I've always gotten the best scalp massages while my hair was shampooed, thurough consultations from Alyssa with realistic advice of what would look best on me, product recommendations for my hair type, and great service by the front desk. Nicole does really beautiful work on my (unruly) eyebrows and it was refreshing to have someone tell me not to pluck them and let them grow out. She shapes them really nicely and is quick. Overall for a high end salon you get a very high end experience worth the price you're paying. Although I'd say the parking can be unpredictable so arrive a little early for wiggle room.

Today in Dallas, the weather was exceptionally cold! I sat in the chair and Mary knew that the water was cold and proceeded to pour it on my head. I said it was cold and let's wait for the hot water to come through. She then said ok for maybe 10 seconds.. then she proceeded with the cold water again .. I told her it was still tooooo cold and let's wait a little more and she said she can't wait. I was forced to have my hair washed in cold water! I was not happy. My shirt was wet and she said it's because I moved! No I moved because the freezing cold water shocked me!!! She'd asked if I wanted deep conditioning and I said NO!! Thank God I said No, because my hair would have been a 100 dollars .Cheap shampoo and conditioner for a total of 70 whole dollars! While I said blow dry just the my roots , she blew dried my whole hair and burned me 4x and have the nerve to ask me what's wrong??????? My scalp is on fire and burning... that's what's wrong.. She couldn't even apologize when I said that...Then said she told me that she told me the price would be 70 dollars.... That was a whole lie!! She never told me it would be 70 dollars! I'm stunned by an experience with The Collective Salon, my go-to vendor for hair care during the…read morepast 18 months. I learned yesterday what their true priority is, and it is most definitely not "legendary service", as their company writeup insists. (Forgive the length of this post, but I believe you may find it useful.) It's all about the money. Here's how I know. Yesterday, our beloved 32-year-old African Grey parrot was clearly in distress and our veterinarian advised us to rush him to the clinic. Only an hour away from my 1 p.m. appointment at The Collective, I immediately texted and voice-mailed my stylist, apologizing for the cancellation, offering to pay a cancellation fee, and advising her that I would rebook and would be tipping her an extra $100 for a Christmas bonus, over and above my normal tip for service. That pledge was clearly insufficient. When I called the salon directly to explain my situation, zero empathy was forthcoming. Instead, I was told that I would "only" be charged $140, half of the $280 charged for a color highlight. Apparently, they thought a $140 penalty was a generous concession over their normal full-price charge. To say that I was stunned was putting it mildly. But I should not have been. Here's what to expect the minute you sign up with this salon: 1. You must give them your full credit card detail "to hold" in case of cancellation. 2. You will be charged full price for any service cancelled within 24 hours of the visit.(or is it 48 hours?) I can understand a cancellation fee - my last salon charged $50. But FULL PRICE? And absolutely no exceptions? During my decades-long tenure as a communications consultant, I gave countless fee-free hours to clients when I felt the situation was warranted and would contribute to a healthy, balanced vendor-client relationship. It's called 'the cost of doing business,' folks. But The Collective Salon begs to differ. In fairness to my stylist, a talented woman whose company I enjoyed and work I appreciated, she did begrudgingly offer to forgo any penalty to keep my patronage. But her outrage was obvious, and I declined. Instead, I called the salon and told them to charge my credit card the full $280 - a last hurrah from me to a salon that puts money above all else. They did so immediately. Here are other random notes that may shed light on working with the Collective Salon: * They charge Oak Lawn prices without Oak Lawn amenities. You will be treated to rock-hard, molded plastic chairs - genuinely uncomfortable - whether undergoing a shampoo or sitting beneath the dryer. They will serve you a diet coke, but this is otherwise a bare-bones salon. * You will be hounded via text and phone to ensure you show up for your appointment. And clearly, family emergencies do not factor into the customer-client relationship. Cherished pet or beloved relative - a death in the family doesn't count. Pay up. In full. Immediately. The first time she did my child's braids, we had documented conversations she wanted "smedium" colored braids. She doesn't have "smedium" on her service list, so she stated exactly what service my daughter needed. She sent me a text message with the price for colored "smedium" braids, address, appointment time, and Zelle instructions to send pre-payment. This was the first time my daughter got braids and she was satisfied. The second time she went, it was also for colored "smedium" braids. Cierra started off doing good, but soon after they were varying sizes and sloppy. I misunderstood my child when she told me Cierra was rushing to do her hair because I assumed she was trying to go pick up her young child. What my child actually said was Cierra was rushing to do her hair because her child was crying, tired, hungry and wanted to go. She can't effectively perform a 5-hour, $200+ service and tend to her young child's needs. What child wants to be in a messy cramped one room suite for hours hungry and tired. Since she likes to inform she has cameras, she can rewind to 2/4 to see how her servicing and child were that day. My child had an appt for 9am today. At 8:12am Cierra text me to see if we could come at 10am. My child's appointment was originally booked from 9am to 2pm. When my child arrived, Cierra was doing a client's nails. Granted she got lost in the hallway making her a few minutes late; however, Cierra was still not ready to do her braids. When she finally started, my child called me at 10:29am to say Cierra was not doing "smedium" braids, they were bigger and not "smedium" like she wanted, or done before. She told my child I didn't book her for "smedium." Again, she doesn't have it on her service list, but per Cierra, to let her know before she starts, to do "smedium" braids. She had the unmitigated gall to say she never told me to book medium for "smedium" which is a BLATENT LIE. My child told her as she has twice before when starting, and she said ok. Now all of a sudden after my child complains and I come back up there, she doesn't have time to do "smedium" as it "takes more time"(she had her come an hour late, and had a client schedule at 2), it's gonna cost more money. $300 for "smedium", and more money for colored hair which apparently at that moment was extra, although I provided the hair and she NEVER stated or charged for 2 colors before...deceptive practices. My child wasn't happy with the 6 sloppy braids Cierra did do today. She came back to get braids for her party thinking they'd look like the first time she did them. She gave her a pass last time for her braids not being like they were the first. She felt sorry for her child complaining she was hungry, crying, and wanting to leave. But when she comes a third time expecting what she got the first and doesn't, her child is there again, and the price is significantly higher with added fees not informed of, that's where we drew the line. Cierra stated I had to pay her 1/2 for same day cancellation. I didn't cancel, she didn't provide the service and gave no prior notice she wouldn't. She said she didn't have time to do "smedium" braids. It made no sense to continue since my child was not getting the service Cierra confirmed before starting. She also agreed it made no sense to continue and waste her time. When showing Cierra different pictures of the first time she did my child's hair, she kept vacillating saying those are smaller than "smedium" or those are actually larger than what I'm doing now. Crazy thing, it was multiple pictures of the same time and braids. A LITTLE ADVICE, BEFORE TELLING A CLIENT THEY'RE LYING.. CHECK AAAALL YOUR COMMUNICATIONS. EVIDENCE DOESN'T LIE, PEOPLE DO! Fortunately, a friend referred an honest and awesome braider who saved the day and made my child uberly happy.
