However, once they sat me down I was absolutely shocked by the amount of color options they had to pick from. I wanted to go for a classic red and their variety in the shades of red were AMAZING. My nails tech was Jade, who was absolutely FANTASTIC and so sweet. I had to get my acrylic nails removed, manicure and shellac and she was great. I've previously had bad experiences with getting my acrylics removed, but this time it was amazing and so gentle and did not damage my nails at all. All of it was also very decently priced and it was great. I also want to add that my nail tech's (Jade) sister did her nails and I was speechless (photo added below). I didn't take any photos but it looks just like Pure except for the multitude of white sticky flower art placed on the wall. There were no new magazines for a new shop which was disappointing. Why don't shops care about keeping the customers happy in that regard? I was a bit disappointed there. The ladies were kind and friendly and told me they had previously worked at Pure. So you can imagine how all of these things made me skeptical at first. The massage was weak, and you sit in the same uncomfortable position on the sofas, without the massage chairs offeredat most salons. Then again, my massage was only an extra dollar as part of the opening special, so I couldn't really complain but it should have been part of the service, anyway. I was also given the option of an eyebrow thread or nail art which hopefully would have been a better pick. There were few girls working on a weeknight, so I'm not sure if they would have had time for the threading. But the actual mani and pedi (gel on hands only) looked pretty good to me, so $72 later (with a ten dollar tip) I was satisfied and left with a smile on my face. I appreciated the service, the stamp card and the friendliness of the ladies, so in spite of the familiar blips that came with Pure, the positives outweighed the negatives and I will likely return.

These services don't come cheap, so I've done my fair of research. Crafty was recommended to me and sounded like it would be a good fit. They've got a tidy location across the street and close to Sport Chek on Broadway. I decided to walk in without an appointment and was in luck on a Saturday when they weren't too busy. First impression : bright and airy. I was served right away and directed to a chair near the front. The massage chair was fairly standard with options for back/shoulder/neck massage. I was a bit surprised not to be offered tea but it didn't seem like the other clientele were either. My combined service took a little over half an hour as both the mani/pedi were completed simultaneously. Staff were not chatty at all which was fine with me, if a bit awkward. They do have the option here of an "express" mani/pedi if you're short on time and want to skip the hand/foot massage and other little extras. I decided to get the full experience as it had been awhile and felt a little pampering was in order. Overall, I think they did a great job and I wouldn't hesitate to go back. For $66 excluding tip, it's a few dollars more than I'm used to for this but the attention to detail was good and I'm pleased that I made the trip. One of the girls was giving me a pedicure and Anna (the owner) was giving me a manicure at the same time. The girl was scraping the dead skin off my foot and wasn't paying attention and scraped the side of my foot. Realizing what she'd done, she immediately dropped my foot in the water to hide the cut, which stung so fcking bad. I pulled my foot out of the water and blood was gushing out. Anna said something to her in Vietnamese and the girl ran to grab ointment and bandages. I'm not impressed that she didn't acknowledge her mistake right away, but I didn't make a fuss. The girl was so embarrassed, she didn't look at me for the rest of the time so Anna ended up taking my payment. It's surprising that she charged me full price and I'm an idiot for tipping on top of that. This was 2 months ago and I wasn't going to bother writing about this, but that cut is now a scar, which I'm not happy about. I will never go back there, if I had a health condition this could've ended even worse.
