The hot tomato pie is such a fabulous Ruskin classic, and the potato ball is soft and fluffy on the inside with a little Shepherd's pie center and is SO crunchy, crispy on the outside, just delectable. Homemade soup every day, all the food is freshly-made; Cubans, delicious Italian entrees, the area's best wings (in several hand-spiced flavors) veggie offerings, and the best desserts in the area (try the cheesecakes, cannolis, coconut, banana cream, and peanut butter pies, chocolate cake, gelato, and more) try ALL of it. I just had the best chicken Parm sandwich I have had in florida. it was so meaty and tasty and the sauce was the best. I had been there before and gotten chicken wings which I thought was incredible then I had the chicken Parm. I have never had a bad meal. The staff is very friendly and it's a great family environment. highly recommend. The only downside is it's about 1/2 hour away but when I am on 75 and passing the exit I get off and get food. Just had the worst burger I ever ate at this place. I ordered the Texas Burger w/ Texas fries, and I just can't even believe how bad the entire meal was. Let's start with the burger: The bun was similar to a Hawaiian roll, which in theory sounds nice, but in practice it squished into a paper thin slice of bread under the weight of the burger, and the act of picking up the burger squished the top bun as well. The burger patty itself was something of a mystery to me. It was clearly pre-packaged frozen mystery meat that tasted like a can of dog food. The patty also disintegrated into a pink-ish mush. This could have been avoided if they made thier own patties. The onion ring placed on the burger (to make it "Texas") was soggy & overly greasy, and the bbq sauce was sickeningly sweet. Now, the fries: The Texas fries on thier menu is rather simple: melted cheese and bacon. This is a dish that's hard to get wrong, but they actually managed to utterly ruin cheese fries! That should win them some type of award. The fries themself were below average, no seasoning whatsoever (at least McDonald's puts salt on thier fries), but the worst part was the cheese, it wasn't melted properly. They tried mixing a shredded cheddar blend into the fries, topping with strips of bacon, then more cheese. The result was a layer of cheese covered bacon that lifted straight off the fries in a solid mass, and the mixed-in cheese in the center was unmelted. All in all, it was hands-down the worst meal ever. EVER! The most offensive part of it all, was that it cost $20! A pre-frozen burger is being sold at Premium Burger Pub prices. It's shameful. We recently bought a house near here and I wanted to try something local that was not a chain restaurant, so I stopped in at the Hot Tomato. Service was super friendly. I tried their signature tomato pie which was a delicious combination of tomato's, green peppers and onion with cheeses - delicious! We also sampled their potato ball which is mashed potatoes around savory seasoned ground beef then breaded and fried - also delicious! I am sure this place will become a regular favorite. I was looking through new openings on yelp, and saw this bakery. I asked my coworker if she lived in the area, and in fact she drove by it every day. She had no idea that inside was a gem of fresh sweets. Outside it doesn't look like much. She brought a handful of about 6 sweets back to the office including a coconut cupcake, strawberry eclair, sundae pie, peach bread, chocolate dessert, and pineapple upside down cake. I tried a little bit from three different options. They were all very good, nicely sweet, and moist. It's often hard to find something tasty and moist in all of them. It was in fact the case. We frequently order pizza here. Not great but ok. Tonight we asked for extra cheese and onions. No extra cheese on it at all. One little piece of chopped red onion on 2 different pieces. I have been coming here almost 10 years, before the expansion of their menu. The last two times have not been good. I paid $70 for 3 sandwiches, an ice cream scoop and a cheesecake.. and $20 on a to go Cuban and coconut pie. my sandwich came out with a long black piece of hair.. I went up and they made me another one. My second sandwich had a short piece of black hair. The cashier went to get the owner who then told me it's not hair it's how the bread is made. I wanted to give this place 4 stars but was a bit surprised that they would not honor the 10% first time discount. Now- I don't need the discount, but the cashier was a bit argumentative. Not the greatest first impression and not worthy of 4 stars because well- don't treat your customers with disrespect. The experience- We had a pecan pie and tira misu. The pecan pie was very tasty, flaky crust, nice southern filling with whole pecans. The tira misu was light and delicious. We each had a cup of coffee. The coffee is...meh... kinda terrible. The veggie Cuban from The Hot Tomato is the kind of sandwich I crave when I am in other parts of the country. It might be the perfect sandwich. During the pandemic, I have 100% driven to their restaurant, placing an order on the way, picked up take out, and eaten my sandwich in the car. First impression is that the inside is bigger than I thought and that the dessert display cases look fantastic. They have nice menu boards, but it's a bit chaotic as people aren't standing in lines, but milling around. The poor cashiers have to keep yelling that they can wait on the next person. We ordered a ham and turkey club sandwich which we split. It only took about 5 minutes or so and our order was ready. Again, a bit chaotic as they call out your number and even as you are walking to the front they are yelling it over and over. The sandwich is huge, so glad we shared. It wasn't really toasted as we requested, and the bacon and cheese were almost non existent. Sadly there was a boat load of ham on it, with very little turkey. I'm 50/50 on this place. My wife loves their chicken breast sandwiches and napolians for dessert. Their choc cream pie is very good, but pricey - 5.25 for each dessert. My real problem is that their menu shows one price and they charge another. Texas cheese fries are 5.99 on the menu and 6.99 on my receipt. Now I forgot to check out the restroom which is one of my check points for cleanliness. This restaurant serves mostly sandwiches and pastries. I had the pleasure of eating one of their hot pressed Cuban sandwiches. The sandwich was very good just as I expected. I also ordered the chicken tenders with fries and a pineapple upside cake. My family and I tried the pepperoni and meat lovers pizza a couple days ago. I was blown away at how amazing they were. I've only eaten great sandwiches there and decided to give the pizzas a try. Their customer service and the people are excellent. I have a situation and they went far and beyond. I ordered my food and I was waiting for it but the time kept passing like 20-25 minutes and they never called me. I went to the counter and asked them about my order. They had an issue with the printer that printed the orders and mine didn't go through. They returned my money, they made my order, with extra fries, and they also told me to choose any dessert that I wanted. To be honest I don't was in a rush since I was with some friends just hanging out there but I was amazed that they did all that because I didn't even ask for any type of compensation and even if I did it I know that some places they give you like a free dessert but they don't do all that. read more

This place came very highly recommended by my mother-in-love, and now I know why! My husband and I sampled a little bit of everything that piqued our interest, starting with their Potato Ball: Ground beef, seasoned to perfection and sprinkled with onion and bell pepper, mixed with mashed potatoes and stuffed into an Italian herb breadcrumb ball, then deep fried (Yes, it's as fantastic as it sounds!) Next up came their Monte Cristo - I've always been a fan of the version Bennigans and Cheddar's made famous, with the flaky sweet bread and raspberry preserves, and theirs not only met, but surpassed my expectations. This sandwich is HUGE -- The slices of vanilla sweet bread are an inch and a half thick and reminiscent of French toast, piled high with fresh, flavorful turkey and ham and choice of cheese (I opted for white American), then dusted with powdered sugar and served with the delicious raspberry preserves. Next up, their homemade chicken noodle soup, because no matter what the temperature outside, I'm a soup nut... And again, my taste buds danced! A rich, buttery broth with small chunks of chicken and thinly sliced fettuccine noodles was seasoned with robust herbs and nicely complimented not by the usual boring celery, but fresh carrots, zucchini, and yellow squash. Last but not least, my husband's selection of the chicken Parmesan sandwich: Juicy, herb breaded chicken strips smothered with melted mozzarella and rich marinara sauce on a sub roll. Everything was great and exceeded our expectations and we, without a doubt, recommend everyone in the area give them a try! Quite literally the only critique I would add would be to consider toasting the bread on both sandwiches (and maybe others) a bit more. As mine cooled off, it became slightly cakey, and his chewy.
