This place was busy! I went on a Sunday with my friend around 10 A.M. we ordered something to split and the cashier was pretty rude. Zero personality at the register. We arrived at 8AM on a Saturday and there were no pastries. By asking, we learned there were bagels in the back. $4.75 for one bagel with or without cream cheese. The cream cheese smells and tastes like it has garlic as did the bagel. Coffee is good. It seems like a lot of things are wasteful. Way generous with the cream on the side. Should offer to leave the cream cheese off if it won't be used. The yogurt parfait was delicious! A warm welcome and positive attitude from the staff would be nice. The coffee menu is fun and the drinks are delicious and the crepe menu is broad. I have enjoyed several different menu items. The ambiance is nice, but the restaurant is not big and it can be very busy. When the weather is nice there is a partially enclosed outdoor seating area that makes it more spacious. The kitchen prep area is open and it looks clean, but it is tight so you can only put a small staff in there. This is not fast food and you will wait a few minutes for your food to be cooked. I have always found the staff to be friendly enough and without your fake "welcome in" Starbucks routine, but they are busy and they work efficiently. Luckily, I'm retired so I go on weekdays and avoid the big crowds. read more

Great food, great coffee, clean your own table (at the end of the meal). I've been here several times. On the weekends it's hard to find a table. Walk up and order. Coffee drinks come out on the side of the bar. They never call out what is on the bar for pick up. They don't do coffee by your table number or by your name, so you have to pay attention. I wish they would fix this part of service. Food comes out pretty quickly. Consistently good food. Had the turkey club and chips. Wife had an omelette with ham, veggies, cheese with side of potatoes. We shared a strawberry crepe and each had a vanilla latte. I really do enjoy their lattes and barista is clever with foam designs. Enjoyable experience. I hit the city's bus to trek to south salem and stopped to grab a hot coffee on a rainy day. The cafe was warm, cozy and bustling when I walked in from the rain. My drip coffee and cream came quickly and I chose from several sweeteners before getting to take the first sip. The taste was bold and smooth, just like I like. We came across French Press while visiting with family. We all got a drink and crepe of some sort. I got the dark chocolate and almond iced latte which was the perfect amount of sweetness. My son got a hot chocolate and my daughter got a chai tea latte. Both drank them without teenage angst. I had the plain crepes with a little cinnamon and sugar. They were light and full of flavor, just what I wanted. My son had the Emilee's Love Crepe which in my opinion was way too sweet but my son really enjoyed it. This shop was so rad had a working burning fireplace going. French Press is nice. Overcrowded, a hair overpriced, but nice. The staff can be hit-or-miss, especially in the mornings (I can sympathize, I'm a night owl myself!) but if you want a coffee or some crepes, this isn't a bad choice. I'm just not sure where French Press gets so much hype. The casual, calm ambiance of the stereotypical coffee shop can be found here, but you'll have to dig it out from underneath the turmoil of a subway station at rush hour. The beverages themselves are well-crafted, if not horribly consistent (I've had wildly varying drinks both served as the signature "Jay Brulee" lattee). The crepes are nothing remarkable, but are made fresh and fill the stomach without offending the palate. I've come to French Press before, and I will again, but probably not for conversation or a place to work remotely. The only thing pushing French Press up from a mediocre 3-stars is that they have a drive through that's almost never busy, and is quite fast -- possibly the best option for a morning "fancy coffee" if you're commuting up Commercial. read more

It came out way faster than we expected which we were thankful for because it was a late breakfast. At first when ordering, I was confused and a little distracted because I have mild social anxiety. But the cashier was patient, sweet and very helpful. I explained that I wanted an iced coffee that was sweet and caramel flavored. Not sure what she told the barista, but my coffee was DIVINE. I also ordered the french toast with bananas and strawberries (pretty basic breakfast order) but it was delicious. My boyfriend ordered the Spicy Cowboy Scramble and he absolutely loved it. The flavors were well balanced and everything was cooked to perfection. The restaurant itself was clean, super cute and aesthetic and I loved everything about it. Been here off and on over the years and it has never disappointed. You order your food and/or drink at the counter and you can watch them make your crepe right before your eyes, super fun for kids. The drinks are served at the opposite end from the crepes and then you can pick a table and enjoy. After you bus your table yourself, and they have a station to make it easier, as well as a station for utensils, napkins, water cups and self serve water etc. There is a drive through, typically serving coffee orders, for grab and go in a hurry. The seating is limited but uses the space well. Some tables are next to the fireplace for winter season and others are set up as a bar stool looking out the window. There is also a patio of seating if you want to be outside in the spring through fall with umbrellas and heaters to brave the elements accordingly. The crepes are made in house available for viewing pleasure, entrancing for Littles and neat to see for all ages. The basic filling for fruit crepes is delicious with choices of fruit, whip cream, and nutella etc. The savory crepes are equally good and come with a unique sauce for dipping. There are also other options including omelette, or lunch as well. As for COVID, hardly any precautions are taken. Masks are a choice and gloves are only worn for the staff clearing the self service stations. Which transfers to the door handles as they go in and out. The 2 bathrooms are gender neutral and located across from the register. They get busy in waves but the waves can be intense leaving people no room to sit at times. The orders also get mixed up at times or out of order. We waited 30-45min for our food and it was served to us after the two large families behind our order were served. Second day, food was good, but coffee changed not as great as first day and service changed as well! We felt unwelcome. Both days tipped 25%. I was so nice to staff so not sure what happened! After reading and hearing good things about this place for years, I finally tried it. The lady and I walked up to the counter to order after observing the menu. Based off the lack of interaction with employees up until this point, I had a feeling the service was going to be mediocre. The lady ordered a coffee and the bagel and lox. I am typically not a fan of crepes and usually just like to try a bite of someone else's lol, but I figured I would give this place a shot. The verdict is... I am still not a fan of crepes. The insides were ok, eggs were over cooked and the overall taste wasn't spicy. The sausage was good. The lady tried to bite her bagel and lox, but she said it was hard as a rock, lol. I offered to go say something but she refused. Service was mediocre as I predicted. Food was mediocre. The lady was ok with her coffee. She mentioned it was a little too sweet. However! my smoothie was good. 2 stars for the drinks, I suppose. I must say, later in the evening, the lady was not feeling right and ended up vomiting. The vomit was the same color as the salmon (lox) and she did not have much to eat later in the day besides tater tots and a burger slider.
