I came to Saint Augustine on the worst night possible - the Fourth of July. Of course the place was packed and swarming with people in the oldest city in the country. After the extravagant fireworks show, we decided to give Hyppo a try. We walked in at around 9:50 pm and the line was just at the door (given this place is really small, so it wasn't too bad). It went so quickly because they have three freezers with three employees helping you learn about all the flavors inside (and someone separate to ring you out). I opted for a coconut pistachio bar with nothing on it. I like simplistic... And if your pops are good, they should speak for themselves. My hubby got a strawberry which he didn't end up liking because he likes "fake strawberry" flavor not real, fresh strawberry (so others may thoroughly enjoy it). I loved my coconut pistachio bar and would recommend it to anyone! It was creamy, smooth and decadent. I would go back for many more flavors. They had a sweet potato flavor that was supposed to taste like sweet potato pie and another that was blueberry cinnamon. Which I love cinnamon. They actually sell their pops online as collections. I see they are $40 for 12. So that comes out to $3.33 per pop. Not bad. Especially when HipPops is selling their pops for $5 a pop. read more

You may ask how a Popsicle could be gourmet, well look no further than Hyppo Pops. Made we real, whole, fresh ingredients they are hard to beat on a hot day. I'm talking fancy flavors including champagne peach, and the "Black Goat" which is blackberries with goat cheese. Simple flavors like Straight Up Strawberry (which is delicious dipped in chocolate by the way) or Key Lime Pie. You can have any of them dipped for an extra $1 or 2. These pops aren't cheap but they are well worth it, think about how much you'd spend for a bowl at a homemade ice cream parlor. Just cause it's a Popsicle doesn't mean it's not worth it! My favorite by far is the Strawberry Basil Pop. If they have it the day you go you MUST try it .....your mouth will wonder how anything could taste that could with such an interesting combo. Very homey and eclectic kind of place, and the selections they have are very unique -- the night I went, they had mexican hot chocolate, cilantro pineapple, sangria pear, and chipotle pineapple just to name a few. I ended up going for the chipotle pineapple, and it had the nice sweet and spicy sensation you would expect to have -- with every lick of the popsicle you get a bit a tingling sensation on your tongue, and with every bite you can feel some heat that lasts even when the popsicle is done. Only downsides I can think of is it's $3.50 per popsicle, but the flavor combinations and execution make it completely worth it. read more

Let me start off by saying, this place is adorable inside and out! I got the avocado coconut Popsicle dipped in chocolate, which was surprisingly sweet but the flavors were incredible. It had a nice hint of avocado but the coconut really helped the flavors pop. My boyfriend got the strawberry Datil pepper Popsicle, which I tried. I really like the freshness of the fruit and the pepper kick was only there for a second. My boyfriend loved it and wasn't expecting it to be spicy but ended up liking it even more because of how spicy it was. I really enjoyed both, and we will definitely be going back before our trip to St. Augustine is over. They have a huge selection so I don't see myself having any issue finding another Popsicle that I will like. When it comes to price, I personally don't think that $3.50 for a Popsicle that is gmo-free, all natural, and made from organic fruits is too expensive. If rather pay for the quality and healthiness instead of a sugar filled Popsicle that may lack in flavor. Because the ingredients aren't fresh. read more

Husband & I noticed this shop during a trolley tour so we decided to make a point of getting back there. We LOVE ice cream & frozen treats of all kinds. SOOO GLAD we did! AMAZING! Came here last night for the first time, late in the evening during a walk around downtown with some out-of-town relatives. I've been iffy about this place since this used to be the home of Claude's Chocolate, which is made of magic, but which has moved to a new spot by the Casa Monica. In any case, going up the few steep steps and into the frigid A/C (it was steamy hot last night, the A/C was a beautiful change) I was pleasantly surprised at what I found! The place is bright and clean, with witty chalk-written menu boards and a plethora of interestingly flavored gourmet popsicles. Steven, the owner, said that all of the pops are made with real fruit and almost nothing else, which I'm all about. I got the Champagne Mango (which was delicious), my cousin and my dad got Key Lime (delicious), my aunt got Honey Pear (delicious), and my grandma got Peach (you guessed it, delicious). Suffice to say, I'm going to trust the fact that all of the flavors are going to be pretty killer. Not only that, we got a locals discount, which is always fantastic. Take care of locals and Flagler College students, and they will definitely take care of you. This place is fantastic, it's a good replacement for Claude's and will definitely become one of my new favorite places downtown. read more

Fun flavors. Priced at $3.50 for a popsicle (even in a tourist town) was a bit daunting and my mind began to question do I really want a popsicle for an after-dinner sweet-tooth fix this but fellow Yelpers have never let us down so in we went. The flavors to choose from numerous and were all innovative, charming, or classic. However, when the college student behind the counter told me how the owner uses local ingredients and his flavors change with Florida's "seasons" and everything is truly made from scratch I was sold. We tried the Cilantro Lime and the Blueberry Clove, though it was a tough decision between that and the Strawberry Datil (local hot pepper) and the Mango one they had. Both of our pops had great texture and truly lived up to their names in terms of flavor. The size of the popsicles were a little large to stay with the same flavor (all that clove was a bit much as an after-dinner treat) so my husband and I traded off and that made our experience more fun! So glad we chose this place rather than the run-of-the-mill icecream/fudge shops sprinkled around the city. I hear the Hyppo is opening a second shop in Palm Coast by the beach so that will be awesome and much less of a drive than St. Augustine. Seriously one of the best things about Jacksonville/St. Augustine. The Hyppo single-handedly has changed my opinion about moving back to Jacksonville, in a positive way, lol. I lurvvveeeee The Hyppo's popsicles. The flavors are all on point! I especially appreciate the floral flavors such as watermelon hibiscus, because I enjoy eating things that other people think tastes like perfume. For instance, I love lavender, earl grey, rose ice cream. Anyway, there are a myriad of flavors to pick from. There are dichotomous flavors such as sweet and spicy, can't recall the spicy chocolate one...This location in particular is my favorite because it's got nice natural lighting and I am convinced it has the most selection. read more

Definitely worth a trip. I had the Datil Strawberry, which was an amazing combination of absolutely fresh strawberries and the fire from hot peppers. My wife tried the Pineapple Cilantro and she said it was superb. Their flavors were so different, we went out of our way to come back before driving North for one last visit. I had the "Mouth Grenade". If you like HOT things this is a must try adventure. If it's not on the menu, try the Mango Habanero. read more

After seeing the sign "gourmet popsicles" we stopped in for an afternoon treat on our way out of town. I wish we had found the place sooner -- I would have gone back for more. I got the pineapple cilantro. At first hubby said he didn't want one. He quickly changed his mind after having a bite of mine! The hibiscus pear was just as good. It's obvious the ingredients are fresh and of the highest quality. Yes, they cost $3.50 apiece. This isn't frozen Kool-Aid -- its fresh fruit and imagination frozen on a stick, and it's worth every penny. We'll be back the next time we're in St. Augustine. One pop is filling for a tiny tummy May need some water after it if sugar bothers you and makes you thirsty like it does me, natural sugars do it to me as well. I ate mine so fast that I forgot to take a picture. They have so many flavors, some fairly normal and some really unique. We got chocolate dipped pina colada and strawberry basil. Both were very good however I would skip the chocolate dipping. That's mostly what you taste while eating it and it defeats the purpose of getting a really unique flavor. read more

The Hyppo sells mainly one very special thing: homemade popsicles. I think they may have a few other offerings, coffee or such, but it's no doubt their popsicles that are their main reason for even existing and their claim to fame in Saint Augustine and beyond. The interior of the shop is lovely--cute, engaging and as fun as you'd hope for a popsicle shop. The popsicles, at least the creamy walnut one I had, are good--not like a sorbet, not a like a homemade popsicle that is mostly water and flavor, but very heavy on cream--not light at all, but much more like an ice cream treat though of even greater thickness. Some of the other popsicles may be less-dense and creamy, but all of them looked good. A friend had the key lime one and liked it and the coconut, orange-cream, and piña colada ones all looked good, too. Certainly a very Floridian approach to sweets, and very appropriate for Saint Augustine. read more

The prickly pear was as if I was eating a real prickly pear. The best one we had was the papaya pineapple. Like I said, we went back for seconds. My only complaint is that it's a little pricey. These Popsicles are made mostly from raw fruits and seasonings, very little added sugar. The flavor of the pineapple cilantro popsicle was amazing. The clerk told me it was the owner's favorite flavor. It's now my favorite flavor popsicle, too. Wish I had the recipe. We saw a little girl eating a strawberry hyppo popsicle a little while later and she said it tasted just like a strawberry. Great place to pop in for a new and original popsicle. So many flavors and not enough time!

I was super hyped about this place because after reading about the mango champagne only to go there and find out they did not have it that day. So do not go there expecting to find the favors that were mentioned. It took me such a long time to pick out a flavor because there was always one ingredient that I was not crazy about in the combination. They seemed to have some good creamy flavor combinations but their fruit flavors was limited with some sort of herb/spice element to it. For me, I like my fruit to be sweet and herb/spice to be savory and definitely not mixed. For a pricey fancy popsicle ($3.50), it tasted very supermarket generic. pistachio rosewater- In the beginning the rosewater overpowered the pistachio, then when I tasted it again later towards the end, it seemed to be more blended and tamed. mango papaya- The closest flavor to the mango champage. Just as I thought, the papaya totally overpowered the mango. I was expecting it to be almost a natural puree mixture but it was on the sweeter proceed end. read more
