Started off that my husband ordered a drink, I was thinking it was something special. It took them 15 minutes to bring out a bottle of beer! I ordered fajitas not only did it take FOREVER for the food to come out the fajitas were cold?! What?! How does this even happen, skillet wasn't even warm. We arrived today with a party of 10 folks and asked if we could be seated. The rude young man said to give them a few minutes and the table would be prepared. We asked again 20 minutes later and was told the same thing. My wife finally went to the young man and he said that we must wait until a party of 20 had cleared the facility. My wife told him that twice he had said "a few minutes to prepare the table." He then rudely said to my wife that he had not told her that we could be seated and begin to be rude and argumentative with my wife. I was out of the area, or I assure you that there would have been a bad scene in front of a huge number of folks. The staff at this place has no concern for their customers and not only that, I know from experience that the food is not that good. Our friends from Houston had picked this place or we would not have been there in the first place. I just wish I had been near this smart mouth and rude person. We ended up at Mercados and were treated as CUSTOMERS!! I have lived here for over 8 years and assure you that the staff here is the worst of any restaurant in Tyler. Went in for lunch, my wife and I had the fajita chicken salad. Roughly $10 for a plate of lettuce, a couple of tablespoons of chicken, and a few pieces of tomato. Wouldn't have been a bad price if it had a decent amount of meat and a reasonable amount of tomato, but it was grossly overpriced for what it was. First time ever at The Jalapeno Tree. Not planning on going back if I can avoid it. While the waitress was nice and friendly, she was a poor waitress. Constantly had to ask for the same things. Drinks we're never refilled without asking. Several mistakes on the order. Made the mistake of ordering the cowboy nachos. They didn't look like the picture at all. Taco Bell makes better nachos than what I was brought. Ordered a plate with enchiladas on it and didn't finish eating them. I asked for red sauce, but it appeared to be salsa instead that was put on them and they were too hot to eat. Even after I scraped off the sauce. The just didn't taste good. The puffed taco was good! Oh, and the lettuce, tomato, beans, and rice were also good. Three or four managers standing around for some reason. I don't know why, it certainly wasn't for seeing that customers were being taken care of. This place is TERRIBLE. If you are looking for punishment by way of food then you have found your place. The food was cold, rubbery and tasteless. We sent our food back twice and it was still bad. Restaurant is super clean and great décor! The chips and salsa were really good as well as the white/green sauce with the chips. Salsa was like a ketchup and liquid smoke mix. There was a squeeze bottle of hydrogenated oil spread proudly displayed on every table. We should have stopped there but we tried the beef taco and enchilada combo. The food was not edible. We paid then told the manager how bad it was and he said that he would tell the kitchen staff. I tried the Tyler restaurant on 01/08/2017. For lunch I ordered the Chicken Fajita salad with grilled chicken. This was the worst Mexican salad I have ever had. The salad was only ice burg lettuce , cheese, tomatos, and unseasonned grilled tasteless chicken! I asked my server for some onions to add, to make it better. I think the manager came to my table to ask if everything was Ok, she never told me who she was. I told her how bad the salad was, she said she would talk to the cooks, What!!!!! I have to confess: I have not been to jalapeño tree in a long time, and was not excited about going tonight. However, it was my son's birthday and that's where he wanted to go. So we went. We used to go here every Friday night for 10 + years, we absolutely loved going here. Until the kitchen got indifferent as to what was being sent out and served to customers. When the kitchen manager went to another store that is when to quality went as well. After weeks and months of telling them, doing the surveys and very little done to regain the level prior to kitchen mgr leaving for new store. We had to make the hard decision to find a different Friday night place to enjoy a good meal. This review is not a reflection of the wait staff as the have always been superb, from Antonio to Debbie, Kent & Alex and all those who always treated myself, partner and sons with utmost respect. So Bo your problem is completely in the freakin kitchen as I've said for over a year now. When making enchiladas dont dip the corn tortillas in old damn oil. They will taste exactly like old grease. went into this establishment while in Tyler doing some Christmas shopping... not only were there 7-9 serves standing around doing nothing but watching my friend and i enjoy our meal, but one employee was sitting on the bag of pinto beans that they intend on serving at a later date to the patrons. Our waitress was a total space cadet. i had to get my own butter from another table, as well as a spare napkin. i also had to practically beg for the "free" tortilla to be brought to my table... once she finally put our order in to the kitchen our food was very good quality. then we are approached by the manager who asked how our experience was... i said fine NOW... i explained the issues i had with the services he pulled our waitress aside to speak with her. he assured us that the problem would be addressed with the others standing around "hawking" people trying to enjoy their meal. the truth of the matter is this is not the first time i have had TERRIBLE service in this same restaurant, if the food was not so tasty i would never go back!!! read more

Although, in the past Jalapeno Tree had a reputation of being horrible above end, after a little remodling of the building, and of some of the staff, I went for a nice mexican dinner a few months after they re-opened from the re-model, I found that their sour cream sauce chicken enchiladas were fantastic, and their salsa spicy and filling with crispy chips. A friend of mine enjoyed a nice cold beer, before rubbing his belly with delight of finishing a wonderful meal, I think it's to go without saying that, with a new paint job, and a better staff, it can make all the difference. read more

I work next door and it was a good place to get a drink after work but now their prices have skyrocketed. 11$ for a so-so chimichanga with watery beans and rice that was unnecessarily sweet also tack on a 3$ charge for a soda. There are better places for less than half the price. read more

This was probably the WORST restaurant I have been to in quite a while. Asked the waitress what were some of her favorite things on the menu and she replied with, "Oh I don't eat the food here. After watching how it's made it's just not really appetizing ya know"...... No, I don't know. I too work at a restaurant and eat the food there almost every day. We should have left immediately after she said that. We ordered the queso as an appetizer and I got a chimichanga with queso on top for the meal. The queso tasted like the spicy queso they use to sell in packs of 6 at the grocery store... it was disgusting. Unfortunately I had already ordered that on top of my meal as well. This was my favorite Mexican restaurant in Nacogdoches until Saturday (Nov. 11) night. My food was cold, though everyone else at our table (four others) had no complaints. I asked that my plate be reheated, something I didn't think would take very long in a microwave. But I waited and waited and waited. When my meal finally arrived, it was obvious a new plate had been prepared because I initially had substituted vegetables for beans. This time I had beans, not my original rice. All of this was lukewarm. I was so disgusted that I went ahead and ate what was there, skipping the beans. No one in the restaurant seemed sincerely concerned--or even concerned-- about my problem, though to be fair, I told an employee I should not have to pay for this catastrophe. I didn't. The excuse: "We're busy." (There was an SFA football game.) My reaction, which went unvoiced: "Treat other customers the way you treated me, and you won't be busy for long!" Do I plan to return to this restaurant? Not on your life! Would I recommend it to anyone? The answer should be obvious. read more

My wife and I visited the Tyler Tx location on a Monday at 1.10pm, This was her first visit, I had ate at the Athens location back in 2006 because they served beer (private club). And it was in walking distance to the motel. On Monday, The place was not very busy and we chose to sit outside to enjoy the cooler day and less inside noise. There was 7 tables needed cleaning and 5 available. The service was slow, the salsa tasted like Italian meat sauce, not heat, no flavor, the green/white sauce had no taste, the chips were tasteless. We ordered the fish tacos and the Bo Diddley plate, the food was ok, but not worth $33.00, we tried a skinny margarita and a sangria margarita. They had no kick and costs $8.00/each. we left after 2pm, $53.00 poorer and wasted and hour on a "quick lunch". Needless to say, we will not be back, Luby's has more flavor than the food that we ate. I could have cooked better food at home in the same time for less $$$. read more
