This is officially my first review of any product or service though I purchase on line often and depend upon reviews before doing so. I find myself always grateful to those that take the time to write them. Today, I am finally finding a few minutes to jot some notes about the exceptional service we have received from The Iron Shop. My husband and I purchased a spiral stair unit from the Iron Shop. We worked with Vice President Sam Cohen on details and design. We found Sam very easy to work with. He was able to answer all of our questions and provided a fair price. The parts arrived with DVD and written instructions. Our contractor was able to put the stairs together with the written instructions within the timeline Sam had estimated. All was going well, except the staircase was positioned in the wrong direction. The exit at the bottom faced a wall which conflicted with building code and ease of exit. The oversight was on the part of our contractor who was overly busy at the time of order and did not tend to measurement details closely. At this point in the project, our contractor now grew unjustifiably frustrated and offered little to no assistance trying to find a remedy. I called Sam Cohen at the Iron Shop who helped me tremendously. This was not one call. We had to call Sam multiple times. He answered every time. The first contact we had with Sam was on a Saturday. Later on, he offered his time for a conference call with our contractor again on a Saturday. Exceptional. Sam was able to walk us through two possible solutions and overnighted us parts so we could keep the project moving. Important to note here that our project started in January. Our stairs arrived late May. Fast forward to the end of the August. Although we were very happy with the end product, the timeline was starting to grate on our nerves. Every time I got off the phone with Sam, I felt better. Our stairs are now complete. They are beautiful. It did not take 3 months to construct the stairs. It took exactly the amount of time Sam and his team outlined. Unfortunately, our contractor dragged his feet allowing week after week to pass. Again, we are incredibly grateful to Sam and team for outstanding customer service in addition to a quality product. I could not leave this review without adding a picture of the finished product. We agonized over buying a spiral stair. I scoured Pinterest and Houzz for every spiral stair I could find. It is not something you can easily view in a show room unless you live close to a manufacturer. It was a big purchase to make by looking at a picture. I worried after all of the headache and cost, we would barely even use the stairs. Would they be spacious enough? Sturdy enough? An eye sore in the corner of the room? I am pleased to say they are spacious, sturdy and aesthetically appealing. We use them every day! This past summer, I bought an eleven step, 55", galvanized, spiral stair kit from The Iron Shop's sister company, The Spiral Staircase Warehouse. I assembled and erected it myself. It was a good purchase. I had several conversations with the designer and an owner of the firm before I ordered the unit just to make sure I knew what I was getting into. The personnel I dealt with were, I found, intelligent and helpful. My kit came on time or only a little bit late. Everything was in nice shape. Pre-drilled holes were machined well. The stair case came out nicely. I'd order another one from these people, if I needed one. I'd also recommend these people to others. Reading through some negative comments, frankly, I'm a bit surprised. Without knowing for sure, I wonder if some of the disappointed buyers might have been short on the skills needed to understand what's needed do this kind of project. While I don't think of it as rocket science, it does require a set of skills and prior building experiences to erect, or so I think. Using a contractor to erect the wrong staircase is also, likely, going to disappoint. I did find the directions in some places either unclear or superseded with updated instructions that I did not get. There was also a video that was supposed to have been included with the stairs that wasn't sent. But overall, this was a great project, and I have no regrets and lots of satisfaction from having worked with The Spiral Staircase Warehouse. read more

I was shopping around for a spiral staircase I called a few places, Dan Montgomery was the most knowledgeable salesman that I spoke to. Most of the other had some bad reviews even the iron shop But Dan asked the right questions and I felt confident that they would get the job done correctly. I had decided to raise the roof of the porch from the original drawings. This impacted the stairs the other company I was talking to had no imagination and gave me bad options. Dan included his designer in the conversation, we ended up going with a 6' wide staircase instead of the 5' one we originally quoted. This and one other modification allowed the additional two risers to work to get to the roof deck. I ordered the staircase, it came in on time, on budget with good instructions. I could not be happier with my purchase and the level of service and detail that The Iron Shop gave me. I recommend these folks over the others, and I interviewed 3-4 companies. Their prices are fair, the quality is excellent and they are a pleasure to deal with. BTW, I was missing two small pieces end caps for the rail and the landing rail did not reach the wood post. They express mailed the part out to me one was a missing or misplaced item, the other piece was an afterthought on my part. I could not be happier. I designed my staircase by using the Iron Shop Catalog. I did have a distributor out of Columbus Ohio come to my home and take measurements and I needed a walkway to get from the spiral staircase over to the loft. The platform weighed about 300-400 lbs and the company I purchased the stairs from in Columbus Ohio also did my installation. My spiral staircase is a work of art and stunningly beautiful. It is the focal point of the cabin. It is functional art work. I am happy with the butterfly castings I chose and the open cut out stairs the G4 pattern and they cut out the entire platform to match as well. I wanted a Victorian Look and got it. I chose the weathered brown and suggest asking for the color chips that you like and then choose from the chip not off of the colors online. I think the success to my project came from having someone who installs spiral staircases for a living to actually assist me with the measuring and he ordered what I needed for my project. It is not something I could of installed due to the four foot long by 2 foot wide platform 9 feet up. It took about 8 weeks for the stairs to be delivered and were installed in one afternoon but well worth the wait. Highly recommend great quality product. Thank You!! Ordered a custom spiral staircase from these guys and I have to say it is an awesome addition to our cabin. The process was so easy, I found their website on a google search, gave them a call, they asked for floor to loft measurement, a few pictures of the area the stairs will be installed, and they did the work to get what we needed on order. Our stair kit arrived on schedule, and packaged well for the long ride to Iowa. When we ordered, we opted for the addition of oak stair treads, but went with the black PVC handrail that comes standard. As soon as I had the stair treads stained and varnished, and we started the install, we knew we needed to upgrade to an oak handrail to make the entire package complete. So I gave them a call, spoke with Vince and got the oak hand rail on order last week. Unable to find a local Iowa business to make a custom loft rail for the cabin, I once again turned to the Iron Shop for their help. I sent them a few pics, the measurements they needed and they are in process now of making our custom loft railing. So excited to receive this and finish the job. The Natural Resource Education Center at Moosehead recently fully restored the first manned fire tower in the nation on our Visitors' Center campus in Greenville, ME. We wanted the public to have access to the tower and the historical displays in the cab, but our insurance company was not fond of using the traditional ladder through the floor as the means of egress. In the process of examining alternatives, we contacted the Iron Shop for information on a spiral staircase. The cost was great (even compared to local companies), the product was high quality, and it met building codes. We had a local contractor install it in just a few days last August. We have had thousands of visitors from around the world climb the stairs to the tower cab and sign our logbook. We are very pleased with the appearance and quality of the railings. They are a positive replacement over the prior railings. I didn't give this 5 stars because the order was not properly filled. We ordered 3 sections of railing, which should have included 6 posts. The package only contained 3 posts, which meant that we couldn't install them. We went through our store of purchase (Lowes), and their staff were very helpful in calling the company & requesting the missing posts. When they arrived, there were only 2 posts instead of 3, but that was enough to complete our installation. The manufacturer seems to have some problems in their packing/shipping dept. read more

I ordered one spiral staircase for a loft in our cottage. The product came as described and the assembly was fairly easy. We custom built our own oak treads and landing and repainted the steps to match our cottage color (it was necessary to repaint due to some scratching from shipping). After a year of use the stairs are still stable, they never creak, and we get a lot of compliments! This is not a perfectly finished product upon arrival, be prepared to put in a little extra work to touch-up. With that in mind, I highly recommend this product. read more

My wife and I bought a spiral staircase from Dan at "The Iron Shop" and could not be more pleased. It came out so very well and is a work of art. Not only was Dan extremely knowledgeable, but also very helpful and generous with his time and expertise. He showed a great deal of patience in dealing with our many, many questions. The only drawback was locating a contractor in this part of New York State to install the stairs. I am handy, but do not have all the needed tools that most pros have. You are missing a big market here by not having someone that can install your product. We live in the Rochester, Syracuse, Buffalo area....better known as Western NY....I eventually located a fine contractor. He arrived at 8 am and was done by 1pm. The stairs are perfect....just a LOOONNNNNNGGGG time to find someone to install before we could purchase. read more

I have used The Iron Shop on at least 5 project including the latest one being my own home. Each time they have told me 8-10 weeks lead time and that has been pretty accurate. They have been very helpful over the phone and through email in order to get the correct stairs and measurements. Sometimes there are some missing parts but they are very good at getting the parts shipped out quickly. I would highly recommend them. read more
