OMG! Stopped in The Jelly Donut after driving through Grants Pass on my way back to Lacey, WA from Las Vegas, NV. Was looking for a place to get out of my car to stretch my legs. God had a plan...Visit The Jelly Donut! I walked in to this smaller, unassuming shop and quickly realized this place is for real! The fresh assortment of baked goods was impressive, and the baking racks made it clear they bake fresh on-site. I was tempted by the usual suspects, like the cream-filled eclairs, but the super-sized apple fritter caught my eye, so I jumped on it. Thinking this measly $4 investment would sustain me for many miles of travail, I gobbled it down within a few blocks of the shop. AMAZING! Highly recommend The Jelly Donut! My dad, mom and the whole family absolutely love the custard filled maple bars they make. But I went there on Monday and they only had 1. She refused to make any more when I asked. Went today, Wednesday at 7:30am they had about 20 bacon and maple(yuk) but not a single filled maple. I asked him to make some and he said that nobody made the custard. It's pretty typical that the younger employees won't do anything more than the minimum here It's a waste of time driving to this place from Merlin even though the donuts are pretty good! read more

The woman working was so unfriendly to me and all the kids I brought along. These days even a smile and a thank you have a nice day goes a long ways. She acted more annoyed that we were there, rather than being appreciative we were bringing her quite a bit of business. Sad to say but that was probably my last time there. read more

Quality, service, value. The young gentleman helping us was great. Not sure whether the other reviewer went on a bad day, but that is a 5/5 apple fritter. It's ridiculously HUGE, crispy outside, soft inside, with the fruit just right. Personally I would prefer no icing since the fruit is already sweet, but as icing goes, it was good. read more

In the 3 years we've been living here, I've only had the chance to eat these donuts maybe 2 or 3 times total! Most of the times the place is closed! Which is weird for a 24 hour donut shop? Huh? Weird, right? Well, today we hit upon it being open, so we figured, yay, donuts! FINALLY! The choices were limited at around 2:00PM, not too many options. We picked out 5 donuts and when the young man said $13.50...I thought maybe he was mistaken! Whaaaatt? But he said it was right, 2 of the donuts cost 3.75 each! Wow, that is expensive for a cream filled and a buttermilk bar. Shockingly so...so yes, the price was correct. It did indeed add up that high. I guess donuts are no longer a good value are they? We have family that moved to Rogue River Oregon and they said there were no good donuts in their area. We thought we'd try this spot since it had good reviews on Yelp, but I was not impressed. Another day, another donut! I've been coming to this place for over three years now and have been happy with the donuts. Even though they've had a couple issues with their bakers that lead to a "less than perfect" treat, I still must give them 5 stars. For all the donut shops I've eaten from over 50 years, this place is right up there at the top. No, it's not one of those "artsy" shops with bacon on top of their cakes or some wild cream filling inside, it's just a nice simple shop that makes the kind of donut I grew up on. Like old fashioned and buttermilk bars! And like the best shops, they stay open long enough (midnight) when they begin frying up the creations so a warm, fresh donut is always available. Their donut flavors cover most of the standard range from orange to maple. Others have the typical candies on top for added color and texture. I'm new in town and every time I drove by the jelly donut I'd say oh I have to stop there. So today I did. And the case looks beautiful. The woman who came out to help was the most unfriendly person I have met in quite a while. She was angry, defensive and outright rude to someone who only said "how are you today?" The cinnamon roll I got is okay. Kind of over sugared for my taste but OK. Lots of things in the case look nice but I will never try them. Okay folks..... Picture this..... You walk in at 9:45 pm after spending too much money at a fancy restaurant who served you fake cake dry as the desert with Hershey syrup on the plate. My bakers intuition said walk away from that place... STRAIGHT TO THE JELLY DONUT FOR THE FIRST TIME AND WOW WOW WOW. The man with the donut know how walked out like an old friend and was soOO kind. He spoke to my husband and I and answered all my annoying baker questions. We were treated well and the best part. WHEN WE ATE OUR DONUTS THERE WERE NO WORDS....JUST SMILES.... I kid you not, our last visit: My wife and I walked in and was looking at the display case trying to figure out what we wanted while the guy behind the counter waited on someone else. He handled their money then came back to ask what we wanted. I asked if one certain donut had cream cheese of custard. He didn't know so he stuck his finger in it, pulled it out, sniffed it and said. "Custard." WTH? We walked out and never went back. Prior to the "Finger" incident, I'd stop in for a great tasting and huge apple fritter, but the two times before, they didn't even have any and it was slim pickin's on everything. I HAVE to leave a review! We stayed at a motel across there street, so we got to savor their goods as a late night snack as well as our morning departure snack. Quick mention: fruit turnovers (apple, raspberry, etc.), "Dog Bone" cinnamon twist, and apple fritter. The apple turnover was big and airy. It was frosted (and I don't really like sugery things) but the frosting was not particularly sweet, so out was just crappy and yummy. I love cinnamon pastries. Unlike most of the offerings at Jelly Donut, their Dog Bone cinnamon twist was very simple: dough twisted in with cinnamon--little or no glaze. So, if you REALLY don't like things too sweet, this can be perfect. And last, but most, their apple fritters! This is not only the best apple fritter I've ever had, it was also the BIGGEST. Literally as big as a personal-sized pizza, this fritter was soft inside, with a satisfying crispness to its outer crust. The other amazing feature was the big chunks of apple throughout the giant fritter. If you like apple fritters, you HAVE to get this one. read more

Let's start with false advertising, not open 24 hours, no jelly donuts when I was in earlier. Worst part, 3 out of the 9 donuts I purchased here (pictured) we're raw. Of course I didn't know this until I got all the way home and bit into one. Went back the store, the only "lady" working there (name unknown) claimed she "wasn't allowed" to give refunds (we never got a receipt either). She admit the batch she made was raw after we brought this to her attention and even so would only offer more donuts instead of a refund. Anyone in thier right mind would know that's just insanity. Funny thing is, there was a paper on the door stating that they were looking for a new Baker, not surprised. It's pretty sad when third worlders could bake donuts and the locals can't. This business is a classic example of why Grants Pass is going downhill. Hopefully I don't get salmonella poisoning. read more

We love love LOVE this place. Open 24 hours. A 24 hour donut shop!!! We don't have those where we're from. The owner is a jovial fellow. So funny and friendly. He made us feel right at home. There are so many different flavors. They have cream cheese filled donuts, a Reese's donut, triple chocolate, cherry, orange and raspberry glazed, and buttermilk bars. So many more. We ordered a dozen and sat right down to eat them. The owner even made fresh triple chocolate cake donuts for us. My son compared them to like bites of steaming mugs of hot chocolate. YUM! My favorites are the chocolate crullers. They melt in your mouth. We bought a dozen and went back for more. Wish we had one of these near our house! read more

The only reference I have as far as donut shops are concerned is dunkin donuts, and this place definitely had a better selection than them. i'm not a huge donut fan but their twists are incredible. They've recently expanded their selection to include maple bacon bars and more. They have a reading hour where they invite kids to come listen to a book reading and get a free donut hole. I think that's pretty adorable. read more
