So not ADA friendly, but like most bars they're just dealing with the cards they were dealt in the early 1900s when they were opened! While others had beer and fountain drinks, I had the Kansas Sunset Cocktail and it was very refreshing for the Hot Humid Kansas weather! Seeing that portions were huge, we passed on appetizers and went straight to the Main entrees. Ordered the Prime Rib Sandwich, Chicken Friend Steak Dinner, and the Barnyard Battle Dinner. Each came with 2 sides, their side salad was big, also came with 2 servings of crackers. We also got Mac & Cheese, and loaded baked potatoes as sides. Very generous with the butter for the baked potatoes, I also liked that the sour cream was Daisy, and it was individually wrapped too (my first time ever seeing sour cream like this)! Food was abundant and delicious! The Barnyard Battle is an excellent choice if you want to try both Roast Beef and Chicken Fried Steak. The Prime Rib was tender for the sandwich. I was so bummed that Prime Rib was only served on Thursdays. Hope the owners would consider making it a regular item on their daily menu. After that hearty meal, we were treated to slices of homemade apple pie (a la mode and served warn) and chocolate peanut butter pie which was shared by all of us. Those pies was a delicious way to top our dining experience. I was told it was the owner's mom's recipe, and it's a MUST have! Highly recommend if ever you find yourself on HWY 59 in Ottawa, KS! The restaurant may be easily missed from the highway because it's behind the Shell Gas Station. The parking lot is gravel but plenty. It also appears they are expanding the front outwards that you just have to go through it to get to the entrance. The entry way is a little ominous, with a flight of stairs into the below street level space. Once you're in the space, it's cavernous, and a bit of a split personality. The majority of the space is dark and has several clusters of large tufted couches with nailheads, seeming like they'd be nice, intimate spaces, except for the wall mounted TVs in each space. One corner of the space is brightly lit with a round table and some board games on a bookshelf. There's also a toy pool table in the space - I call it a toy, since it's one of those cheap, small pool tables you'd put in a kid's play area. I lined up take a shot, and clearly people have been sitting and leaning on the table, as the top moved about 2 inches to the left before the legs angled back and the table shifted back. When I went to take another shot, could feel the rail was misaligned and caught the sharp edge of what felt like particle board under the thin felt. I wouldn't be surprised if on a busy night in the future, the table doesn't end up losing a leg or collapsing while someone is leaning against it. The bar area is also a little strange, with it being super brightly lit compared to the dark lighting in the majority of the rest of the space, and a bright white counter top. Felt a little awkward drinking at it solo since it was so brightly lit. The second night I stopped in with two other folks and sat in one of the nooks with a coffee table and comfy chairs, as well as the glow of the TV, which was better. Didn't eat, but the split personality of the place shows through there as well, with hot dogs on the menu (which sounded fantastic). All that being said, while the bar seems to be deciding if it wants to be a dive, a speakeasy, or something else, it somehow works, and I could see the place being packed on weekends.

I forgot they had curly fries which are indeed the most superior fry in the game so, that's a big plus for me. But, what really shone through was the Chicken Caesar Wrap, it was filling and fresh. I've been on the hunt for a standout Chicken Caesar Wrap ever since they really started trending online and this one hit most of the right marks. The grilled chicken wasn't rubbery and the ratio of protein to lettuce was on point. I enjoyed that the creamy tangy caesar dressing wasn't too plentiful, if it's overdone then the wrap becomes soggy. The only thing that would have upped the ante would have been if the tortilla was grilled because it was a tad gummy. Other than that this wrap checked all the boxes. The curly fries on the out hand were near perfection, seasoned just like one of my favorite fast food restaurants and crispy without being oily. The Bar is what its namesake says, it's a neighborhood joint that serves "bar food" nothing stuffy or fancy but, great drinking food...or if you're not drinking your loss...still, the American classics are done right and you shouldn't be disappointed if you order an appetizer, burger or wrap here.
