Came with a friend to watch Joel Sunny on November 19, 2025. I love going to concerts at small, intimate venues. This was my first time at the Independent, and we stood near the stage. We enjoyed standing so close to Joel Sunny and hearing his beautiful violin playing live. It was a little awkward with drinking. We were not aware we needed drinking bracelets (I didn't drink, my friend did), and my friend got a beer, and we ended up getting scolded by security and they needed to check his ID. We had a great time, though!

10 out of 10 trolling by the DJ appeasing the many Gen Alphas in the crowd pre-concert by playing Hamilton and kiddie songs while bearded hipsters also in the crowd had "wtf" faces lmaooo (but really tho, since when do Gen Alphas listen to Iceland-songwriting folk music?!?). Anyway, here I attended a Yaelokre concert (suuuper talented musician and amazing live in concert). Very cozy venue (there's even some bench seating off to the side in the stage viewing area). Great acoustics! Straightforward entering procedure, though kinda irked that there was no bag check.....

If any of your favorite artists are booked at this venue, then you gotta experience the performance here! I enjoy coming out to this venue. Its next door neighbors with Emporium and Madrone (bonus if you happen to be in the neighborhood on a Monday. This is a late review and Protege was epic (July 2024). Iykyk

I've been here a few times now for music and comedy events, and it's a great intimate venue. The space makes performances feel up close and personal, which adds to the experience. There's a bar in the back for drinks, and an upstairs area that offers a nice elevated view of the stage. Overall, it's a solid spot for a night out, whether you're catching live music or a comedy show.

This spot is kinda dusty in the atmosphere. I can feel it! Staff was pretty friendly checking me in and there was a great bartender that took my order when I was ready. However, I took one star off from one of the bartenders that lied about the upstairs being for only friends and family VIP. Because another staff directed excess guest upstairs. Folx can be pretty shady with the mixture of answers and I guess that one bartender was probably not having a good day or just was being silly. But I'm happy for the coke I ordered and also the view upstairs. It was a packed venue and probably would return and come earlier to get a seat.

The Independent is legit an intimate, no-frills live music venue. A rad lil spot in the NOPA district featuring some great underground indie bands. I haven't been here in a few years so I was super excited to catch my favorite band EVER for an Outside Lands Night Show. This concert was sold out and the line was wrapped around the street. They did will call only for this show which was wild! I haven't had a physical ticket in a long time, but that definitely explained the longer lines. We waited for a little under an hour to get inside. Unclear if they do this for all shows. The venue itself is amazing. Sound quality is beautiful. Ceilings are high so you won't feel super crammed. Be mindful that you will most likely be standing up the entirety of the show but whatever spot you end up in, you'll have a perfect view. It really is a tiny venue but that's definitely part of its charm. If you end up in the front, you are literally close enough to feel blood, sweat, and tears. When I was here watching Banks n Steelz a few years back, I was close enough for them to pour me shots!!!!!! There are so many gems on Divisadero to check out. We ended up at Che Fico for dinner and Fly Bar for the pregame. Merch table and bar moved very fast. Staff is super friendly. Parking sucks, don't do it.

Super easy to get in and get seated for Michael Che. We had to lock our devices up because he was trying out new material. They used yondr pouches for our phones. What a weird but nice experience to not be with our phones for a few hours. They don't serve food and didn't have any wait staff. Only one bar in the back. This show was filled to the brim with seats etc. once you sat down it was difficult to get up again the seats were that tight. But we had a bunch of good laughs.

When do shows end typically? Is there a hard lights on time for the venue?

What kinda alcohol do they serve at the bar, and what's the price point for a shot of bourbon?

    Well is 12

Can you show tickets on phone or do you have to print?

Phone is fine! We didn't print and were able to enter the venue fine.

Can i get into a concert if im 18? or is it still strictly 21+?

It is 21 and over. No exceptions. Says so at website under venue tab.

    Any seating at this venue?

There is some seating around the very edges of the room and on the mezzanine. You need to get there early to snag it but there are places to sit.

Do you have to be 21 or older to attend an event here?

    Yes. Period. No exceptions.

Is there a place to store your items? Do they let you in with a portable charger it's the size of a iPhone?

There has been a coat-check near the restrooms to pretty much every show I've ever seen here. Never… Read more

    Is there a coat check?

Yup, cash only, I think 2/3 bucks

Do they scan ID's here? Recently lost mine and waiting for it to be mailed, so I only have a picture of it.

Yes they do scan ID's. Forgot mine at home once and couldn't get it til I got it.

    Parking recommendations please?

good luck! There's no official venue parking but with enough time, patience and sharp eyes you can usually find street parking in the neighborhood within 3-5 blocks. That said, it's pretty transit-accessible. You could take BART to Civic Center and… Read more

My boyfriend and I came here to see TK from Ling Tosite Sigure (real anime heads know - Tokyo Ghoul, Psycho Pass, etc. or if you're a fan of math rock). We got the GA tickets and waited in the line for the venue around 40 minutes before the show. We were still in the first 100 or so people in, we were in the line when it curved the corner near the other shopping plaza near the bus stop, so it wasn't too fisted when we went. This was absolutely not the case for the LA show, so the vibes in NorCal versus SoCal are completely different. Staff was welcoming (as best they could) and efficient in checking us in and security was friendly in what they had to do. Much better than some of the other venues I've been to. You have to go upstairs to get to the live house concert stage area. It looks very high end with the lighting, curtains, balcony area, and chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. It's not as grandiose as say the Mayan (RIP), but nice nonetheless. We were probably 3-4 layers of people from the front, but was able to see all of the band members quite well and I was accidentally in the band's Instagram post (with my very funny and cooked back posture). Sound quality was great and really highlighted not only TK's vocals, but the technicality and skill he has on guitar (dude had to swap guitars between each song), as well as all of the support members (their support drummer from Crossfaith has such good stage presence). Nothing sounded too drowned out or overpowering. Good acoustics. The merch table was at the side and I didn't pay too much mind to where the bar was. When walking up stairs I was wondering where to go and loudly asked that question and a kind staff working the coat check in the opposite direction pointed to where to go. I think my only qualm though is the stairs that everyone has to take up, and more importantly down since it gets super crowded. However, they do have an accessible elevator for those who may require it or are ADA. What I love about this venue is the apples they give attendees. Great post concert snack. Sweet and crispy apple. I really love that they do this. And apparently this was the only tour stop that had a free poster with the artist playing too. Love that extra goodie for concert goers since I didn't purchase any merchandise. If there's a band or musician that I know is going to go to the Fillmore, I'm going to try to make the show since I really enjoyed it here!

1 Star - Awful Manager and Staff Experience…read more We attended the Alex Isley concert at The Fillmore and brought our 8-year-old daughter. It was her very first concert, and she absolutely loves Alex Isley. The venue was standing room only, but we found a small corner near the front where we weren't blocking anyone's view. Early in the evening, one female staff member seemed to have an issue with us, although every other staff member we encountered was friendly and accommodating. At one point, I asked a staff member if it would be okay to put my daughter on my shoulders so she could see the stage. He told me it was absolutely fine, and several other staff members nearby clearly had no issue with it. Later, the same female employee returned and began harassing my wife about our daughter being on my shoulders or standing on a bench that was not obstructing anyone's view. She made a scene unnecessarily and then escalated the situation to a manager. The manager arrived and was just as rude. Although I complied immediately because I didn't want to create a scene in front of my daughter, we felt singled out and bullied throughout the interaction. Ironically, other concertgoers immediately tried to help by offering our daughter space in front of them so she could see the performance. Even more telling, a member of Alex Isley's security team witnessed what happened, approached us afterward, and kindly arranged for my wife, daughter, and me to meet Alex after the show. That completely made our daughter's night and turned what could have been a very disappointing experience into a special memory. The kindness shown by Alex Isley's team and fellow concertgoers stood in stark contrast to the behavior of The Fillmore's manager and this particular staff member. Because of this experience, I will not return to The Fillmore and cannot recommend the venue to others. 1/5 stars.

We rang in the new year here on Tuesday night, and had a wonderful time. The New Year's Eve event included a Frank & Dean Show, Open Jam, and access to more music in each of the individual rooms, along with the opportunity to explore the music studios and alluring decor throughout the venue. The Frank & Dean Show was cool, with the vocalists performing tunes like Fly Me To The Moon and That's Amore, but I don't think it lived up to the capabilities of this venue, musically. It was like watching karaoke on the big stage (they already had a karaoke room downstairs, which could do the same), but it was fine, they had us smiling and vibing to the great crooner musical acts during our first hour there. The music city underground offerings had actual live music more to our liking, the various bands in each room performing a range of tunes including folk, rock, blues, and reggae. The Open Jam was even funner, creating awesome music with sounds of the saxophone, bass, keyboard, vocals, and more. I especially enjoyed getting to watch and hear my bf play the guitar, drums, and melodica (musicians can bring their own instruments, or use the house instruments). The environment was simply welcoming and laid back, with lots of talented artists simply having a good time. The service and food/drink offerings were not the best and are the biggest reason I'm not giving 5 stars. They seemed a bit disorganized in the beginning, and guests who had tickets were confused about how to find their reserved seats (not just my party, but other attendees too) and it took a while for anyone to help us. The 7:00pm show didn't start till 7:20pm, and the second show started late as well. For dinner, we had the chicken caesar wrap and fish n chips, and though they were both delicious and good sized portions, they weren't our first choices. They were out of the steak frite and salads, and possibly more. How could you be out of multiple menu items on a special event day, before the event even starts?!? They already have a limited menu to begin with, so this was definitely a turnoff. Nonetheless, can't deny, Music City SF is still a pretty amazing music venue with a lot of potential. And we certainly had a memorable experience.
