Stupid, just stupid. Okay, moving on with the actual review. My wife and I came to The Ice House a few weeks back because Saaniya Abbas was performing and that is something we just couldn't miss. The venue itself is located in an area with tons of parking, places to eat, and desert shops so there's things to do before and after the show, which is nice. Inside the building it's super clean, spacious, and the main room has great vibes to it as well. We were seated pretty close to the stage and since we had to order things, I ordered some garlic fries and a bottle of water and let me say, as much as I wanted to regret the garlic fries they were absolutely delicious and I gobbled them up like a dog eating food it finds on the ground. The water? Well for like $10 a bottle it better of been good water. Overall, I did end up having a blast at The Ice House thanks to one of my favourite rising comedians Saaniya Abbas absolutely killing it. Will I come back in the future? Yeah, probably, and I'll complain to my wife about the minimum then too.

So imagine my absolute delight, when I came across The Nitecap, a sober comedy club in Burbank, with a CUTE LIL OUTDOOR PATIO for before the show starts. This place has everything - stand up, classes, audition prep and taping - and Aaron, the guy who owns it, is THE NICEST, COOLEST DUDE. He mixes mocktails himself and gently welcomes everyone like he fucking lives there and wants you to feel like his personal guest. Plus it's easy to park around there and I think you can rent the theater for your own projects too. I'll be back often, and I miiiiight even take an improv class... we'll see about that.

It's a serene, intimate, well lit spot that makes everyone feel comfortable. The tech always sounds amazing at the Glendale Room. I love performing here because there are always two working microphones. I also love how relaxed and chill everyone that works here is. I think one of my favorite things about watching comedy here is the couch in the back right corner. It's so comfortable I like to sit here to watch and perform. Glendale Room has a ton of open mics for anyone that wants to try stand up for the first couple of times. There are also snacks and drinks available for purchase on the honor system. How trusting! A dog started barking from inside, and then the owner opened the door and asked if I was going to a class. Before I could even respond, the dog came blasting out through the door and tried to attack my dog. The owner then hit his dog and grabbed the dogs collar and started dragging the dog towards the door. When they got back to the front door, the guy asked again if I was taking a class. I told him no, I'm just responding to a text, in a public area and your dog almost attacked mine. He responded "shut up, b*tch". Violent and aggressive behavior across the board.

Wait for the unbiased reviews to trickle in before committing to their latest offerings, because if Brigadoon is the current standard, the bar hasn't just been lowered--it's been buried. Wednesday's opening night was, to put it bluntly, a stinker. We arrived with open minds and tempered expectations; we weren't looking for a Gene Kelly reincarnation or a Broadway-scale miracle. We understand the constraints of regional theater. However, what we witnessed was so profoundly lackluster that it felt less like a professional production and more like a mediocre college workshop. The "Highland" Lowlights: * Atrocious Casting: With the sole exception of Betsy Morgan--who possessed the only singing and dancing chops worthy of the material--the casting was a disaster. * Cultural Caricature: The premise of Brigadoon relies on a town preserved in time to protect its Scottish heritage. Why, then, was this cast like a generic Disney Channel original movie? The "Scottish" culture on display was a cringeworthy caricature reminiscent of a Mike Myers sketch. In a city like Los Angeles, home to thousands of versatile actors, is authenticity really that hard to find? * Anemic Energy: The choreography was limp, and the vocal performances were consistently weak. The sound system was so quiet it felt like a mercy killing; perhaps turning it up would have provided the "punch" the performers so desperately lacked. I cannot remember the last time I saw a professional audience flee after only a few scenes. We endured the first half, but left at intermission. It was simply that unbearable. While the Pasadena Playhouse relies on the generosity of donors to stay afloat, one has to wonder: is there any quality control left? Or is the current mode of operation simply to shovel substandard content at a captive audience? Thank God we aren't trapped in this version of Brigadoon for a hundred years. 45 minutes was more than enough.
