, and this is a really good one! The rooms are all quad rooms (two twin beds and two bunk beds) with a private bathroom. The common area is awesome! There's so many chairs and tables, some tables with chess and checkers, and an area with pillows and comfortable seating. There's a shelf of board games and books, and there's even a ping pong table and a pool table! It's great. There are laundry machines and dryers as well as huge refrigerators and toaster ovens. The slight downside is there's not really a real kitchen as the stoves are plugged into the wall and there are only two, but there are pots and pans available as well as a sink to wash dishes. Not too bad! Staff is pretty friendly, and it's well-situated for access to Jackson Hole for snow sports or Grand Teton National Park. read more

Pretty good location. 1 mile away from the south gate of Grand Teton national park. But on the way here from the park, you need to go through a 6 mile dirt road, which is narrow. Many expensive hotel locate here too, but this one is surely the most economic friendly one. I'd recommended here if you are traveling on a budget. The building is make of wood, so expect to here some noise when people upstairs are walking. If you are a very light sleeper, it may affect your sleep. We stayed at a king bed room. The room is pretty big. No TV in the room, but I really don't need a TV when I come to a national park. Staffs are nice. A pretty big game room downstairs. Landry room and kitchen available. But you may need to wait in line if you want to use the kitchen during popular meal time. read more

J and I were looking for a place to crash that was clean, convenient and cheap. The Hostel fit the bill. We stayed in a king with private bath for $59/night. Like others have mentioned, the bathroom was surprisingly clean. And spacious! The room itself was also huge, and features a somewhat suspect (we each got a bug bite during our stay there) "king" bed (aka: two fulls pushed together). Other than that the room was pretty bare bones. The walls are rather thin... so beware. You can definitely hear your neighbors. There is actually a cleaning person who comes by during the day, as J and I were surprised to return to a neatly made bed and empty trash cans. There are free amenities (toothpaste, razors, gum, etc) and coffee + hot water/tea available in the lobby. You can find games, reading material, fridges, a microwave and a tv in the common space below. Both are open from 7:30am-midnight. Wifi is $5 for your entire stay, but I can't comment on signal strength as J and I passed on this. The staff members are very friendly. OVERALL: The hostel was a perfectly fine place for us to stay a few nights. If we hadn't had a problem with bug bites in our room I would have bumped up the rating to 3.5/4 stars. read more

This is a great place to stay - so close to the lifts, great atmosphere downstairs that includes a pool table, shuffleboard, tv (where we caught the super bowl) and tons of board games. After just coming back from a 30 min bus ride into jackson to check out the town, I'm so glad this place exists close to the slopes. I stayed with two friends in a quad room that had its own bathroom. There is a kitchen downstairs with access to a shared refrigerator and some other ways to cook, and do laundry. Okay, why the low rating well the room I stayed in was a dump. It's actually located in the complex that makes up the Jackson hole ski resort. This was during a summer visit to grand Teton national park and this was about the lowest priced lodging closeby and it was still on the high side. This place was exactly what their website claims. We had a private quad, and with two boys (8&10), they loved the bunkbeds. We also enjoyed the well equipped lounge downstairs with pool table, board games, large TV and plenty of tables to have a few beers or dinner. Coffee and hot cocoa was always available, and the front desk staff even offered up ramen noodles in case my kids were hungry since we got in pretty late. Teton Village is very close to the south entrance of Grand Teton NP by way of a dirt road and that was perfect for us. All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Kitschy and affordable. This is hands down the cheapest option in the Jackson/Teton area. A quad (4 beds) is about $120. That is $30 a bed if you're traveling with friends. Privacy is good. The rooms have card swipes and private bathrooms. Free tea and coffee in the commons room. Free use of the fridge and kitchen. You can really bum it cheap if you plan for it. The parking can be a pain, but that goes for all area hotels. Teton Village has more cars than spaces most nights. If you're out in Jackson and return late, expect to park a few blocks away. The floors creak loudly most of the night as people wander the facility. I was skeptic of the "creaking" complaints on other reviews, but after staying here, they are not exaggerated. It gets pretty annoying after hearing it for hours on end. Overall fun place. Good people, cheap, comfortable. It is what it is: not great, but unapologetically decent. read more

Private room, slope side for $79 dollars a night?? amazing! My boyfriend and I spent the last week at the hostel and had an amazing time. The rooms are clean and newly renovated (new beds, new carpets, new showers, new toilets), and the staff is super nice. We had new towels, toilet paper and a made bed everyday. Obviously the building is quite old but it is a piece of Teton village history and I felt lucky to stay there. Other reviewers are correct in saying the the walls and floors are quite thin, but I never found it to be an issue (bring ear plugs if you are worried about it). The Hostel is a hostel....obviously, right? Well we had never stayed in a hostel so we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. I can see this place being a huge hit for the ski season. Close by the lifts, and a bed to sleep in after a long day on the mountain. However, we were here in spring mostly to visit The Grand Teton park. We walked in and noticed there was no tv in the room and at first we were kind of thrown off. Mostly because we figured after a long day in the park we would come back around sunset and relax. This ended up not being an issue for us. But I understand how some people wouldn't like it or at least want to know beforehand (we should have done our research) so you can bring a laptop for Netflix or something. The room was clean but the walls were odd. I don't know how to explain them but they are definitely very thin. You can hear the people next to you just talking. Let alone when they're actually being loud. But a huge tip that worked for us.....use the fan they give you to drown out outside noise. It worked perfect for us. We couldnt hear anything outside our room after we turned it on. The bed and pillows were comfortable. And clean. We were on the top floor and again didn't know there wasn't an elevator. Not a problem for us but I'm sure it would be for some people. I did read a few reviews beforehand and read a tip about bringing your own extra power strips. And I was glad I did. That was very helpful. Along with an extension cord. The game room was pretty sweet. But was busy Every time we went down and we could never play pool/ping pong, etc. And a heads up if you want to play ping pong they don't let you after 10pm because of the noise. But even though we couldn't play anything it still was fun to be down there and just hang out. It's a neat set up. They have toothpaste, men's deodorant and men's hair gel in the lobby/office. Just make sure you get it before midnight. I noticed at 12:05am I needed toothpaste and the only place open was back in town. About 15-20minutes away. Overall we enjoyed our stay. I read a review that said "hostels aren't for everyone" and we fit into that category. But we enjoyed our time. And glad we tried it. read more

Bedbugs. Broke out in a terrible rash. Had to leave and move to another hotel. This place needs a real cleaning. I'm pretty low maintenance and have stayed in some pretty run down rooms in ski towns over the years, but bedbugs is where I draw the line. read more
