Just started the 4-week session, after doing the introductory class. Recommended by a friend. I was nervous about going, told my friend "I don't know how to DO comedy! I don't have a routine!" But it's NOT about that! First off, teacher Bill Chott is amazing. I wanted to take an improv comedy class because I've always admired improv comedians, so smart and talented! It was also on my bucket list soooo...I found the Improv Trick. I was nervous like so many others, scared to be on stage, afraid of looking stupid instead of funny, etc. The amazing thing about Bill Chott is that he's encouraging, supportive, and he guides you into the improv world in a fun way. No pressure! There is no pressure to be funny, no pressure to be wildly entertaining, in fact, he says, "Don't try to be funny. It will happen naturally." And it does! We play games and do exercises together, the "mistakes" (which there aren't any in his class) are usually the funniest parts of improv. Therefore, the journey of learning improv becomes more like a game. But of course, you're learning how to successfully improv at the same time. I love this place for learning the art of improv! I've never taken classes before (although there are several "pros" taking class with us amateurs), and really wanted to find a place that would make me feel comfortable. THIS IS IT! A truly positive environment, where everyone gets a chance to "play". And the price is sssooo right. Lifetime membership includes free repeat classes - What?! Absolutely insane value. I was only able to take the first class, but it was fantastic. A very fun, welcoming and hands on class. I recently took the Improv Trick's four week "Life Time" class. My interest in the class was to become more comfortable with public speaking and also to have some fun experiencing this craft. I have to admit I took this on a whim and ended up joining! First off there is no just sitting and watching. Everyone is an active participant. It really is a non-judgmental atmosphere. First time seein improv here. Really funny and in a chill, casual setting. I have seen some of these cast members in another venue in LA. Very talented group! Audience was involved from the beginning throwing out suggestions. Improv games were fast-paced. Second hour was open for audience members to fully participate. We didnt eat - but the service was good for drinks. For $5 tickets- it was definitely worth the trip to Pasadena. read more

I found Bill Chott online as I was looking for a good way to get into improv without breaking the budget. I attended his Improve Jam in Pasadena, CA at 72 North tonight and was very impressed. Bill has a great group that is very good at improv and the great thing is that it's free to go attend and you can join in if you want to. I had the chance to speak with Bill and he told me about his 4-week beginning improv class that he holds on the same premises. You can attend the first class for free and if you sign up at that class, the four week beginners class, which you can come back and repeat as often as you want for free, is only $125.00. If you don't sign up at the free class the fee is $200.00. I spoke with several people there who have been through Bill's classes and had nothing but the most positive feedback from all of them. I'm going to be signing up for the beginner classes and I'll definitely be going back to the Improv Jam each Tuesday night.
