It was my first visit here and I was really looking forward to it because I heard such good things about it. It's located in the basement of the historic Cavalier Hotel which is absolutely gorgeous. Valet parking and they charge you $7 and if you pay through the app, it's additional $1.25 service charge. Like they aren't charging you enough for the food, now you have to pay for parking too. Let's not forget the tip for the valet guy too (deserved). The atmosphere is like a man's cave. Dark and like the name, "hunt" decorated. When you enter there are overstuffed leather sofas in front of a fireplace. Tons of photos of animals as well as taxidermy animals. Everything relating to hunting. The place was rather loud with a few large parties. To the point that my guest and I couldn't even hear each other. Once they left, it was nice and quiet, unfortunately, we were about to leave as well. I was told it's best to make a reservation, so I did through open table but I don't think it was needed at the time of our off-peak visit (3.16.2026). Service was great. The waiter kept returning to see if we needed anything and how the food was. It was our first time trying the Oysters Rockefeller ($18 for 6) which is Half Shell Oysters stuffed with a creamy spinach and applewood smoked bacon which were good. At this time, I had nothing to compare them to, but 2 days later, I had them at The Atlantic on Pacific and those were SO MUCH BETTER! A lot cheaper too during happy hour. I had the Filet Mignon ($49) - Garlic and Herb whipped Potatoes, Roasted Broccolini, Tarnished Truth Steak Sauce and Sauteed Mushrooms (I'm allergic to Mushrooms so I had them on the side for my guest to enjoy them). Very good meal. The Tarnished Truth Steak Sauce is so yummy, I could drink it. Complimented the Filet Mignon and the potatoes so well. The broccolini was also delicious. For dessert I got the Smore's Brownie ($10). It was more like a chocolate cake with marshmallow, Caramel and Chocolate Sauce and Vanilla Ice Cream. It was not worth the money or the calories. Pretty tasteless. You need walnuts in a Brownie or it's just chocolate cake. I had gotten a Reuben sandwich ($18) to go and it was very fatty like bacon. Unfortunately, it was a waste of money because more than half of it went in the garbage due to it being so fatty. I felt the place was rather pricey and if you are just dining there, I do feel the valet parking should be free or reimbursed by the restaurant (i.e. take the charge off the bill). This is located in the stunning and historic Cavalier Hotel. Visit was on 3/16/26. Service was very good! The atmosphere was like a dark mix of your grandfathers and his hip grandsons hangout. If you aren't into hunting I suggest you don't dine here. There are animal taxidermy through out the dinning room and tavern. Overstuffed leather sofas around a huge wood burning fireplace. We are visiting the area and it peaked our interest. We did have reservations, although it wasn't busy enough that it was needed although it could be at times. There were a few larger parties and it was rather loud. We started with the Oysters Rockefeller, (6 half shell/$18) baked with bacon and a creamy spinach filling with cheese sealing the deal. A bit on the overdone side with a very crunchy topping. Good flavor. I also tried the wedge with candied bacon and tomatoes and a delicious smoked blue cheese dressing. I chose the Braised Short Rib French Dip handheld with truffle fries and au jus for dipping. Although great tasting, I felt it was a bit on the skimpy side portion wise for the price ($25). My dining companion opted for the Filet and was happy with that and the accompanying sides. We took a Reuben sandwich to go and it was disappointing, very fatty like a corned beef "bacon". My husband and I were staying at the Cavalier Resort and wanted to try this place as our anniversary dinner - highly recommend making reservations. The interior looked interesting and it started "popping" around 6PM. Our server was fantastic. On point with checking in on us and being so friendly. For starters we decided on the Truffle Fried Poutine - Black Pepper Gravy, Shredded Cheddar Cheese, Fried Pungo Farm Egg. It was very tasty and most likely better to share with a group of people - it was a lot. For the main course, my husband got the Pan Roasted Venison Loin (Pan Roasted Venison Loin, Garlic and Herb Whipped Potatoes, Roasted Broccolini, Green Peppercorn Demi-Glace) and I choose the Roast Duck (Half Roast Duck, Sweet Potato Puree, Wilted Beet Greens, "Old Fashion" Demi-Glace). It's a cozy spot in the basement of the Cavalier Hotel that invites visitors in and wants to stay. We came for a late lunch and enjoyed some incredible burgers and chicken. The Tarnished Truth bourbon with a tiny splash of water is world class. The fireplace is the focus of the room and legend says it where Nixon burned the Whitehouse recordings. One with Brussels and the other with broccolini. The burger was a greasy overly cheesy mess. It came with a lonely pickle and no lettuce or other vege. Bacon was good. The Rubin was surprisingly fatty and also greasy. Would recommend that folks order the shrimp or Game hen if they want to try this restaurant. (That's what we ordered on our last visit) A quick note about the noise level- The restaurant was not even full but I could not hear half of what my wife was saying. Never got to actually dine here tried calling the restaurant several times over several hours with absolutely no response or call back. Walked to the restaurant and stood in line at the host station. Several team members walked by without acknowledging us at all. Finally a person greeted us only to tell us they had no availability and that you have to call ahead to reserve. I laughed it off and we moved on. I was in town on business and what this place is trying to be is not what they will ever be. It's one thing to try to be exclusive it's another thing to be disrespectful and off putting. For the reputation this place has, I thought it would be better. My family and I only came here for drinks and dessert. So, granted it's not as if I had a full experience it had to offer food wise. We ordered our drinks and got them fairly soon after. I had gotten The Whole Truth bourbon flight, and it was definitely a good burn. More in depth flavors than ones you get at the ABC. My favorite was surprisingly the moonshine. It was really clean and went down very easy. It was almost like alcoholic water, if that makes any sense whatsoever. It wasn't hard on the throat and didn't have much flavor. Their bourbon and high rye were just a tad much for me. I haven't had bourbon in a while, so maybe that's why. The finishing glass of cream was a good touch though. Definitely needed something to help sooth my throat at the end. At first it tasted like a very alcoholic cream, but as my taste was cleansed more, it was nice. It tasted of marshmallows and butterscotch and was quit smooth. As for the dessert part, I had ordered their chocolate lava cake. I must say, this was so disappointing. As a chocolate lava cake lover, this was not that. Looks wise, it was pretty. Cute little cake with chocolate ganache dripping down it topped with a glob of ice cream and drizzled with raspberry sauce and more chocolate. But, it was literally an overcooked bundt cake with chocolate filling the hole and a wad of flavorless ice cream drizzled with not enough raspberry sauce. I wish it was something amazing but it really was just lame. The cake was light, overcooked, and not chocolatey enough. The fact that it wasn't even filled with chocolate just invalidates its name entirely. Chocolate lava cake is supposed to be rich in flavor, and moist because it's undercooked in the center, because the center is supposed to have the ooey gooey lava. I just think they should rename it or actually start making it properly if they're gonna call it lava cake is all. As for the ice cream. "Vanilla bean" my butt. That was straight up milk in ice cream form. It had no flavor, not even a hint of vanilla. At least it somewhat works considering it's accompanying a chocolate item, balance of flavors and all. I just was really surprised. If you're gonna call it vanilla bean and not have vanilla bean in it, what are you even doing? There were no specs, no flavor, again just disappointed. The raspberry sauce was quite nice however. Had good flavor, but there wasn't that much on there. You couldn't taste it really unless you got some alone on your spoon. Our waitress was great, very nice and helpful. I don't have much to say about the staff, they are pleasant and do their job well. I just don't know how I feel about the food. If the kitchen can't make a simple dessert, then how good is the rest of everything? It's not as if it's a cheap place. I suppose I'll come here to try their food sometime later than sooner to see how good it is since it did sound appetizing on paper. But, I don't have high expectations. read more

We were celebrating our 45th Wedding Anniversary, so my wife and I decided on the Hunt Room. Located in the basement of the stunning and historic old Cavalier Hotel. Valet parking at the Cavalier - which I like. I don't have to hassle with parking, a set price of $7.00 plus tip to the Valet. Just part of the ambiance of the hotel. The Hunt Room's atmosphere is you Dad's old hunt club vibe. Pictures of animals, stuffed birds and deer heads on the walls, Leather couch and chairs around a fireplace, and warm wood paneling and low lighting. Very comfortable. Our waitress was awesome in every respect. She asked the right questions, made great wine recommendations. Her timing was perfect, very quick and efficient, and very personable. She was wonderful. We started with sharing the four Reuben Egg Rolls with Russian dressing appetizer. Crispy flaky crust with delicious Reuben meat inside dipping into enjoyable Russian dressing. We ordered salads and our waitress asked small or large. Once she explained the difference, small Wedge for me and a small Pickled Beet Salad. Both were excellence. For comparison, the large salads are a meal unto themselves. My wife decided on the Wild Mushroom Risotto for her entrée. A very generous bowl of rice, wild mushrooms, and peas in a creamy garlic sauce. She loved it. My wife could only eat half of it; the rest came home in a doggy bag. I had the pan roasted venison loin. Two big medallions cooked medium rare, laying on a bed of creamy garlic mashed potatoes and peppercorn demi-glace with roasted Broccolini cooked just right, wilted with some crunch still left in them. We both really enjoyed our dishes and highly recommend both dishes! We finished with some nice hot decaf coffee and shared the creamy delicious Bourbon Apple cheesecake and the warm Upside-Down brown butter cake which is suppose to come with mango sorbet. I came here for HH before dinner at the Becca. It's downstairs near the gift shop. It's very dark inside with a fireplace, leather couches and animals on the walls. Very manly. I saw lots of business men in suits.....I can totally see deals being made here. :) Highly recommend making a reservation. We sat at the bar and the bartender took very good care of us. I think his name was Dylan. We ordered the spinach dip. There was a lot and it was served with pita bread. It was very creamy but needed more flavor. And the dip to chip ratio was way off. They need to give you less dip or more pitas. I was also surprised because the HH menu was the same as last time I was here. I think it's important to change up the menu with new items. Maybe some steak bites or tuna bites. They also had a pretzel with cheese and candied bacon and a flatbread. All $7. Make reservations! We ate here two nights in a row over Christmas weekend since we were staying at The Cavalier. The first night we did big entrees and dessert and the second night we were each full from just appetizers. First night Husband had to try the smoked Old Fashioned that the Tarnished Truth folks had told us about. It was really good, but he's had slightly better elsewhere. I had the Lobster Mac & Cheese and he had the Pork Ribeye. The Pork was outstanding! The Lobster dish was good, the tomatoes in it made it a bit runny. I was definitely coveting his pork after tasting it. We shared a dessert special of Struffoli with ice cream. Neither of us were jumping up and down over it. They had a strange texture, were not sweet at all, and just not much flavor. The next night Husband got the Reuben Egg Rolls which were delicious, but a bit greasy. He loved them. I got the Chicken Lollipops which were no big thrill. They didn't taste totally fresh. Certainly edible, but I wished I had ordered differently. Dessert this time was killer though...a smore's brownie. Service both nights was very good. Ambiance is nice. Such a unique place to visit. Inside the Cavalier hotel, you make your way through the neighborhood to a lovely layout to enter the hotel. It feels grand and welcoming but also, a feeling you are about to spend a few dollars! You go through the main entrance spiraling down some stairs towards the Hunt Room. I will say the feeling was a bit eerie but at the same time, very cool and exciting to see what is next. Once inside, you'll immediately notice the impressive, wood-burning fireplace, accompanied by comfortable couches where you can unwind or wait for your table. The right side of the restaurant provides a perfect ambiance for enjoying your meal, while the left side, which houses the bar, offers a slightly more vibrant atmosphere. The overall design features dark wood and a masculine aesthetic, complemented by the smokey aroma of cocktails being crafted by the mixologists. This setting, is ideal for a romantic evening or a casual night out, tailored to your preferences. We usually order a few drinks and some appetizers, so I can't offer a firsthand account of the main courses. However, based on appearances, everything I've seen looks delicious, and I can confidently endorse the appetizers, especially the Brussels sprouts, which I found truly to be "the bomb"! One thing I didn't like was the Valet experience. Although I get it, it felt a bit forced and almost irritating to get your car. It felt if you didn't give them what they wanted, you would have to go to battle getting your own car. I let that slide and I guess par to a place of this nature but be aware of that. Don't lose your ticket, have cash or make sure that is accounted for otherwise, you may be outside having words flying back and forth lol. I remember in the prior iteration of the hotel, the hunt room was the place to go for a meal that took forever and was just ok, but the vibe was worth it. I think that's about what we are working with now, except of course with crowds instead of a mostly empty hotel. After an hour and a half with no drink refills or check in from our server (and several walk breaks for my wiggly kid), I asked how dinner was coming and found out our ticket didn't fire to the kitchen. I was assured that they would get it out asap and offered a free dessert which I declined since my quarter was already up with my kid and bedtime approached. I then flagged our waiter down again for the first refill of my drink since we had sat down 2 hour prior and 10 minutes after that when someone else's food came out I just told my husband to box it up and left. I'm not sure I can accurately judge my food since it was cold by the time I was able to eat it but the duck was tough and my husband's steak was over cooked. As always, the fried shrimp were awesome and I'm glad we got them as an appetizer, and our waiter was trying to be nice about the whole thing just maybe over assigned or something. They venue is nice, it's got a cellar/basement style, which is fitting considering the location of it. Menu is typical pub fare and the kitchen's execution of the menu was great. The Oysters Rockefeller were outstanding--fresh, flavorful, and absolutely mouthwatering. We could have easily ordered dozens more. The Reuben and Mac & Cheese arrived hot, well-plated, and generously portioned. My husband loved his Reuben--classic, filling, and full of flavor. I really enjoyed my Lobster Mac & Cheese, though I probably wouldn't order it again just for myself. It was rich and decadent, as expected, but a bit too heavy for one person. It's a great dish to share! For dessert, the S'mores Brownie was served warm with freshly scooped ice cream. While the s'mores flavors were there, it sometimes just felt like a brownie with ice cream and separate bites of marshmallow rather than a cohesive dessert. As soon as you walk into this restaurant you're taken into what feels like someone's home that's dimly lit, with a leather couch in the middle, a fireplace inside a mantle, with animals that they hunted as decorations. It's a smaller restaurant, but definitely cozy. We did not make reservations and when we went in to ask to be seated, they told us that half of the restaurant is first come first serve and you see yourself and the other half is reservation only. We spotted a cute little table just for two people that had a glass window facing the tarnished truth distillery, and snagged it up! Earle was our server and he went above and beyond service wise! He was friendly, quick, and kind. Definitely got lucky with him as our server!!! The menu was pretty small which I tend to like smaller menus because I feel like the food is better quality. Husband and I ordered the fish and chips entree for our appetizer to share, and when it arrived it came split into two orders and we didn't even ask! So each of us got one piece of fish and some french fries in our own little basket! How thoughtful and appreciated! The entree comes with two batter fried fish, fries, a tiny coleslaw, tartar sauce, ketchup and a lemon wedge! Everything tasted delicious. I was a bit sad that the fried fish were kinda small from what I typically see from other places. Definitely glad that I ordered it as an appetizer and not an entrée because two small pieces of fried fish would not have filled me up as a main meal. For the main meal, the husband ordered the Cavalier burger, and I ordered the Reuben sandwich. I love me a good Reuben, especially with extra sauerkraut!!! This Ruben did not disappoint. It was perfectly toasted, creamy from the cheese and the sauce, meaty and rich. I would definitely order it again! The Cavalier burger is a fat half pound burger that was cooked perfectly to medium well, covered with cheese, grilled onions, beautiful, and barbecue sauce. My husband and I made reservations for Valentine's Day. We were seated promptly in a booth that we had requested. Great start to things! The server was not very attentive. Water was empty several times. We waved down other staff members to assist. It was a quiet space, dark and romantic. Food was incredibly salty. I was unfortunately not impressed. My salad had so much dressing, I couldn't even finish it. I truly wanted to love this place, but I was not thrilled. We asked the server about some beverages, and he was very short with us. We arrived early (purposefully) so we could have a drink at the bar. We really enjoyed our interactions with the bartender and watching them make lots of smoked old fashioneds as well as other cocktails. I had an Aperol Spritz and my husband had a smoked old fashioned which he loved. The ambiance is very cool. Like an old English pub with lots of water fowl taxidermy. The fireplace is massive and beautiful when roaring in the middle of the room. It was well tended throughout the evening and definitely a feature piece. After our drink, we moved to our table and we were immediately impressed with our server. He was friendly, quick and attentive. We ordered our drinks and food and relaxed a bit. My husband had the venison which he said was cooked perfectly. I opted for the fantail shrimp appetizer since I knew the main plate would be too much food for me. We also ordered the Brussels sprouts which were like eating candy. Oh my! It was our anniversary and the waiter informed us we could pick a complimentary dessert. The ambiance is nice. A cozy tavern with a hunting lodge vibe. Lots of taxidermy on the walls, and a huge fireplace is in the middle with couches for enjoying conversation and drinks. The dinner area is beside that. We were seated against the far wall. I don't wear glasses, but I had to use my phone flashlight to see the menu. The rest of the dining area was not as dark. I've been in there several times and never noticed how dark it was in our section. It was full, so moving to another table was not an option. Our server, Casey, was wonderful; she took the drink and dinner orders, offered recommendations, all with a smile. We ordered the pork ribeye, basted in bourbon glaze ($31.00) as recommended, and it was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Served with a generous amount of roasted potatoes and their Brussels. Some of the best. We also ordered the two crab cake dinner. It was also just as wonderful. We are picky when it comes to crab cakes. These are very good with minimal filler, a lot of crab meat. I wondered about the pricing. The one crabcake dinner was $23.00, and a second crab cake was an additional $16.00? Wow. The food was all delicious and I would come back again. We are local and often come during the winter and sit at the bar. The bar menu is great too, and so are the whiskey cocktails. Don't leave without trying the Smoked Old Fashioned.There is a distillery on the premises, and you can see the large vats through the glass window in the restaurant. We enjoy coming here, along with the overall Cavalier experience. The recently restored Cavalier Hotel is amazing and a destination in itself, 4 1/2 stars only because of the poor lighting. 5 stars all of the other times we've been. read more

The ambiance is fantastic. The service is not that great. When sitting at the bar the bartender seemed to want to talk with his friends instead of the patrons. There are limited options when staying at the hotel so went back to order dinner to go. Ordered the grilled pork and fish and chips. Both were extremely salty and left us needing water. The next time ordered grilled shrimp and carrots. Awful is the best way to describe it. The shrimp was chard and rubbery and the carrots to sweet. Another for being hard to find - not obvious from the web site that they are in the basement of The Cavalier and no prominent signage to lead you from the entrance to the delightfully moody corner of the property. Pro-Tip: Schedule the 3pm tour at Tarnished Truth then go to The Hunt Room right after for Happy Hour followed by dinner! Dining at The Hunt Room is a one of a kind experience you're sure to remember long after the meal is over. The decor is so unique and full of history. The fireplace is gorgeous and the stuffed animals above the mantle are so funny arranged to be playing games. They open at 4, but dinner doesn't start until 5, so we started with happy hour appetizers and drinks. The "chicken lollipops" are just the drumstick part of chicken wings with the meat at the top removed to create a lollipop handle. They were delicious though, and we loved the BBQ sauce on them; however they were a bit expensive for wings with some meat removed. When dinner began, we ordered some entrees off the main menu. All of the food was excellent, but the standout item of the evening was the Brussels sprouts - and this coming from someone who doesn't like veggies much! Wow! Definitely get them with your meal or as an appetizer. I was blown away with the flavor. They have a great drink menu and dessert menu as well. I highly recommend the cheesecake. The crust is made with spent grain from the distillery in the hotel, and it's bursting with apple flavor and creamy goodness. read more
