I was on a road trip and we were all a little hungry so we stopped here. The service was friendly to us and looked like a general pub which was nice in the heat of March Madness. On a Memorial Day weekend getaway with my five good pals, we were desperate for some Vermont cuisine. Lucky for us, a short drive away from our Airbnb lay the Hungry Bear Pub & Grill. The six hungry bears in our party crawled our way into the ambiance of this local joint, we were swiftly greeted by the cheery Casey at our service. I ordered a bubbly Coke and the French Dip. Everything was wonderful. The only thing we got disappointed in was that the chicken chunks we got the apple bourbon marinade and I just didn't like them. They were too dry. I'm not sure if it's because it wasn't enough marinade on it or maybe it was a little too cooked. I'm not positive but everything else was amazing. We were in town for a wedding and we're looking for someplace for a good burger and everybody recommended them. So we drove another 10 minutes past our B&B so the next exit the service name was Alicia she was wonderful. Explain things that we needed to know what the different things were of the different seasonings and stuff. We ended up getting two drinks and then we got the nuggets like I said the chunks we didn't like them and that was fine. Eventually she took it off the bill, which was OK which is not what we expected. We just figured let it go. Then I had the apple bourbon bacon burger with thick, cut, bacon, fresh, sliced apples on top, and it was cooked to perfection. The sweet potato fries were amazing. There was so much food. I couldn't finish it and bringing the other half of it home. My other half had the steak bomb sub which might have a different name to it. I'm not sure, but it was very filling as well like he couldn't even finish it. He had to leave part of the role behind but he did finish his french fries and all the steak and he did eat some of the roll but he's like I can't. I can't do anymore I am so full. Left no room for dessert even though there's a lot tempting desserts there trust me it was very hard to say no. We would recommend this place for anyone that is looking for a good burger in the area of Bradford Fairlee Vermont. Thanks again for a wonderful time everyone they also have indoor and outdoor seating. We were lucky we got one of the last inside tables and it was worth it. We can watch the game and stuff on the TV sets and everyone was friendly is a local place. The food is really good here. The variety of what they serve is pretty wide. Prices are decent. It can be a bit loud on Friday and Saturday nights and service can be a little slow. This is not the fault of the dedicated and very overworked servers. When a table opens up, they have to clear off and clean their own tables. It's a lot to do when the place is crowded. read more

Been seeing a lot of hate on the timeline for Hungry Bear Pub & Grill and I absolutely need to dispute the slanderous claims. As soon as I walked in, I was struck by the wonderful homely ambience. We were quickly greeted by our wonderful server, Casey, who was just a delight to have waiting our table. I was incredibly impressed with the wide variety of beers on tap- I got a Fiddlehead IPA, and it came out cold, foamy and delicious. I got the pretzels and beer cheese as an appetizer- absolutely spectacular. The beer cheese heightened my spirits and impressed my senses. The fish & chips were perfectly flaky and crunchy, it was simply excellent. I have no complaints with my experience at the Hungry Bear Pub & Grill. 5 stars! read more

Tasty beef, choice of toppings ( yeah guacamole) and some of the best sweet potatoes fries I've had ( crisp, but not over done). Stopped in here as we were camping in the area. I had the salmon and my friend had the haddock sandwich. Both were prepared well and reasonably priced. I sat at the bar where there are a few two toppers and the bar seats. There is regular restaurant seating next to that and in another large room. Had a margarita (it was fine) and some carne asada tacos. They were filled with some spiced hamburger mixture. They were tasty but nothing special. It came with some tortilla chips on the side. The bartender was friendly enough and service was quick and with a smile. It was midafternoon so the place wasn't filled with a nighttime crowd but I liked the overall vibe of the place. I would say mostly locals but I don't know. It's not far off of Rt91 so it is convenient. There are not a lot of signage besides at the restaurant itself so you have to kind of find it on your own. I'll be going back to try something else. I'd give it a 'worth a try' rating. Nothing bad on this first trip but nothing really outstanding, either. I'm thinking they are keeping some gems up their sleeves, and we just have to find them. read more

The hungry bear is a interesting restaurant it is not my first choice of a place to eat but it's not terrible. The food is good portions but some of the meals can be a little overkill. When I say over kill I mean it can be a bit much like they try to hard to make the food look fancy over making it taste good. The service here isn't terrible either I have yet to have a bad experience with the service but it is certainly not anything special. The ambiance is good it's a small pub so it's a little crowded but if you like a place where you can watch a ball game it's your place. I give this place a 3 it has potential and could be a bit better but overall not my ideal place to go, I would recommend someone trying it if there interested! read more

We were visiting from out of town and from start to finish this place blew me and my fiancée away. We started with the poutine made with hand cut fries and authentic cheese curds, then had two perfectly cooked burgers that made our mouths water. We were looking for a lunch spot on our drive and this popped up on yelp with good reviews. Our experience did not live up to the expectations. My fiancee got jumbo wings with lime chipotle sauce and I got a burger. The food took a long time to come out and maybe wasn't worh that wait. My burger was pretty average. The wings were not what we would call jumbo and the sauce wasn't too impressive. The fries were similar to cafeteria quality. The worst part was that there were flies in that section of the restaurant. I don't know the food scene in this area well but it would not be on my list of places to return to. read more

This is simply a great little local bar. The staff is super friendly and they make you feel like family. For a semi dive bar the food is fantastic. Great wings of course but who would think that hey also have great spinach, apple and blue cheese salad and they also make a really good Caesar. But this is also a sports bar with lots of screens and the NFL package so they have all the NFL games on every Sunday. Don't be put off by the behind the gas station location, just go in and meet the friendly staff and enjoy a selection off the good tap list and some really good food. read more

I wish you could rate a restaurant a zero because I honestly have no idea how their food can get any worse. First off, the service is horrible. Which made us ONLY get take out. Second, every time you call for take out the server can't hear you on the phone then gets mad at you because you're "not speaking loud enough for them to hear", on top of the fact they'll have full conversations with the people at the bar while being on the phone when you're trying to order. Third, their kitchen staff obviously doesn't care what quality they put out for the food because its HORRIBLE. We keep giving them "second chances" hoping they improved since they've been putting money into their atmosphere but the food just keeps getting worse and worse. Lastly when you go into the restaurant to pick up your take out, they will walk by you multiple times, ignoring the fact you're CLEARLY standing there waiting to just pay for your food and leave. Always a horrible experience. Always disappointed. Won't be making that mistake again. It's pretty bad when you set up yelp just to post how bad one restaurant is. Ok, I have eaten at restaurants around the northern hemisphere. NEVER before was I charged for a coffee refill because I switched from regular to decaf. Seriously, a buck eighty five for 6 ounces of lukewarm coffee? The fish was an over cooked slab straight out of a Sysco bag. In all fairness the coleslaw was actually spot on! My friend and I came in at 11:50 on a snowy winter Saturday, and we were in and out by 12:30 if we wanted to be. (But we stuck around for a bit, because we could.) No issues with service. They had a few specials so I had the lobster bisque and their special cake. The bisque was meh, it was creamy with a sherry touch but lacked significant chunks of lobster, just tiny shreds dotted throughout. The cake was delicious but a tad overpriced. I had a rather small appetite that morning so no issues there. I forget what my friend ordered, but it looked quite good. A few good beers on tap to go with the normal ones, which was also nice. I feel like this is another 3.5-star place. In this case, I'm rounding up because of the location. Not a whole lot else around Bradford; if this is where your hunger pangs kick in, Hungry Bear is probably your best bet. read more

It's about a 2.5 star place. Food is mediocre, but filling. Not bad, just not a destination restaurant. Lunch took 30 minutes. That's too long. I liked the bar/restaurant atmosphere and the big screen tv, which was at the bar, but didnt interfere with the dining room, perfect. Service was ok, not great, but friendly and fine. So its not a great place, not the worst. If you're hungry and need to fill your tank, it'll do the job, just don;t expect gourmet. The bar seems like a good bet, it was busy on a weekday. read more
