The good and the bad. First, the good. We liked the surprising Hot Tomato Pie! Who knew? The crust is really good (around the edge), it's filled with chunks of tomato with onion and green pepper, lightly topped with cheese. Ours was very hot and freaky delicious. My chicken noodle soup was good and hot with nicely cooked chicken and big chunks of carrots and zucchini. Now the sad. The floor was filthy, appeared not to have been swept all day. Next, the tomato pie crust was soggy everywhere except the edges. And last, the chicken 'noodle' soup has spaghetti, not noodles. Just not great. So, you choose. read more

Over all there must be nearly a hundred choices on the menu not to include the pastry. The ambience is plain with a moderate chatter. Orders are placed at the counter and when ready you pick it up. Not giving up on this place yet, but hoping they do better in the future. I ordered the country fried steak (carry out) with mashed potatos and sawmill gravy. The breading on the steak was falling off in sheets. Easy to fix this problem if the kitchen manager or cook would take the time to Google how to prevent it from happening. Also, if you're going to give your customers two paultry tablespoons of mashed potatos, just keep 'em and then claim, "I forgot" when they call to complain. So, I called the store this evening to place an order for pickup. I saw their menu online and was interested by some of the items. When I called the store at 6:55pm, I knew I had to be quick to order as their kitchen closes at 7:15. A young lady answered the phone and asked me to hold. Unfortunately, she didn't put me on hold, but instead placed the phone down on the counter. I assume she did this to guarantee that I would hang up the phone AND that any other guests wanting to order would would not be able to call. I'm so happy I chose to order from Hot Tomato through DoorDash. I was sick with the flu and really needed some homemade soup. I contacted the store and the very nice lady told me they had Chicken and Rice, Chicken Noodle, and Bean with Ham. I asked her if I ordered the family sized soup how I could specify Bean with Ham? She told me she would keep an eye out and send the Bean with Ham. And she did! I also enjoyed a Meatball Sub and a Chocolate Cannoli. Everything was delicious even with minimized taste and smell. I ordered a turkey sandwich and the turkey was not sliced deli meat as I had expected but some soft wet slimy whitish shredded goo-ish stuff that didn't quite resemble turkey meat in any way at all. Music is WAY WAY WAY too loud and the employee who took our order was so soft spoken I couldn't tell what she was saying. I had asked specific questions about the preparation of something and she walked away to find out the answer and then tried to talk to me from 10 feet away. With the loud music I couldn't hear her at all. (and I'm only 60 so I'm not deaf yet). I ended up trading this gross goo fest sandwich for half of my aunt's chicken salad sandwich. That sandwich was tangy in a weird way like it was partially fermented and the grapes were very very very sour. Not pleasant at all. My uncle enjoyed his burger but it wasn't that appealing looking to me. Everything here seems to be "WET" which isn't something I look for in food. The place was pretty busy but they were able to take our orders quickly. I ordered the chicken wing dinner and my husband ordered the breaded shrimp dinner. Both meals came with fries and a choice of coleslaw or a side salad. The chicken wing dinner consisted of 6 breaded fried chicken wings, regular fries, and a side salad. Here's what left me disappointed. The chicken wings tasted like the Wingdings that you get from Walmart or Sams club. There was nothing authentic about it. If I had known that i would've ordered the sandwiches instead. The butterfly shrimp dinner came with 8 jumbo butterfly shrimp, steak fries, hush puppies, and a side salad. Honestly, everything tasted straight out the freezer. If you want to enjoy this place just stick to the sandwiches and dessert. That's probably the few things they are good at. You also have to look past the outdated appearance inside and the flies flying around. This place has potential just needs to take a step up in cleanliness and detail. So many sweets and foods and out of all things, the soda machine was down. Another disappointment. The only bottled options they had were bottled water and Orange juice. Right off the west side of I-75 on the right hand side if heading west. The make all the desserts except for the cheese cake. The offer breakfast, lunch and dinner options. The young lady was surprised I found them by the positive reviews on yelp. There is Cuban sandwiches, egg sandwiches etc. so many options that you need to hop on over to the menu to get an idea for your selections. I had the Cuban cheese bread which was good, the cheese grits were okay. They lacked salt and pepper which I could have added had I known prior to taking it to go. The grits were basically a piece of cheese on the bottom on a styrofoam container with grits and then another piece of cheese layer in top. I was told the Cookie cream pie was good as well as the Napoleon. The cafe con leche was delicious. I definitely would go back when I am in the area. There is plenty of parking in the large lot. Ordered online and called to ensure there was no cheese on one of the sandwiches . After calling, they informed me that they had run out of the meat for that sandwich ordered. After switching sandwiches, I drove across town to pick up my order. There were 2 full bags so I did not inspect to make sure everything was correct. After getting home, they forgot my onion rings and french fries which were an additional $5.99 for each. I drove back and they said they were out of onion rings. After returning home a second time, the food was only sub par as far as taste was. Needless to say, next time I will just drive one block East and grab McDonald's. After a brief look around you can tell this was once a gas station. It's great what they did with the place. There is seating and tons of pastries to feast your eyes on. THEIR FOOD WILL MAKE YOU VOMIT. Never in my life have I had an experience like I had with The Hot Tomato. My family arrived and ordered four sandwiches- easy. After about 20 minutes, they call our name, and our food wasn't even ready. We stated to the girl at the counter that there were four sandwiches in the order, and they'd only handed us two. The girl literally just stood there with her mouth open. We finally get our food and left. When I sat down and took a bite of the sandwich, I immediately tasted something wrong. I told myself to tough it out and took two more bites before I pulled back the bread and saw what was making me sick. That's mold. I immediately ran to the bathroom, where I'm sitting right now, and vomited. I've been throwing up since I took the first bite. My sister's sandwich was also inedible due to the chicken quality. Here's where it gets spicy. I called the restaurant to complain, and as soon as I said "your sandwich made me throw up", the manager- THE ACTUAL MANAGER- hung up the phone. I literally called back nine times, as you can see in the attached photo. Each time, they picked up the phone and hung it up immediately. They rejected 8 of my calls before I FINALLY got to speak to the manager again, who could provide me absolutely no explanation for why we had this experience. I literally had to ASK HER TO APOLOGIZE.
