Okay, okay, I know that Hummus Republic is a chain BUT I was quite pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the food! This was our first time trying it and it exceeded our expectations. The bowl gave us the perfect opportunity to try a little bit of it all. Staff member was friendly and did not skimp on toppings. We did 1/2 falafel and 1/2 mushrooms for the protein - both SO good. And the zesty feta is a must! The tahini milkshake was the icing on the cake... I'm not ever a fan of milkshakes but WOW - so creamy and delicious without being overly sweet - perfection... just don't look at the calorie count, lol! read more

Yesterday, I was at Long Branch and saw this joint. curious about what it has to offer... is it the same as halal food guys or something else- let's try it- they have 3 options- Wrap PITA or Bowl Bowl does not have a rice option, it has something called couscous - don't know what it was, so did not try. I chose Pita bread - they spread 3 types of Hummuses (I chose Harissa, Tzatziki, and Zesty) with beans, spinach, Chicken Shawarma, toppings (Onions, cabbage, Beets, tomato, etc...), and dressing... you can choose whatever you want out of their spreads, proteins, toppings, hummus - it's cool...mind it- their hat sauce can be really hot. Sweet owners, helping you to choose cause let's accept it, it can be confusing sometimes. Yes, it was so messy while eating - but I loved it. On a busy day, there could be a cleanliness issue - just ignore it. they are trying their best. The portions are generous and very satisfying, and the menu is all very fresh and healthy. We were very disappointed in the hummus we ordered online for takeout. It was thick and served in a container like a scoop of ice cream. Not very flavorful or creamy. They also had outdoor tables to eat--not planning on heading there again. read more

Craving Falafel driving thru Long Branch the Hummus Republic came up on my radar. Picture a chipotle type setup for Salads and Middle Eastern specialties. You can choose a plate, Salad, wrap or Pita as your vessel for your Protein and Vegetables. Several dips, dressings are offered. The falafel was cooked nicely, the hummus was flavorful as was salads and vegetables. I would have liked the pita to be hot as it was lukewarm. For $10 you receive a solid portion of fillings. Small place on Ocean Ave. Noticed rodent droppings in the corner and to top it off, had a long black hair in the food. Staff was not friendly. Too many options around to waste money on dry food and a dirty place. Stay away. read more

This place is a great addition to the restaurants at Long Branch beach. Think Chipotle but Mediterranean! You choose between a pita, wrap, or bowl (listed from cheapest to most expensive), a base (cous cous, chickpeas, or 50/50), a protein (chicken shawarma, lemon chicken, falafel, or mushroom shawarma), and then a wide selection of unlimited toppings. I was pleasantly surprised by the mushroom shawarma and the lemon chicken was great! I tried the chicken shawarma my boyfriend got and that was tasty too. They have so many types of hummus and toppings to choose from so you can really customize your order however you want. I will say the portions are LARGE, I think I would've been content sharing one bowl with someone else and had trouble finishing my portion alone. It's a great value for the price!! Bowls cost a little over $10 and they could easily be charging more for the quantity of food they give you. The bowl comes with a pita on the side (no extra charge). They also have a selection of lemonades (regular, strawberry, pomegranate, ginger turmeric). I enjoyed the strawberry lemonade, very refreshing. Also their bathroom is very clean! Very tasty and filling food, especially near the beach where it's usually burger and fries for days! I got a little overly ambitious with unlimited toppings in my "Build Your Own Pita" but I really appreciated how they didn't skimp on any of my ingredients. I got the roasted veggies as my base and wish I'd chosen that or the fried eggplant because the portion was huge and made my wrap very oily. Me and my family were looking to try something new and came across this place in Long Branch. The atmosphere was so pleasant, the staff was friendly and the food was fresh. As a vegetarian, I always find it difficult to try new places and was little hesitant but after trying their food, there was no looking back. There were plenty of options to make everyone happy. This is a nice place with a large selection of Mediterranean food served as a bowl, pita, or wrap. I tried the lemon chicken in a bowl of beans and topped with several of the selections available of hummus, veggies, cheeses, and sauce. Disappointing! I had a certain expectation for the price point, but the food was bland and dry. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt and not leave a review until I gave it another shot. So now another month later, here I am. The place was dirty both times and I was willing to look past that if the food was at least mediocre, but nope they just couldn't hit the right notes unfortunately. The staff was also not friendly when I just asked a simple question of what's their most popular item. Hard pass! There are plenty of other nice options nearby, so i definitely won't be wasting anymore money and time at this place. read more

Ok since my discovery of this place at the beginning of the beach season - I've been here every time I'm at Long Branch beach. While I don't live in the state it's only about an hour and a half drive for me so I try to go quite a bit. Not only is this place a great find it's been consistently good! My first experience here I got the wrap and can I just say it was a MONSTER sized wrap! Good thing it was chock full of great heathy food. Then my second visit I discovered the bowl!! Been getting that one ever since. So what exactly is hummus republic you may be asking if you've never been? Conceptually it's like a Chipotle where you order and choose your ingredients to make up your bowl/or wrap. The best part is there's so many options to choose from and the bad is that there's so many to choose from. How does one not decide to pick everything? It all looks really good and for the most part all fairly good or you! Fairly bc I think if you add the dressing that takes away from the healthiness factor and of course if you load up your bowl there's that. I know my eyes are always bigger than my stomach too! I know I'm going on endlessly about this place but it's really tasty and not to be missed! Here's the deal ... you can choose 3 scoops of different variations of hummus, veggies, proteins and the toppings! Can I just say toppings - go for the seasoned fried chickpeas (ok yes fried not so healthy). Kale w/pomegranate- yum!!! One of the best places for meditterean bowls in the area. So good. The lemon chicken literally came off the grill and was piping hot. The spicy feta added a nice touch. You can order all sorts of toppings and everything is fresh. The organic couscous was the perfect vehicle for the bowl. I just felt healthier eating it. I also liked the pita chips since they looked and tasted homemade. I don't give 5 stars easily but this one hit the mark. read more

Very satisfying generous meal. I was at first skeptical as it seemed to me to be a pseudo middle-eastern kitchen catering to American clientele, but I loved it so much I kept coming here on every beach visit since discovering it. It is not a fancy restaurant but one styled after the Piology/Blaze Pizza or any other 'Make -your-own' place. The danger in that that the customer is free to concoct any God awful combination if they don't know better. The upside is of course you can have things exactly as you like, but you kinda need to know what you are doing. Most commonly relying on the hired staff to provide culinary combination advice is often a losing strategy as they don't necessarily know the cuisine as a person native to the region of cuisine would. I would recommend reading up on some menus, watching some YouTube videos obout the food, or visiting with a friend familiar with the dishes so you don't end up with a falafel drowned in Alfredo sauce with guacamole typing and Parmigiano on top. All in all the best deal are the bowls and the portions are generous. The food is fresh and well prepared and the experience very satisfying. Go and enjoy yourself, don't settle for a pretentious mediocre restaurant just because you are at the beach. Take your culinary experience into your own hands! read more

Love this place! Hummus Republic has become our family's "go-to" food spot on our weekly beach visits to Long Branch! I've been in about 4 times now and with each visit I get to try something new. I love being able to build my own bowl and the variety that it offers. Finally got to try the Earth burger and it is my new favorite! The staff was great! Delicious chicken shawarma, crunchy and flavorful falafel, tasty dips, fresh veggies. I can't begin to describe how happy I am that I stumbled upon this place. We both chose falafel balls as our protein and they were bursting with flavor. We added 3 different hummus flavors and topped the masterpiece with tzatziki. I tried the falafel sandwich with hummus and it was bland and dry with a lack of seasoning. The staff also refused to give me tap water and told me I had to buy their bottled water. The reviews for this place is puzzling and it only shows that people do not know what good Syrian/Lebanese food is. I really didn't appreciate the attitude, especially after I had spent about $60 on 2 items and a lot of time traveling to the area. The menu is amazing, but the convenience and accessibility of getting food here is so difficult that I probably won't be back for some time, unfortunately; thus the 3 stars (food is 5 stars for sure).
