We started with the raw bar: oysters, clams and tuna tartar. Then moved on to steamers and mussels. We finished with steak and swordfish. After a very satisfying meal, with attentive staff, we relaxed on the beach next to a bonfire with Smores for the kids. The kids then all banned together for a game of hide and seek in the dark while the parents relaxed with a night cap. It was a truly wonderful experience. A must do for anyone visiting the cape.

I had the lobster nachos and my husband had the swordfish sandwich, both were delicious! Fair warning the lobster nachos are huge and have a good deal of lobster on them! We sat by the beach so our son was able to play around in the sand and expel some energy while we waited for our food. Our waitress was amazing with him. When she brought out his mac & cheese, she called him up to eat, joking she was going to eat it if he didn't come quick. She saved us the hassle of attempting to get him up from the beach. She also took him to wash his hands before eating, as he had sand all over them. It was such a pleasant experience, with great food. I highly recommend Chatham Bars Inn for their food quality and service!

"An ounce of pretension is worth a pound of manure."…read more The bizarre attitude I just experienced while trying to make a reservation for a nearly $3000.00 stay for 3 days at this property in the off season exemplifies this statement. We will be at The Cape for a milestone anniversary in May from the 7th thru the 10th and thought that the importance of the celebration warranted a little luxury. I am 5 years cancer free. The woman who I just spoke with on the phone after perusing their website was vapid - and that's being polite. I explained that this was an important anniversary and that I saw exactly the room that I wanted to stay in - and went on to describe a beige room with a fireplace, king bed and ceiling fan. This is not cheap mind you; it's nearly $1000 a night, in the off-season. Can't stress that enough. She said that she would be happy to take the reservation but couldn't guarantee the room. Not understanding I asked her if she could check and see if that room was already booked. She explained that it's first come, first served and room assignments are random. If that's the case why on earth post pictures of the rooms at all. That seems a little bait-and-switch to me. Still thinking that I wasn't quite understanding I said " I don't think I'm being clear. I would really like to stay in that room so if I'm calling today and paying for it in full, why can't I choose the room that I would like to stay in? This makes no sense to me." She went on to sweetly explain to me - in order to keep it "fair" for everyone, rooms are to be assigned at the time of check-in. I would love for somebody from this property to explain this to me in terms a five-year-old might understand because at nearly $3000 for three days in the off season 6 WEEKS IN ADVANCE I should be able to book whatever room is available. Unreal.

Jennifer is a wonderful host and is so helpful on the property and what's going on around town. The area is quiet, clean, peaceful. The cottages are fully furnished with all you need in the kitchen. Each cottage is appointed with everything, outdoor showers, bbq grill even charcoal to get you started. And they are Clean. This matters. Some cape cabins or rooms tend to be musty or messy. Sorry, but I've been coming here for 45 years and nothing's changed. Cottage grove cottages are impeccable. This is a quiet refuge from kiddos. Sorry, but that's my take on it. There is no pool, no playground, none of that. Plenty of those elsewhere and that's where the kids are. Go enjoy that if that is what you need. This is quiet and wonderful for adults, couples, singles, artists, empty nesters or anyone wanting to get away from screaming, kids crying and yelling, parents, cursing, car horns.... Ah. Back to serenity. Isn't that better? This is the best there is. Close enough to PTown, Wellfleet and Truro. Go to Nauset lobster pool, get a few and bring it back for a nice dinner on your picnic table. Stars are out. You got back from free music on the beach. Go to your cottage in a peaceful grove Set back from route Six. Get ready for a quiet night on the Cape like it used to be.

Then when you add the fact that this family-owned restaurant has clearly prioritized quality food and service, The Ocean House is must go if you're on the Cape. I was lucky enough to come just at the beginning of the season. Lucky for 2 reasons. Firstly, I was able to get a reservation (I heard it is near impossible once season hits). Secondly, we got a 3 @ 66 deal for an app, a main, and a dessert. So we obviously made it a 6 @ 122 to try everything we possibly could. Apparently that deal is only at the beginning and end of season. The Ocean House has a unique Asian-inspired twist to make each dish unique and intriguing. This goes for both food and drinks. For example, I got a dirty martini with MSG?!? Never heard of that, but it worked. Food was all fresh (especially the fish) and delicious. My favorite was their Chilean Sea Bass. That's a must get. Do yourself a favor and make a resi far in advance and take in everything you can! It may be a little pricy and a little fancy - but definitely worth everything.
