    Lobster Roll Platter

Went for a girls night out with a few friends. Wasn't 100% if they were BYOB so I called ahead. Was a nice night out. The fried calamari was cooked perfectly. I had the garlic butter and lemon lobster roll which was fantastic. I did find a piece of shell in my lobster meat however. The gelato I had for dessert was great! Having an ice bucket for our wine was a nice touch, wish more places did that.

Got the fries topped with this deliscious homemade cream of New England clam chowder poured right on top of the fries! So so good! Nice size portion and that's all I needed for lunch. Can't wait to get the full meal another time for lunch or dinner. Ambiance is welcoming and puts you in the mood for a lobster or seafood meal.. A seashore feel but in the north. They're a BYOB establishment. They also had a toys for tots collection box up front along with the Christmas display. I would go back to Jack's Surf & Turf anytime...

We had lunch here yesterday. Our server was very nice and sweet. I thought pricing for seafood was very fair. Quality of seafood was fresh and our food was very good. The New England clam chowder was excellent as were our lobster rolls. Cute inside with two separate areas to sit. Clean. Parking on Bloomfield Ave, side streets, or the museum next door. I'd come back for sure!

Extremely impressed with the ambience and decorum inside. You are greeted with a unique restaurant makeup with one classier dining area and one more casual location within the building. I love the vibes and the getup that Jacks is trying to display; it's very welcoming. The food is no different. It's delicious and unique and I honestly want to return to use a more formal and thorough dining experience. Loved this place!

We sat in the section down the steps and it was cold. The dishes were tasty- crispy onion rings, soft and crispy calamari and generous lobster on the rolls. But that brownie was a no for me. It was crumbly instead of soft. However, the hazelnut gelato was delish!

I went to grab a lobster roll after seeing their $19 promo on IG. I took my dog with me in hopes we could have a nice dinner outside. I haven't been back since 2023 so apparently things and ownership has changed. When I opened the door they was white tablecloths on the tables, a little trio playing music. I was in shorts and had my dog haha I felt so out of place! For one, apparently no more outdoor dining. I went and put my dog in the car and decided I'd just get to go. You have to walk through the nice dining area to get to the more casual side. The owner was there and helpful, he went through the options with me and I ended up getting the lemon garlic butter roll, clam chowder and fries. $40 total The owner started talking to me about the changes they had made, very friendly and even offered to bring a table outside for me and the pup to eat at! But it was really dark, and the restaurant is on a corner. It took me 20 mins to get home, by then the fries were room temp and soggy - what can you do. But also there was a seasoning on them I didn't like, not sure what it was. The chowder was good, good chunks of clam and potatoes The roll - tbh, I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either. I can't put my finger on what it was but I didn't love the flavor - but someone else might. I should have just gone with original tbh. Overall the service was very friendly and the food is not bad but probably a better idea to stay and eat there next time.

If you're a lobster lover and seafood lover, this is the place for you. The lobster and oysters were super fresh and you have to try their lobster bomb. It's stuffed with lobster and lobster bisque. The lobster rolls were delicious and packed with lobster you get what you pay for here and I love that great quality.

We've been to Jack's Surf and Turf in Montclair so many times, and the lobster bowl keeps bringing us back--it's that good. The whole menu impresses, but that lobster bowl is simply unforgettable. The ambiance adds a nice formal touch without feeling over the top. Honestly, when we want great seafood with top quality, this is where we go.

This is my first time sampling Jack's Surf & Turf's takeout, a convenient dining experience. It is a culinary delight to eat the ample-sized lobster roll and mac' n cheese with big chunks of lobster. It is an excellent start to learning about Jack's Surf & Turf, and I will gladly look to dine at their Montclair location in the future.

An incredible find in Montclair, NJ. This NY born guy now living in Virginia was pleasantly surprised by the Connectict and Maine style lobster rolls here. Great wine selection too. Greg the host makes you feel like family!

From a food perspective, our meal initiated with a basket of some of the best rolls I had ever had. They were large, fluffy, and doughy with a hint of crispiness from a light toasting. We then shared the Veal and Beef Meatball, which was gigantic but still managed to have the ideal texture. It was also beautifully seasoned and served in what the chef called his "grandma's plum tomato sauce", which was divine! The sauce was thick and hearty, so when that was paired with pecorino cheese and basil oil, it really made for a fabulous dish. I even cut off a small piece to put inside my roll with a spoonful of sauce - chef's kiss! After that, we enjoyed some of the house-made pasta dishes, tasting each in a family-style format. The Squid Ink Bucatini was tossed with scallops, shrimp, and jumbo lump crab in a seafood tomato sauce. I did not love the briny finish to the sauce or that some of the scallops were chewy. The Tagliatelle with Duck Bolognese, tomatoes, and carrots was good, but I prefer my pomodoro sauce without the addition of a "light cream". Lastly, the special Spaghetti came with lobster, crab, and peas in vodka sauce. That one was definitely my favorite. While I do not love peas, the sauce was rich and flavorful. Across these last two dishes, I thought the pasta was a tad overcooked and could have been more al dente; the bucatini consistency was more inline with my preferences. Overall, I thought the food at Laboratorio Kitchen was above average, but that the service and atmosphere helped elevate the place. I would definitely consider going back to try some of their other dishes.

There aren't many places in the area doing this so I'm glad Crockett's exists! We called in our order about 15 minutes in advance which I highly recommend doing. By the time we got there, it was almost ready and considering we were hungry, I'm glad we didn't have to wait much longer. The fish & shrimp were cooked fresh and it shows. To start, the 6pc Jumbo Shrimp for ~$15 is pretty crazy. That's $2.50/shrimp which is high. It tasted good, well-seasoned, and the batter wasn't too thick. The Whiting & Catfish were both super flaky and light. They were lacking salt & pepper and could've been fried harder for me personally. The Whiting had much better flavor but you can't go wrong with both once you add the tartar sauce or hot sauce. Each dinner comes with 2 sides and I particularly liked the steak fries and mac & cheese. They just hit the spot more in a meal like this. The candied yams were more of a dessert and they are definitely heavy-handed with the cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and sugar. Good try, and this one meal kept us full all day!

The title of this review is "Looks Can Be Deceiving"…read more I've read tons of reviews on Crocketts and have passed it tons of times and today finally decided to stop in and grab a fish sandwich for lunch. The restaurant is exactly what people have said it is which is an old school fried fish joint! There's definitely a nostalgic feel to it from their cash only policy to the decor , to the counter where you order and to being able to look into the kitchen while you wait. You can also smell the fish frying from outside, which has always been a great sign in my experience. They have their menu on the wall and after I looked at it for a bit I decided to not to go with my fish sandwich but rather with a fried fish dinner because I really wanted to try their collard greens and baked macaroni and cheese in addition to the fried fish. The cost for the dinner was $21.99 which I found to be reasonable specifically because the fish is fried fresh and everyone said the portion sizes are pretty big. After placing my order, I knew I needed to go and feed the meter because in the true fashion of an old school soul food fish fry joint things were going to take a little while before they were ready. It took about 15 minutes for my order to be ready, and as I stated, everything was fresh. The reason that I titled this review "Looks Can Be Deceiving" is because the entire dinner overall looked amazing, however, I feel that the flavors of everything fell short. It's funny because I thought the collard greens looked like they were going to be slamming, and the mac & cheese looked like it was going to be the item that I disliked the most, but truth be told, the greens were what I dislike the most because there was no seasoning .... only vinegar. The mac & cheese had a bit more flavor, but it was dry and lacked on basic seasonings like salt and pepper. The fish while perfectly fried golden brown also was sadly pretty flavorless. And although the portion sizes were exactly what people said, and there was enough for two meals out of one dinner I am more than likely, not even going to want the second portion SMH. There were a lot of people ordering the potato salad though so perhaps that's the side I should've went with in addition to the candy yams ... but I will never know because unfortunately, I won't be back. I still have to thank Crocketts for taking me back with the old school vibe though .... Oh, one last thing, even though it did suffice because as I mentioned, I won't be eating the second portion of this dinner. I had to laugh because they only give you one small container of hot sauce, and one small container of tartar sauce for four large pieces of fish Lol.
