Came here for a double cheese burger for 8 dollars, for my first time here I was impressed. The bartender served us and was very friendly. Looks like they are having a lot of events so might come back for one of those. The burger itself was good but a bit too greasy for me. Drinks were cheap and good too. If someone asked me a few months ago if I would recommend the Jackman, I would have said no. But now I would definitely say yes. Max, the new owner, has made several positive changes since he took over. One of the main things is the renovations to the building. The building is very old and was neglected by the previous owner. The menu has been revamped and the food is very good. I highly recommend the crack chicken sandwich. Warning, it's huge. The bartenders are awesome. Give the Jackman a try! read more

I started going to the Jackman about 8 months ago. I love the neighborhood feel to the place. The one bartender...Barb...is always out going and friendly. She obviously knows her regulars and remembers their favorite drinks. What really impresses me is she is good at remembering the drinks of strangers after their first round. I was in about 2 weeks ago and it was the busiest I've seen it. One bartender and I never saw anyone waiting a long time to order drinks. I liked the feel of the bar when I first started going...cozy but I love the updates the new owner is making!!! Met him also. Seems like a good guy. Owners are garbage! They won't put money into the place. People literally fell through the floor. Water leaking in the bathroom, constantly broken beer coolers filled with warm skunked beer. Pool table never works. Out of so many different food items. Can't even get a printed receipt for over a year! Buys random food from wherever because the owners are too cheap. Cooks don't wear gloves or clean the kitchen. The whole place is disgusting and is never cleaned properly. The owners don't care and talk crap on their customers. ILLEGALLY RECORDS AUDIO! Very nice crowd that goes there, but the bartenders are all about drama and talking crap.

Ordered 12 dry rub ranch wings on grubhub and asked for extra seasoning. When you got home I realized that they did indeed give me extra ranch seasoning (most places say they will but actually never do). The wings were stellar! You must try the wings! Tues and Thursday night is Wing Night. A place you would consider a dive bar but it is fairly clean. It is a bar full of locals that still allows smoking. If you can handle cigarette smoke and coming home with a sexy grease/smoke cologne....you should stop in for the wings. They only have a couple beers on tap (Bud Light, Budweiser, and Yuengling) so don't think you are getting any micros or imports. You will be lucky to get Heineken or Corona in a bottle! This bar has the best wings in Pittsburgh though. They are the whole wings and deep fried to perfection. Hot Garlic Parm is the jackpot. Happy to write a good review of the Jackman because the bar has made big changes under the new management. First, the bar is now smoke free, though there is a nice deck out back for those who do. Second, the food is really good. Our family has tried several things off the menu (burgers, fried shrimp, Reuben's, wings ) and they've all been solid. Everything is tied together by a great staff in a neighborhood setting that's impossible to duplicate. If you're in the area and looking for some solid pub grub, give the Jackman a try. read more

I would say that it's safe to disregard most of the aspects of the reviews that are prior to 2016, which is when the bar changed ownership (from what I understand). This bar has quickly become one of my favorites and many of my friends agree. With a fun diverse menu (for a bar) AND a smoke-free environment, it's hard not to like this casual and friendly neighborhood meet-up. The location is convenient and the charm is all there, especially since this house-turned-bar is nestled in among the quiet residential streets of Avalon. The bartenders have quickly learned our name and are quite hospitable. The same goes for the chef, who is not only talented but seems caring about quality and pleasing the customer. Their fish sandwich deal is one of the best around - scrumptious, satisfying, and only $5 when on special. Drinks are cheap and sometimes the pool table in the back is free along with the jukebox. The Jackman Inn is a great "Neighborhood bar" that extends a warm welcome to anyone who is social and wants to have a good time. (Best value= whole wings $6 for a half dozen which is basically a dozen split) 2: Best priced liquor in The North Boroughs. ($4.50 For premium spirits) 3. Bingo on Fridays. Enough said. 4. Friendly owners, bartenders, and of course the local legend DJ Vence.... They all extend a warm welcome and make you feel welcome at all times. 5. Even on a busy weekend night or during a sporting event, you can get fast & friendly service. So, to start off, here's this bar right in the middle of a neighborhood!! Takes me WAY back to the '50's and '60's, when this was far more the norm than the rarity it is now, so, instant nostalgia! The inside is pretty small, but again, nostalgia-inspiring with a lot of original or near original items, including the bar, and, at the tables in back, the lights and server call buttons above the tables. Awesome! So, I'd been here twice prior to this most recent visit, and I discovered that they make one HELL of a good Bloody Mary, and a big, wonderful burger made perfectly to order. This time, my nephew, his wife and I decided to come to relax after a couple of pretty hectic weeks. This was their first visit. Well, they are both fans of sweet, colorful drinks, so they were disappointed when the bartender wasn't able to make several that they requested, but he settled for a beer, and she a margarita. We ordered the fried buffalo dip ravioli as an app, he and I ordered burgers and she ordered the seafood platter. Burgers were exceptional, although the fries were over cooked. The seafood platter was very good, the Guinness-breaded cod crispy and very flavorful. Second disappointment was the announcement when our food arrived that they were out of the buffalo ravioli. Gotta say, though--the chef came over and apologized, which showed a lot of class and made up for the missing ravioli. This little place has a lot going for it, and at the top of the list is the food and the staff. I really recommend giving the Jackman a try! read more

I'd give this a 1/2 star above the Rusty Dory if it were possible, but it's not, and Jackman Inn has done little to deserve it. Smoky to the point of suffocation, old men wearing too much cologne, and a DJ who seems to only play the bottom half Hot 100 Billboard hits are a sample of the highlights. It's far enough out of the way that you're unlikely to see too many new faces from week to week. For what it is--a neighborhood bar to get local yinzers drunk--I guess it works. This is a great neighborhood bar. A couple nice TVs, specials for sporting events, and some pretty decent bar food (great wings). The owners and bartenders are friendly and accommodating, and there's never any trouble there. The Jackman has that kind of charm that a newer bar could only hope to replicate. The clientele is very salt of the earth, real people. I like it. I knocked it down a star because taking the stairs going down to the men's room is like descending Mt. Kilamanjaro blindfolded, but hey, you can't have everything. read more
