The service at this restaurant this evening went from bad to worse. We arrived and asked to sit doors. There were several tables available yet we were told there would be a 5 to 10 minute wait. We were kind of questioning that between ourselves but we waited. The waitress just just came and took our drink orders along with our cheese dip and flour tortilla order for appetizers. She brought back our drinks and said the rest would arrive shortly. After about 10 minutes the cheese dip arrived with no chips no salsa. The gentleman that brought the cheese dip quickly ran to get us some chips. Then we had to ask for salsa & given one and told another one would arrive in a second. After several minutes past we had to ask another gentleman who was carrying some to another table if he would mind giving us one. Our food arrived which was good! The only thing I could stay good about restaurant . We were never asked for drink refills & never did our waitress return until she saw us waiting and waiting for the bill. Then she asked us what color we liked and circle the amount in blue that we owed. We asked her for a couple of to go boxes. We saw her come back out three times without the boxes. Once was to our table to pick up our bill. We finally had to go inside the restaurant and ask for the to-go boxes ourselves. After several minutes she went walking by to wait on someone else and said oh the other guys getting those for you. I felt like taking back but if we had already given her. This was inexcusable waitressing. read more

Quickly becoming one of my favorite spots for Tex Mex in Tyler. Their fajitas are my favorite - they even offer delicious veggie fajitas. Great tortillas, some of the best steak quality in town (far far better than Chuy's!), and you can pick from a long list of sides for your fajitas that are included (tortilla soup, grilled squash, etc). The green salsa on the table is also fabulous. Four stars because the margaritas are TERRIBLE. They use sugary disgusting mixes for all their drinks. EW. I go to Chuy's when I want a tasty margarita, but I come here for the fajitas! read more

Visited Sunday 9/20/15 around 12:15 pm. I am giving a 1 Star because the waiter, although his first day on the floor by himself, was great. We were seated quickly, 4 of us. And the restaurant was really clean. This place was chosen by my friend that I was in town to see. She lives in the area and I asked for a Mexican food restaurant that she and her kids prefer in Tyler. I am having to compare this restaurant to Mexican food establishments from South TX. Yes, true Mexican food restaurants where the staff speaks no English, the menu has Mexican culture foods, Tejano and other Mexican music is playing, and the service is super fast. I am not a fan of Tex-Mex. The food is canned, fake, and all around gross. I was extremely skeptical of the name in itself. Jalapeno Tree, yea, okay?! When I pulled in I wanted to make a u-turn and leave. The bright yellow building with a vomit explosion of decor outside was just an eyesore and screamed desperation. But, my friend recommended it and I was willing to try it. Walked inside and the restaurant is huge with a lot of open space. We were seated quickly. Our waiter came to us and took our drink order. As I looked through the menu I was not surprised by what I saw. Who in their right mind names ALL of their menu items after American namesakes? Everything was an attempt at Tex-Mex. I literally looked through the menu five times. The second time the waiter came to ask if we were ready to order I asked him if they had carne guisada, lenqua, tripas, menudo, carne asada, anything remotely close to an attempt to come off as a Mexican food establishment. The waiter replied with, "I don't know what that is". I simply said okay and again began to look through the menu for something to eat. I finally settled on the Deluxe Beef nachos. Again, huge disappointment! I knew what I was about to ingest and my body was scared. The waiter asked if I wanted to ground beef or fajita beef. I told him I didn't care. I figured you cannot screw up ground beef as their version of fajita meat was making me nervous. When my "nachos" arrived, I showed no emotions. It was a big pile of chips with a disgustingly large amount of cheese. And the sour cream, guacamole, and jalapenos were served on the side. I told them that I was perfectly fine with all 3 items. When I tried to eat them I either got a chip that was bare or so loaded with cheese it stuck to the others so that I had to cut it with my knife and fork. I tried to mask the overwhelming cheese with the sour cream, guacamole, and jalapeno but it done no good. It was just gross. I didn't want to be rude so I ate it. As I got to the bottom third of the pile of cheese, the grease from the cheese and beef was overwhelming. You could tell that they piled everything on then dumped the cheese on it and put it in the oven to melt the cheese. I left the bottom third completely alone. It was just gross. This is place is an extremely poor attempt at Tex-Mex. If I was to rate its Tex-Mex appeal it would get a one star. If I were to rate its Mexican food appeal, I would give it a zero. There is nothing remotely close to Mexican food here. The Tex-Mex attempt is astonishingly weak. This establishment is a disgrace to the attempt to carry the Mexican appeal. It is an embarrassment to Tex-Mex. How this place is in business and apparently have other restaurants amazes me. I will never ever go to this place again, or the one in Kilgore. I would never take my Mexican and Hispanic friends to this place. I have been to many Mexican food and Tex-Mex restaurants all over Texas. This place IS NOT A REPRESENTATIVE OF EITHER! You carry no Mexican food items. Your menu is made up of American namesakes and Americanized foods. Real Mexican food restaurants offer Mexican food items, carne guisada, menudo, beans, nopales, fresh homemade tortillas. The chips and salsa is an American thing as well. Real Mexican food establishments bring a small bowl of beans. Your dessert menu offered nothing of the Latin, Hispanic, or Aztec culture. Where is the Tres Leches? Horchata? I do not go to this restaurant very often because I am not to crazy about it. It's been years since I have been, but we decided to go today. While most of the food is good, the Tamale's are awful. Tex-Mex Bland I think it is owned by Mercado's as it has the exact same menu. Tortillas were Great. Food A-OK Bland. We asked it they had a Happy Hour and the waitress said she didn't know. We asked what beers were on tap? She said she didn't know. We asked if there were any specials She said she didn't know. I asked about appetizer ingrediencies She did not know. Then she did go get the bar tender who could answer our questions but when we ordered a pitcher we got 2 glasses no pitcher. Beer was good * Ordered a Margarita tasted watered down. Wow. What a letdown. First off, let me say that as for the food, it was impeccable. The "Arnold" was a great dish and everything FOOD related was perfect. The service, on the other hand, was the absolute worst. I can handle incompetence, but apathy is something I won't abide. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to take my mother out for Mother's Day. She's disabled from a stroke and has acute dementia so it's hard finding a time to take her out for special occasions. It was late, like, 9:00pm or a little after and when I passed Mercado's and saw they were packed to the street. I had little hope of finding a good walk-in place at that time. I was, at first, pleasantly surprised that this place was not crowded at all. We were shown to a table quickly. VERY quickly. Too quickly, it seems, for Ma to get one of the little bags they were giving away. Our server got her one. Thanks for that. You got one point. After our plates were dropped off, that was pretty much the last time I saw our server w/o me having to call her. I had water and tea and both glasses stayed empty for the whole meal. It makes me furious when I have to stop eating, let my food, GOOD food, go cold because the server can't be bothered to do a check back on her last table of the night. On top of that, less than an arms length away, was a malingering group of servers waiting to leave who could have easily brought a glass of tea or water, but when I dared trouble one, she just replied, "I'll get your server." From my EXTENSIVE experience in this field, this translates as "Good luck. This ain't my table." Apathetic, crappy, unmotivated attitudes. When she finally could be troubled to bring the bill and fill up my tea, she also said, "I'll handle this whenever you're ready and I can bring you to-go boxes if you need them." Once again, you tell this to a customer with a plate more than half full and who's in the middle of eating, you're telling them, "Hurry the heck up, loser! I've got important things to do! None of which include doing my job!!" As soon as I could, I just took my ticket up front and paid there so I could expedite our departure. I despise being any place I'm not wanted. Now, I know why we found a seat so quickly. They could not get us out of their hair fast enough and by the time the bill came I was ready to put the place behind me, as well. It was obvious they didn't want our business and it was a huge inconvenience for them. Worst case of the bum's rush I'd ever seen. Be glad I had my Ma with me. That's all I'll say about that. I assure you, I shall not impose on you and your very busy juvenile staff again, of that you may be certain! I left the server a $5 tip which she did nothing at all to earn but I did it just as a nod to social decorum. This may or may not be the reason that when I did leave, pushing a wheel chair and carrying the still hot meals in our hurriedly fetched to-go boxes, that not one, not a SINGLE one, of the front of house people, who were lounging by the front door playing on their phones or chatting, could not be bothered to even open one of the double doors you have. Great job. Most people have to actively work at being this rude, disrespectful, negligent, and incompetent, but it seems you guys have it down pat. The entire front of house staff owes an apology to the hard working kitchen staff who put out superb food only to have the entire experience ruined by apathetic, slothful, and sub par service. Texas based chain, consistently good every time I've been for Tex Mex. Decor is bright and cheerful, only thing I don't like is the trend to have TV's everywhere. Can't we just disconnect sometimes? Even if what's showing is uninteresting, you find yourself watching it and ignoring who you're dining with. Food is served quickly and hot. Chips are very fresh and salsa is the type where the tomatoes are pulverized, my favorite. read more

We've eaten here many times and have always had good experiences. I really like the spicy ground meat they use in their tacos and beef enchiladas. The tortillas are made there and super fresh. I love the food at Jalapeño Tree, the Gulf of Mexico quesadilla is delicious, and they have my favorite green sauce. Why only three stars? The service at this location is not good. We have been several times and all but once the service has been pretty terrible. Servers who don't come back to your table at all after taking your order, or my personal favorite, the server who came to our table and instead of apologizing for not getting us drinks for 20 minutes says "I told them not to sit me anymore, I should be cut soon". I've always loved "The Tree", but the last two times I've been to this location the service has been horrible. We had to ask for chips and salsa, refills on drinks and sauces and I was halfway through my meal before I got tortillas for my fajitas. It isn't El Charro but it's good. Large servings are good for leftovers or for dogs. We've had better in Hot Springs Arkansas. Anyway, they're cheap with their guacamole, their chips are good but too thin. The menu is really cute and fun to choose from with entrees named after western characters and the Elvis Presley. Only thing I'd warn about are their fish tacos. I bet that each one had a one square inch of fish on it; ridiculous. Don't order those! The salsa was very good. I love The Jalapeno Tree and I have always gone there for some great Tex-Mex but recently I have changed my diet to a vegetarian plant based diet and it has been a challenge eating out. Jalapeno Tree has plenty of meat and dairy options since they are Tex-Mex but that doesn't mean that you can't get a great dinner that is still filled with flavor! I order the Veggie Fajitas but I make sure to order them with no butter and you can get the veggies steamed and then sauteed in a pan with no grease. They aren't just the vegetables that you would get if you just told the waiter to leave off the meat. They actually have squash, zucchini, red and green bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, and spinach. Also, you can order extra beans with no cheese instead of rice, which is cooked with chicken stock, and you can get extra guacamole and pico de gallo instead of the cheese and sour cream that normally comes with it. The Flour Tortillas, Red Salsa, and Chips are also all plant based and the chips are cooked in vegetable oil. Lastly, just remember that their kitchen is not vegan and there is always a chance that your food can make incidental contact with non plant based food. Not usually a fan of Jalapeño Tree. Have tried several in Northeast Texas. However.... this visit was a breath of fresh air. The decor was fun and upbeat. We were met by a hostess who had a great smile and was very accommodating to our seating preference.( I am ex-military/ ex-law enforcement so I like to set where I can see things and hate having my back to a door). Our waiter was nice, cordial, and checked on us no less than 8 times during our meal. Chips, salsa, and drinks stayed full and he had a sense of humor to add to the experience. Manager came by to check our table and was cordial as well. 4 stars due to food being comparable to what you can get at just about every Mexican restaurant in Northeast Texas. My daughters favorite Mexican restaurant in Tyler so we had to stop in. It was raining and we were tired so no argument from me. Hmm, very quiet day at Jalapeno Tree no waiting right? Well, we waited and waited and waited for anyone to notice that we were there. I was wanting to sit so I am not against going and pursuing an employee of any kind. Found two that wouldn't seat us or find anyone who would. A woman strolled up and ask us, both of us how many. Well, how about 2 of us. OK, so just the two of you? Wow yes, looking behind me, only the 2 of us today. Seated in the bar at a table in the middle of the floor we proceeded to wait and wait and wait some more. My daughter was all for braving the rain and just leaving. Oh, here comes someone! The bartender had been within 5 feet of us all of this time with out even a nod. OK, just TERRIBLE service start to finish. Have you even left a place and feel like you really need to say how sorry you were that you bothered them with your presence? If you like feeling like that then go to Jalapeno Tree in Tyler. The food by the way was completely cold, we never got a drink refill request or the napkin that was requested. Really wish I had gotten our servers name so that I could post it here. He truly hates his job and should never ever be forced to work with the public again. Always one of my favorite stops when visiting Tyler Texas. The Green sauce they give you when you sit down is usually outstanding. Not so much on this trip. The service was decent, but is usually better. The chips were stale and never refilled, the crispy taco shell was very stale. Everything else was very good. I've been here a couple of times. If I could give this place a zero, I would! I will never go here to eat ever again! The last time I was there I found one of those wire tie thingies that you would use to tie up a bag of food. (Know what I'm talking about?) It usually has paper over it, green or blue or yellow, and you use it and twist it to tie up some food in a bag that you don't want to go stale or something. Well this one has been soaked in my soup long enough that there was nothing but the wire part of it left. Luckily I looked down before I took a drink and caught it! Visited late Dec 2017 and had one of my few unfortunate meals. Two of us were happy with Chile Rellanos and a combo dinner. In the past I have been quite happy with the Carne Asado but this time the membrane on the back totally defeated the table knife and left me sawing and sawing with a steak knife. After a while I was so far behind the rest of the family I just quit and left half the meal and didn't even take the time to complain. read more
