This is an old school, local ice cream shop that's doing something right. The customer service is outstanding! The flavors are pretty cool and they mix in great ingredients. This place in terms of soft serve is fabulous! Definitely one of my top 5 for soft serve. They make ice cream sandwiches that are prepackaged and sold in the case and they are incredible! The chocolate cookie they use holds up well and is thin and flavorful. Their homemade soft serve ice cream cakes are a tastebud showstopper! According to my boyfriend, they are a local favorite and have been for many decades. We've tried a few things and I do think they have really good vanilla ice cream but beyond that, the other flavors are pretty basic/standard. If you're looking for bold, fun, or unique flavors, then this is the wrong place to go. It's never to busy and service is quick and polite. Highly recommend going here for all of your sweet tooth needs! The staff is great and will assist you if you're indecisive on any flavor combinations. Their menu is quite large compared to other ice cream shops. They have some amazing sundae flavors, toppings, and combinations to choose from. The interior does not have any seating, but instead freezers with birthday cakes or ice cream desserts to go. The walls are also lined with their menu so it gives you time to consider what you would like to order. I would also recommend you leave with their ice cream cookie sandwiches to have at home. They are the perfect snack - they have the more standard plain cookie sandwiches or others rolled in crushed up Chips Ahoy cookies or sprinkles. They are amazing! Sunday July 20, 2025 at 1:30pm went into the Ice Cream Shoppe in Shelton with my friend. She ordered a vanilla cone with sprinkles and upside down in a cup, I ordered a chocolate vanilla swirl with sprinkles cone upside down in a cup. The young girl who waited on us gave me just vanilla, when I asked if it was the chocolate vanilla swirl she said no, I thought you said vanilla swirl. I said no, she then asked if I wanted her to remake it and said yes please. Then with a attitude took the wrong ice cream threw it into the trash (which I expected) and then preceded to put the chocolate vanilla swirl into the cup with sprinkles and shoved a cone on top and basically threw in into the window. I've worked retail for many years and I know that even when the customer is wrong they're right. So my question is, what happened to customer service? read more

As per the famous saying " be nice to your nieces and nephews, because you'll need them to smuggle wine into your nursing home", I have been stead fast to ensure my nephews receive the best of everything I can offer. :D For my nephews 3rd birthday today, I commissioned an ice cream birthday cake that had an icing drawing of a MUSTANG with his name on the cake. 10/10 EVERYONE at the small gathering (while wearing masks and social distancing) sent me pics of the cake via text and were RAVING about the COOL decoration and most importantly, noted how fabulous the cake tasted on this HOT HOT HOT Connecticut day. We stopped in for a quick ice cream fix and enjoyed our visit. There's a deli-style line inside and plenty of seating outside. They have soft serve and hard ice cream and all the options (cones, shakes, sundaes, etc). The hubby and I got the same ice cream (sorry I forget the name) and we both laughed because it was almost more candy add-ons (Oreos, PB cups, fudge) than ice cream! It was a fun mix for sure. We ordered play dough in a cone, cotton candy in a cone, vanilla milkshake, and a peanut butter sundae with peanut butter cup ice cream. Portion sizes were much smaller then other ice cream shops but I didn't mind since most places give so much more then I want for a small! Peanut butter ice cream sundae- The ice cream for the sundae had chunks of ice in it and was a bit freezer burned. I was very surprised since it's summer now and expected to have fresh made ice cream. Lots of peanut butter and chocolate sauce! Topped nicely with whipped cream and a cherry. The flavors were overall very good but it would have been better if it wasn't for the freezer burn! Play dough ice cream in a cone- The play dough ice cream had lots of marshmallow topping inside which made it unable to hold in a cone so they put it inside a cup. This was very disappointing for my son as he expected to have a cone not cup. He liked the ice cream but kept saying it was so much marshmallow and actually didn't finish which is absolutely a first for him, he always wants more. Cotton candy ice cream in a cone- the cotton candy ice cream was filled with marshmallow topping and didn't hold in a cone just like the play dough flavored one. My daughter never denies eating ice cream but she really only took a few bites before refusing to eat it. It was way to sweet when I tried it and had to share mine with her which she did like. We ended up just throwing it away before it made a mess in the car. I wouldn't order this flavor again. Vanilla milkshake- the vanilla milkshake was average and had an ok taste. My grandmother said she had better but it was good. She didn't seem thrilled but didn't really complain so I'm guessing it was still good she just had better before. She did comment that it was very thick and had to wait for it to melt to drink it. Overall I was kinda disappointed with this shop after visiting all these ice cream shops lately but it was still an ok place to visit. Assuming it was the owner who showed up in his gray Lexus... he walked in the side door and made eye contact with me as I was approaching the walkway to enter the store. As I get up to the front entrance, he flicks off the open sign in my face. The audacity to not even say, hi we're closed, and instead shutting off the sign in front of me was very unprofessional and disrespectful. We were in town doing some hiking, and happened to see this place as we were heading home. We immediately put on the brakes and turned in here to check it out, because we are suckers for ice cream. It's a nice little place, with a pretty generic name, but some nice flavors and different special sundaes and stuff. We both got coffee crunch cones, and you get a good amount of ice cream for the price. They make all their flavors on premises, which is definitely a reason to come here. I recently came here on a summer weeknight around 7:30pm. The line was out the door with people socially distanced. I would say I waited approximately 10-15 minutes before being waited on. Some wore masks inside while others did not. They have a sign encouraging you to wear a mask while inside. I was helped by a pleasant young employee. I asked how many scoops are in a regular sundae and she said 2 1/2 scoops. I ordered a regular sundae with cookies and cream ice cream and hot fudge. She asked if I wanted anything else so I asked if I could get whip cream. She then asked if I wanted whip cream and a cherry and I said sure! I asked how much it was because I didn't see prices. It came to $8.75. I thought this was a bit pricey for a sundae. They have a couple tables and benches outside for you to enjoy your ice cream. I was going to eat outside but a bug was annoying me and it was humid out so I ate in my A/C car! I thought the ice cream was very good but the sundae as a whole was average. Cookies and cream is one of my favorite flavors and I thought it had a good amount of cookies in it as well as the overall flavor. The hot fudge was not hot and more runny than thick. It was more of a syrup consistency but it had an okay flavor. The whip cream was average and cherry was on point! I definitely was full after eating the sundae but just wanted to mention that the regular sundae I got did not fill the entire styrofoam cup. There was a bit of empty space. If I return I most like will not get a sundae again but just ice cream. They have a nice selection of ice cream cakes and novelties. So I started with a 3 star rating because, while they technically make their own ice cream, they use a pre-made mix as the base. I do enjoy their soft serve very much and I highly recommend that. Also, they have the best ice cream cakes I've had, especially with the chocolate fudge topping. While I much more enjoy the "homemade" hard ice creams of other local shops, my daughter very much enjoys the flavors offered at The Ice Cream Shoppe. I am uping my rating from 3 to 4 after a recent issue we had. The owner/ manager did an excellent job resolving it to ensure we as customers were satisfied... and we were! The maple walnut ice cream was amazing and the staff were friendly! They have lots of parking and a few benches if you chose to eat your ice cream while you're there. They also serve a bunch of other items like ice cream cookies, sundaes, ice cream cakes, pops, and shakes just to name a little more than a few. The ice cream cakes and pies are great! They never fail me in this department. My favorite cake is the regular ice cream cake covered in fudge... always go with the option covered in fudge! I've tried a few different flavors of the pies and have very much enjoyed them. As for ice cream to go, I'm not blown away by flavors. Their milkshakes also are not my favorite.
