Typical dive bar right in the city. It was understandably pretty quiet at 2pm New Year's Day, there were a few patrons sitting at the bar when we arrived. We ordered a couple drinks, a basket of onion rings, and two bowls of clam chowda. The clam chowda came out immediately. Unfortunately it was barely warm. There wasn't a lot of clams in it, and it was slightly runny. The onion rings were better, they were hot and tender. The bouncer was the most condescending human I have ever met. Without any reason, he cut off all entrance to the bar upon meeting me and my friend. We kindly asked why multiple times. He would not give us any explanation. There was no line, no event, no reason. They have specific preferences for who is allowed in. Not sure what those preferences are exactly. Okay. Most unfriendly bar tender ever... Dont go here unless you want to feel like a burden for being a customer. Super rad mojito slushy. But rude lazy bar tender. The mojito is the only reason I'm giving this place two stars versus one. Clarification: the lady bar tender was very nice. Awful bar manager. Turned away customers over an hour before closing since she didn't want to let "children" in. Clearly we were a group of women over 21, and if questionable could've checked our IDs. Establishment should consider not having such bitter misogynistic employees. For me, it doesn't get much better than The Hub Pub! After stumbling out of the convention center after-parties at Inbound14, me and my drinking/party mates needed a bite to eat close to our hotel. The Hub Pub appeared to be the only place open late, so we stumbled in. Open bar stools straight ahead and a super friendly bartender - more beers! We ordered food, drank more beers and stumbled out an hour later (around 1:30 AM). The Hub Pub was the first place we stopped in Boston, while waiting for the oyster happy hour at Marliave to begin (more details on that deliciousness later, my friend). It advertises that it's the friendliest pub in town. I didn't notice any particular difference, but maybe I happen to frequent other friendly pubs? We ordered a couple brews and an order of cheese fries to tide us over (because, you know, we must be eating at all times while on vacation). The fries were gigantic. Enormous. Super cheesy and delicious. They came with gravy on the side, which I was initially skeptical of (maybe this is an east coast thing?), but the beefy savoriness of the gravy really balanced out the fatty cheesiness of the cheese and fries. We tapped out after eating about 1/3 of them, and I began to wish there was some app that would let me share the rest of my fries with other bar patrons who looked like they could use some fries to soak up the beer. Definitely a decent pub to grab a bite and a pint, but don't go in there expecting Pollyanna behind the bar. I mean, she's friendly, but would you really want the her behind the bar? read more

A great stop if you are in Boston for a burger! It's been around for a long time and the staff always seems willing to let folks know what is going on in the city while providing great service. Have been a few times this year and wanted to review it because of the friendliness of the staff! It had a very safe vibe if you are visiting solo and want to just grab an after work snack. Also a great place to bring a group of coworkers because of the central location right downtown. It is steps from the T and easy to get to! read more

This was a welcomed warm respite from a bitterly cold wintry morn. Just around the corner from that hot bed of the Tea Party and ensuing Revolution - the Old South Meeting House - and just up from the Irish Famine Memorial - which can easily be missed - sits the friendliest Pub in the Hub. However we didn't think the staff was happy to service the upstairs loft where they have to schlep food & beverage - but they did. The steak tip sandwhich, the chicken sandwhich and burger on rye all filled our hungry selves - but the best was of course Sam Adams' Boston Brick Red beer. Cetainly worth a stop for a pint on your hike through the Beacon Hill area! read more

Hub Pub is an average place to get an average beer. Nothing more, nothing less. The experience is what you make of it. Stopped here for a final drink before heading back to my hotel for the night, very close to the Park Street T Station which was the main reason for coming here in the first place. Decent atmosphere. There is a 2nd floor with a balcony the overlooks park of the first floor. . . didn't go up there, just stayed at the street level bar for a few beers. Bartender was very nice and kept our beer bellies satisfied. Unfortunately, as alcohol tends to cause . . my bladder started screaming, so I ventured down the stairs to the bathrooms. Creepy! Old brick stonework, some random kegs. . . just a dingy uncomfortable area to visit. Try to avoid this area of the place if you can. Probably wouldn't visit here again unless it was a convenient stop. Cheap beer, decent service, you can't go wrong. I'll always have a fond experience of leaving this place with my friends, 2 of them escorting me back to the T station. . . while the other (dressed as a sailor for an event we were at prior that evening) declared he was not finished partying and would be trying to score some cheap drinks back in Faneuil Hall. Don't know how he made it back to the hotel that night?! "Hey is he gonna be okay? Umm. . . sure? I don't really know. Friendly & Cheap. Just what you want a neighborhood dive bar to be! $7 pictures of Coors light $9 pictures of Molsons. Decent music playing but not too loud so you can still have a conversation. Even though it was our first time there (we were just visiting the area) the bartenders made us feel welcome and conversed with us the same as all the other patrons. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because the buffalo wings were tiny and just tasted of Red Devil. But besides that it's all good! read more

We were in for lunch today and it was OK. The atmoshere is a typical small Irish pub!! I wanted a burger but fought the urge and got the Greek salad with steak tips. Not recommended. The steak has a sauce that the olives do not like! Not a good combijnation!!! My sister ordered the same salad with grilled chicken, wish I had ordered chicken as well. She added the soup of the day, brocolli cheddar soup. It was sort of chunky!! Didn't look quite right but then again my sister didnt mind. We both liked the friendly feel with a cozy but loud atmosphere. The old timers at the bar and the young workers just out of work confirmed the neighborhood feel. Beautiful woodwork as well. Nice pub fare for lunch. I got the lobster roll platter which came with fries and coleslaw for 10.99. I'd say that's a very decent price. The lobster roll is like many -- way too much mayo for my liking but that seems to be the general way they're made so it must just be me. Can I ask a question? Why do pubs HAVE to be so darned dark? Stopped here after walking to Sam Lagrasse's only to find out they aren't opened on weekends. We sat at the bar and after being there for 10 minutes, I couldn't understand how it's "the friendlies pub in the hub" unless it's also the only pub in the hub. Neither the bartender (perhaps the one mentioned by Ryan W on 2/3/18) not any staff members were friendly at all. It took a loooong time before bartender said more than a few words to us. The food (steak sandwich with onions and peppers) was meh. Fries were luke warm and flaccid. read more

One of my old haunts from back in the day when I was a young gal. Located near Suffolk Law and historical Tremont St, this bar has it all! There is always a great crowd in here at any time of day. I went with my friend during the holidays for some cocktails and dinner. The place was packed! There is a large bar. The food is average. Basically your typical Boston pub grub. I visited with a friend I hadn't seen since we'd graduated from college together and we met Dave, the friendly bouncer with an incredible karaoke voice, ranging from Journey to Billy Joel to Adele and much more, and beautiful Irish bartender Erin, who was friendly enough to share some smokes with us, and an incredibly beautiful woman across from us at the bar, who we didn't introduce ourselves to. I had never heard of this place until my friend dragged me here as an afterparty spot for her 40th birthday celebration. I immediately took a liking to the cozy atmosphere and giant, animated bouncer/host. We snagged a few tables for our group upstairs after some minor shuffling with the (extremely nice) people already seated there and some side-eye from the waitresses, who turned out to be competent but not very friendly. Aside from that, the drink prices were great, and we were able to get a little rowdy since it was already a lively place. What makes this spot 4 stars vs. 3 is the music selection. Every song they played over the loud speakers was singalong-eligible - and we happily complied. I would love to come back here for more late night shenanigans. read more

I do not get all the hub hub about Hub Pub. It was a decent looking watering hole in Boston, but compared to the many other pub options around this area, it just came off rather boring and meh.
