Salmon crudo: it was an okay dish. Kind of surprised that it didn't come with chips. It was missing the texture. Burrata: generous portions of prosciutto, creamy Burrata. Great combo. Was so excited to try a new restaurant in the neighborhood that presents itself with a higher standard for food and experience. My overall thought is that for a new restaurant, they are off to a great start and they will only get better. I am excited to return in a couple of months to see how they evolve. Service is friendly and professional. Can definitely tell they have some more amateur staff here, but nothing that won't improve over time. I came at 7:30PM on a Saturday night and the place was packed. This restaurant gets VERY loud because of all of the conversation in such a large space, at least on the second floor. The table of 6 next to us were basically yelling to hear each other. Finally, the food: Octopus carpaccio: 4/5 Octopus is perfectly sliced. Good added flavor with dill. But overall primarily only taste the olives. Caviar dogs: 4/5 What we came for! So fun. Worth getting just for the fun of it. White crème fraiche was more subtle than expected. Hudson Rose is getting a lot of hype, so my expectations were high. Unfortunately, I was kinda disappointed. The interior is very attractive. The service was very good. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. They have some fun cocktails that seem to be popular. I had a non alcoholic version that was delicious. For appetizers, we had the Tuna Crudo and the Octopus Carpaccio. The Octopus is an excellent dish. Beautiful paper thin slices of octopus, with pops of briny capers, this dish is a winner. The Tuna Crudo was honestly ridiculous. Three weird little pieces of tuna, that looked like they came from supermarket sushi, were placed on fried chunks of avocado. Huh?! We ordered the special Tomahawk Steak for Two for our entree with Creamed Spinach and Boardwalk Fries. When the steak was put in front of us, we both thought the same thing - this is kinda small for two people. It just didn't look like $152 worth of meat. It was tender, but the flavor was just ok. The Spinach was good. We were given the duck fat potatoes by mistake, and these were much better than the Boardwalk Fries. For dessert we shared the Fruity Pebbles Tiramisu, and the Birthday Cake. The Tiramisu was dry. There really wasn't any cream in it at all. The Cake was humongous, but overwhelming sweet. The cake was moist, but there was way too much frosting. There are some other interesting sounding dishes that I would be willing to come back and try. It's in my hometown, so I would like them to succeed. But they're not there yet. read more

Seeing the dinning options on restaurant row in Nutley and the their Yelp ratings, expectations for any restaurant here would be elevated. The Hudson Rose is a good size resaurant, clean with a Mid-Century look and vibe. A late lunch, we were one of four tables seated. Known for their brunch menu, breakfast selections were plentiful. Here for lunch, we only had four options plus apitizers. I ordered the Kimchi Chicken appitizer and two pieces of the meat were pink to red on the bone, the vinagrete with kimchi powder was bland. The kimchi pickels that came with the chicken apitizer were great. The Chicken Caesar Sando presented well and was fresh tasting but bland, no crunch to the fried chicken and served room tempature. My wife requested It be turned into a wrap. With no flour tortilla's on hand, it could not be done. The Hudson Rose Burger was good, the best part was the bacon I ask to be added. The fries had great flavor but were cold. With the long wait time between the appetizer and our meals being served. Experience suggest our meals sat and cooled before coming to the table. First, the rolls. Warm, soft, delicious. The Caesar salad was perfect, tons of cheese and well dressed. Definitely satisfied the craving. The salmon tartare (one of the days specials) was a little flavorless and I wouldn't order it again. The steak tartare had truffle in it so if you don't like truffle, skip this. It was very rich and a little heavy but we enjoyed it. I love cucumber salad and so we ordered it. Wasn't too into it and wouldn't get again. We loved the kimchi fried chicken. The sauce on top was amazing and the chicken was still crispy and the pickles that came with it were so good. Super filling and we should've stopped her but there's more We got the filet mignon which was a little overdone but tasted great. The restaurant was very nicely renovated, comfortable. We shared oysters to start, they were some of the best I've had this year, amazing! Very nice presentation. My family and I had an amazing experience at the Hudson Rose yesterday. We had a party of 10 for my mother's birthday and they made accommodations for my family member in a wheelchair. Everyone from the hosts to manager and busboys were very accommodating and friendly. Special thanks to our waitress Vanessa, she did an amazing job. They sat us in a private glass room that looked out into the main restaurant so you still felt part of the vibe. Everything we had was delicious from the crafted cocktails to dessert. All the food was amazing, but a few of my favorites included the kimchi fried chicken, hotdogs with caviar, octopus, chicken wings and blackened prime rib. Also shout out for a place having a great peanut butter mouse dessert on the menu. The ambiance was elegant and modern, but warm and welcoming. We will definitely be back soon. read more

This place opened up recently and has been on social media lately so decided to come and try it with some friends. The inside was very classy and had a great feel to it. The food in my opinion was a little lacking. We started with the octopus carpaccio, salmon crudo, wings, and burrata. The highlights were the wings and burrata. The wings were grilled perfectly and the sauces it came with were spicy but had great flavor. For the burrata, it's hard to mess up as long as you use a high quality cheese. The salmon and octopus were just okay. The salmon crudo would have been nice if it came with some type of vessel whether it was bread, crackers or something else to eat it with. The octopus was a little salty in my opinion. It came with olives on type so the brine of the olives overpowered the octopus. For the entrees, we got the branzino, ribeye, and iberico secreto. The iberico secreto was very good. It was cooked perfectly where it was juicy and the potatoes it came with were outstanding. The ribeye was cooked great but the sauce it was accompanied with and laid in was not the best. It took over the ribeye and didn't let the meat shine. The branzino was good but nothing to write home about. We also got a side of brussel sprouts which were outstanding and I recommend ordering. To finish off we got the fruity pebbles tiramisu and a gelato. You can tell the gelato was fresh as it was creamy and sweet like it should be. The tiramisu was also really good and a twist on your normal tiramisu which is appreciated. The desserts were the highlight of the meal in my opinion. Overall, we had a great night but the food left something to be desired. For the price point and what we got I was hoping for a little better. Came here on a Thursday night with my girlfriends and we had a great time. In the back there is a metered parking lot or you can park on the main road with meters as well. They called us in advance to let us know it was going to be a trivia night which I thought was a nice heads up. The place itself is beautiful. Definitely looks like it should be in New York City. I started myself out with a spicy margarita, which was lovely. They served us tomato bisque soup sample complements of the chef. I always think that's a nice touch. We ordered the little gem Caesar salad, which was a very nice portion and tasty. Hands-down my favorite part of my meal was the onion soup. It probably was one of the best I've ever had. I also like that it's a nice filling size. My friend and I split the burger and fries. I thought the burger was OK. I really enjoyed the fries though. The cinnamon roll sundae dessert was also amazing. Very fresh and I loved that it's not something that you normally get at a restaurant. Service was amazing and attentive. They were always checking up on us. It was a tad bit pricey, but I like that the portions weren't super small so I felt like it was at least worth it. The Hudson Rose has been open for 2 weeks and, based upon my experience there, I think they've already found the recipe for success. LOCATION/PARKING: Located on Franklin Avenue in Nutley, there is street parking (if you can find a spot) and plentiful parking in back of the restaurant (metered). SPACE: The first floor space is huge and airy with a modern/comfortable look and a mixture of private tables and communal seating (you can choose which you want when making a reservation). The second floor is split between more private tables and a lounge space. I assume they will use this space to book private parties/events. If it's not already the plan, they should add barstools to the bar area. DRINKS: Bartenders were super nice and gave recommendations for food. We had the Black Betty and Smart Ideas in Books I've Never Read. Both were delicious and had a beautiful aesthetic. RESERVATION : We made an 8:15 PM reservation and went early to have drinks in the lounge (see above). We were texted shortly after 8:15 that our table (for 4) was ready. Despite making a reservation for a private table, we were initially brought to a communal table. After going back to the reservations desk and letting them know, they figured it out and brought us to a private table. They said it was an issue with their reservations system; this needs fixing as, if you make a reservation for a private table, that's where you should be seated. SERVICE: Between the reservations desk, bartenders, and server, we had great service. Both the bartenders and server provided great food recommendations and couldn't not have been nicer and more effusive about the training the restaurant had provided them. FOOD: Everything we tried was no less than very good, with many items being outstanding. Out of a scale 0-5: THR Parker Rolls (5/5): These were amazing on their own, but combined with the shaved butter with sea salt, were outstanding. Caviar Dogs (5/5): Really unique combination with the saltiness of the hot dog and caviar tempered by the smoothness of the creme fraiche. As we were a party of 4, they were able to add one dog (comes with 3) so we could each try one. Onion Soup (6/5): Not a typo. This was up there with the best onion soups I've ever had. Broth was delicious with tons of onions and the bread and cheese were towards the bottom. 2 fried onion rings in the middle of the soup gave the soup a great extra texture. Roasted Cauliflower (4/5): Very good. Hint of sweetness, but not too sweet. Hudson Rose Burger (6/5): Also not a typo. I'm not sure there's a better burger in the area. We ordered it medium because others in our party didn't like medium rare. The burger came out medium rare/rare, but for my wife and me, it was a pleasant error. Super tasty and well-seasoned, I would go back for lunch just for the burger. Market Greens Salad (4/5): Salad was very good; especially liked the crunchy chickpeas and dressing. Crispy Duck Fat Potatoes (3/5): Very good, but not as good as the patatas bravas at Xunta in Caldwell. I was hoping for more on this side. Chocolate Peanut Butter Mousse (3/5): My vote was for the Cereal Milk Tiramisu, but I was overruled. This dessert was good. Nothing wrong with it, but the general consensus at our table was that the chocolate bottom needed to be a little less bitter or the peanut butter mousse needed to be a little sweeter to cut the bitterness of the dark chocolate. Next time, Tiramisu! OVERALL: It's pretty amazing that The Hudson Rose has only been open for 2 weeks as things there seem to be working as if they've been open for a year or more. Highlights of the night: -Ride Out the Wave Cocktail: Refreshing and delicious -Little Gem Caesar salad: Flavorful and great portion for sharing -Wild Salmon: The salmon was excellent but the star was really the Jersey corn ribs! Would order that as an appetizer on its own. So yummy and fun to eat -Half Roasted Chicken: My boyfriends favorite dish! The portions were huge, chicken cooked to perfection, and the citrus jus was great for presentation and flavor. The farro and mushroom combo complimented the chicken well. -NY Style Cheesecake: I don't normally eat cheesecake but I loved this one! So light, tasty, and fluffy, with the perfect graham cracker crust at the bottom. The white peach syrup was also delicious and added extra flavor. The only downside was that we were sitting right by the door, and our view of our Blink fitness gym parking lot reminded us to go work out lol but it was understandable given how busy it was for a Thursday night! We came here after a family celebration, before a later-day party. We got set up at several tables next to each other (18 total, with reservation). They had a lot of available space and not entirely clear why they decided to set it up this way when they had other large groups in other areas of the restaurant throughout our time there. They made a big point about how we should order everything together and they would make sure everything came out together. They did an atrocious job with this. From the time the first dish came out to our group to the last it was over an hour. Incredible. They kept lying to us and saying that it was coming right out and then would disappear for 10 minutes only to come back without anything further. One of the young children was the last one to get his meal. Just astoundingly bad job coordinating the dishes coming out of the kitchen. They could not even do this by table, with my meal coming 2nd to last after many at my table had finished a good 20 minutes prior. No apology. Just a check. I've been here twice so far, and pretty much enjoyed everything besides a couple of items. I'm giving this restaurant 5 stars because it has a unique menu. My favorite dishes was the wild salmon, corn ribs, kimchi fried chicken, mini hot dogs, and the creamed spinach. The creamed spinach was SO DELICIOUS & CHEESY! The dipping sauce to kimchi fried chicken was really tasty! The lobster pot pie was good, and it had a lot of lobster. I thought the biscuit on top could of been better. It was too dry. The roasted cauliflower was unique and very good! Three dishes I don't recommend are the boardwalk fries, Mac & cheese, and the chocolate peanut butter mousse. The boardwalk fries tasted like they dumped a gallon of salt on top! They were inedible! The cheese to the Mac and cheese was watery, and it wasn't tasty at all! The chocolate to the chocolate peanut butter mousse was TOO BITTER & you couldn't taste the peanut butter in the mousse. The most amazing dessert was the cinnamon roll! You have to order it! Also had the Chicken wings. A little bit dry and overcooked wasn't feeling the sauce either. The way the oysters were very bland . Not very flavorful. They didn't have a traditional cocktail sauce or a mignonette. They had some kind of a hot sauce and a dropper and some other kind of sauce, which wasn't very good. The only good thing about the French onion soup was that it was hot. Completely average the onion rings on top was a bit overblown. You would think it would add to the soup, but it didn't. The girlfriend had the Caesar salad with with steak . She absolutely loved the Caesar salad with steak. But I really didn't, but who am I the judge? I work in marketing and branding so this was all fun to see. My wife and I grew up in the city and are used to fine dining so we were excited and hopeful for something special in Nutley. However, the cocktails were poorly crafted and had no flavor outside of the spirits used to make them. The "Ride the wave" tasted like cucumber spa water and the Mezcal tasted like... well... smokey Mezcal, falling flat on its nose. The food was nothing special and disappointed our party of 5. We came in for the food advertised here on Yelp and none of it was on the menu, which was also a disappointment. No one in our group was impressed with what we ordered. The prices were astronomical for the neighborhood, which is OK if you're shooting for a Michelin star... but you don't get one with dry burgers and bland kimchi fried chicken. It was quite odd; pasta and steaks were incredibly expensive but no mention of if the pasta is made in-house or where the beef was actually from. The menu was woefully eclectic and needs to be reigned in as there is no clear direction of any kind of creative vision or focus. Finally, if you're going charge uptown Manhattan prices, the food should be brilliant. It should be delicious & special. This food was not that. Presentation was good and Yelp pics looked nice, but we saw none of that on our trial visit. I hope they can find their way with the menu & kitchen and find their footing as a new eatery in this town. They're going to need star talent in the kitchen and at the bar to make this work. Talent they clearly haven't found yet. I am rooting for this space but they will have to step it up to pack these seats. So many perfect points it's hard to believe they opened only a few weeks ago. From the coolest young man who kept our table neat and tidy to the hostess to the amazing Bar staff and of course Aurora our food guide, we can say it was one of the best times eating out! The bourbon cocktail was phenomenal as was the toasty rosemary Gin cocktail. The Chinese Branzino was so awesome we sheepishly wanted to order another plate to go. Exquisitely perfumed and grilled whole, delicate Branzino. Adorned with fresh herbs and accompanied with a perfect drizzle of a chocolate, cardamom, fig, clove tasting sauce. We should have brought our favorite Super Tuscan, but another time. The chocolate chip cookies ice cream sandwich with toasted marshmallows were fantastic and we felt like little kids enjoying every bit and licking the plate. TMI. Beautiful ambience! I loved the tuna app & the filet mignon the best! I'd invite the owner to consider 1) a training for the bartenders on the cocktail menu. Waited 20 mins for the bartender to figure out how to make our drinks & we were the only ones at the bar; 2) to add in some italian fusion options on menus given their the majority of the population in town (e.g. Aperol/limoncello spritz; espresso martini; Sunday sauce special?); 3) host events for football Sundays upstairs. Filet mignon was good- a little dry, wish it came with a sauce option. Fries and broccoli had great flavor. Artichoke special was delicious. Didn't like the burrata, it was chopped up and soupy. No serving spoons were given with apps or sides which was odd for a party of 4 sharing. We had to use our forks that we were eating with. The drinks took an insanely long time. Our server was nice, but didn't check on us nearly enough. There were super long gaps between her coming back which was frustrating. My vodka club didn't come with a straw. It was slower than I thought on a Friday night, and they shut down the bar and turned the lights on by 11:30. Kind of surprising. Don't think I'd go back. read more

Overall, it feels like the place is trying too hard. The menu and its prices don't match the ambiance. It's super bright and while it's modern, it looks like a diner with booths and all. As if it wasn't bright enough, the staff brought over two table lamps which we promptly turned off. The menu is way overpriced for small portions although we liked everything we ate. The Tiramisu which included fruity pebbles (wtf?!) was a big fail! We will definitely not be back. Spent over $700 and our group walked away hungry and disappointed. read more

I came here when they first opened in the summer and it was amazing, food was great, service was impeccable.. they had caviar hotdogs, excellent steak and fruity pebbles tiramisu. I came back tonight with new group of friends praising this place and the drinks were mediocre, my husbands steak was overcooked and had to be sent back, I ordered a pasta dish and something else came and there was totally different food on the menu. The old menu had a lot more to offer, and this one is limited. Also, the service was not good, I had to continue to ask for water and needed to ask to be compensated on the bill for the mistakes. This place was a mixed bag . First of all , beautiful place with nice ambiance. Service was attentive, but our waiter had such a heavy accent that we had to often ask him two or three times what he said and sometimes just didn't understand him. Went with another couple. We all ordered drinks and it does seem like a short pour if you order anything straight on the rocks, otherwise mixed drinks were good. For appetizers ours wives shared a salad and enjoyed it. My buddy got half dozen oysters, but were very small and at 24 bucks was quite expensive. I had the onion soup which is served with two onion rings instead of a crouton. The onion rings just don't work, impossible to cut with a spoon. For mains two of us got the branzino. It does come with an anchovy sauce, but was incredibly salty and over seasoned. My wife got the wild salmon which she said was fabulous, but a very small portion. My friend got the wild mushroom tortalloni, which when it came out we both looked at each other because it was the size of an appetizer, with maybe 8 tortalloni in it. He said it was good , but barely filled a cavity. Listen this place was ok, didn't wow us. And at almost 200 bucks a couple with tip was wildly overpriced. This spot opened up about a month ago and they have so much figured out right out of the gate. The food is excellent, price point a bit higher but the quality is backed up in the dishes. The building had a complete remodel, they clearly put a large investment into the space and it shows. Beautiful interior, with a great layout. Tables aren't on top of each other and were a fan of the U booths. Lastly which is the most surprising is the service is locked in. That's the aspect of a new restaurant that is usually lacking however the staff seems to have an excellent handle on everything. Attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. Give this place a shot, they've earned it. read more
