The Inn at the Oaks has a great homey atmosphere. Marirose and Bernie were great at answering questions about the surrounding area and things that were current to explore. They welcomed us at check in with a tour of the common areas and the history of the Inn. We stayed in the Sunrise room and it was bright and airy, with comfortable bedding, and an ensuite bathroom. If you want a clean, homey (like at weekend trip to grandma's, with warm breakfast waffles, cookies, and tea) this is where to stay. read more

I just spent a week with my hosts at the Inn at the Oaks. They are so welcoming and attentive. I can't think of a guest need they had not anticipated and provided for. My room, Sunset, was cheerful and full of light. The bed slept extremely well and the room temperature was comfortable. The skylight in the bathroom added extra light. The breakfast menus offered a range of choices. The fresh breads tempted me every morning as did the granola choices. The breakfast area also had a small refrigerator and microwave oven available for guest use and hot tea available around the clock. I found the location very central for my needs, and the tourist maps and other information and the hosts' suggestions helped. I most enjoyed exploring the guest areas and their treasures. Every time I entered a room, I noticed another whimsical feature or decoration. I think my favorite is the bird cage at the second floor landing. My dad and I stay at the Inn at the Oaks every year during the Wellfleet Oyster Fest weekend and wouldn't chose any other place. Everything about this inn oozes Cape Cod charm, and the new owners are absolutely lovely people. The new sit down breakfast is another nice touch. What a great place for a midwinter knitting weekend! My friend and I stayed in the Lighthouse room in the carriage house just out back, which has a king bed and a futon bed and its own bath. Other rooms have other configurations, tho I think all have their own bathroom. Some rooms have their own fireplaces. We sat in front of the fireplace in one of public rooms and knit. The room has a sofa and comfy chair, as well as 2 wicker chairs by the window - and its right next to the dining room and the room with tea. They were always happy to start a fire for us. The rooms aren't posh, but they're very comfortable and very clean, and I loved the nautical theme - not overdone, but lots of interesting touches. Breakfast was serve-yourself toast, English muffins, granola, fresh fruit, yogurt, fresh muffins and quick bread. There are several public rooms for hanging out, as well as rockers on the porch for nice weather. They have a small gift shop, and they sell trivets and things made of intricate ropework like the sailors used to make - which is also used throughout the inn. Staff was young, really friendly and personable, and happy to help in any way. Even though we didn't have great weather, we had a great weekend and we'll be back! I will give you the facts first and save my opinion for the end. My husband and I wanted to get away with our 9 month old daughter for a few days to Cape Cod. We used Expedia to look for a place to stay and after seeing many times "no children under 18", we were pleased to find this place which totes a "family friendly, pet friendly" policy. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly man who gave us a tour. On the tour we were shown all of the common rooms as well as the gift shop which had a section dedicated to children's toys, as the owner is a child psychologist. We were shown to our room and asked if we had needed a crib set up for our daughter (we didn't as we had brought our own). Around 7:30 we put our daughter down to sleep but the banging from the doors of the disconnected bathrooms did wake her up a couple of times. The bathrooms are not connected to most of the rooms so you have to go down the hall to use the bathroom. Fortunately she was asleep by 9 and only my husband and I were awoken by the bathroom doors. Anyways, we slept well after a long day of traveling and headed down in the morning for breakfast. While settling in with our continental breakfast of cereal and coffee, a woman who works there told us we needed to leave because they don't allow babies. We were beside ourselves. She said this is "the third time in 8 years" that someone didn't read the lengthy contract where it states "it may be inappropriate for children under 5". My husband asked rhetorically if we'd be refunded for our second night, fully expecting a resounding "yes". Instead the woman stated "a partial refund, if we can fill the room". Seriously. Ultimately we did get a refund for the second night we had booked but it didn't seem like she had any plans to had we not asked. We gathered our things and left, making sure to spread the word to everyone we come across who plans a trip to cape cod. Now, my opinion: If they don't allow babies, why didn't the man who checked us in say this? Why did he ask if we needed a crib? Maybe he was new, or maybe he just has a soul. How can you call yourself "family friendly" when you are excluding children 5 and under? What if our daughter was 5 years old, not 9 months, and we were kicked out. What would the child psychologist owner think of that? How would that effect her ego, her super ego or her id, Mr. Child Psychologist? A woman, named Samantha, who asked us to leave was unnecessarily cold and rude. We didn't do anything wrong and her "hospitality" skills are severely lacking. She could have explained things to us or offered some kind of apology. We are reasonable people. How is a place that is family friendly AND pet friendly making us leave because we have a 9 month old? What does family mean to you? A couple in their 50's with a teenage son? Your breakfast is weak. Don't call yourself a bed and breakfast if you are just going to open a few boxes of cereal and a store bought container of lemon poppy seed muffins. Fix your doors. If you are going to make people leave their rooms in the middle of the night to use the bathroom at least make it so they don't slam. Does your neighbor have to pee at 3 am? You can expect 4 slams from a door for that. The beds are very creaky, too, so hopefully your partner is a heavy sleeper if you do have to get up during the night. Be careful using your sink. The water is turned on from individual faucets and comes out boiling or icicle temperature. I give this place 1 star because it is nice at first glance and the property seems nice. UPDATE: I just thought I would mention that I read a review for this place on trip advisor, someone else complaining about their lackluster breakfast. Samantha responded and goes on to list the different types of sugar available (sugar in the raw, equal, etc.) LOL! Thought you might enjoy a chuckle :) Thanks to the good folks at Expedia we did not have to pay for our first night at the Inn at the Oaks as we were refunded. They also said they would encourage the place to remove "family friendly" from their website. Because they just aren't. The very defensive Samantha (you'll see what I mean by the way she responds to other people's reviews) should work on her people skills. In the hospitality business, it is essential to be hospitable! What a concept, right? For her sake, I hope she finds her calling someday, because this business isn't for her. We would never consider going back because of the lack of hospitality, above anything else. read more

We checked in on I bet the rainiest weekend of May. But the atmosphere was sunny nonetheless. The staff was personable without being at all intrusive. The whole place seemed to have every room filled but you could hardly tell everyone was respectful and peaceful. The rooms were comfortable, clean and amenable. This place was incredibly cute and cozy. It was my first time staying in a bed and breakfast and I was pretty impressed. We stayed in the lighthouse suite since we have a little dog. I felt like we were a little tucked away which was nice. Everyone that works there are so nice and welcoming. I don't know if it was worth the price we paid but overall a good experience! Wow, what a nice getaway from our dirty old hotel in Boston! This place is well priced with a great location. Only 3 minutes drive to the Goose Hummock kayak rental shop and a 3-5 minutes walk to Little Capistrano's bike rental store. If you are looking to catch a beautiful sunset, head on to First Encounter beach which is only a 5 minutes drive from the Inn. Now on to this beautiful property. This property has an exquisite Victorian charm and you definitely feel like you are transported back into the 18/19 century. While some of the built-ins may be old, this property is very well kept and did i mention spotless? If you are coming here with your family you can book one of their bigger suites or "cottages" which can fit from 4-6 people for only $200 a night. Breakfast here is basic with some bagels, muffins, cereal, yogurt, bundt cake and fruits. Oh, and please do yourself a favor and grab a piece of cookie during the snack hours! read more

I wish I could give negative stars. We bought a Living Social deal. When we called to book our room, the Samantha told me that I was clearly raging with pregnancy hormones and couldn't read the fine print. Excuse me?! I was requesting a specific room, based on the Living Social deal we had just purchased. It's too bad, because we were really looking forward to our weekend on the Cape. Guess we'll take our business elsewhere and be sure to let the Better Business Bureau know what poor customer service Samantha issued. We spent a long weekend in early spring with our pup. What a wonderfully pet friendly bed and breakfast! There were dog treats on the pillow, free waste baggies all for a reasonable fee. ($50). The staff is very welcoming and helpful. Property is kept very well making it feel cozy and like home. Free breakfast in the morning (great coffee) , snacks and coffee available between lunch and dinner as well as complimentary s'more making goodies to use with the firepit! Stayed in the beachcomber suite. Gorgeous and clean! Love this place and hope to come back soon ! read more

I honestly can't believe that anyone would give this place one star. First off, I booked this room for 2 nights- Saturday and Sunday over Expedia. Unfortunately, the next morning I received a phone call from them saying that by some silly coincidence, Expedia and the system they use on their website booked two people at the exact same time. At first I was extremely upset and didn't know if I was going to be able to find anything else that was affordable but Samantha reassured me that she was going to make different arrangements for us. She booked a room down the road at the Sheraton for Saturday and upgraded us to a suite the following Sunday night. It was a little inconvenient but the upgrade and a bottle of champagne was enough to satisfy us over a computer error... but it didn't stop there. We arrived to our suite and she left us a gift certificate for another stay. Talk about awesome customer service!!! As far as the actual accommodations go, the rooms were very clean. My bf is pretty particular about dust and always check's the ceiling fans before turning them on... and the one in our suite was spotless. The bed was comfy and the room was spacious. Also, the staff was extremely helpful in directing us to the best beaches and places to grab a bite to eat. The only thing I would have changed about the whole stay was the selection they had for breakfast. OVERALL: This BNB will make you feel at home and was a better stay than what we experienced at the Sheraton down the road. We'll definitely be staying here the next time we're in the area. read more

I've had two stays at The Inn at the Oaks, and would go there once a month if I could. Both my stays were during the off season, for the purpose of writing, with just a little socializing/vacationing. Marsha, the innkeeper was extremely friendly and helpful. I kept saying she was like the best dorm mother ever. The rooms are warm and inviting, each with its own special charm. Breakfasts made getting up at a reasonable hour a lot easier: fruit, cereal, healthy breads, delicious home-baked goods, everything fresh and yummy. Additionally, we were served our individual choices of eggs with or without bacon, and one day, yum, the most delicious pancakes. Both my trips were related to a writer's retreat I hosted at the Inn. Dr. Shapiro, the owner - a very successful writer himself - was accessible and most generous with his time and expertise. Months later I still think almost daily of one or another bit of wisdom he shared with us as a group or individually. The ambiance was so conducive to writing; I actually wrote 25 pages of a screenplay in just three days. I loved not having to hole up in my room, but being able to seek out one of the many suitable writing spaces in- or outdoors. Can't imagine a better place to get the words flowing. Marsha and Dr. Shapiro both made us feel like we were visiting family rather than just tourists. The atmosphere was so friendly we even socialized with the other guests in the evening, in front of the fireplace. Add to all this some world famous beaches, Provincetown not far down the road, nightlife and shopping, and, yikes, now I really want to pack up and go again. Can't beat it, five stars! read more

We just stayed our 5th time at this inn in the last 3 years! We keep coming back every time they have a livingsocial deal just so we have an excuse to stay there. This is an excellent place to stay. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. I love the cosiness of the rooms, and the independence of walking freely on the grounds. It feels like you are staying at a friends house! We stay here as a big family group for a wedding and it was great. The rooms were very clean and cozy and the entire B&B had great places to go and relax or to hang out and chat. The s'mores and afternoon cookies with lemonade were a hit! I took off a star because the breakfast itself was not my favorite. It was mostly cereal, yogurt, and bread and pastries like what you'd get at Costco. By day 3 we finally decided to go out and get a heartier and more savory breakfast, which in my mind sort of defeats the purpose of staying at a B&B. Other than that, we had a great time! read more

This place is awesome. It's like staying at grandma's house, beautiful wood trim and base boards. Warmly decorated communal areas, bedrooms are cozy and welcoming. There is a fireplace and outdoor fire pit for s'more making. Access to teas, hot coco & snacks all day & night. Big beautiful yard with lots of private areas to sit and relax. A huge assortment for breakfast with many areas to eat indoors and out. I spent my night sitting outside on the upstairs patio, unbelievably relaxing. It may not be a brand new 100% perfect but it is definitely the best inn with the best staff I've stayed in. Love that it is pet friendly! read more

I am so disappointed in the Inn at the Oaks. Let me preface by saying the woman I spoke with was quite knowledgeable in assisting me with Living Social deal I found for the time period in September we were looking to be on the Cape. $249.00 for two nights, and only a $50.00 pet fee, to me seemed like a great deal and I was excited to book. However, after having further discussion with Mary and confirming the dates we wanted to stay were available, she told me my 9 month old daughter was not allowed at the B & B. I'm baffled. I had not even thought to see if there was a policy on children at such a "family friendly" inn. Her reason was that babies cry and babies scream and that this is common practice at B&B's. We have had only one other experience with a B&B and all members of the family were allowed, so I guess we are inexperienced here. But come on, not allowing a baby who sleeps in the parent's bed with them, crazy. We have not had a single pleasure trip since before she was born and have no desire to go away without her. According to their policy, once she is 5 she will be allowed, which amuses me because the only time you hear our daughter is when she is laughing. Most 5 year olds I know make much more noise than a laughing infant. The policy also mentions that very few of their rooms accommodate more than two guests, which is another reason for the no babies' policy. However, the suites that are pet friendly and where we would be staying sleep up to 6. Not to mention, our daughter sleeps in bed with us so we would require no more than one king bed. When I said to Mary, "What would have happened if I never mentioned my daughter on the phone, whether on purpose or just because it did not come up?", she stated that when they saw us arrive with her we would have been charged "about" $150.00. Where in the policy does it state an associated fee to showing up with a child under 5 and also, how does paying that dollar amount affect the amount of noise said child omits? Not to mention the arbitrary "about" $150.00. Do they make up the fee on the spot? I am extremely disappointed in the Inn at the Oaks policy and they have forever lost my business and the business of my travel happy friends. My husband and I stayed two nights because I was attending a writers' conference at the Inn. I travel for a living and enjoy staying at inns when I can. The Inn at the Oaks is the cleanest, most immaculate property we have ever seen. Seriously, eat-off-the-floors clean. I don't know how they do it. Everything else was great too - interesting touches, lots of comfortable spaces, friendly staff, free, easy-to-access Wi-Fi. And the writer's conference led by Dr. Lawrence Shapiro was amazing! We had our honeymoon here and...WOW...just stunning. Beautiful, clean, comfortable...the Inn Keeper really knew how to make us feel welcome without making us feel stifled. I would recommend making time every night to build a fire and read in front of it. You can open a bottle of wine with their corkscrews and clean wine glasses for a perfect night. Easy walking distance from several major walking paths. Best space for a reasonable price anywhere in Eastham/Wellfleat/Orleans. read more

Me and my gf came up for a few days from NYC and it was perfect. Beautiful rooms and nice service. I loved the wood floors, furnishings and living areas. Great breakfast too! It was close to the beach and close to lots of good restaurants (A car is a must though). Nauset Light Beach was perfect and not crowded. (different from just Nauset Beach). The bed was enormous and I loved the blankets/bedding. I also love the ceiling fan (dont have those in nyc). We got a package that included local wine/2 glasses, drive-in tickets and a pizza. The complimentary cookies were the icing on the cake too, haha! read more

My boyfriend and I spent two nights at The Inn at the Oaks. It was our first time being at a bed and breakfast (we usually stay in hotels), and we were definitely not disappointed! We stayed in one of their small rooms on the 3rd floor - we had a queen-sized bed and a private bathroom right outside the hall. Both the bathroom and the room were clean. I especially love that our room had skylights right by the bed. To keep it somewhat short, here are some reasons why we loved this place: - It's the little details they do! Here's an example: they print and post daily weather and tide information - They have a s'mores station - Those cranberry white chocolate cookies - Breakfast was great, but mostly carbs - my boyfriend and I are meatitarians so would have preferred some ham or sausage.
