The only good thing was the bartender/server was nice. The place was not even busy and all we ordered was a hot roast beef & hot turkey (both with fresh cut fries). About 25 min later we finally get it. We told them not to toast the bread (that's how its served per the menu). They toasted it ever so slightly. The beef gravy was so thick and dark that it looked like chocolate pudding. The server apologized and said they were having problems with it. So why would you serve it!!! And the beef was actually cold!! The turkey was warm, not super hot, gravy a little thick but not bad. Asked for more turkey gravy because they only filled the bowl half way. This time they must have microwaved it for several minutes because steam was coming from it. Anyhow the roast beef was sent back, taken off the bill and sorry but he was afraid to try anything else. Definitely won't be returning.

Triple Bypass has been scheduled! I was pleasantly surprised with MJ's Steel City Saloon. I have never heard of this hidden gem. This place is on Cliff Mine Rd - about 5 -7 mins from 376. A friend directed me to MJ's for a quick happy hour. The bartenders were great. I decided to order some food. I looked at their menu - they have all the bar food options. Most of us ordered burgers but one ordered the pizza and it looked very good as well. I went with their specialty burger (when in Rome...) and ordered the BaconBurgerDog. The burger was as you would guess- A cheeseburger, split grilled hot dog, bacon, and deep fried onion petals. It was awesome besides the tri-fecta of meat - the onion petals were the bomb (so much better than onion rings)! I really enjoyed the flavors - my only problem was that I could not eat it all. The place succeeded in my triple constraint - Friendly staff, Great Food / Drink, Great Prices. Check it out. Try a burger :-)

The black and yellow large bar of the old Steel City Saloon, with some West Allegheny charm added to the new MJ's Steel City Saloon creates a more family friendly establishment... as much as a pub can. The menu is small, but exactly what it should be. The hoagies are huge! I ordered the full 12" chicken parm, and I could only finish half. It tasted great. I also recommend the Buffalo chicken balls. There are now new booths for dining, more TV's, more space, and no smoking. Overall, I definitely recommend stopping by there for lunch during the workweek, a cold drink and a bite after work, or to catch a game on the projection screen and great gameday deals. I'll be back when I'm in the area. They could expand their beer selection in my opinion though.

The joys of traveling with an 18-year-old. After several days of working long hours and running on…read morevery little sleep, there were only a few things on my young travel companion's mind: sports, food, sleep, and probably girls--in no particular order! With an 8:50 PM flight out of Pittsburgh and not much time to spare, we decided to grab dinner on the way to the airport. I let my travel companion pick the restaurant, and since he's a lot like his father, he made a solid choice. All Star Sports Bar & Grill was conveniently located and an easy stop before heading to the airport. Thankfully, the restaurant wasn't busy when we arrived because we still had the rental car return, TSA and a flight ahead of us. We opted for the dining area rather than the bar, which gave me a chance to take in all the sports memorabilia. As a lifelong sports fan, I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Being in Pittsburgh, the walls were covered with Steelers and Penguins history, along with plenty of jerseys from players I grew up watching. Our server, Nicole, was excellent from start to finish. Friendly, attentive, and quick with recommendations. Before my coworker could even look at the menu, I spotted the Soft Pretzel Sticks and ordered them as an appetizer. Good decision. Warm, salty, and paired perfectly with the cheese sauce. Definitely order these When I asked Nicole for recommendations, she immediately suggested the Reuben and the wings. Had I not eaten a Reuben the day before, that's probably what I would have ordered. As for the wings, I'll admit it--I am a Wing Snob. If they're not homemade or from Western New York, I'm usually passing. That's not a knock on their wings; it's just a very high standard that comes from growing up around some of the best wings in the country. Wanting to try something local, I ordered the Pittsburger. For me, it was just okay. Not bad by any means, and I cleaned my plate, but it wasn't a sandwich I'd order again. Looking back, the Reuben probably would have been the better choice. The fries were also average. I requested them crispy and without seasoning, but they didn't really stand out. Meanwhile, my travel companion ordered boneless wings. What can I say? He's 18. I even tried explaining the superiority of blue cheese over ranch, but that lesson appears to have fallen on deaf ears. Overall, I'm giving All Star Sports Bar & Grill 3 stars. That rating has more to do with my particular food choices and the rushed nature of our visit than the restaurant itself. The sports atmosphere was excellent, the service from Nicole was outstanding, and there were several menu items I'd like to come back and try. If I'm back in the area with more time and a bigger appetite, I'd definitely give this place another shot.

This place is a pretty solid sports bar, what you'd expect for a decent menu and happy hour drinks…read more It felt a bit smoky from the location with a smoke shop next-door. I don't know how I'd feel bringing a family in here. The location is a bit wonky in a mall parking lot as well. However, the service was solid, but I was confused because two servers were taking care of us at the same time. If you're looking for a bar while you're at the mall, this is pretty much the only thing you've got that's within the same walking space. Enjoy.
