Cute spot with a rustic modern vibe, and live acoustic on Saturday night. The food was decent overall, and I would say it's more of a bar not the best dinner spot. The cod taco appetizer was surprisingly big and really delicious. It could easily be a meal or shared. The French onion soup was fine, and the apple salad was fresh and very large. We split it between three people without any issue. The pizza had good flavor and plenty of cheese, but the dough was a bit too soft for my taste. We only ordered it because so many menu items were unavailable. They were out of the Chicken Milanese, the short rib pappardelle, the spare ribs, and the butternut squash soup and probably more. It felt like everything one of us wanted to order wasn't available, which was pretty disappointing. Service was friendly, but there were a few small mix-ups. When I asked what was their house wine, I was told they didn't have one even though it was printed on the menu. And I ordered my pizza with pepperoni on the whole pie and artichokes on half, and got half plain and half roni and chokes. My friend enjoyed their tomato soup, and said the espresso martini was very good. Overall, it has a cute atmosphere and nice staff, but with so many items unavailable, the experience fell short for us. What a great place, nicely decorated and comfortable! We went on Karaoke night, Thursdays. Be prepared for that as it is loud but lots of fun! They have a handful of IPAs and lagers. I discovered and recommend the Ghost Hawk Lager! So crisp and delicious! The food was amazing! The poutine was so good!!! You can add short rib, we chose not to. I ordered the Chicken Scaloppini Milanese, wow!!! The pictures do these no justice. The servers were awesome from the time we stepped in and throughout our meal. Ok passed this spot a million times always wondered what it was bc the cute little balcony. So stopped in with my my family on a beautiful day so we could eat and enjoy the weather. First red flag I should have realized no one but one other table was out on the cute little balcony. We walked in and there were a few people at the bar nothing crazy. Asked to sit upstairs. Went upstairs to the second floor where the lights were off and it was like an abandoned room with another bar and a few tables. We get to the balcony and sit, its gorgeous out and we are vibing. Waitress comes out, very nice. Ordered the crab soup bc nothing was really catching my eye tbh. I asked if it was a cream base she says yes. My hubby and daughter didn't like much else on the menu so both ended up trying their pizza. My hubby got traditional pizza and my daughter asked for a white pie. Ok simple enough. We waited for a bit got our food and dug in. I swear on my life took a bite of the crab soup and spit it across the table. It wasn't cream based but more of a tomato base, not why I spat it though. It was bc not only was it super salty but it tasted extremely fishy. So red flag number two, we all tried my hubby's pizza bc we had planned to all share the pizzas and that was honestly good. My daughters on the other hand was half burnt underneath and literally had no flavor at all. We even put some parmesean on it and it didn't really help. So we waited for our waitress to come back so we possibly send my soup and her pizza back. After like 20 minutes we hadn't seen her so I went downstairs to grab her. I told her about the food and she said she'd send a manager up. So the manager came up with me and was very nice and I told her what was up and showed her the half burnt pizza I told her to try it bc she looked at and said oh its only half burnt lol. So she did! Of course she actually tried the not burnt piece so like what does that do! And I pointed out to her that she took a normal peice lol. The fact that she said it was half burnt had me "Like what?" lol. But regardless she took the items off the bill and I ended up getting a spinach and artichoke dip instead. My kid didnt want to eat anything else and ended up having some of my tortilla chips. It was the right thing of the manager to do to take the food off the bill. Unfortunately my spinach dip had no flavor at all and I ate bc at that point I was starving. So eh not the best spot. I rented out the top floor of the Oakley for my daughter's first birthday and am so happy that I did. The price to host an event is extremely reasonable compared to most places in the area and the quality of service and food that we received exceeded my expectations. Khris, the owner, was great to work with. He was so thoughtful and even prepared a space in the room for the kids to play since he knew it was a kids party. I wanted to like this place. I really did, but here's the deal. We got here at 12:00 on a Saturday. 8 of us. They open at noon. The place was empty except for us and 4 others. So 12 people in there. The kitchen was clearly overwhelmed. Our food came out in stages. My turkey burger was tasty but it was hopelessly overcooked and worse, it was ice cold. Look at the picture. The cheese wasn't the least bit soft anymore. The prime rib was supposed to be on garlic bread - which frankly was the reason it won over the burger. But it didn't taste AT ALL like garlic bread. So much so we had to ask the server to ask the kitchen to be sure. She came back and said yes it is. Uh okay then. So it was very disappointing. The short rib sandwich was the only good one of the bunch. It was cold but too but tasty. And the chips were delicious and made well. The coffee tasted very odd. Not sure what kind it is but it has the strangest taste. I don't recommend it. I am finding it hard to understand how they can handle a dinner crowd when the kitchen had a hard time with 12 people in the place. To be clear - server was great. This is a pretty cool place. Actually came here last night with my girlfriend and forgot to take pictures. Sat outside on the deck which was really nice. Nice beer selection. We started with the guacamole and chips. Very nice flavor. (3) Carnitas tacos. Filled nicely and tasted great. We split the Korean BBQ bowl with steak. This dish was outstanding!! The cauliflower was delicious. A great mixture of flavors. Limoncello flute was great, not to tart. Chocolate cake was awesome!! Anna was our waitress.. but everyone seemed to help out... excellent service by all. So..... tonight we went back because I told the hubs it was good. We ordered the roasted wings... they were very good. Nice and crispy. Poutine was big, lots of pork and fries. Pork was nice and crispy and tasted great with the cheese. Tomato soup with grilled cheese. So so... Hubs got the burger with bacon and the bacon/onion marmalade. The flavors were excellent, burger was tender but they did overcook the burger. Service was great but the kitchen was backed up a bit. Waited an hour for the burger. Otherwise it's still a great place, good food, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. I learned that the specials were only at the bar which was fine because there was plenty of seating. I was never handed anything with the Sunday Football specials on it so I just referred to the online menu I pulled up on my phone. My husband loved that there were so many tvs and all the games were on. The atmosphere gave a fun chill vibe. We ordered chicken nachos and bbq sliders. Long wait for everything. Including to be seated in a fairly empty restaurant. The High Mark was a good drink, however the Jalapeño margarita was far too sweet - and premade taste, Not spicy at all. Asked if they were out of anything was told no - ordered chips as we were starving - was told they are out of them ‍. After waiting over an hour for food - the short ribs and mashed potatoes were decent, good flavor, side of zucchini with far too much oil on the plate. The skirt steak was cooked ok but lacked any real flavor as well as the chimmichurri sauce was a shoot and a miss. The Side salad was a nice touch but could do without the off brand cheese that was throughout the salad. Would have loved another drink but knew it would take so long to be served that we'd been done with our food - we were starving. Had to ask for condiments and the waitress was apologetic. All she did was apologize. All in all the place is super cute. The live music was nice but not impressed with the food - especially for the price. Much better places to spend money on. read more

Visited the Oakley today with friends and came away pretty impressed. The inside is nicely redone, very clean as well. Went for dinner at around 6 and they had a live band which was pretty cool as well. As far as the food went I tried the Crab Cake special which was pretty good. My friends got the shrimp scampi pizza and a cheese pizza which I also tried. They were bar pies and were very good as well. The service was pleasant and we didn't wait long for our food. The prices were about what you would expect. I didn't try any drinks or the bar but the bar area looked very nice. The restaurant is located on the corner of Bloomfield Ave. and Kingsland St. just across the street from Nichols Park so it's in a nice area. All in all nothing to complain about......I will definitely return. read more

Stopped here with a friend for dinner on a rainy Friday. Parking is a little tight in the small L shipped lot. We ordered the short rib pizza and black Garlic Wings to start. The short rib pizza hits every note of savory salt, crunchy, and has just a hit of sweetness. The wings were good but the garlic hot sauce was definitely the hero of the dish. For mains we both ordered the Oakley burger, which was hands down the best burger I've had in a long time. The smoked Gouda and bacon marmalade lift an already delicious burger to a 5/5 in my book. The fries that came with it were also perfectly crispy down to the last one. The peanut butter dream bomba I could have done without. The caramel core couldn't save the dish from being a bit redundant. Will definitely return for the burger, wings, and pizza! read more

Popped in on Sunday to grab a bite and watch the game with some friends. Had a lovely time. Ordered off the Football Sunday menu - so I can only speak for that food. Grabbed an Octoberfest beer - Amazing. And grabbed pulled chicken sliders. The bartender was super nice and friendly, but he wasn't exactly sure what the sliders were when I asked. He mentioned it was breaded chicken which confused me as the menu said pulled bbq chicken. Aside from that, the food came out and it was delicious. The sliders came in three with a side sauce that provided the perfect kick. We also ordered poutine fries on the side as a group. They were good, but the cheese didn't allow for easy pull part fries. It was all clumped together. I didn't let that take away from how delicious they tasted. We all just dig into it and grabbed the cheese any way we could. The games were all on too. This place has great potential for Sunday games. The place didn't have that many people - I'm sure if they promoted more, they would get more people in. Loved watching the game here. While searching on Yelp for Indian restaurants my Boo said let's get pizza instead. We had decided on an Irish pub but Yelp gave us other options and choices. And by chance this restaurant came up in our search. What a GREAT find. We loved everything about the restaurant. The decor, the ambiance, the customer service, the drinks and the food. We even got to interact with the owner. What an amazing experience. Roman the bartender was excellent. We had the sangria which was very good. The butternut squash soup was uniquely delicious. We also ordered the Margarita pizza. Very good. The only reason I gave 4* instead of 5* is because they forgot the basil on the pizza. How do you forget the main ingredient to a Margarita pizza. We spoke to an employee who was off duty having dinner and what I truly appreciated was her inquiring how did we found out about the Oakley and asked our names. That's how you do business. She told us about their live music on weekends. Their private party room. The balcony that will hopefully be open by spring to enjoy outdoor brunches. Just a warm and friendly interaction. We wanted to try more food on the menu but we were absolutely full. The food servings are plentiful. I will DEFINITELY be back. We will not return however because we found out that on Halloween this year they gave the money winner gifts to family members of the owner, rather than actually picking best costumes. you had some great costumes there and the woman that won had a top on and shorts and was supposed to be a bunny or something. It wasn't even a real costume. We found out recently from someone else there that night, that she is the baby mama of the owner or her sister. Really done in poor taste. My boyfriend and I came here to eat for the first time maybe a few months ago and once again yesterday. I love the ambiance, you can tell there is a lot of care and thought about the guest experience. You can sense the same care in the menu (both food and drink). The owner takes pride in what is offered and is knowledgeable and passionate about his food and drink menu. I really, really appreciate that. We sat at the bar both times and he got to know us a bit, such a nice guy. Last night there were some really talented jazz musicians playing in the bar, it just added to the experience. This is not one of those places someone threw together just to make some money, to me it feels like a passion. I had the house salad which was really nice. The dressing was delicious and the perfect amount. The pierogis were AMAZING. My boyfriend had the Mac and cheese with pulled pork which looked seriously insane, I didn't try it but he was in love. They also do this really, really nice version of an old fashioned, I forget the name and what was in it but I'm sure if you ask the owner he'll serve it up. This place is perfect for us coming out of Montclair which can be difficult to get a table at times. It's super close to the area, like a ten minute drive! We came here for the first time after moving to the area (friend's recommendation), and we were surprised at how fabulous this gastropub was! Wednesday nights are Trivia Night, and we had a blast at the bar with other trivia buffs. We ordered a bunch of nibbles, including MD crab soup, which was quite delicious! The Oakley is a beautiful restaurant with great seating on an upstairs outdoor patio. We've passed this place several times, and I'm happy we finally decided to stop here. It is a rather new restaurant with a nice vibe. Our group of 7 stopped her for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. To be honest, it was definitely not the best service, but I do understand things are hard during a pandemic. We were ordering several mimosas, Bloody Mary's, coffees and waters, which sometimes came out/sometimes did not. 3 out of the 7 meals were wrong (however they discounted our meals which was appreciated), and we couldn't seem to get silverware for the table. The ketchup ran out, after we asked twice, and both bottles were near empty. With all of that said, the food is absolutely excellent. The Taylor ham egg and cheese burgers are next level, and their fries are delicious. My friends loved the avocado toast and huevos rancheros. It completely made up for the service, and again, we understand issues during a time like this. My one recommendation is to not go here looking for a quick meal - it definitely takes longer, but with COVID all we have is time. read more

For those looking for a private event space here in town, I'd highly recommend The Oakley. We rented the top floor/bar/terrace for my husband's birthday this weekend and it was a great space, well stocked open bar (fig vodka cocktails and the owner's bourbon recommendations were the fan favorites) and delicious food (we did the small plates pkg). The owner Khris (who I did not know prior to this) is easy to work with, so helpful with giving tips on how to set up the space and truly an all around great guy - he bartended the party and everyone enjoyed talking to him like he was an old friend. I found their prices for a private party to be quite fair for the high quality of food/service. Definitely consider them if you're looking to support local and need a private event space! read more

I am torn. The place is definitely an upgrade from the previous occupants and the exposed wood and renovated feel are really cool. Their beer list is on the impressive side and they carry a few Jersey brews on draft (score one of Bolero Snort). Their craft cocktails were on the weaker side. They do offer happy hour every day but you still pay a bit ($9 for a craft cocktail) even with the discount. The food took a while to come out...and we just ordered apps. Their wings were disappointing. Weren't thoroughly cooked. Their brussel sprouts were good but not one of the best we've had. The mustard addition was nice but a little too much. Fish taco's came out on the cooler side (the cheese wasn't even melted) and pricey. We skipped ordering an entrée and left. Service was excellent though. She was friendly and knowledgeable. We didn't have our waters refilled and the waitress messed up our cheque as well. I could see the manager trying to do some damage control with our party as well some others but not even an apology was offered. I can tell this establishment is not doing well because it's relatively empty during peak meal hours and the produce is not fresh.
