We were down in Oregon for Thanksgiving and decided to try this place. So happy we did, it was absolutely delicious. The coffee was so better than Starbucks and the breakfast sandwiches we got too!!! I had the white chocolate mocha and they use a powder which makes it taste so good. You have to try the Sausage jalapeño biscuit breakfast sandwich, we are craving it. Despite having had my fair share of coffee, chains, and Oregon anything, I've never been a location of The Human Bean, till now. There are locations all throughout the country yet I only learned / heard about it while in a place like Salem. I'm no longer living under a rock (#1), I'm definitely hip to it. This reminds me a lot of Dutch Bros but with a pretty hearty menu of choices. I particularly appreciate that many of the house specialty drinks can be ordered hot, cold, or blended. As a fan of the latter, this is a big sell for me. So far, the salted caramel + mexi mocha + snowy mocha have been up my alley but I still have yet to try the rest. I'm also impressed with the number of smoothies they offer, which come in a variety of flavors that aren't dumbed down to sugary, fruit based ones. They've got green tea, acai, protein, low carb smoothies as well as my personal fave: granita. It's a great drink for summer. I appreciate their drive-thru and efficient customer service. Lastly, I know it may seem cheesy, but I love the "bean" that's added to every drink. my family commonly goes here for smoothies and food. Today I arrived a few minutes before 9 PM, which is the closing time. We got there in time to be in line and add a window. The barista came to the window and closed at nine and she was taking the other car as her last car. I mentioned that we still had a few minutes before 9 PM and I'd like to place an order and she refused. Hours of operation are posted for a reason we weren't there late. Ordered a couple drinks from Doordash because I wanted something sweet to drink! We decided to order a Marionberry scone, Passionfruit Italian Soda, and a SUGAR-FREE Watermelon Creamosa. The drinks were made with factory syrup, so I was expecting something super sweet! I opted for the sugar-free watermelon syrup so I could just be one less step away from cavities.... but wow, I was disappointed. The Passionfruit syrup wasn't even as sweet as I was expecting, so the sugar-free watermelon was unbearable! I couldn't even drink half the drink before getting sick of it. The Passionfruit Italian Soda was perfect with it's good fizz and tangy flavor, but the sugar-free Watermelon Creamosa tasted completely like soda water with whipped cream. I order the same drink every time I go in and in the last 6 months I probably have thrown away a drink every few weeks. I have talked to the people about it multiple times and one girl informed me I was just ordering it wrong. All I want is a green tea latte with matcha powder not with the tea bag. Today I was given what I assumed was a strong vanilla latte with matcha that I had to throw out. Time before was a latte with matcha powder AND a tea bag. No one at work will even take the drink from me for free. It's one of the few places I've found that make it and it's straight shot to work but I can't keep throwing money away like I have. I hate to drop the one-star bomb...but improper food handling gets me every time. Before I lay in to this establishment, though, I just want to note that this review is not meant as an indictment of all Human Beans (pun intended). In fact, Hubs and I stopped here at 7pm last Saturday night precisely BECAUSE I loved the HB I experienced in Coos Bay this summer on a trip with my sister. With all caveats aside, though, this is what happened. We pulled in behind one other car, and had about an average wait. Maybe 3-5 minutes? Anyhow, once it's our turn, we pull up and the harried woman working behind the counter barely makes eye contact before saying, "Just give me a minute! I'll be right there." The way she said this made it seem like there was a line out on to the street--but really, there was no need to be so frantic. And I bring up the point about being frantic because that's the only explanation for what happened next. First, we witnessed her use milk and coffee (already brewed) that had been sitting out to make our iced latte. Then we saw her accept money, and turn right around to grab food for the customer on her other side with her bare, unclean hands. Inside, it looked like a bomb went off. As she reached out with our latte (to-go cup wiped off with a dirty rag), she stuck her can in a jar and pulled out an unwrapped chocolate- covered espresso bean. smh It was hard to believe this all took place right under our increasingly worried gazes. At the end of the day, we didn't drink the latte. Also, I'm not sure what solution will come. I can't fault the manager for understaffing (like I said, there wasn't much of a line) but at the same time, I don't know what happened in the moments before we drove up. There were about 4 cars in line behind me and I stammered my order from vanilla to almond joy. The girl rolled her eyes at me... Seriously. Rolled her eyes. She only took my order for 2 coffees and started talking to her coworker about the guy behind me being cute. I said "Hello? Hello? I have another coffee." "Oh, I only heard 2," she said. Right across the street from on of my favorite breakfast spots. If I'm headed somewhere that requires an extensive drive, I stop here for a cup to go. I like the cups with the sliding open/close mouth piece. It saves me from messy spillage if I have to put it in the door's cup-holder while rearranging the console's. Amazing customer service and the coffee isn't too bad either. Pulled up on a quiet Thursday morning. There was one car ahead of me, but one of the baristas came out to greet me and asked if I had any questions while I was waiting. They have a pretty big selection of flavored syrups and drink varieties. Not sure why this place doesn't have 5 stars. Really wish there was a Human Bean location down in California. One of my new favorite spots for my morning (or afternoon) caffeine needs. They give a little chocolate covered coffee bean with every drink which I thought was a nice touch. Make sure if you're paying with a card to let them know ahead of time if you'd like to leave a tip.
