Absolutely fabulous lunch here the other day after our trip to the quirky, fun Bayernhof museum. Like any really good BBQ place, you smell the goodness before you even get there. In this case, a *giant* smoker is just outside the front door, and man oh man, is it loaded with yumminess --- ribs, chicken, brisket. (Faint!) The place, originally opening in the 1890's (!!), is a real throwback, despite their having to rebuild sometime ago after a bad flood. The current owners - with their families - are some serious hard workers, and the output is just terrific. One of the owners waited on us, a charming Pittsburgher (not sure if it was Chad or Nick) who has an infectious passion for both good beer and his fine food. I got the recommended oatmeal stout which I really enjoyed - smooth, nutty, flavorful. My husband enjoyed his wheat beer. Both of these from the fairly extensive draft list. The food is the real star, tho. Our foursome started with fried green tomatoes - a nice crunch with a good, lightly spicy wing-style sauce. AND ---- the favorite of all of us: smoked chicken wings. MOMMA. These are a signature item for good reason. Order a 1/2 dozen or dozen. They are on the medium side, plump and juicy, with a tasty dust. Perfectly cooked. Apparently they start smoking them in the morning! Dreamy! The owner brought us some fabulous sauces, along with homemade blue cheese dressing, for dipping. The highly-popular "Moonshine" bbq sauce was our fave, hands down. The House sauce was a bit plain but good. The 1/2 n 1/2 - with House sauce and (I think) Carolina BBQ sauce was good. Next time, I'll try their habanero bbq sauce - I think they call it "Hot Hooves." My friend & I split the pulled smoked chicken sammie with a side of really good, home made collard greens. The greens were quite good - not bitter at all - high praise from this Southern gal! The sandwich was great - with chunky bits of smoked chicken, but honestly - you could just eat those fab smoked wings! My husband enjoyed his brisket sandwich. I'm not a big red meat girl, so I can't speak to the flavor. My sister in law got a straaaaange experience -- the gigantic pretzel with 2 smoked meats (pork & chicken) accompanied by a side of Mac & cheese. She wanted to have leftovers, and boy did she get her wish! Yikes. Too weird for me. They have a small outdoor space at the back. We enjoyed the front section with the giant bar. There's also more seating in the back. They have special nights for their delicious food---- those fab wings are super cheap on Tuesday; cheaper meat platters on Wednesdays; & Saturdays are cheap tacos ---- the place was once a taco/Mexican restaurant, apparently. This one has been recommended a TON and I finally got here. Was truly not expecting much after my visits to E Town and Sidelines. This shits all over both of them Off the bat decent sports bar set up. Couple TVs but not a ton. There's a back dining area I didn't get to fully see The burgers. The patties themself are SO fucking solid. I got the rodeo without bbq sauce and used hot garlic with Onions rings on top. Those didn't all come right out with each bite so bingeing there. The bacon was mid and garlic sauce was ass. I asked for Pittsburgh Rare and got medium. It was still so juicy that I didn't even care. Very shocked there Cam did a build your own and got provolone, fried tomatoes, coleslaw and chimichurri. This was fucking insane. All around. The way the cheese wrapped around, the coleslaw being vinegary, the fry on the tomatoes and then that chimichurri.... Would absolutely destroy this again THE WINGS. FUCK YES. These are now my second favorite in Pittsburgh. ALSO easily the best smoked wings I've ever had as well. The rub on them is unbelievable. You'd expect super salty but not even close, the chicken isn't dried out and the size is solid. I'm always team flat but they have made me only want drums now The blue cheese said it's made in house. That was terrible and tasted like watered down Ken's. The hot garlic tasted like it was bought from Giant Eagle. That garlic parm though was un fucking real I will absolutely be returning for these wings and getting the chimichurri, garlic Parm and trying a barbecue sauce next time. A Pittsburgh 5 star old school dive, but not too divey, really. Lots of great beer on tap, outstanding food menu with great prices & BBQ made on sight with a giant smoker right out front on the street. Try their smoked wings yum! The Cuban sandwich was tasty too & the onion rings were giant. Bartenders & all staff very friendly. Small outside deck up a few steps in the back. Punk bands play here some evenings so it gets loud at night. Parking can be tricky. Well worth a visit! read more

Solid place for bbq with some of the best sauces I've ever had! Some great options like the tacos and all the burgers, but I wanted the real bbq meats so the platter was a great deal. The smoked chicken and brisket were a little cold but wow they were delicious. The texture was so soft, and the barbecue sauces (I got the Carolina and spicy one) were some of the best I've ever had! Onion rings were also nice and crispy, but the Mac and cheese was a miss for me. Not very flavorful and I prefer a less congealed texture, plus a little small in portion too. The fries have great seasoning on them, definitely go for that instead. Overall, loved the meats and the sauces, classic dive bar atmosphere with friendly staff ready to give any recommendation, and the smoker out front truly shows their credentials! read more

First time eating at Porky's. Got the brisket sandwich with a side of mac and cheese. Food was decent. Unfortunately, $20 for the sandwich and then a $2 up charge for tiniest cup of mac and cheese felt a lil steep for what ya got. Great selection of beers. Lots of local craft breweries being served. Overall, nice spot. Will definitely have to try some of their other options when I'm in the neighborhood. read more

A classic style bar with a smoker out front. Staff is very friendly. A few televisions with sports. If I counted correctly there are 28 beers on tap. Asked for the burnt ends sandwich but the there out of burnt ends but the brisket sandwich was really tasty. Onion rings were OK. If you are in the area a good place for a beer and BBQ. read more

Great atmosphere and decor. Pittsburgh bar style. Staff is always wonderful. Food is always good. This is also the same place no matter the outside temperature of you drive by early in the morning the smoker is smoking. Now it's a top notch BBQ place in a yuppie/gentrified neighborhood that kept its blue collar atmosphere. BBQ some of the best in PGH. Porky's in Etna is just plain awesome! It is in a space that has been some version of a bar for over 100 years. The pressed tin ceiling, dumbwaiter, stained glass and swinging front doors are a nod to the building's long history. First, the food is beyond delicious; maybe the best BBQ in the city. They have smoked wings and twice-fried wings and platters of brisket, burnt ends, pulled pork and smoked chicken. They also have smoked kielbasa which is one of my favorites. I can't get enough of their Mac and Cheese, just-right creamy Cavatappi. They have a great brunch on Sundays which includes generous potato bowls and all the usual fare. Finally, I can't recommend the Barnyard sandwich enough. Fried chicken, ham, eggs, bacon and American cheese all stacked on a fresh warm bun. Ridiculous. For the beer lovers, there are 30 taps with an impressive selection of local and regional beers. (They use the Untappd app) The service is quick and so friendly-you feel like a regular right away. The. vibe is local hangout bar meets gastropub - just remodeled with a warm oak bar, cozy tables and big windows up front. There's also a little patio out back with a few tables when the weather is warm. As far as entertainment, they have 4 big TVs with sports on all day. They have trivia on Tuesday nights and on the weekends, a regular line-up of local hardcore punk bands. ( they generally start well past the dinner hour) Chad, one of the owners is a big fan. He's often there so say hello! Finding parking out front requires a bit of luck sometimes, but there are lots of spots up on Butler. You can always stop at a few other Etna favorites while you are in the area, but I highly recommend you make Porky's a destination and come hungry. I promise, you will not be sorry! read more

Been here many, many, many times and have not indeed been disappointed. Lots of my friends bands have played here so I've attended their shows. Other times for dinner. They put a lot of thought into the menu. Everything just always has so much flavor. Portions are large and enough for two meals. Lots of great beer choices too. read more

Greeted at the door by bouncer asking if we were there to eat or for the band. We were just going to eat so no cover charge. That day they had a metal band playing. Arguably the best barbecue in the city. Stepping inside, the place is a small local bar but the food just blows you away. Their smoked kielbasa, wings, and burnt ends are unbelievable. We've tried almost all their sauces and each one is delicious. I tried the cornbread this time and it was amazing, they had a honey butter on top and had jalapeños cooked into it--incredible! I come to Pittsburgh (Etna/Shaler/Millvale area) at least twice a year. Every time I visit Porky's. I grew up in Shaler and this is the place to be. Delicious food, awesome service, live bands, and just a great atmosphere. Fiona has been our server/ bartender a few times. She's great. We got: -Hamburger with fries - Loaded fries - Double fried wings - BBQ platter - kielbasa, fries, mac and cheese and pulled chicken The person I was with liked the burger. The fries are salty but without salt, they are legitimately good enough to be eaten plain. They remind me of old Rally's style fries with lots of breading. Easily one of the best fries in Pittsburgh. The wings were just normal wings but they were great. They were a nice size and they didn't overdo it with the sauce. The pricing is very reasonable as you can get a dozen for only $13. As for the BBQ platter, it wasn't anything special. The kielbasa was honestly less flavorful than what I make at home. The pulled chicken is ripped up into smaller pieces and it just doesn't have a juicy taste to it. I did not like the mac and cheese as the cheese had an odd tang to it. This place is very small and the service is slow. They can really only make a few things at a time and it took well over 20 minutes just to get fries. I do not recommend coming here if you are short on time. We also went on a day when there weren't a lot of people there and I would imagine you would be waiting hours on a day when it is packed. This place is also notable in that it is a BBQ place yet does not have ribs. It makes no sense. I wouldn't really come back unless I wanted cheaper wings and I would not order anything BBQ related. read more

I came to porkys for the first time ever after hearing about it constantly. We got the potato pancakes, popcorn chicken and pot stickers as apps (I forgot to take a picture before we dug in) and then for dinner I got a burger with Mac and cheese as well as the loaded fries, one with pork and one with brisket. All of the food was very delicious and fresh. Everything was gone when we were finished. Definitely recommend if you're around etna! read more

I've been visiting this establishment somewhat often since Covid times over a year ago. The staff here is great, the draft selection is wonderful, AND they smoke a bunch of things in a smoker that you can't miss walking in the front door. From smoked wings to Cuban sandwiches, the tiny kitchen puts out delicious food. There are plenty of tv's for all of the sportsing events, a frequently rotated pinball machine, and a golden tee hidden in the back. The kitchen stays open decently late and even in the worst weather, there's always regulars keeping the place friendly. I would highly recommend stopping in, catching a pint, and eating some pub grub. read more

Just like the sign says, Five Star Dive Bar. This place is great. Comfortable and welcoming. The beer selection is large, so big it can take awhile to decide, and the bartenders know how to make a good mixed drink. The food is above average. I love the specials they run. The lent crab-cake was great! I'm usually disappointed unless it is a good sea food restaurant, but I love crab cakes so I thought I would roll the dice- glad I did! It is also a great spot if you like seeing your punk bands up close. It's a bit small for a band venue, but isn't that what it's all about? so close that the audience and band merge. I think the best part of this bar is that it is definitely for everyone. This is an open crowd with people of all ages and backgrounds. It can get packed at times. If you want a table, go before or after the dinner rush. I've always been lucky enough to grab a seat, but the crowd moves through most nights do you probably won't wait too long. The scratch daily soup and chili specials are announced daily on FB along with the entire menu . The most special time to go to Porkys is on Thur and Fridays because the bbq has come off the smoker from the night before. If you can get the bbq platter you get to choose two- half pounds of meat ....I pick the smoked central Texas style brisket every time ! They're working to rebrand as a craft beer/bbq spot that's still a comfortable neighborhood dive bar. They have 28 rotating beer taps and fresh meats in the smoker often. Game days usually have a buffet spread out and some evenings include live music or bar trivia. I heard smoking was recently disallowed inside due to their increasing food sales, but they have a nice patio out back with outdoor heaters. Casual spot with good food and a good beer selection. Just recently moved to Etna,Pa about two weeks ago and have already been here 4 times. Friendly staff and fast service every time. Amazing selections of beers and for a great price. The atmosphere is welcoming and for being a bar the food is not half bad. I tend to stick to their sandwiches, and am looking forward to trying their bone-in wings, unfortunately due to the shortage I went with the boneless and they were nothing to write home about, but after throwing back a few of the numerous IPAs they had on tap I couldn't care less. Overall a great time every time I've stopped in and looking forward to making this place my go-to during my time in Etna. read more

Visited this bar because it's close to my apartment, can smoke inside, and it's cheap. There was a situation in which the bartender- a white older woman, denied service to a young black woman with a valid ID. I did not see the ID, although she herself insisted it was valid and her friends agreed. The bartender also gave a drink without a problem to a different, clearly young woman, without checking her ID. She also didn't card myself and I'm 24. Once the young woman and her friends left the bar out of (understandable) frustration, the older white woman bartender intrigued her bar guests into the situation. The remarks were purely ignorant, one sided, and they all kept joking that the other was "racist". Because being racist is funny.? ??? ..? The problem with the ID was, from what I interpreted (through open gossip from the bartender herself), the young woman's hair was different than what it was in the picture. I vocalized that, we as women, DO change our hair as far as haircuts, colors, and styles go. Any person can change their image within a day. A haircut, a new haircolor. A wig. Maybe if she had asked her guest to recite her address or the information on the guests card, the bartender might have been proven wrong. That comes from training. Maybe the whole bar needs training on checking IDs. RAMP certification is important in the state of Pennsylvania. The whole time I was there I felt ashamed of the bar. I do not plan on going back based on the crowd and the staff that contributed hateful remarks and hurtful ideas. read more

I liked Porky's under the old ownership, but I LOVE Porky's now. As was stated in a previous review, the new owners took over in 2018. There are so many drafts -- the classics will always be there but they're not afraid to get weird with the beers, which is awesome and have left me with some new favorites. The kitchen has been revamped and Sunday brunch is now a thing. The Frosted Flake crusted French toast? YES. A thousand times yes, especially with a Bloody Mary special! read more

I haven't been here in years, due to the very bad parking, but happen to be driving by and noticed a parking space so decided to stop in for a quick beer.
