We popped in here before having dinner in the area. It was a Saturday around 6 and there were about two places left for us two to sit. We ordered two drinks and a whipped Brie appetizer with caramelized onions. Both of our drinks were very tasty (mine was the bartenders choice). The appetizer was very large for just us two so I recommend knowing that when ordering. The vibe at Cheval is unmatched for a cute cocktail bar experience! They have very unique drink combinations and it is always decorated so cute inside. It is a small area, but you can usually find seating relatively easy since people are popping in & out. The semester at sea drink was very yummy and balanced! This is one of my friend and I's go-to spots for pre or post-dinner cocktails. They have a rotating menu with some seasonal drinks as well. read more

We had a great time and the service was wonderful from the time we called to let them know we were coming until we left. Tommy was great and I didn't catch the other guys name but he was funny and nice and took photos with us. Any Jay Sanders cocktail menu is worth visiting, and Cheval is no exception! The drinks are well thought out, unique and delicious! The location near the street car is very convenient and although it is usually packed, the servers and bartenders turn around tables very quickly. I just went to Cheval for their holiday bar. I had the Buddy the Elf, which was yummy. We also shared the charcuterie and rye bread appetizers. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was definitely a cute seasonal atmosphere and the way the drinks were served was fun.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I will say, it was a bit slow. The servers were VERY nice, but they were definitely understaffed. So, just be prepared. The service was great, we were well taken care of and even given free champagne. The one thing that just holds me back from 5 stars is that the drinks just weren't stellar. They weren't bad, but not worth $15 in my opinion. I did the Salt & Pepper martini and it not being in a martini glass threw me off and then it was just okay. My sister ordered their "surprise drink" and it ended up being a type of Manhattan that just tasted very watered down. They have a new menu coming soon so I'll be back to try it. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Cheval had been on my list for a long time so when I was invited to a happy hour there over the holidays I jumped at the chance to experience this cozy bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's located along main st so you'll want to plan for the traffic with all the construction, but we had no issues finding street parking nearby. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As far as holiday bars go, they were all decked out and only required a small deposit to reserve our table which I thought was super reasonable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Some pop up bars these days around the holidays go nuts with 20-30 dollar covers so it was nice to have that ambiance without the massive overhead.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Now the space is small, and our group was around six people, so we took the main table in the middle, which I think sort of took away from the whole vibe as I think to really enjoy this intimate space you'd have more fun nestled into one of the smaller tables along the side of the bar with a date.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The bar was full, as it was the holidays and the drink I had was superb. It did take a while for cocktails to come out though, which in the end made it so I only had time to enjoy one. Would I return? Absolutely! I'd probably go with a smaller group though and on a night when I had more time to soak it all in. read more

I showed up on a Wednesday evening and Eric the bartender proceeded to make my entire evening a delight with his creativity, kindness, and conversation! He made several fantastic mezcal drinks and discussed some of the experimental cocktails he was making as well. Every person who came in was warmly greeted and every drink was absolutely delicious! Beautiful small industrial Victorian type chic place. Must try their cocktails! They also have a wine list and some food items like smoked salmon and charcuterie. read more

Quaint, European, good vibes, and cozy. What more could you want? Full bar, so even if you don't find something on their menu, you can ask for them to make you something else. Wait staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Treat yourself at Tailleur and then head over here for a cocktail. It's literally across the street. read more

While Cheval is the charmingest of all charming little corner bars, we unfortunately didn't have the best experience here on a recent Friday night. Partly it was not their fault at all. Their credit card reader was down, so a lot of people had to pay with cash or walk out in the cold to find a nearby ATM. Not a great look, but again, not their fault at all. The reason we had a tough time making the most of the experience was because sitting up at the bar, it took almost 20 minutes for a bartender to even look at us. And trust me, they were only about one foot away. It felt strange and almost rude to have been sitting there and be ignored for so long. It was clear that they didn't want to help us until they were good and ready. It would have been nice to have at least been told that it would be a minute, but we were on their radar. When we did get helped the newer bartender who hadn't been up there ignoring us as long was very nice and we were sure to tip him well. That said, we both ordered a glass of Cava and my mom's glass was noticeably much larger than mine. Of course, I was not worried about having gotten less of a pour than her, but I was paying for the same amount and we're talking about an oz of difference between the glasses. Just kind of strange! All of this said, we loved our visit to Tailleur and they were the ones who recommended we walk over after our meal, so I anticipate that when we return to the restaurant (which we definitely will) we will give Cheval another go. read more

Keep in mind, it's first come, first serve, so for best luck at seating try to go during a non-busy time or you might have to wait. The owners of Tailleur (across the street) also own Enchante (next door), as well as The Russell (just down Main Street). They're going ALL IN on Main Street which is a good idea and good to see! We popped over here for drinks after dinner at Tailleur, a popular idea it seems, and I love the idea. The ambiance in this former coffee shop is pretty good, making the most of a smaller space. The service was wonderful, with just enough attention, timeliness, and attention to the drinks. My only real concern of note happens to be a big one.. the drinks just didn't really do it for us. From the menu descriptions, nothing was jumping out which is rare because I'm not picky. The drinks themselves were just OK as well, sort of like a souped-up version of a hotel lobby bar cocktail but priced at $15. I had the Flight of the Stumblebee that has mezcal, saffron liqueur, honey, lemon, and lava salt. The flavors just didn't come together and fell flat for me. My wife had the Celibacy & the Country which has vodka, licor de elote, watermelon, lime, and smoked sugar. This one sounded more interesting, and I think it was, but it again was just OK to each of us. Appreciate the vibes and having this spot here, as I think there is a lot going for this one. I wouldn't mind seeing a few more creative drinks on the menu the next time in, and probably won't rush back. read more

What a fun spot. We got here when it opened and were just one of two couples, but we had the best time. The street car development is making quite the challenge for parking etc...but this place was awesome. The vibe is chill and the decor is artsy and historic. From comfy chairs, to booths, or window seats, there wasn't a bad spot in the place to chat and have a cocktail. Just a quick little shout out to this charming little cocktail lounge. We were dining at Tallier and were encouraged to visit their newly opened spot across the street. As Tallier doesn't really have a bar area, Cheval is a genius way to remedy that, either before or after your dining reservation or just on it's own. They do have some gorgeous craft cocktail options, a few small bites choices, and a couple dessert items as well as a nice wine menu. Happy to see this new addition to Main Street! read more

Grabbed a drink at cheval before our anniversary dinner. We went at happy hour time on a Friday and we were the only ones there for most of the time. Beautiful, cozy/ small cocktail bar. We pretty much ordered about all the cocktails on the menu between the time we sat down until the time we left (5-9pm). The service was superb and they even gave us a drink on the house. I would say the night started slow but as it got later the place was packed and there was no place to sit for new comers. They have a couple choices for finger food options to nibble on while your drinking. Overall a very lovely bar! Ambiance was eclectic chic. Cocktail menu was great for the season with full bar and diverse wine list. Food was exceptional elevated and thoughtful. I really enjoy an open kitchen to watch and a nice counter space with a Chef's Table feel. Fancy but not pretentious. I would also suggest for happy hour as well. Small plates were really good. My husband and I had been anticipating the opening of this cocktail bar for several weeks. We were so excited to get a couple spots right up at the bar on opening night. It's right across the street from one of our other favorite restaurants, Tailleur, and also their sister restaurant. The decor was so lovely and interesting! There was a huge chandelier hanging from the ceiling, mirrors behind the bar and beautiful old lamps and vintage seating everywhere. It was very cozy with the low lighting and great playlist. A truly delightful way to end the night. We were looking for a nightcap and figured Chevalier would be a great place to hit up before heading home. It was about 20 minutes before closing and there were eight of us total (yikes!) but on a Wednesday night. We were greeted with smiles and tables were quickly pulled together. That is so nice to be warmly greeted, especially for such a late arrival. I love the decor and cozy ambience. It's makes you forget that you're in KC. The drinks were tasty and it's totally worth the drive. Tip-- either park in the back or park at the market place across the street and walk over. We love love this new drink spot on Main! The drinks are amazing and delicious! Bartender/manager Eric is more than hospitable. We're chatting up on everything and anything. The bar itself is decorated with so many fun details. If you're looking for a chill and non pretentious vibe, this is your spot. Parking can be tricky though, so look for the parking lot behind their building (The Redeemer). It's a drive for us from Overland Park, but it was worth the drive. We're looking forward to come back in the fall and try out their restaurant across the street as well! read more

It's located in a cool area in the middle of the plaza right underneath Chiefs Fit gym. As soon as you enter you get a feel for the great ambiance and fun variety of music. We came in during a cold snowy day and took full advantage of the FREE coat check at the front desk. On the first floor there's a mini golf course as well as a full bar and seating area. Once you go downstairs though, you'll see just how massive the place is. Theres TONS of seating and cool little nooks to hangout in which make it great for a date night or corporate events. Once you get into the mini golf there's some great courses to check out. Each one has a different theme and they make it super simple to track your points. Simply enter the names of all your players on the touch screen at the first hole, then enter the number of strokes afterwards. After that it will follow you throughout the course until you're finished and tell you who wins at the end! There's also a place to sit your drinks at the start of each hole with a menu of course specific cocktails that I highly recommend trying. Every part of this place is perfect to take pictures and have a great time. But in my opinion, the true highlight of the Puttery is the food. I had the pleasure of meeting the head chef while here and he truly puts his heart into the menu. Our server Mariah was also super helpful giving us drink and food recommendations throughout our time here. Everything sounded amazing but I had to go with the Cajun Chicken Philly since I'm a sucker for a Philly sandwich. It was one of my favorite sandwiches I've ever had. From the soft delicious bread to the unbelievably juicy and tender chicken, this was such a great dish. The combination of ingredients and the plating itself made it clear that nothing comes as an afterthought here. I also tried the loaded fries which were a great recent addition to the menu. Last, we finished it off by trying the Tiramisu, Raspberry Donut Cheesecake, and the Bourbon Bread Pudding. Each one was really amazing but my favorite was the Raspberry Donut Cheesecake, and I'm not even a huge cheesecake fan! I definitely plan to come back here just for the food because it was so delicious!! And on top of that, they recently started a meal prep service which I plan to take full advantage of! Look, it didn't reinvent the wheel, but it was executed exactly the way I'd make it at home--assuming I could ever actually find a bottle of Chopin in any of our local liquor establishments. (Seriously, who is hoarding it?) We kicked things off with the gourmet bread basket. Do yourself a favor and cough up the extra $5 for the super soft bread and whipped butter; your tastebuds will thank you for not being cheap. For my starter, I opted for the she-crab soup, which presented itself as a spectacularly rich crab bisque. Word on the street is that she-crab Is vastly superior to he-crab. This is a PG-rated review, so I shall leave the mechanics to your imagination. Then came the piece de résistance: the 12-ounce ribeye, flanked by asparagus spears and Delmonico potatoes. This sucker was thick. When I asked our waitress for a proper steak knife, she politely pointed to my standard-issue butter knife and confidently declared, "That's it!" I thought she was joking. She wasn't. Melt-in-your-mouth is an understatement; this medium-rare masterpiece yielded to a butter knife like it was soft brie. The sides were equally stellar. The Delmonico potatoes were a beautifully elevated, elite version of scalloped potatoes, and the asparagus was snappy, tender, and perfectly seasoned. The evening's only tragic misstep was the cheesecake. It, too, was incredibly thick--but in all the wrong ways. While fortunately not overbaked, the texture resembled a very well-flavored, highly gourmet paste. To add insult to injury, the graham cracker crust had completely surrendered its structural integrity, offering none of the classic crunch I crave. Minor dessert tragedy aside, it was a phenomenal evening. The service was impeccable, the vibe was unmatched, and that steak alone warrants a return visit. Next time, I'll just be exploring a different corner of the dessert menu.
